That's good news to me lol

I gotta say I'm really digging how tight this game is in terms of sequence breaking so far anyways. Sequence breaking is interesting, but it's just not my thing.

Mikami games have been pretty tight in terms of sequence breaking, so hopefully we will get to see a skill based speedrun, not a glitch fest!

Obviously this is subject to change, but I am really loving the fact that these sections are built with skipping in mind, not allowing the player to just cheese his way through it.

I'm almost done Akumu difficulty, been playing an hour or two a night, at the end of chapter 12 now and it should be smooth sailing from here on out. Then it's gonna be a brass knuckle run, soooooo good
Alright so I'm going to post my Results here, too. Thanks to Magnum66 for the inspiration stream yesterday evening.
I'm not a professional speedrunner like some here in the forums.
My platform is on Playstation with the current Update 1.01.
Both speedruns (so far) are done without any glitching out of the area (OoB) and also not in 1 segment (AKUMU took ~2 days). Of course I didn't collect everything which is possible on the game.

So some good news that actually took some time to figure out. You CAN skip the Laura fight in 10! Smiley

Once you close her behind the door you go through another door and there you see the ending elevator. Just noclip around to it and you will get the cutscene! This game does have a sequence break check though (although not a very good one). If you skip the cutscene you will be in a suspended state and will softlock yourself. You must watch the entire cutscene (with invisible Laura/Ruvik which takes maybe a minute?) and then the game continues as normal in the chapter 9 start area.

Wow Oversoldier, congrats! Those are some killer times, especially the Akumu run! You're definitely pretty damn good at this game haha, you're a beast. I'd love to see some of your strats whenever your runs go up on SDA.

As for today, I broke my new game speedrun PB! The run is here: http://www.twitch.tv/exisidis2/c/5381143

I think sub 4:10 is doable.

Edit: My current splits for the run http://puu.sh/ctlo0/38429bd4f2.png

are you playing on PS4 Oversoldier? I'd like to see you stream if you have PS4.

a 4 hour akumu run? with 46 deaths? on new game? uhhhh, yeah that doesn't sound right at all, sorry. I'd have to see the video of you playing it, WAY too many are using hacks and cheats to get through Akumu. Not calling you a liar, but from what I've seen it sounds too good to be true. I just finished Akumu last night, and while only a few sections are really that bad, 4 hours and 46 deaths, I'm totally curious what encounters you will going fast and which ones you were skipping entirely.

Were you loading on deaths?

PS4 is the only system I will trust with times right now, since it's unhackable at this moment. PS3 and Xbox 360 are hacked to hell and people have been trophy/achievement glitching it for weeks now. A friend and I have already dealt with plenty of cheaters that show up in streams, post a picture of their completion with 100 deaths, then offer tips that literally don't make sense or work, proving they are completely full of shit.

Only reason I ask, my friend was literally the first person in the world to finish Akumu, and it took him 3 days of dedicated playing with over 500 deaths, and he's insanely good at these games. He's playing "Akuku" mode now, which is Akumu with NO CHECKPOINTS, only using the Save Rooms ONCE. He got through Chapter 12 last night with no checkpoints which is completely utterly insane.

I will start my speedrun trophy tonight, will be doing casual with the knuckles just to relax and chill out, i finished Akumu last night and now want to just annihilate everything without trying

How do you know that? I think a lot of people would have beat it and not posted or recorded on leaderboards.

I haven't tried speeding through on any mode yet, but if you know Akumu and don't die a lot, plus not in one segment, I'd say around 4 hours is possible on new game. Just a guess though.

Just finished streaming and found a new trick/timesaver in chapter 1 that saves over 30 seconds. I also managed to find a softlock. Uploading to Youtube and will repost the videos here once I've got them up. Smiley Very cool stuff!

Okay the first video:

Description: I found out you can get the chainsaw sadist to break open the door for Sebastian super early. If you hide in the locker after he breaks the original door down into the room, the game allows you to leave if you want WHILE the sadist is in the room. Normally this isn't allowed but entering locker later does allow this. You then have to hide in the locker until the sadist starts running back to the left of the room to break the 1st box. You can then leave and stand by the exit door and he will attempt to hit you and break down the door at the same time, and much earlier.

This saves approximately 30 seconds in a speedrun. Smiley

The very funny softlock I found in Chapter 1:

Description: Cart too stronk.

If you push the cart into the room in front of the surveillance cameras, Sebastian will try to walk into the cutscene of watching Ruvik kill the officers. However the cart will be in the way and make it impossible for him to make it there and watch, resulting in a softlock lol. Enjoy.

Very cool stuff Smiley

Also my new Chapter 1 PB with the new timesaver trick:
Nice finds!

Something funny happened to me accidently on Akumu, and I survived being hit. A haunted got me with that standard two part grab where they slam you to the ground then stomp your face. Right before the stomp came down Joseph hit the haunted cancelling the stomp and Sebastian got up with low HP.

Interesting because he was in that low HP standing position and that shouldn't even be possible in this mode.
Takahashi Meijin
Nice finds!

Oversoldier, was that a single segment?
Found something interesting but useless so far unless someone can find a way to make it work.

In Chapter 11 I think, the city one where you enter that area with some fences and you need to get that keycard.
From on top of that big container you can walk on the fences but only while aiming. For some reason if you don't aim he just slides off. I was trying to jump over the keycard door.

The fences are separated and you need to make a precise jump from on to the other. You can do this by getting as far to the end as possible and immediately hold run and get the jump. So you'll be jumping to the fence beside the forklift.

From there you can jump toward the fence of the door but I can never make it because it always does the short jump. Must be because you can't get a run up from the fence. I've tried blowing myself that way with rockets but that just send you down. Could be something useful here.
Got my DVD recorder working. Here's what I've found so far.

http://twitch.tv/Exisidis2
Very cool stuff Zero! I swear I tried that 2nd chapter 11 OoB jumping off that car, and couldn't make it over fence, weird. Now just the countdown until we find a useful glitch. Hopefully soon. Main ones are chapter 7 skipping the wall of Keeper, and chapter 10 OoB right to elevator to skip Laura fight.
Yeah it was the same for me, I couldn't get over that fence but then I thought I'd try it one more time since I was in the area and it worked. I couldn't believe it. Having a checkpoint right below the car doesn't help and makes testing difficult. Made me realize I need to re-check the whole game for other stuff I thought didn't work.

I'm sure if we could run on top of those other fences we could get over the door that requires the key but if you try to move outside of aiming you just slip off instantly.

I wasn't going to put the stuck car video up but I thought it would be interesting because if how the water monsters disappear and reappear. Like, they aren't actually physically there all the time swimming around.
I asked on the GameFAQs board but not expecting much as it's one of the most hostile, troll infested boards I've seen, but do any of you know how to deal with that dog on Akumu?

Specifically, how to drop it during its charge attack from the bushes. I've seen a vid of someone doing it consistently with the shotgun but it never works for me. I've even shot it in places that make no sense like its back leg and that worked, then the next time it didn't.

Seems like a messed up hitbox. It went down easily on survival no matter where I shot it. Some say to shoot the mouth on its neck. That didn't really work. Sometimes it went down just being shot in the face. I don't know. Any tips?
Takahashi Meijin
For the Akumu cerberus, I would use electric bolts to stun him, then follow up with the shotgun or rifle, then get to a safe spot and repeat that process. It should take about 3 cycles depending on the shotgun damage. Considering if it even touches you your body explodes, avoiding him is the biggest issue, and minding the bear traps. Staying near his rearend is a good idea too, it lets you avoid his melee grab and leaves you in good positioning if he decides to start running laps.

That fight is really unpolished and wonky feeling, like a lot of fights in the game lol

the players shotgun critical could have been maxed out too, it might be a critical hit that drops him?

Just remember, it's not about being able to see... It's about feeling normal!

Joseph Oda Forever
Hi, new here.

I'm currently working on speedrunning this game starting from a new game.

Here's a video of me doing chapter 10. It took me a while to figure out the quickest way through it. I made a few mistakes and even died once at the end but I'm quite happy with the time

I have 3 shock bolts and went like like this. Shock, grenade, shock, explosive bolt, shock, another exp bolt, then he walked around and I blasted him several times with the shotgun and it wasn't enough. He then just walked past and I exploded from barely touching him

The player was doing a no upgrade run. Shotgun at base level and dropping him every time.
I was also able to drop him as he charged but with the most random results. Seeing only part of the blast hit his back leg as I barely avoided it and he still dropped, showed me that this boss must have the most messed up hitbox.

I'm finding this fight harder than the previous part of chapter 6 where Joseph is disarming the bomb doors.
Takahashi Meijin
Nice title page! thumbed up, good stuff!

btw, you can tap circle to drop off ladders, and you will never take fall damage just like in RE4. There is also another huge ladder you can drop into the pool of blood, and you can easily run by the crucifix enemy that is down there.

Good luck with your runs buddy! I'll keep an eye out

I see, was that Seraphim17's vid?

I had stamina 5 at the beginning of chapter 6, so the Joey Oda disarm special wasn't too bad, took about 30 minutes compared to the HOURS I've seen people struggle through. I got past the cerberus in about 10 tries on Akumu, i'll chalk it up to being lucky with that my initial strategy was pretty safe and effective.

Chapter 11 is also a sticking point, with that gate that opens up. Watching my friend do that, the following section THEN the gondola ride without checkpoints was insane!

Yes I know the game has checkpoints, but he was loading his save room save, and only using the save room once! He had to do ALL of chapter 12 in one go too, no save room there! Akuku I tell you!
Yeah it was Seraphim17's. Even when I shoot the dog in the same place at the same time I get no result. Sometimes it works, but I'm not seeing any rule to it.

I'll go back to looking for more OOB. It's what I do when I can't win on Chapter 6 lol.
I was actually messing around with the dog trying to get him stuck. I got him stuck by a tree but he can walk out of it.

Just got Batman Arkham City so I'll play that a little before attempting this fight again.

Found a new cutscene skip today while streaming. In chapter 14 right before the Quell boss fight when you walk under the sewer pipe and he grabs you by the leg and you have to shoot him 3 times. If you stop a few feet short, aim up, you can see him beforehand and shoot him just once and he'll go away and you can then walk by without having the cutscene occur at all. Should save at least 20-30 seconds. Smiley

Edit: The cutscene skip I was talking about:

Also another crank glitch I got in chapter 7 -

If you look earlier on my Youtube account I got another one just like that on the crank in chapter 3 that you use to help Jimenez distract the haunted.
Wow, nice skip. I hate that guy.

I wonder if we could do something with the boss fight? I hate that fight so much.
http://twitch.tv/Exisidis2
Okay so I just timed the Chapter 14 cutscene skip and it saves 15-16 seconds. Oh well, time is still time.

James Quall? Electric Bolt + A Magnum Clip and it's pretty much over immediately. I beat him in about 10 seconds on on my Akumu run
