Exactly.  Any time for this game is just gonna suffer if the load times are timed.  I wonder why they are so inconsistent, anyway?

I noticed it myself.  Most stages load in about five seconds.  And then others will take about ten or more.  Now THAT makes my head explode.

ok everyone, with the official word from Mike that we can dismiss loading times, i'm going to keep my newest segment 2 and continue on with my run.  Expect to see progress in the near future ...


EDIT: i timed my segment 2 without the load times and came up with 6924 frames, or 3:51.031

i put in a good 2 hours and 80 attempts of segment 3 tonight ... almost came up with something acceptable, but not quite.  This segment isn't really too hard, much easier than i thought it would be.  I should have a good attempt in the next couple of days, considering i was really close on about 4 attempts tonight.
Good to see you are moving past the timing issue and back to recording.

OK everyone ... big update.  Segment 3 is finished and went very well, see for yourself ...

NSMBW any% run Segment 3

there are only small possible improvements and i don't think it's necessary to improve on this attempt.  Each level could be done about 0.1-0.2 seconds faster, but that's just being picky.  Overall, this is a very good segment and i think you'll agree.

The only thing I've found is that they "cooperate" if you get to world five without warping.  Oh well, keep going though.  Only a few more segments.  Smiley

I played 4-2 today.  The first half the level is very straight forward, mostly running and a couple of triple jumps.  Should hit the midway point at 475/476.  The second half is a little odd but I think this is the fastest way possible.  There are 3 stars in the second half (the second and third star can only be triggered if you are still a starman when you hit their hitblock).  If you get the first star and jump correctly you can get past all the ledges without slowing down on your way toward the third star.  The second star should be skipped because it would slow you down a lot and also you can reach the third star with plenty of time.  The main reason for getting the third star is for the last ledge.  I see no way getting through it without using a star or taking a hit from a jumping fish.  Anyways I got a time of 448 I'm sure it can be refined a bit.

tonight i practiced for my next segment ... i got 348 on 5-4 which is 4 in-game seconds faster than i previously had.  I think i can get 349, but 348 would probably be acceptable for a speed run.  I also need to take a better look at the end of the ghost house with how to get through the ghost circle.  I'll probably put a lot of work into this over the weekend, and hopefully i'll get the segment completed Wink ... but i have a feeling this is going to be harder than it looks.  There is a lot of timing issues between these two levels.

EDIT: I found out a good way to get through that ghost circle ... looks like i'm all set to start recording segment attempts Wink

Hehe, Actually I ran through (single-segment run) this game and Clear time is 27:33 with terrible mistaking on 8-1.

nice job agwawaf!  this was the only level i didn't really practice much on for the any% route, but looks like you nailed it here ... great job!!

EDIT:  at the very end of the run i have a suggestion ... @ 3:28 it would be better to hit the ceiling longer (to let the propeller run out) so that when you move to the right of the ceiling you will land perfectly on the 2nd to last platform.  You could activate the propeller sooner so that you wouldn't have to slow down to do this.  Sorry, i hope you understand what i'm talking about ... very hard to explain.  This would eliminate the need to glide down to the last platform and should be able to get you 509 easily.

yeah, definitely upload a video if you improve that level ... the more you figure out how to get through that level, the less i'll have to worry about planning it when i get to that point in my run Smiley

just an update ... i practiced 5-ghost house some more tonight and i'm getting more consistent at it ... my hope is to have this segment finished within the week.  I have less and less time to work on this run lately so progress is slow, but i'm still trying to find time every once in a while to work on it Wink
