Yeah, I guess that'd be the main reason.  The idea hasn't been brought up at all at the Mario Center, though - we could very well add those charts if people want it.  Actually, I was thinking myself that 3-coin charts could be pretty fun.

World 5-Ghost House

... unless there's way to successfully jump through the ghost circle at the end without losing the propeller, 568 looks to be the fastest possible time here.

... on to World 8
Maybe if you wait a tiny bit and go through the circle in front through the large gap, then maybe on the way down you can fall between the ghosts. You might have to be slightly careful falling down, but it seems like it could still be faster than the current method.

you're great at those jump falls O_o the end looks slow... are you sure you can't jump through the circle without getting hit? the first part looks possible to do if you maybe wait a little bit and jump+down to crouch, then exiting it doesn't look impossible with a well timed jump

small mario is used for the super skills video though.  I have been successful a couple times jumping through the circle with propeller mario, but i have to slow down a bit to do it safely.  It was a little faster than going over the circle though, so i'll have to spend a little more time getting that jump down.
Did you try pressing down right before jumping?

World 8-1 in 424

... still working on this level, but i need your suggestions for improvement.  This is the best time i've gotten without losing the propeller.


EDIT: one improvement i want to try is to see if i can triple jump over the lava fountain at :32 ... also, i think it would be better if i dropped down at :49 instead of :51 and also if i dropped down at :53 instead of :55.

Other than that, let me know if there are other possible improvements.  I think a 427 or 428 could be possible with the improvements i just listed.  I'll give this level another shot in the next couple of days.

^I agree you should drop down sooner on those jumps, but other than that, it looked like you went full speed... I can't think of any improvement, other than maybe you should try to use the downhills more, like at :36 and :39, delaying the jump so you can use some of that downhill, I don't know if that would be faster though

edit: maybe you could triple jump the lava at :52? at :56 it also looks possible to triple jump it, but I don't know those meteors things pattern so propeller might be the only way

I just realized.  The Low% Run for this game is going to go through 8-7, my favorite level in the game.

Hard to beat a level where you ride on skeletal dragon over a never ending pool of lava.

That would obviously be the fastest route through World 8.  8-1, 8-2, 8-7, then Doomship.

yeah, i went basically full speed through the whole level, except for the spots where i was decending after using the propeller.

i just realized it would probably be better to drop down at :57 as well, and then jump off that last platform and propeller up to the pipe.

I've got an idea, though I'm not sure if it would work: around :47, where you triple jump and then propeller jump over the two lava towers, you propeller jump right over that Buzzy Beetle. Would you possibly be able to land on the Buzzy Beetle and maybe make it over the lava towers on the slightly lower part of their rise, or at least shorten the time you are in propeller free fall? I'm not exactly sure on the height you get off of bouncing from an enemy, but it looks like it might work.
I got an idea for that ghost house level, about the jump falls, maybe you could move to the right earlier if you jump+crouched?

Well, I've beaten the game, and I only need a few more star coins left (I know exactly where they are) until I can finish world 9. Once I finish world 9, I might begin planning a 100% route. As someone else said, I think the best way to start out would be to do the low% route, but find the secret exit & normal exit on 8-2 and doing all the other levels up to 8-7 along the way, and save whenever possible. I'll have to look into it more once I finish the game though. (I love route planning ;D)

How many attempts did it take you to get that run down UCpro?

I can only imagine how much luck it would take to get through that level unscathed in a Single Segment run.

to get 8-1? ... the odds of getting a good run are about 1 in 20 for that level (all because of the random boulders) ... which is not very good odds for a SS run.  For a SS run, the route might have to be changed just a bit to be a little safer ... or the runner will just have to be more cautious and make small pauses if necessary.

speaking of 8-1, i just got done practicing it and i got a 428 without losing the propeller.  I wasn't recording though, so i don't have a video to show.  Hopefully i can record a 428 run tomorrow.  429 MIGHT be possible, but nothing better than that.  Thankfully this level is at the beginning of segment 4 for the any% run ... so completely random with those falling boulders.

What about just jumping through the lava and losing your Propeller Suit? I don't think you're going to use it at 8-2 or 8-7, and you can easily retrieve it at the Doomship. :/

It would probably be useful in 8-2 to get across the really fast spinning discs near the end more quickly.
*NEW* World 8-1 in 428 ... almost got 429.  Very good route i think.

I found out it's NOT faster jumping through the lava and losing the propeller suit ... it actually might be a little faster, but only by about half a second, which is not worth it at all.

Nice run! But on a single segment, I'd be prepared to take the hit and roll with it.

So on 8-Doomship, it seems that due a late trigger, no matter how fast you do the level, you'll always have to wait for the green pipe to go around the cannon circle before being able to enter from the top. Anyone found a way around this?

Ok, now I'm gonna start the 100% route. If anyone has ideas, tips, or changes to the route, I'd be happy to hear 'em. Now as I said before, I think the best way to start the route is to get to bowser as quickly as possible to have the power to save wherever needed. Also, any times I put by the levels are my best times for that level. I'm sure most of my times are pretty beatable because I only gave about 10-20 tries per level. If you have a better time, tell me, and I'll swap it out with mine. I'll be editing this post with whenever I or anyone else finds more segments, better times, or a better route. Sorry, I have no video proof :P.
