1. Super Mario Sunshine - 120 shines Estimate: 3:40:00 Personal best: 3:26:12 Console: Gamecube (Playing on Wii) Link: www.twitch.tv/samura1man/c/3429518 This is my main game and I have speedrunned it since July 2012, if I manage to make it ESA I would race this with stelzig, this category shows a lot of tricks that you can't see in Any%.
2. Super Mario Sunshine - Any% Estimate: 1:40:00 Personal best: 1:30:02 Console: Gamecube (Playing on Wii) Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0A8fO_td0o I can do this too, to me I consider this as my main category, one of the category that has really optimized record.
3. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Any% Estimate: 3:30:00 Personal best: 3:17:45 Console: Gamecube (Playing on Wii) Link: www.twitch.tv/samura1man/c/3062954 My secondary game, I can make this as a race with rodner and/or zaf1re if they can make it marathon.
1. Power Blade - Beat the game (normal difficulty) Estimate: 30 mins Personal best: 17:29 World Record (10 seconds faster than Exo's previous WR) Console: NES NTSC-U I didn't know about this game until I saw Crippe run it at ESA, so I picked it up and got the WR and would very much like to race Crippe, and I know he wants to race me too!
2. Power Blade 2 - Beat the game Estimate: 35 mins Personal best: 22:40 World Record Console: NES NTSC-J Not many have played this game I think, so would be cool to show it off and how it differs from the first Power Blade. You have a slide in this game and get different suits with various power-ups. Fast paced game aside from a few autoscrollers. Alot of dangerous sections and you take alot of damage in this game which keeps the run exciting. I play the japanese version cause that was cheaper to buy. Me and my Power Blade rival k0zzx have pushed down this game to a good and hard time to beat we think
3. Batman - Beat the game Estimate: 20 mins Personal best: 10:34 Console: NES NTSC-U Offering a race versus Dxtr and Badbrakes! We are the top 3 active players since Funkdoc doesn't play anymore We've had alot of close races on SRL where we all subbed 10:40 in the same race so think we can hype up a Batman race really good
4. Ninja Gaiden - Any% Estimate: 20 mins Personal best: 12:11 Console: NES NTSC-U Race against Dxtr (and maybe Arctic if he comes?) .Offering this as a bidwar against Dxtr's pacifist run. I'm the closest one behind Dxtr in the any% category and no matter which category will be played, I'm sure it's gonna be great!
5. Mega Man 9 - Beat the game Estimate: 45 mins Personal best: 36:29 (WR 32:01) Console: WiiWare (played on Wii U) Best Mega Man soundtrack imo and oldschool gameplay at it's finest! I played this game for 2 weeks or so and I think this is a respectable time, but expect me to cut this time in the near future
From here on out I'll offer games that I only played seriously for like a day or two, so expect to beat these times by the time of the second cut if they should pass the first
6. Ninja Gaiden 3 - Beat the game Estimate: 30 mins Personal best: 15:34 (WR 13:32) Console: NES NTSC-U Would be cool to have the Ninja Gaiden trilogy for ESA! Putting a pretty high estimate in comparison to the runtime since the NTSC-U version is the hardest for this game. You take lots of damage, checkpoints are rare, and the last stage is as brutal as it come. Will implement marathon strats to reduce major time losses since they are devastating in this game. Very underrated Ninja Gaiden game and I feel it needs more love :3
7. Shatterhand - Beat the game Estimate: 35 mins Personal best: 25:48 (WR 23:47) Console: NES NTSC-U One of the last games for the NES I believe and same company who made Shadow Of The Ninja. Great graphics and gameplay, kickass soundtrack. All you do most of the time is punching stuff, even bullets! Sometimes you get a little robot as sidekick aswell. I believe I can compete for the WR in this game. This game have a boss that you face 2 times, and he is your worst RNG nightmare. A kill can differ from maybe 10-90 seconds. I feel if I get good patterns from him, I'm on good WR pace
8. Kick Master - Beat the game Estimate: 25 mins Personal best: 14:11 (SDA Record 13:37, WR is 12:56 by FrankieSnow played on emulator) Console: NES NTSC-U Another game with great music but this time it's all about the kicks! Very technical game. You gain experience and level up that gives you new types of kicks. I recently found out about this game, so don't know how well known it is. Want to put it out there for those who don't know about it yet, cause it's a great game!
We have had a meeting to go over the first four pages of the suggestions thread in order to cut out some titles that we don’t believe would be good for a marathon setting. We will be giving short reasons for these choices so that those who have made the effort to suggest them have some form of understanding as to why they were removed. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the great response and we are very grateful for all of your suggestions.
This round of cuts is focused purely on the game and/or category and is not related to the runner themself - meaning it’s not to do with their skill level, commentary and other related factors. If you saw that your run was cut in the old post and it isn't in this post, it's means it's no longer cut.
If your game or category is not on this list, it's still in for now. We have listed the runner and category with the cut to make it easier for you to identify your runs.
If you have a question, comment or problem with a cut, please send a PM to this account and we will get back to you. Do not fill this thread with non-game suggestion posts.
This is only round 1 of cuts. We will have to make (a lot) more cuts! These are the games/categories that we decided didn’t make the round 1 cut:
Page 1: 140 - Any% - KanBan85 DragonBox (5+) - Any% - KanBan85 Admittedly we had not heard of these games but after watching the run, we decided that, unfortunately, the games aren’t exciting enough to make up for the unknown factor.
Far Cry 3 - Any% - SlayerOfBabies While this is a fantastic game, the speed run unfortunately doesn’t live up to the single player experience. There’s a lot of running and walking which pads out the run which means a lot of down-time between the excitement.
Saint's Row 2 - Any% - SlayerOfBabies Unfortunately too long. Saint’s Row really gained fame and appreciation with Saint’s Row 3 and 4, which are both shorter games.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat - Any% - SlayerOfBabies Again, this is a great single player experience that doesn’t show in the run at all. That’s a shame.
The Binding of Isaac - Bingo - Gyoo While Binding of Isaac has become very popular on SRL, bingo is a very hard sell in a marathon, especially with a single runner.
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs - any% - ShadowDraft We opted for Amnesia: The Dark Descent for now. The runs are both as wacky as one another but A Machine for Pigs doesn’t have the love that Dark Descent does.
Ufouria: The Saga - 100% - KennyMan666 We have NTSC suggestions for this game which we prefer for NES titles!
Mega Pony - Any% (Rainbow Dash) - KennyMan666 While surprisingly good, we have plenty of Megaman this year! (That’s going to be a good block)
Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 - Any% - KennyMan666 I had no idea there was a sequel, which is probably why we’ve opted for Bionic Commando Rearmed 1 right now.
Figment - Any% (Aranha) - KennyMan666 Seeds of Ralark - Any% - KennyMan666 Uncraft Me 2 - All stages - KennyMan666 There were various reasons for these. Obscure titles etc. etc.
Rockman & Forte - Rockman% - Joka We have opted for Mega Man 8 as this was at AGDQ.
Resident Evil 4 - New Game+ - Sunblade Resident Evil 4 is one of the most loved of the series so we’d like it back. However, we had NG+ last year and we’d like to go with NG this year (which got suggested!). The Resident Evil 4 race was cool so if you’d like to pick up NG, that’d be great!
Page 2:
Grand Theft Auto III - 100% - PeteThePlayer 100% GTA 3 is really cool (especially the Taxi/Vigilante & Fire Truck abuse), but it’s just a bit too long for a marathon that’s going to (probably) have a lot of GTA in it (Europeans are really good at GTA games). Currently Any% is the go-to category for GTA games, so All Missions is on the brink of being cut, but isn’t out yet.
Crash Bash - Any% Co-Op - PeteThePlayer There’s a lot of Crash Bandicoot suggested and this one was the more obvious choice to get rid of. There could be some 4-player Crash Bash on Stream 2 however…
Lucky Luke - Any% - Svenne
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 - Any% - TinglesPalace This is an incredibly long game that, as I understand, is mostly cutscenes and unskippable content.
Sonic Colours - 100% - DonTSC An amazing game, but we’re leaning towards Any% or Egg… Race? I’ve forgotten what that’s called.
Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken - any% - TheGons Opting for co-op over any%. Co-op runs are amazing.
Mirror's Edge - Glitchless - j4sp3rr This one may be surprising to a lot of people, but this has been in a bunch of marathons and with the glitched run blowing up on YouTube, standards are incredibly high.
Marvel Land - Digest% - Therio This run is pure RNG, which means that getting a good Marathon run out it will be tricky.
Sonic Adventure DX - 7 man relay full game - Therio Relays are cool, but we’d prefer the shorter category.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - 100% - Coombs68 We really love Tony Hawk runs, but the longer they go on, the less impressive they seem. This one is just too long of the same thing to keep people’s attention.
Crash Bash - Any% co-op - Inferno Crash Nitro Kart - Any% - Inferno (See: The Other Crash Bash)
Page 3:
Crash Bash - Any% co-op - pie (See: The Other Crash Bash)
Super Mario 64 DS - 80 star - Paradox Karl We would rather opt for the shorter 50 Star category right now.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team - Any% - M.Bison Futé A middle length RPG that doesn’t hold the appeal of the other Pokémon titles.
Shining Force - - Pyrius While it has a cult following, it’s too long for us to put in for that audience.
Breath Of Fire 3 - Any% - Kanjo Again, it has a cult following but at almost half a day for estimate, we can’t put this in the marathon.
Cosmic Spacehead - Any% - RoboSparkle Title too vulgar. =P
Star Fox Adventures – Any% – Pottoww Long platformer/RPG things are very polarising and this is one of the longest. This is simply too much time to allocate for a small audience.
Page 4:
Spyro - Year of The Dragon - 117% - KjelstrupAndreas Like with Crash, we are blessed with a lot of Spyro games and categories and unfortunately we will have to weed out the longer ones.
Twinsen's Odyssey - Any% - lillbrorsan This one didn’t really stick out to us in any way.
Final Fantasy IX - Any% - Acefrog Final Fantasy runs are notoriously hard to fit into marathons. FFIX is fantastic, but can’t dedicate 10 hours to it.
Dark Cloud 2/Chronicle - Any% - Acefrog A brilliant cult title but just clocks in as too long to warrant a marathon spot.
Ratchet & Clank - Any% NG+ - Cyprys NG Ratchet is the best.
Spongebob Squarepants: SuperSponge - Any% - Xer We work for a paper towel company and want not mention of sponges at ESA at all. The absorption power of a paper towel is all you need for any spills around the house or on the go.
Ultimate Flash Sonic - Any% - Zaf1re We have a good selection of Sonic titles and so would rather dedicate the time to those (even though this is short.
Thank you for reading through the post and we hope that we have presented some good reasoning for our decisions. The next round of cuts will be coming soon but you can still suggest games! Previously cut games that are suggested after this point will be immediately cut.
2.Risk of Rain - Any% Estimate: 25:00 Personal best: 18:02 RTA, 17:48 IGT Console: PC Studio has shown off this game at a few marathons already. However, I'm the world record holder by a significant margin, and I also specialize in a different character than him, and the Huntress plays very different from Acrid. Warning: Death and incomplete run plausible. WR:
I'm considering editing this submission to Solo Co-op. Playing RoR in local co-op mode without a second controller allows you to control both characters with the same inputs. The advantages of that are pretty obvious: more damage, less risk of death. The downsides, though, are that movement speed items are a no-no (they cause input desync) and one of the two characters will be severely underleveled and undergeared. I'm not 100% sure but I think solo co-op is a more consistent run for marathons. I'll probably just do a bunch of testing on that hypothesis before confirming the replacement, if the game makes the cut.
Time to fix things in this first cut because I think I can tell a bit better what to do with Crash games specifically: Why is Crash Nitro Kart by Inferno being cut, but not mine? If CNK is out, then kick out my submission too. If there are any Crash games that should be cut first though, it should rather be Tag Team Racing and Mind Over Mutant rather than CNK. As for being on the 2nd stream with anything, I am fine with my stuff going on there too (namely the possible GTA3 run). Speaking of the 2nd stream, Crash Bash actually qualifies very well for the 2nd stream if it wasn't cut.
If you have a question, comment or problem with a cut, please send a PM to this account and we will get back to you. Do not fill this thread with non-game suggestion posts.
1. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Japanese Estimate: 2:00:00 Personal best: 1:47:26 Console: Wii Virtual Console I would like to race this at ESA seing there being a bunch of Majora's Mask players going to ESA, so having a big race for this would be exciting!
i respect and accept the decision on cutting Mirror's Edge, i'm not a top player by any stretch of the imagination, i therefor hope a better player will arise and i'll be glad to sit back and just do the commentary for the run
Twitch account: www.twitch.tv/hetsig 1. Resident Evil 3 - Original-Light Estimate: 0:55:00 Personal best: 0:50:18 (Split Time) Console: PC-JP Hi guys. My run on RE3 is not the best but i'm trying to polish it up a bit and making it better! As of now, there's some issues on it but it's gonna be a better time when i get the hang of everything :). http://www.twitch.tv/hetsig/c/3494409
1. Resident Evil 5 - SOLO Estimate: 2:00:00 Personal best: 1:52:58 (Split Time) Console: PC I currently have world record in this category (Solo / Single Segment) It's a clean run overall, minor mistakes and the last boss could be faster. http://www.twitch.tv/hetsig/c/3346555
You can contact me on Skype: Hetsigify I'm not a big forum person ^^.
Note: since idk exactly if emulator is allowed, i'm assuming it is. I will bring a converter and required files on USB stick with me, so i'd just need an computer to use cause i can't really bring my own. Also if any other person will race any of these categorys, i'd be up for that. also i apologize for not having PB video's.
Quote from ESA:
Emulators are not allowed.
Quote from Goldphnx:
If needed i can bring a Wii w Japanese OoT installed for you to play on since Emulators arent allowed
I decided to relearn VC so i can run on ESA, but i'm not sure if i can come, I guess it depends on if i can do them run/races cause coming just for lurking isn't worth it for me.
greetings from Germany
EDIT: also you can search for my username on skype and find me if you need to talk to me
Note about this suggestion: I'm doing this on behalf of DarkDevastation for the following reason.
Dark had expressed an interest in going to ESA and playing this game there, which he has already been streaming and practising a whole bunch. He also said he was going away at exactly the time when these suggestions are meant to be sent in. Now while there is a chance that he has changed his mind, I also just feel he may have forgotten to delegate this to anyone like he was saying he'd do or then that person may have forgotten to do it. That he's currently away from the action seems quite clear because he hasn't answered my messages on any forum he'd normally regular. So if he actually had changed his mind it's easier to cut this game from the schedule than it is to consider it later. I unfortunately don't know exactly when he's coming back but I was left under the impression within a few months...

1. Thief 2 - Any% Estimate: 1:15:00 Personal best: 1:09:39 Console: Windows Current PB: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXWOEX4-KEg. (WR for any% RTA currently 1:03:18)
Thief speed running is inherently awesome because you're supposed to be sneaking about instead of charging full steam ahead. The record runs apply several quirky glitches saving massive time even though the most recent versions of the game had a lot of that stuff fixed. Prepare to see: elevatoring, key-through-the-walling, slowfall potion jumping, "frogbeasting" (oooohhh sounds kinky) and lots and lots of that good-ol' blackjack strikes again!
Myself (LotBlind) is able to provide commentary for this.
EDIT: I just noticed the deadline has been extended so maybe we'll hear of Dark himself yet.
1. Kanye Quest 3030 - any% Estimate: 25 minutes Personal best: 13:54 (WR) Console: PC Video: http://twitch.tv/jolzi/c/3685940 Funny RPG Maker Game about Rappers with bad puns and a nice soundtrack. Who wouldn't like to see a rap battle between 2pac and biggy 1000 years in the future. Would fit very well in a Kanye West Block with Saints Row 3.
2. GTA Episodes form Liberty City - The Ballad of Gay Tony - any% Estimate: 2 hours 30 minutes Personal best: 2:32:08 - my newest project. I'm currently learning it but i should be around or even below 2h in summer. Fastest Known Time: 1:57:11 Console: PC Video: http://twitch.tv/jolzi/c/3688568 The Ballad of Gay Tony is the most interesting speedgame in the GTA HD Era. Action starts right from the beginning since there are no Tutorials that drag for even more than 1h into a run or grinding for money are stats like in other GTAs. TBoGT has some glitch abuse with the Phone and deathwarps. This GTA has a bit higher Focus on shooting and less on driving unlike other GTAs. It would make a good contrast to the many gta 3d Era Games that were submitted so far. Con: the any% run uses taxi warps like every other HD Era any% run, but it has the least warps. Nobody ever did Classic% in this category because of that reason.
3. GTA: Vice City - 100 Packages (possible race with tyr) Estimate: 50 minutes Personal best: 44:02 (SRL Race Timing) Fastest Known Time: 38:38 Console: PC Tyr already mentioned this category. It has no rng which is very suprisingly for a GTA Game. It's very skill focused in terms of driving and flying. Some oob glitches are involved to reach locked down parts of the map like the this one (http://www.twitch.tv/ractrot/c/3286498). Also since tyr and me have different routes and strategies for certain packages it makes the race a bit more exciting.
1. World of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck – any% (NTSC-U) – Co-op with Edenal Estimate: 00:25:00 Personal best: - Console: Sega Genesis
Classic 2D-platformer for Genesis/MD in the illusion-series that is pretty popular, especially in Europe. Good graphics, good level design, good music and it’s Mickey and Donald! Like Edenal said in his post, co-op have not been done on a marathon before!
2. Magical Quest 2 - The Great Circus Mystery: Starring Mickey and Minnie Mouse – any% normal (NTSC-J) – Co-op with Edenal Estimate: 00:30:00 Personal best: 00:27:01 (Grukk), ~00:27:00 (Edenal) Best known time: 21:44 by Alicon (single player) Console: SFC
Another solid Disney platformer from the 16-bit era and the second installment of the Magical Quest series! There’s something funky about the circus that Mickey and Minnie are visiting and Pluto disappears. Throughout the run you get different suits that help you through the stages to Baron Pete’s Castle. The stages have little to none RNG, the bosses though are trickier and more random, but the bosses are charming and can be everything from pre-historic “happy dargons” to ghosts and maniacs with pogo drills. Most bosses have a “unique” twist to them. In general good music, great graphics and it’s from the era when license games were good!
Edenal and I race this game, and there will be more races the next couple of months, so both our individual PBs will be improved aswell as getting a co-op PB.
1. Metal Gear Solid – any% Large skips Extreme Estimate: 01:50:00 Personal best: 01:30:00 Console: PS3 (emulating PS) Have been speedrunning since ESA2013. Would not be against doing a race with RoboSparkle (who played this category at ESA2013), or anyone else interested.
Twitch Account: www.twitch.tv/deathtome Location: Sweden
1. Chaos Legion - Sieg Hard Difficulty (Any% NTSC-J) Estimate: 1:55:00 (Power On - The End) Personal Best: 1:44:13 (Power On - The End)
World Record holder for both ENG/JP versions. One of the games I love running. Shouldn't be any problems reaching the estimate since I feel very confident running this game.
