Finished this a few days ago. Instead of trying the higher difficulty I'm taking a break by glitch hunting on NG+. You unlock chapter select after the beating the game which is incredibly useful for testing.

Already found two OOBs but both are useless.

The first happened by accident while I was going through a crack in the wall and you get the prompt to move through. Sebastian just kept stepping sideways even after getting through and stayed in that animation. I could keep moving in a straight line from that gap and went right through the walls of the house and eventually out of bounds. There was no way to get out of that position though.

The second I can do anytime but it puts you under the map. If I can find a way to not get push out it should be useful but I've tested it a lot and can't seem to do anything.

There's a lot of places where you can move objects like boxes or chairs and walk up them. The running jump from certain places can get you to points you should normally be able to go but nothing useful yet.

I'm going to be be testing non-stop and will post here. Hope to get a video up soon.

As for non glitch strats, at the start I think chapter two, when you start from the burning ambulance. When you find the gun and have to fight that guy, you can just run straight into the cave and he won't follow. There's most likely a lot of parts where you can just run by enemies but I'm 100% sure having only beat the game once.

Some spoilers in my post. After beating the game, I can't see how a NG run would be done that didn't spend most time collecting supplies. The only thing I can think of would be NG+ and keeping the RL ammo stocked for bosses and harder enemies.

I've been using the debug commands of the PC version which is basically everything someone needed to test sequence breaks. Walk through walls, infinite ammo and god mode. Like you found out, it's really bad OoB in this game where you instantly fall but luckily the PC version noclip command allows floating. Here's what I've tested so far.

Chapter 1: Obviously the holy grail of this game is get into the 15 area from inside 1. This at the moment doesn't seem doable though as it seems to be a different map. The door to the right of the monitor room has nothing loaded behind it. One interesting thing is the door you eventually go through behind the locks in the basement does actually have a door open command but once you open it, you fall down. It is weird that if it was a different map, why did they let the door that you never access to have an open command? Likely just a bad copy/paste but I'll definitely look back at this. It would be stupid not to. Would literally save like 3+ hours.

Chapter 2: You can float anywhere to the end cutscene as long as you hit loading triggers. You can even skip getting the lantern, lol.

Chapter 3: The game checks that you beat the sadist and used the chainsaw on the chains before giving you the cutscene behind the gate. No skips here.

Chapter 4: You can basically just noclip down to the Leslie room. This is another problem the game has which means finding legitimate breaks is so much harder. If I disable the no clip above a room, the top part of it has collision so you don't actually fall down into it. This means any sequence break pretty much has to be on the same level/clipping past a door for it to work. The fight where you start in the blood bath has a checkpoint JUST behind the closed off door. Seriously if you clipped half in you would get the checkpoint easily.

Other things I want to check is skipping that big fight in 6 and not having to get those two other pieces before the Keeper fight in 7.

Sorry, I don't understand some of your post. Are you saying the PC has an option to let you float around and find out where the triggers are? So you can find where you can go, but it's up to us to find out how to get there?

I haven't had any luck clipping though walls or doors, and most places just make you slide back down.
In the city stage after you get on the bus you can climb on some cars by using the running jump from the right place and get higher than the short wall around this but invisible barriers block the way.

The OOB is in the city too where you start in the water outside of the elevator. You need to swim to the left and get in the corner between the elevator that the wall. You can stand up here and drop a grenade at you feet. If you let a grenade knock you underwater you seem to sink to the bottom and you can hold the direction of the elevator and somehow slide under it. From there though, you keep sliding and cant see the character. Right behind the elevator is OOB and it forces you out.

What's funny is you'll be falling but in swimming animation. I was actually trying to get an air swimming glitch going.

I believe because of this, grenades may be key to doing anything. I've tried skipping the lantern by blowing myself away at the same time as going to pick it up but he just grabs it and takes no damage from the explosion. If you try climbing ladders when one goes off you just take damage but keep climbing.

Seems all we need to do is find a way to get height and just walk over stuff. I've got onto places that you wouldn't normally be able to but they don't lead anywhere.

Yes. It floats around and has walk through walls ability. You can also lower yourself by pressing circle and raise yourself by pressing triangle. Highly recommend trying it out. I've got it set up with XPadder so I can play with a PS3 controller.

I don't have a gaming PC.

Right now I'm switching between Akumu and NG+ glitch hunting as a break.

There are more places you can just run for it. On NG+ right near the start where you chase Leslie into that shack and learn the stealth kill on the haunted banging on the door, I found I had enough stamina to dash to the door at about the same time the freak got there and he just ignored me and kept banging the door even though I'm standing in his body. Didn't register until I backed off.

You can just kick the door and jump through the window and he can't follow. I'm sure there's many other parts like this.
The shit that happens when you're not recording!

I'm on Akumu and somehow instantly killed Laura. I ran into the furnace, climbed the ladder and pulled the switch a little early. I could see she wasnt down there and figured she was making her way up the stairs behind me. I ran that way then suddenly heard her scream. The door seal unlocked and the battle ended. I found her in the furnace halfway up the wall but only her legs sticking out of the wall.

Now unless there's a critical hit that makes no sense and forces her into a wall, this is a huge glitch that needs to be replicated. I only just finished the fight and I'm not going to restart and waste any progress on this mode but later I'll put it on casual and blast through to that point.

If you're near that fight have a try. All I did was pull the switch early. I've dropped her under that floor to the fire many before and it took both furnaces, exploding barrels (which aren't in Akumu) and a flaming torch or two to kill and that was on Survival. Something's up here.
Awesome that other people are planning to / speedrunning this game. I'm interested in it myself. I spent a lot of time on my first playthrough trying to get OoB but couldn't manage it. Couldn't find any sequence breaks either, but I didn't start looking until fairly late into it.

I agree that the game will probably be fastest to run in NG+. Not sure if the game counts the cutscenes as IGT, or if it only counts when you are in control?

Will let you know if I find anything in my play-throughs.

Good to hear others are looking into this game.

Just wanted to add something I thought of just now. I found her legs sticking out of the wall but also in the ladder. What I think happened was she did get into the room when I pulled the switch but was too quick for me to notice and she may have been mounting the ladder when I pulled the switch. This would explain why she's floating about two steps up from the floor.

My guess is that if she's still touching the floor while starting the climb animation, she gets caught in there somehow.

As for timers maybe TheThrillness could help you with that using PC version magic.

I have no plans to actually do a run myself, but I will be testing stuff and glitch hunting for running purposes.

In chapter 12, you don't need to use the machine gun turret. You can just run by the enemies and jump over the school bus.
Takahashi Meijin
it doesn't always let you just hop in the bus, sometimes enemies will take over the gun and it won't allow you to get on the bus

NG+ would most definitely be the way to go, the brass knuckles wreck most enemies in a single hit

and lol at all the people complaining about the black bars and FOV
Lol, agreed. I loved the black bars. Made it feel like a tarantino style grindhouse film ( moreso than actual horror ). Mostly the game reminded me of movies like "Hostel", that are more gore, but still sorta scare you in parts.

Gotta get me them brass knuckles. How do you unlock them? Complete the game on Hard Mode I'm guessing ?

Yeah I've seen people posting that they got them for beating Nightmare mode.

I may be on to why Laura was instantly defeated. Need to test more. Got it to happen again though this time her body was lying on the ground properly by the ladder. I know it's about her starting to climb when the floor goes out. Hard to time when you can't see her from the switch.

Yes it happened again but I was on casual to make testing easier and stupidly realized this would make her easier to defeat. She still went down earlier in one of the casual tests, but I'm going to repeat that chapter on Akumu again to make sure.

I got another small OOB of sorts. I didnt get out of the map but in Chapter 11 I think where you have to swim and avoid the water monster. I managed to get stuck inside one of the white cars you can climb on. I was stuck in first person and couldn't move. I could see the monster swimming beneath me. Was kind of cool but useless.

This was in that part where you first see one of those doors that rises and drops and you have to distract the monsters to get to it. As soon as you enter here you'll be standing on some large containers and the car in directly to your right.

To your left is a bus blocking the way and if we can get through there it would be a massive shortcut IF that's the same white bus you see later when you go around. Using grenades then swimming knocks you down quite deep which is how I got the elevator OOB and the car.

The bus seems too far and grenades explode too quickly but I'm sure we could get under the bus. It's a pain to test with those monsters around.

Actually I'll test the Laura thing on Survival. I know in that mode she can take two times in the furnace, two barrels and flaming torches.
I was using corpses in one of the swimming bits, trying to get OoB. The corpses are rigid, and when you walk on them, they function as solid ground. This was in the first water bit, right before you go through that little concrete tube to meet the water monster for the first time.

I wedged a corpse between the car and the concrete tube, but was unable to get anywhere. Too many invisible walls blocking the way. Though if there is a glitch with grenades, it might be worth trying it there as well. Just to confirm that you can even get OoB with the glitch at all. Might be useful in other places if it works.

Wow, I never would have guessed the corpses would do that. They're so easily knocked aside and seem so light that they wouldn just flop out of the way if you tried to stand on them. Nice find.

I know you can pile up chairs and boxes and walk up them, but they're always indoors so not useful at all from what I've seen.

I did try to grenade myself underwater near that pipe but no luck there.

You know that part where there's a floating wooden platform and the rilfe guy shoots and destroys it? You can climb onto the white car and shoot him so the platform is safe. It's not something you can climb on anyway but you can move it around and I'm pretty sure you could walk from a car to it. Only problem is those damn monsters. Can they even be killed? They're ruining any resting in this area.

If the only issue is someone getting on the gun, would a flash bolt work? You could stun the whole group. Maybe even leave a shock bolt trap beside the turret.

Double post was an accident.
Laura instant kill 100% confirmed!

The furnace you want is to the right from where you enter this area. The one where you climb up. Go near the middle of this area where she appears and as soon as she does get to that ladder and wait by the switch. The only issue is the timing must be perfect. It took many attempts, and I never fully saw what happens down there but I feel it's just as she's mounting the ladder.

It's either she drops into the fire or is already up the ladder when you pull the switch. Too early or too late. That's why I guess it's as she grabs but hasn't fully started climbing. This is three times this has happened under these circumstances and is not a random glitch. So far it has worked on casual, survival and akumu.

One thing I noticed every time is, if you get it right, you don't hear her start screaming from the fire immediately. There's a delay which at first I thought mean she was already halfway up the ladder. Then the door seal is immediately lifted.

I really hope you guys can test this out so we can get a better feel for the timing. I was trying to use her footsteps as a reference when she enters, then she stops and starts climbing. The window is there somewhere.

I tried burning one with a match - didn't work. In the first area with one, you can turn around after walking through the concrete pipe. Then, you can shoot a zombie way up and behind you, he'll run into the water and die. So I then pushed his non-stiff corpse up to the top of the pipe, where the monster starts coming even though the body isn't in the water. I dropped a match on the guy right as the monster ate him, but it didn't do anything. Damn.

I started Akumu last night and got to chapter 5, I'll record and test that Laura method if it works!

Thanks for the info, that fight is really easy anyways but a quick kill is always hilarious
Yeah it is an easy fight, so that trick will only be useful in a speedrun. On survival she takes more than two furnaces and the barrels which adds up to a bit of running around.

I actually have no idea how much it takes on Akumu because the first time I got this glitch was by accident on that mode.

About those water monsters, I've tried grenades and the rocket launcher, what looked like direct hits. No result.
Takahashi Meijin
The water monsters cannot be killed

It's cool they are messed up mermaid women, and if you look closely you can see they wear braces on their teeth!

Love talking about this game, look forward to seeing what people come up with. Maybe when I'm done getting 100% in the game I'll see what I can find
When the game forces you to walk you can draw your weapon and move a little faster. Not sure if it works in all instances of this but in chapter 5 when you see Ruvik appear and walk into the next room you get forced to walk. I almost caught up to him before he vanished.

Just found another big glitch. This one is in chapter 3.

As TheThrillness said, you can't skip the chainsaw part because the game checks. I found a way to get past the spike wall trap and got through the open gate. No enemies appear but when you get just beyond the gate, although you can see the next area, you'll fall through the floor and end up falling under the map. I really wish this game just triggered by cut-scenes.

I used the rocket launcher just out of range of the spike wall trigger with Sebastian's back to it, and shot the ground. This sent him flying back and the spike wall passed through him.

No enemies and when you check the chain he just stands there talking about it instead of grabbing it and looking around. If you go to where the chainsaw man is, the wall will burst open and you'll hear the chainsaw for a second then nothing. Afew seconds later Sebastian still says he has to take him down.

You can still collect items and disarm traps. And if you go back through the barn and over the spike trap you can meet the doctor and continue as normal, though something weird happened after he went down to get the haunted's attention. Every last one on the map was coming into that room through the barn. I was just standing by the crank blowing them away. They already knew where I was and most of them were in the building from what I could tell.

I checked on chainsaw man and found the wall was still down. He broke out of the chains normally and picked up his chainsaw. The game proceeded as normal after I beat him.

Looks like OOB might be totally useless in this game judging by the rules we've seen. Something could be possible with grenades and rockets. I wonder what other triggers or traps we could blast ourselves past? I'll be looking into this.
thethrillness.blogspot.com
My friend is going to be doing the first ever public speedrun of this game in afew minutes: http://www.twitch.tv/exisidis2

Mainly just to test how feasible NG will be. Estimating about 3:30 run time.
Takahashi Meijin
You can also use melee's in sludge to move faster, same for the "The Last of Us World Famous Walk and Talk Sections"

it's a shame this game falls to "modern design", like walk and talk and some unskippable nonsense.

a friend of mine has been doing a no checkpoint Akumu run, looks SO much fun! He's only using the Save Rooms and only using them ONCE per visit. Pretty hardcore stuff

A speedrun should definitely be under 4 hours, especially with the brass knuckles. You can run by a surprising number of things in this game. Trap bolts could be very handy in keeping enemies still enough while you use a switch/crank

can you save/load and fix the progress?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean? After glitching through the spike trap, I should try going back to the save room and save then load?
