I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I did a coin run of 5-2 and I must say it is a fun level to run.  If you triple jump you can get into the first pipe at 489.  The rest of the level is pretty much just go as fast as you can with a short detour for the second coin and a quick jump for the 3rd.  I got a time of 434 just barely missing 435.  Also I think 5-2 is a faster level than 5-3 for a low % run by a longshot.  If the vines force you to go to 5-3 then it is reset time...

I haven't played the game much (I'm only on world 2), but do you think there will be a "all exits" run to go with the 100% and low%? I guess it would be almost the same as the 100% minus getting all the star coins. Undecided
DS Dictator
Problem for an "all exits" run is that the first 8 worlds require every star coin collected to unlock all of the courses in the secret world.
In the infinite
Ahh, so would an 8 world all exit run qualify? I doubt it would since it's basically the same as a 100% minus secret world and star coins, but then again, it would be a fairly different run with the route... I'm not saying I want to do an "all exit run," I was just wondering...

I was wondering the same thing.  Right now i'm only planning on working on the 12-exit run ... i'm probably going to do this segmented first, and then i'll do it SS.  But i would have an interest in helping with an all-exit run for the normal 8 worlds if it would qualify.

I would also like to run this game, but if I did, I would have to do a single segment, I've found out that I absolutely hate doing segmented runs. But it would be a while before I would start practicing as I still need to finish the game and make a final decision on whether I would still want to run the game.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Woot I improved my time for 5-2 with all 3 star coins to 439 by smoother gameplay.  I think 440 or 441 is still possible though.  Happy Thanksgiving all!
World 5-2

... next i'm going to see how fast 5-3 can be done even though 5-2 is shorter.  I want to see exactly what time difference there is between the two levels.
World 5-tower ... very easy level.  Be prepared to wiggle your wii-remote Smiley

EDIT: sorry for the double post Sad ... thought i was editing my last post

Hi Guys,

chronorox here (unofficial NSMB DS SS WR Holder)
Got the game 2 days ago and just 100% it followed by a quick run through. Clocked in at 35 minutes without any Propellor caps (except for bowser final form) aswell as a toad challenge and a death. This baby will go sub 30 no problem. I look forward to following all the action!
Thanks for these videos UCpro. They sure will come in handy.
DS Dictator
I've just got all 5 stars on my file now yipee, what's also nice is that you get a message saying you've completed everything. From what I've been reading online you don't need to rescue Toad from the previous levels then? That's going to cut the run down by at least 15 minutes now.

There's 77 stages, 14 secret exits and 6 Cannons therefore making 97 *stages with important tasks played* overall. I don't know if there is a level that requires 2 visits to collect all of the coins despite having 1 exit yet.

I'll start a test playthrough, making notes on each level I go through and see how many times I need to visit a Red/Gold mushroom house to get the best out of each level.

If you want any help planning for the 100% run, just let me know.  I'm not going to do a 100% run, but wouldn't mind helping out with planning it.

Damnit UCpro,

Why'd you have to come up with the 5-1 strat of propellor through the spikey balls?  Angry
That's gonna make life hell

awesome job UCpro, I'm loving your vids Smiley I was also thinking of doing a low% speedrun, but I can't record anything... SDA standards are so high XD for now I haven't even finished the first world though, only speedrunning achievement so far: 456 on 1-1 without propeller... with pressing down button on downhills, maybe that's faster? this is the strategy I copied for 1-1:

btw, a guy on another forum claims 457, but I don't think I believe him...

I'd love to help speedrunning this game, but I don't think I'm quite at your level guys Sad and the Nintendo speedruns are pretty hardcore O_o

1-2 451 Lips Sealed

kept getting 452 on 1-1 with propeller, then tried without pressing down downhills and got 453... maybe it's not faster...

1-2 453 I'm a failure <_< I've used the wiimote moving platform to make a downhill and pressed down on it at the end, not sure if it's faster... looks pretty much the same

1-2 just got 454 and I even missed the jump+down to get the star once, I had to jump twice... used UCpro strat, can't seem to find timesavers <_<

1-2: I think I might've found a timesaver, I exited the last pipe just before the finish with 460 on clock, but still a 454 final time, the time saver is doing a jump right after you hit the star, I think it makes you go top-speed faster; I also tried starting the very beginning of the level by doing a jump, instead of just running to the right, that, though, doesn't seem to change much, it might or might not be faster by a very tiny bit

460 after the pipe again, I think jumping early with the star does help, in this run I also avoided jumping on the koopa thing just a little before the star, I don't know if that saved time

460 a third time... it must be helping

I'm very very near to get 455 but I just fall short of it... now I'm stopping cause my hands are in pain, at least I'm pretty sure I found a timesaver Smiley
hey Alaktorn ... nice to see your work on 1-2.  I'll have to try that level again and see if i can manage 455.

ok everyone, here's World 5-4 ... prepare to be amazed.  I still need to do some testing on this level, so a much faster time might be possible.
^wow, that level was confusing, it looks slow but it's probably not possible to go faster?

I'm sure if you tried jumping after getting the star you'd be able to get 455 on 1-2 Wink

Nice work on 5-4 there!!
Is the slowdown on the first group of turtles necessary? I haven't tried it yet but there must be a way to sneak past them sooner?

Looks like that last part will take some practice, especially figuring out the pattern of the platforms seeing as they can't be seen!!
Going to bed now (AUS), hopefully you'll have some more levels up by morning  Grin
The reason i slow down at some parts of 5-4 is because i'm timing things to make sure enemies don't fall on me as I make way through the level.  Now that i've got the level figured out, i'll try to optimize it and see if i can find a faster way through it.  A time of 330 or higher might be possible i think.
Awesome job on the videos so far, UCpro - nice to see so much progress on the game already!  I don't have anything to add to your strategies at this point (and I've only run a few levels myself), but I'll let you know if I think of anything.

On a semi-related note, if anyone wants to try some casual IL speedrunning, the Mario Center has competition charts for two categories: (1) starting small, and (2) starting with any powerups.  The charts may not be directly comparable to the full speedruns (e.g., the powerup competition can benefit greatly from starting with a star and taking damage later), but I hope they're still interesting to people in this topic.  To submit your own times, you have to register and then click the "Submissions" button on the left menu.

... looks like there was a better strat for the last upper platforms.

Yeah, you're right about the powerup competition not being comparable to the any% run we're working on here (because you can start with a star) ... level 5-4 i just did is 1 second slower than the best time over there ... and i know if i started with a star on that level i could save about 5-8 seconds.  I might try my hand at that later and see what time i can get.

D'oh must have misread that because I was just attempting some of those IL+ runs for TMC.
I got 7-Fortress (with Ludwig) at 521 and 8-Doomship at 360. I've found a reliable way to bounce on the middle giant cannon ball from the set of 3 giant cannons and a new use for the Propeller jump at one part right after the Checkpoint :).

Is there a good reason why you don't include a 3 star coin run? A "too many categories" issue? The site is pretty cool to look up on.

8-1 is a nightmare.

It will be interesting to see whether it is quicker to be super cautious and save the propellor throughout the level, or just gun it, lose the propellor through several hits, and go on to complete the game the best way possible without it.

Great run, congrats; have you tried pressing down on the downhill after the pipe at the end of the level? it might not be faster to do it when you're already running, but just after a pipe it might make you reach top speed faster

the offscreen part sounds crazy, how did you get that figured out?

edit: here's a comment of a guy on youtube: "theres a weird glitch at the beginning when you start he runs without that beginnig.meaning when the screen appears you can just run instead of waiting"

anyone experienced that? the comments page:

i found that pressing down on downhill parts don't increase your speed, even if it is downhill right after coming out of a pipe ... i'm not 100% sure on that though.

I'm not sure about that youtube comment ... people can say stuff like that, but without video proof, i don't buy it.  457 doesn't look possible for 1-1 starting out as small mario ... i would have to see video evidence of a 457 run if someone claims its possible.  I'm not saying it isn't possible ... but it does look highly unlikely.
