I know Mike's talked about dividing sections of the marathon into themes, my idea for one would be a bunch of games that have seen recent releases in their respective series. Stuff like Bionic Commando -> Rearmed, RKA -> Rocket Knight, even Sonic 3 -> Sonic 4 would make an interesting comparison.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Vorpaledge: I'm sure Lag.com is too.

neskamikaze: You know, I was looking through an IGN 100 best games list (to see if there's anything I missed), and I realized Tony Hawk was a huge omission from the games I suggested. What's even better is that none of the games are very long.

MetaSigma: Sorry, but the lag would make Castle Crashers really hard to play. Sorry you can't come.

Axel Ryman: Castle Crashers is simple, but you still need to have some experience with it to play it well. And sure I'll sing Old Man River. Smiley

Essentia: That's about a whole day of gaming right there. Shocked If we decide to have FFIV, I think the US version would be the best choice, since we're all used to spoony bards. Also, Lego Star Wars co-op is an awesome idea. I don't know if we can fit both games, but we can definitely fit in one of them. I guess if I had to prioritize I would go with number 2 because it has the classic Star Wars series in it? Honestly, I don't know enough about the popularity of the games, I just know they're fun. Smiley

I just meant I could run any of those RPGs, not that I would actually do all of them. Tongue  If we just do one Lego Star Wars game, I think 2 would be better - it seems to be more fun than 1, and 1 has a couple auto-scrolling levels whereas 2 doesn't have any.

Love it!

Final Fantasy X: I know this game is long, but it's also a Final Fantasy game a lot of people like. Also, Essentia already knows how to single-segment the game. It might turn out this game is too long in the end, but maybe we'll make the marathon longer for it, that's why we're planning right now.

If you really want me to do this, it won't be a problem for me.  FFX is really easy to run single-segment and doesn't have any boring leveling parts (like FFIV and Chrono Trigger would have).  If you ask real nice, I could even sing Suteki Da Ne during the underwater kissing scene. Wink

Seriously though, since they take up so much time, how many RPGs do we want during the marathon?
I'm just trying to impress you.
Hey I'd love to participate somehow. Given the Rare games is there any way to squeeze a 100% Blast Corps in there somewhere?  Smiley
Moo! Flap! Hug!

Wait...so you're cool with making money for charity every ten minutes, but you would sing a five minute song for someone asking "real nice."  Well, you're far too nice.  I think Suteki Da Ne could earn at least $200 for a deserving charity (no joke)!  Do you remember the crowd going crazy for Aria di Mezzo Carattere?

Personally, I'm all for making the marathon longer. I know the current FF7 route well enough to do a marathon run of it, and I'd love to tag-team it with someone, time permitting.

RE1 (probably Chris, Best Ending): 1:30:00

RE2: 1:30:00-3:00:00 (if you don't mind me doing an A and a B scenario. The game isn't really complete unless you play both A and B scenarios.)

RE3: 1:30:00

Silent Hill needs at least an hour and a half. The game only factors in actual playtime, and cutscenes are unskippable. We can nix this one if you so choose.

Metal Gear Solid: I've been practicing this one off and on. I can fall under the 2:30 limit. Even less if I don't make any stupid mistakes and die.

I'm going to roll with Option 2 as well. How much did it cost to rent out that building for last year's lock-in?
Just a suggestion.

The first part of Mega Man 8's first Wily Stage should be very well possible to do blindfolded.

I plan on fighting at least Glass Joe blindfolded, and maybe the whole Minor Circuit.
I want off the ride....
I know no one really cares about me, but it is in my current plans to show up... (just need to make the money). I am cool with any option.... but i'd like to know asap.

I can do sotn race again or 100% (maybe both) (this time I won't be up for forever then try to run it) depending on what I do I can do challenges per boss or a whole challenge for the game. all bosses w/ challenges will run about 2:40 for best. about 2 hours for any., sd3 (in jap not good), ninja warriors (kunoichi or kamatachi).

I am planning on learning (to speed) alcahest, and brain lord.

FF4 isn't that hard to pick up since deign did a plan for SS (he always had bad luck at his once shot at zeromus), so that is something to consider. I believe his ss time was maybe 10 or so minutes behind his seg time? I could be wrong, but they were close.

Also I am willing to be a 3rd chef... so food might be handled at this point lol.

YAMA AND I MUST DFO FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE! j/k
train kept rollin
This might sound stupid but what airport  would I need to land in? Just trying to get an estimate for cost.
Fucking Weeaboo
If they're gonna have it around the same area, then you'll want Ronald Reagan National Airport (Abbreviation: DCA).
#Casual
...and Rane, you know we care about you...

Also, like last year, if I can make it to the marathon, I'll be glad to help with anything, Mike.  You know I'm in the area.
Waiting hurts my soul...
Wish I could go, but probably not going to be able to again. Hopefully the following year if this continues; I think I'll be a little more settled then.

If something should happen where I get settled in faster, then I can lend a hand in the kitchen and run Jak and Daxter if that would be an option (2hrs). I haven't really ran any other games unless flash games count. Maybe if I get a streaming setup I can do an offsite run if people want to see Jak and Daxter.

Actually, if you're flying international, then you want either Dulles (IAD), or Baltimore Washington (BWI). AFAIK, National airport only handles domestic flights.

Or you could just put in WAS, which covers all of the airports in the Washington, DC area.
gamelogs.org
dulles is the coolest looking airport ever. go there.
Is PJ
During last/this year's marathon, someone requested a Robotrek run.  Is there still any interest in that?  I can do around 4:30 SS no problem.  If I play much riskier I can hit maybe 4:20, but I wouldn't do that live since I'd game over at around 1:50 into the run.  I'm not sure how long we're planning on making this marathon, and there's already talk of a lot of other more well-known RPGs, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyways.  ^_^

I don't know if this has been pointed out yet, but for improvements: get at least 1 NES that actually works.

My nes got repaired by me and its been working just fine with any cleaned carts (and semi-cleaned ones). If i show up, I am planning on bringing mine. If its breaks during the Marathon i can fix it ^^;

EDIT: Yama said i should post this so...
raneofdragons    also, yama stupid idea maybe, but if the runners wanted to pre-record tricks (that won't be in the speed run) for showing videos between games tha tmight be an idea
mikwuyma          wish I could say the same about the exorcist :-/
oh that's not a bad idea at all actually
raneofdragons    cause if we don't do sotn 100%, it'd still be interested to show off the Galamoth (ez mode) or maybe demostrating other OOB stuff, and then other games can do that stuff too...; and its at the runner(s) discretion
raneofdragons    and it can be shown in front fo the game with "Coming up: XXXX by YYYY"
while your doing your interviews (post run) or doing some pre-run commentary
mikwuyma        cool cool
raneofdragons    that way there isn't any real "what's next?" for the marathon, people can see
mikwuyma        you might want to post that idea
it would take some more work
but at the same time it would be pretty cool
raneofdragons    yeah it'd take work
but all cool things are that way
mikwuyma          yeah like the marathon itself Smiley

just to sum up the spoiler...
Allow runners to pre-record demo segments of the game ahead of time then have it display between games (like before the next game starts), so that everyone is informed and they have something {hopefully interesting} to watch while they wait. It can also announce the game and who will run it. Or even mark if its a special event.
If only I wasn't on the other side of the world - 'cause I would've done whichever of the Crash Bandicoot 1/2/3 (1 is my favourite though).

One day....
Exoray
If we don't get any experienced Banjo-Kazooie runner to show up I could probably practice for it.

Btw, I don't see any 4-way MUA coop on the list!

Also I wouldn't mind some EWJ racing if Breakdown is up to it Smiley

Yeah, and most everything I play is even less well-known (or not speedrun material)
Talk to the Hand
Okay, talked to Mike, and the biggest obstacle for me attending with option 2 has been cleared away. That said, I'd still prefer option 4 or even 3 from a "getting time off" perspective.

I also had an idea regarding SotN if we do it again. Basically, take the idea behind what we did during the opera scene of FFVI, and apply it to the opening dialogue ("Die monster! You don't belong....etc"). I think the fun factor, or "lolz" as the young kids call it nowadays, would far outweigh the loss of time by letting the scene play out.
