So yeah, I'm coming. Believe it, etc.

Of the games you specifically list, I could possibly train myself to do Spyro 2 (PS1, dunno, this game can be quite broken) at a fair clip. Aside from that, other console games I can do are Klonoa 2 (PS2, 2h30) and possibly also MDK (PS1, 1h?). To be honest, I'm up for anything runwise, as long as I have time to practice for it. My Backloggery lists games that I own. I'd quite like to do Dynasty Warriors V: Empires (PS2, hard to estimate) with someone, too. Coop runs rule!

There's also some information from the apparently-failing "Classic FPS Marathon" idea that might be useful: here.
Any date works for me.

I'm up for doing GnG again, I'm sure I can do it better next time.
SGnG, no problem. Right now I'd estimate 1:30 for both games, but of course I'll be training for the next 6 months so I can update that estimate as the date nears.
I've done Jaws and Monster Party just fine already, and North & South is barely worth the trouble of setting up. So let's pass on those.

About food, I make awesome cookies.
You got a deletion wish?
Mike, MZ & Co: Somebody get me access to a smoker grill and some racks of pork spareribs.  I cook up some mean ribs (though I currently do them every couple of months for friends [wrestling ppv's]).

I have an apron that says "What part of 'It's NOT ready yet' don't you understand?!"
Everything's better with Magitek
I'm going to try real hard to come to this marathon, although I might have to bring my baby with me. Wink  I won't be going to MAGFest, so pretty much any date works for me.  Of the RPGs Mike listed, I could do any of them with enough practice.  I already have a SS route for FFX worked out - I played it in an unofficial TSG community Final Fantasy marathon last year, and I'm doing it again in August.  However, it would be really long, and a lot of it would be boring due to unskippable cutscenes.  I know lots of people were asking about Chrono Trigger during this last marathon, so it's definitely popular; I'm sure I could work out a SS route for it.  As it happens, the last few days I've been watching the Nicovideo SS run of FFIV, and I've gotten some ideas from it.  I have both the SNES (easytype) and PS1 (hardtype) versions of FFIV, so I could do either one.  I haven't done much with running FFVII (besides watching the runs on SDA), but I could probably work something out if people really want it; however, it would most likely be long like FFX.  It depends on how many RPGs you want in this marathon and how much time you're willing to take up with them.

Denton and I could do some Lego Star Wars (I and/or II) co-op runs, if people are interested.  And of course, I'd be willing to do DKC2 again.

If there's a PvP stream going on I have to demand a Tetris Attack tournament.

This. I'll do everything in my power to get here, and I will want some Tetris Attack. I'd race Essentia in Dr. Mario as well, and could run a couple of the games in the list with some practice.

Hmm, I might have to get cracking on that so that I actually have a reason to go to America and hang out with you awesome people.
train kept rollin
I could do Super Starwars if I went, thats a fairly well known game.
It's time for some HEErooooOOOOHi cs!
I would love to come to this year's charity marathon, I would be willing to run the original Metroid, La-Mulana (if it's not too obscure), and possibly Ninja Gaiden or more depending on what all I can learn before then. I would also be willing to co-op speedrun all the games on Kirby Super Star with Romscout (Spring Breeze, Revenge of Meta Knight, Dyna Blade, etc.)

Any of the latter 3 dates would work well for me, but preferably option 3 or 4 would be cool.
I'm gonna try to make it out there this year. If I can, option 4 would be ideal. Depending on how things go in the next few months, I could be up to speed for a solid Battletoads run by then.
Talk to the Hand
Options: Option 4 definitely works the best for me. Then it's a tie between 2 and 3, with 1 being right out for me. 4 would be MUCH easier for me personally to participate in, since I'm going to MAGfest regardless (Because of that, in terms of likelihood of me participating in the marathon, 3 works more than 2 does, even if I have the shuttling-back-and-forth problem of last year). Also, lots of people here would probably choose the marathon over MAGFest, but I'm not one of them. Not that I expect that to change the date by itself, just throwing that out there.

Games I could run:
Battletoads, maybe an all-levels run this time.
I suppose I could try yet again to get competent in CCC Final Fight. This could also lead to a donation incentive--donate money to have me play as a certain character. Although, let's be honest, you'd have to be crazy to vote for anyone other than MIKE HAGGAR. Cheesy
I'd actually like to do a non-glitchy TMNT run.
I like FFIV a lot, but I don't know that I'd want to speedrun (And repeatedly practice, for that matter) it. If demand is that strong, and if absolutely no one else wants to do it, maybe I'll take a shot at it (Mike: This is NOT your cue to go "Great! I'll put you down for running it!" like you did with TMNT last year. ;))

Potential Improvements:
I'll probably join Molotov in a separate pizza fund. Smiley The cooking idea is cool, definitely, but I'm ridiculously fussy when it comes to eating.
As we found out last year, random game trivia is my speciality, especially as it concerns NES and SNES games ("Anyone know anything about Faxanadu?" "Nope..." "Okay, well...*launches into a minute-long spiel about the game and its series*").
Donation database (Or database-driven tracking program). Seriously. I'll write it and we'll do it live. Fucking thing sucks. Again, a bit of time investment on getting people up to speed on how to use it, and it should take care of a LOT of headache in terms of tracking who's eligible for what donation prizes.

My voice:
I'M ACTUALLY IN A GOOD MOOD, I JUST HAVE VOLUME MODULATION PROBLEMS IS ALL. Wink Also, Matrix is nearly as loud as I am I think.

Baby Assistance:
Yes please.

Aside: I love how all of the sudden there are like four people volunteering to run Battletoads. Where the hell were you all last year?! :{
it's most likely i'll be there next year. if i am, i can definitely run metroid fusion.

what i would like to see is more consideration given to the actual runner. it seemed like there were a lot of people and it was loud at times. imo there should only be about two other people besides the runner who can be heard at one time; maybe one other person to make special announcements/prizes/etc. hopefully, not only will the runner be more easily heard to explain things, but they'll be able to concentrate better on the game without all of the extra noise.
Oh yeah, I'm open for pianoing Castlevania 1.

I've been able to run Btoads for years, but was unavailable last year.  And also not at all involved with SDA.  <_<
date doesn't matter for me. i'm finished with coursework now.

i'd be glad to do metroid prime. and i agree on doing prime 2. i see tjp hasn't posted yet but he or grenola would be best for it. i really think grenola should come but i'm not sure if he's going to have his move sorted before january. even if he doesn't i would still consider it ... you'll only be gone for a week at most and the experience is guaranteed to change your outlook on things. if you think it was cool seeing it from a distance last time then i can tell you it's much more exciting when you're actually there behind the scenes helping out. it's a significant thing to do.

main thing i'm worried about right now is the location. did you two have any ideas on that? i guess if you had you'd have posted them. i'm having a lot of trouble with it in my head because it seems like hotel != good internet and where the hell do you put dozens of people for 72 hours if not a hotel. but mike's house just isn't set up for this so i'm not trying to say it should be at mike's house or something. have to keep thinking on this.
gamelogs.org
i'll be there again unless something comes up. probably like option 2 best, but 1 and 4 are cool too. i'll be finished with school by then and won't be going to magfest, so it doesn't really matter to me.

all the potential improvements sound great; i think everything will be a lot easier in a larger location. i can definitely bring my tv/consoles/games etc if it's somewhere like the lock-in last year. it would be cool to have a bunch of tvs set up for practice or just other game playing while the marathon's going on.
i'm with molotov and emptyeye on ordering pizza though— domino's's new recipe ftw. Wink

i'd love to actually run a game this time, and i don't think myst will cut it. Tongue  mike89 asked me about maybe doing banjo-kazooie if he can't make it. i've never run the game but i'll try to do some test runs over the summer and see if i can get it to around 3 hours.
#Casual
Ooh ooh ooh.  Can't wait for the next marathon....

I'll take Option 2.  Options 3 and 4 are fine as well since I'd rather hang out with speedrunners.  The panels at Magfest ARE appealing though.........

Like last time, I won't know for sure until a month or so out.

I'll definitely run DKC.  I use the warp route since I did the warpless run last time.

As soon as I actually start playing/practicing MP2 again, I'll let you know if that's actually gonna happen.

Also, Mike.  You should probably nudge Runnerguy or Jiano or one of the other #zelda experts to see if they are willing to come and show us how the 3d Zeldas are done.  I don't know if they'll actually be monitoring this thread.

EDIT:  Yeah.  You better believe it.  Domino's new recipe FTW!!!!

so pro u don't even know
Any option is OK for me. I will of course be running any version of Little Mac smashing face except the one for Wii. If DK28 is not coming I can take on Super Punch-out!! I will give time estimates a bit closer to the event.

I would also love to do some commentary this time around.
Balls jerky
If the marathon is during New Years I have already been forbidden from attending courtesy of the other half. The other dates are ok with me although the midweek one is least preferable. The bonus to working in a small shop is when we're not very busy I can pretty much take one or two random days off, but if I can avoid it, I'd like to.

Games I could run: ... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Sad Maybe I'll pick up something and get a run up in the next 7 or 8 months?

improvements: as seen from the other side of the screen, I think it would be incredibly helpful to implement that one sheet of info per game thing tigger and others were talking about, but in addition, include everything you will be offering up for donations and possibly when in the run they occur so there's plenty of notice to people with the bucks. Pretty sure at least once there was a "hey we had a drawing for the game didn't we?" or a "oh yeah we can get donations for this but it's happening in 30 seconds better hurry!" Come up with a written list and maybe even have a whiteboard with pertinent info for that game and one for the next game hanging up so it's huge and everyone present can see it? It would definitely be harder to miss something that way.

I know a huge issue this year was carting people between MAGfest and Mikefest and that won't be an issue this year, but since we're hosting in a location that isn't Mike's house, would we need to move any large gear? (say, a couch Wink ) I have a truck and I could definitely assist with moving large objects if I were to attend.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Wow, lots of responses already. It looks like nearly twice as many people are going to try and come this year, and it's awesome so many people are hype about the marathon already. I know I'm going to miss some people here with my responses, but I'll try to answer as much as possible.

Date: Judging from the responses so far it sounds like New Years is definitely not an option, and the weekend in between New Year's and MAGFest would be the best option for most people. One thing that people are forgetting is that option 4 is the worst option viewer-wise, because most of the marathon will be during the week.

Limiting people: I agree with Molotov, I'm against this idea. Our marathon started getting better when we stopped restricting who was allowed in the room and started to be more casual and relaxed about commentary. Instead of struggling what to think for commentary, we just naturally conversed with each other. One idea is to make it a runner's choice to limit the people in the room. Another is just to make everyone shut up (serious time, anyone?) if people are getting too loud.

CV Rondo of Blood: If Molotov can bring the game as promised, it would be a great idea to run. My only suggestion is to practice multiple routes and both characters in case if we get any donation requests.

Actraiser Professional race: This is a good idea. Actraiser might not be the most popular game ever, but it has a decent following, and Professional mode cuts out all of the boring sim parts. Also, more races are always a good thing. Cheesy

New Super Mario Bros. Wii: This is a great suggestion. I simply forgot to put it in the topic.

Tetris Attack: You guys could have a tournament to see who runs the game during the marathon. That is, if you all come.

Flip714: Wario Land: Shake it!! is not a bad idea, worth considering, IMO. I mean, everyone loves the bad guy, right?

tjp7154: For DKC you could always try doing 100% instead. People do like 100% runs a lot. And yes, getting runners from #zelda would be a very good idea. Keep me updated whether you can run MP2 or not.

Tigger77: I still want relaxed and casual, but I want it to be more organized (no last minute rushing around or 20 minute downtimes).

Molotov: I like God Hand, but it's also not the most popular game (outside of #sda ;)). I'm still unsure whether we should have it for the marathon. Also, I agree with you, I'd rather not limit the amount of people we have inside a room because I'd rather have a relaxed atmosphere like we did day 2 onwards.

If we included a Shinobi game Shinobi III would definitely be the most likely one to include, but we'll have to see if there's time.

Essentia: That's about a whole day of gaming right there. Shocked If we decide to have FFIV, I think the US version would be the best choice, since we're all used to spoony bards. Also, Lego Star Wars co-op is an awesome idea. I don't know if we can fit both games, but we can definitely fit in one of them. I guess if I had to prioritize I would go with number 2 because it has the classic Star Wars series in it? Honestly, I don't know enough about the popularity of the games, I just know they're fun. Smiley

Also Breakdown's plan for FFIV is ingenious.

Breakdown's FFIV plan:

FFIV has Namingway, who lets us change character names at each town. Cheesy

Battletoads: 4-way race = epic. But I'm not sure how Pianotoads will work in that case. Also, an all-levels run would be pretty awesome.

MatrixTN: I'd be down for some barbecue

Your game choices.

1. Too boring to watch and not all that popular. TMNT 2 is one of those games that's fun to play, but not fun to watch. It's also pretty long for an NES game.

2. Too obscure

3. Sounds like it might work.

4. Too obscure and possibly maligned (I remember this game getting pretty bad reviews).

Sinister1: Awesome! I hope you don't have a 4-hour exam this time.

Ark: Banjo-Kazooie sounds great to me.

Sir_VG: The difference is that these are weirdos you know through the internet. You know, the type of weirdos you can trust. Wink

Nate: That's awesome you're willing to take up Metroid Prime. I'm sure you would be an awesome commentator too because you know so much history behind speedrunning the game. Location for the marathon is definitely a concern, but a date needs to be hammered out before I even think about getting a location (or else I'll just go "uhhhh" when a place asks me for a date).

Final Fantasy X: I know this game is long, but it's also a Final Fantasy game a lot of people like. Also, Essentia already knows how to single-segment the game. It might turn out this game is too long in the end, but maybe we'll make the marathon longer for it, that's why we're planning right now.

Romscout: I'm also in for Castle Crashers co-op. Who could have guessed? Tongue

Axel Ryman: If you could come that would be awesome, and Kingdom Hearts series is something I didn't even consider, but would be a good idea.

Greenalink: I have Shadow Complex, though I guess I would have to beat the game in order to create a good enough save file for you. Also, Ultimate Genesis Collection was also released here in the states, so I can pick that up if we need a copy. And yes, the first Golden Axe isn't a bad idea.

Flicky and pootrain: It would be awesome to have more English people than mike89 this year. Wink

Kareshi: SGNG and Pianovania? Count me in.

dballin: A truck sounds awesome, because I'm sure we'll have to move something big.
Highly Evolved
If nothing else, a TA tournament during the after marathon stream would work.

We'll see about me coming.  Need work first so I can use money.
I think a TA race would be a novel idea actually, the contrast between a typical race in that speedrunning TA is almost all luck might be entertaining. But I'd be down for a tournament too.
welcome to the machine
I keep seeing TA and reading Total Annihilation.
I think something missing from the list is a Tony Hawk game, since that series has gotten so far. I'd strongly suggest 1, 2, or 3, since they're probably the most well known and they can all be done in less than 10 minutes. I'd be able to run 2, but someone else I'm sure could do 1 or 3.
Evermore Extrodinare ᕦ(° Д°)ᕤ
I absolutely HATE the fact that my work blocks out the ENTIRE month of January for me :< or else I'd go. The only way I'd have ANY chance of even joining in ANYTHING would have to be a game co-oped (Like Castle Crashers) over X-Box live :x but I have no idea if that'd even be considered or if the co-op would be restricted to just those that are "there" at the location.

If I had ANY chance of going I would be there, but unfortunately the Budwiser won't allow me the time off even if I asked :/

But as I have already stated...X-Box live...that'd be about the only way :x
We all scream for Eyes Cream

I'll see what I can do then. Its not for less than 6 months so maybe I can scrounge some cash up. I might also be up to doing DMC3 if I can make it. I can do either original or Special Edition, and either Dante or Vergil. That's only if someone better can't make it or something.

And Mike, since you'll be doing Castle Crashers...you're going to sing Old Man River like you did in your run. And if you don't then I will!

And can I join Castle Crashers too as a 3rd/4th player? I never played it but I would love to try it out.  8)
