So the run is over. Run time was 5:10:57 IGT with 35-40 minutes of mistakes (9 deaths). Sub 4 should be the eventual target.

Based on RTA timing which was 5:23:17 (stop timer on final brain stomp input), we can assume the game does not count death time. This means speedruns will need to be timed RTA to keep it fair.

As Greg already so kindly mentioned, did my first speedrun of this game earlier today. Here is the video: http://www.twitch.tv/exisidis2/c/5348138

Like Greg also said, this game should be timed RTA for sure, it's the only thing that makes sense. Also timing should stop on the final input (pressing X to stomp on Ruvik's brain) and start as soon as you select the difficulty. I think this category (new game, casual) speedrun can eventually be about... sub 4:20? Maybe if glitches are found sub 4 like Greg said.  New game + however, yet to be tested. I wanted to run it as well very badly.

Can someone also confirm yet if you can just run to the bus in Chapter 12 without using the turret? If so would be a great help and would save time on my next run. Also I don't think you can get a Laura instant kill like what was being talked about. Yes you finish her off in the right furnace, but I only ever did so by doing damage to her first. Usually 2-3 flame harpoons first, or lighting a match or 2 on her and hitting her with a torch. Then by the time you drop her into the right furnace, it's enough to finish her off. Don't think there's a way to just drop her off into the right furnace right off the bat and kill her, I've done that and she still lives.

It's very specific timing made harder because you can't see her at the base of the ladder. My explanation is the closest I can guess to what happens based on testing the same conditions with success 3 times. The failure rate is really high unless we can get the exact timing. With this, all we have to do is run right into that furnace and instantly kill her.

As I said it's my closest guess. That the floor drops just as she climbs the ladder but may still be touching the ground.

More chapter 3 nonsense. After blowing myself through the spike trap, I found there's a checkpoint in the house closest to the gate, the one that has the rifle guy on the second floor and the spike trap inside. The checkpoint only worked if I came around the back and the window smashes. Then a guy with a torch will run down the stairs and killing him activates the checkpoint.

After that I used rockets to kill myself. When I reloaded the glitch was still active, but the chainsaw guy was there and I could hear him groaning and the chains. I went to the gate chain and examined it then went back and the chainsaw guy came out. I killed him and got the chainsaw like normal. The enemies still didn't appear. Seems they only do when you first meet the doctor which was skipped here.

I cut the chain and the gate closed, but the cutscene happened and the doctor just walked right through it. When Sebastian walked up to it opened. Wtf? The game proceeded normally from here.

I restarted to mess around and got more fun to happen. I lured the chainsaw guy to the part beyond the gate in an attempt to make him fall through the floor but I fell by accident. After a long fall below the map, you'll land and be able to run around in a blue void. The funny thing is, I looked up and saw the chainsaw guy falling down too. So funny. Then 3 haunted appeared and attacked so I killed them and went up to the chainsaw guy. He ignored my presence so I killed him and got the chainsaw.

I killed myself with rockets again and the checkpoint put me in the bard with the chainsaw on the ground by the entrance. The enemies were back too.

This was fun but useless. If you're running NG+ you'd be able to run past everything then one shot the chainsaw guy with the magnum or something. Interesting that meeting the doctor and that whole scene can be skipped.

I think I want to try an Akumu brass knuckle speedrun

my friend is doing a no checkpoint Akumu run, only doing hard save rooms and only using them once. Chapter 10 has NO save rooms lol, so hardcore

Akumu NG+ is what I would speed run on personally. One hit kills are the way to go. if they can patch out some jank it will be much more doable.

A new glitch I got a few days ago. Must have to do with the bottle whipping animation but I couldn't recreate it. If doable at other cranks in the game could lead to OoB.
http://twitch.tv/Exisidis2
This guy found a few Out of Bounds glitches so far on Youtube. They are pretty cool:

Chapter 3 OoB:

Chapter 9 OoB:

Chapter 11 OoB:

Chapter 12 OoB:

They all seem useless unless the chapter 12 one you can just run right to where Ruvik would show up while you're driving the bus at the end, but I imagine that trigger isn't there unless you do the other stuff first.
Yeah this game is just like Lollipop Chainsaw and pisses me off. You can OOB but nothing loads.

This game looks to be exactly the same. My experience in chapter 3 and what TheThrillness found in the PC version shows us that certain things NEED to happen before the next area can load.

This guy's chapter 3 doesn't work for me. I'm playing on PS3 so that might be why. I can't get the gun to push through the fence no matter what. I wouldn't mind exploring the water area. Interesting that you can swim when swimming hasn't been introduced yet.

Chapter 12 looks interesting. I was hoping we'd be able to run the full length of the road the bus takes. Would be so funny if the spider boss appeared while we're on foot. I'm going to try this one and see if I can get anything useful out of it.
http://twitch.tv/Exisidis2
I got the Chapter 3 OoB glitch to work almost right away, actually pretty easy. Keep at it and you'll get it. You have to stay VERY tight and close to the fence.

I just tested chapter 12. The first on puts you on the road and you can walk to the end, quite a long way, until it's blocked by rubble. If you go any further you'll fall. No trigger for Ruvik up here sadly.

The second one goes nowhere really. You can get to the road behind the bus but invisible walls stop you from getting closer. I was hoping to enter the bus and get a checkpoint.

I tried chapter 3 again but it just doesn't work. I press right up on the wall and the gun doesn't pass through, as if there's an extra barrier here. Even the way the camera hovers behind him is different from mine.

Edit: Infinite stamina.

The player doesn't know how it happened. Not sure what version it is either.
http://twitch.tv/Exisidis2
By the button icons at the end, it looks like XBOX One version. Very interesting though.

Just found a new glitch in The Evil Within where you can walk around standing inside crawlspaces, fireplaces, and vents. Unequip whatever weapon you have out with circle button or B, then make sure the lantern is out and on in Sebastian's hand. Face the crawlspace or opening in front of you and press the melee button and then the crouch button right after, tap one after another. Seabastian melee's and slightly crouches during. The game starts putting you under the crawlspace during the melee animation and doesn't give Sebastian enough time to put the lantern on his belt and crouch. So if you walk around you will be standing fully up inside of a crawlspace with Sebastian's head inside of the wall and everything. So far though looks totally useless...

*Sigh*
Awesome find. So can you run inside the crawlspaces? Would save time at least.

The infinite sprint must be some thing like this too, some kind of animation conflict. I asked the player if he noticed anything when it happened but sadly didn't actually see when it started, thinking it may have started after sprinting and bumping into something.

That's the thing, it's totally fucking useless. You can only walk normally. You can't aim, if you equip a weapon you go unglitched and back to crouching, and you can't melee or do anything, fucking dumb. Sad
Ok. Still a top find though. Anything useless or not that defies the game's laws is something I enjoy lol.

Ok a few things.

I found a new OOB in chapter 11. It's very easy but possible to mess up. It's actually one I tried before but if you miss the jump and land below you get an instant checkpoint which makes it a huge pain to test as it's at the end of the chapter.

After using the key card and climbing out of the doll factory, you have to climb down a ladder which will put you on top of a white van. See that fence right there? directly behind you as you get off the ladder. All you need to do is a running jump. And I recommend holding the direction and sprint button as you touch the fence. This will make you do another jump from the top of the fence but I'm not sure if you have to do that. I think if not you might just land then slip off the fence.

Ok, so now in front of you is a pile of rubble. Climb the left side because you can get stuck in the middle. The right side doesn't lead anywhere as I remember and might get you stuck too. For now take the left and at the top you can climb up. From here you can walk through some of those buildings, and you'll notice if you walk to the edge there will be some ground below. You can safely drop down to this.

I've been all around here and didn't find anything useful. Its all the area behind the doll factory. There's a body of water here you can swim in but can't climb back out of.

Again nothing useful here but still fun. One very interesting fact. If you didn't turn of the gas, firing a shot will still cause the factory to explode and kill you even though you're OOB. Seems the explosion trigger surrounds the whole building except for the front. I found this out because I always shoot to see which part of the ground is solid. Turn off the gas and you're fine.

The other chapter 12 OOB doesn't work for me at all. The rubble just isn't climbable. When I see the X1/PS4 versions, the graphics are totally different. More than just a better looking version of PS3, they actually look so different it's not the same textures and possibly different collision.

Is anyone else on PS3 here?

On Gamefaqs someone posted in my topic about instantly killing Laura. They said they dropped the floor just as she was about to come out of a body in there when you see the red mist. I've actually done this before but never got an instant kill from it. Could be another timing issue.

Beat my new game speedrun record today and got a 4:42:05 in game time (4:54:35 RTA)

Yap, went quite well - respect for that ! (even with 12 deaths - you got the speedrun trophy :P)

So there is a checkpoint behind it. I just can't get through it though. On either side by the cogs you can see behind it, but nothing is pushing me through like grenades or rockets.

Could it be possible to hit The Keeper before he pulls the switch?

I've tried Zero and couldn't get anything. I rocket launchered him dead on and rifled him and shit and nothing happens. There surely will be an OoB glitch past that wall and if so, bam, almost 15 minutes saved.
So far the OOBs have been in outside areas where there was always something to get over. Those ruins are all indoor areas right? Will be hard to find anything if at all. Did you notice any particular area in those ruins where an OOB could get started? I saw that you can float anywhere you want.
http://twitch.tv/Exisidis2
I've already almost found an OoB that ended up leading to a dead end, so I'm sure it's doable. The best part is almost everything's connected underground, so if you can OoB anywhere and not fall miles under the level, you could just work your away around OoB until past the wall with Keeper and then walk back in bounds. Obviously you want to get OoB sooner though rather than later to save the most time. The place where I got close was the starting area in the tomb, with the graves and vases all around before the 1st tablet, and there is a bomb trap and a dead body up in a casket. I got on part of wall at the start, followed it and got on a table, and then got trapped and stuck on the table. Sebastian was vibrating and I got some very weird shit and came SO close to getting on a stone casket propped RIGHT next to a wall which I'm sure if I could just get on it, I could fall behind it and pop through wall or something weird. Trust me, where there's a wall there's a way. An OoB past that wall to skip the last 2 tablets would be epic. Someday...

Bad news. I glitched past the main chapter 9 door and there is nothing (there is a little platform you can stand on but nothing else). The game checks that you actually complete all 3 brains it seems. Sad

I also just tried to glitch past that chapter 6 big fight and the floor where the sadist comes from isn't loaded either.

Edit: If you glitch past the chapter 9 door while being outside the whole corridor loads and you get the good checkpoint but then you fall as the game takes the floor away. However, when you press Load Game to reload the checkpoint it puts you back to the bad state where the door is open but no walkable collision at all. Basically a softlock until you complete all 3 brains.

Some better news though. The big Chapter 15 fight and the 2 Keepers fight can be completely skipped using the noclip and you continue as normal. Best thing to do for a skip now is to probably focus on abusing some clipping method.
