TIOLET!
Assuming I will be able to take time off from school for this epic journey, this is what I'd like to bring to the table.

Aliens vs. Predator 2: Easily the best AvP game for PC, and the close to optimal routes for each race will work in a live marathon run.
Doom 3: Big maybe on this one, if anything it will not be done on Nightmare difficulty. A lot of timesavers would have to be skipped no matter what difficulty, it's just too much luck and pixel-precise timing involved in a lot of them.
Quake 4: Definitely more feasible live than Doom 3 will ever be.

Edit: In case Doom 3 and Quake 4 don't look too appealing.
Serious Sam The First Encounter
Serious Sam The Second Encounter
'nuff said Tongue
Quote from PJ:
I can safely say that the chances of doing this under pressure are basically zero.

Wow, that's pretty convincing to have it if the run is done well, but it scares the hell out of me.  I won't do it.  MM10 easy mode, then? Roll Eyes
Quote from Sir VG:
NiDL would be fun too, but only really for a race.  I know MZ was a bit out of practice, but given all that she was doing for the last marathon, it was totally understandable.  Hopefully romscout won't chicken out. Tongue

You. Me. On the playground. After school.

Yeah, if NiDL is in, we're racing. Tongue
Another game I just remembered is Shadow of the Colossus.  It's been a few months since I played it, but I had some descent time attack times, and with a few weeks of practice, I could improve quite a bit.
Wiiaboo
I would love to see Shadow of the Colossus, it's easily my favorite PS2 game. Only problem is horse riding.. :/

Maybe just run through the time attack stages? w/ Extra weapons and such? That could be fun.

Quote from PJ:
Edit:  For what it's worth, Rockman is actually faster than Forte.  Forte is easier to run, though.

My mind completely blanked when I posted and I thought of the OLD rockman TAS vs. the new forte TAS. lol

Quote from Aftermath:
Molotov - You can remove Order of Ecclesia. NG+ is running really fast linearly through the game while one shotting everything and not worrying about damage, so wouldn't work out well.

This is basically what SotN NG+ amounts to but somehow it's survived the schedule every time so far. >_>

Quote from Breakdown:
Assassin's Creed 2

If it's in, it should definitely be on the unpatched version so that the flying glitch can be abused (more likely on console than PC). The run could actually be a LOT faster than the segmented run that was accepted with this, and I could help anyone who wants to pick it up/learn it with routes/strats and stuff, but someone who has more free time than me (or loves doing multi-hour runs) would need to be the one who practices this if it's gonna be in. :p

Quote from duckfist:

Just a fair warning: it WILL be as hard as he says if you ever try seriously running it. >_> Again, I think it's viable for someone like you to be prepped with it for the marathon if the only other thing you're running is MM10 since you already know that like the back of your hand and could put all your efforts towards R&F otherwise.

Also about co-op, talk to me on Skype/IRC/someone's random stream chat and we'll see if we can come up with something. :v
Sea of Green
Actually I just realized that I shouldn't be volunteering to run any games at all. With the amount of plushies & hats I will be making over the next six months, plus the fact that I'm planning my wedding, moving to a different country, and applying for a visa to live in that country within the next three months, I don't think I'll have time to practice runs of any games and have them be done competently. Sorry for the inconvenience, Molotov and Mike. Sad Take me off Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. (If someone else wants to do Zelda: The Minish Cap they're welcome to it.)
Intruding N313 and F014
I finally got around to reading the 100+ posts in this topic.

re: ActRaiser
Now that the TAS of the full game is complete, I am starting to work on speedrunning the simulations.  I would rather leave the actions to PJ since he is awesome at them. This means that to improve Sir VG's run, we would have to tag team, and that means this would have to occur at a marathon.

It is very unlikely that I will attend AGDQ 2012, so this applies more to a future marathon.

It's time for some HEErooooOOOOHi cs!
Games I can do:
Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden 2
Kirby Super Star co-op if Romscout comes
Pole's Big Adventure
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror co-op if everyone required comes

Bad game block:
Bubsy 3D

Games I'm willing to learn
Sonic Adventure *tossup between this and Shinobi PS2*
Shinobi PS2 *see above*
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Okay, another huge post from me.

Sinister1: Sounds good.

Mecharichter: I can't believe you suggested that asterix game. :| Jumping Flash 2 is a no. I love the game, but I don't think it would really go over all that well. Sorry no EWJHD, when Breakdown says it's done, it's done. I don't really know about having HCU in the first place, but I guess I would allow rising mode if it's done?

SMK: Psychonauts would be a great add. There's a speedrun here, and as impressive as it is, it's already outdated.

Naegleria: Okay, we'll do new game + if we let No More Heroes in, but

Tiki: Those all sound great, but I'll only let you in on SM64 if you can compete with other SM64 runners who are coming to the marathon (though it's unknown who is coming at this point).

ZenicReverie: What Breakdown said, Assassin's Creed II is the one good suggestion in that list (aside from Mass Effect, but Radix already proposed that). I would say Prototype is good too, but the combat in that game is pretty bad, and it might get repetitive after a while.

If the Bioshock runner doesn't think the game is a good choice, then it's probably best omitting Bioshock as a choice.

ZakkieDraggy: Glad you understand

PJ: LOL, the only problem is figuring out if you guys can actually beat the game. Also, ZSNES netplay is awful. Sad

Vorpaledge: Out of those, see which one you like the most and think would most like to speedrun, I don't want to force anything on you. I'm guessing that either GX or Ecco would be better because I hear some of the SotC tricks are very random to pull off. Also, if you run GX, you better learn how to snake (Captain Falcon can do it in Story mode too!).

KirkQ: I know both 64 Bomberman games have a cult following, but I'm still not convinced it's worth doing them. If one was done, then it would be 64 because that seems to be the more well-liked one, but I'd need some more opinions on this. In other words, no Bomberman Hero.

I'd probably let in Die Hard because it's a short and easy fit (despite being kinda boring IIRC), and Quest 64 has no chance, it would just drag on for too long.

Jape: sounds good.

Neskamikaze: I know Yoshi's Story has very mixed reception. It's short so it might be worth adding? I'm not sure.

I can easily give you Tony Hawk 2 again.

Don't really care much for Mario Land, but Duke Nukem is interesting. I'll have to think about that one.

Thanks for your input on Gauntlet Legends and Epic Yarn. I always figured Legends as one of those games you just play together with 3 friends and have fun.

Hurblat: I'm up for anything with you too. <3

Heidman: No X2? You're a beast at that game so I'm surprised you wouldn't offer it.

The form of Contra depends on who else is willing to run the game. I think a race or co-op is a great idea. So if you want to race whoever else offers to play, then I'm down for it.

Sorry, can't give you Mystical Ninja. Goemon games are bigger in Japan than America.

Kari: That's cool if you want to learn some puzzle games. Maybe you could do a versus match in Kirby's Avalance (Tetris Attack versus takes forever at high levels unless if you do score attack). I think you're talking about Silhouette Mirage as your game, and I know a lot of Treasure fans like it, but out of all of the Treasure games, that does seem to be a more overlooked one.

jprophet22: Zelda 1 is back in thanks to you. So far you have zero positive feedback about Metroid, and even if you do I'll veto it because it's too hard to top 10 hp boss kill.

Itsu de Mo: Hmmm, didn't even think about Oracle of Seasons. You'd have to get a GBA-player disc if you want me to consider it. Also, I agree with Romscout, having Oracle of Ages with Seasons as a donation war would be great.

Duckfist: Okay you're in for Mega Man 8. Wink About R&F, I know a run would be entertaining, but it's a really hard game to learn, and I don't know if it would be a good choice simply because it's so ridiculously unforgiving. I kinda agree with Rom about the cult classic status, though I'm not 100% sure about that.

Okay, I read with PJ and I agree with him. I think it's worth considering for a future marathon. Also, how is Rockman faster than Forte? Shocked

Axel Ryman: The only game I can give you out of that list is DMC3, and I'm going to have to veto DMD difficulty because the enemies have 4x the health of hard mode enemies, and almost all of the devil trigger instantly. It would be a much better idea if you stuck to hard mode. I know Megaman Legends has its fans, but I don't think it would be the best marathon run, not because it's difficult or anything, but because I can't think of anything that really sticks out.

Arrow: I think it's worth doing both Katamari games in a marathon, but that's just me, I would like a some more opinions on this. I love Dynamite Headdy, but I don't think it has much of a chance to be honest. Like I said earlier, maybe in a future marathon we can have a Treasure block.

Like Breakdown said, Little Nemo and Bubble Bobble are probably both worth doing. Also, girls really like Bubble Bobble, I guess they can't resist the cute dinos.. I know Frezy_man's girlfriend likes the game and she doesn't even play games. I know nothing about Rogue Leader, but I'm going to say no just because scheduling is already getting tight.

Molotov: You are a gentleman and a prince for making that spreadsheet.

Kibbo: We discussed this earlier, but I'm cool with AVP2 as long as if you take donations for which race is chosen.

If Doom 3 tricks are that hard to do then it's not worth doing I guess, though it probably would be good add if you can at least do some of the tricks. On the other hand, everyone seems to agree that Quake 4 is shit, so it's definitely not worth doing.

However, I'm down with nixing Doom 3 and just having some Serious Sam. Cheesy

SotC: If it's happening, then it's definitely the time attack modes. The only reason I say if is that both Breakdown and Vorpaledge proposed it last year then gave up on it.

KubelWagon: I know I said NiDL is a good idea in my first post, but I'm not as sure now. If a race happens, then it might be worth doing again.

Dunnius: Wat

J: I guess you're racing Sinister 1 in Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden 2 would be a great add. KSS co-op sounds cool as long as if it's done better than last year. I would be very shocked if that didn't happen. Tongue

Pole's Big Adventure was one of the two biggest stars of bonus streaming (the other being The Demon Rush, of course). Bubsy 3D sounds like it could be a bad game superstar, especially if we delve into some of the history behind it, and IIRC, the game bankrupted accolade.

Out of your two games you're willing to learn, learn PS2 Shinobi. Sonic Adventure has its specialists, and I'd rather see Shinobi anyway. Tongue
Not a walrus
If we have a Ninja block I can probably try to learn NG3, wouldn't add too much time to the schedule.
This world is all we have, cherish it
I wonder if we should run the up+a or warpless for zelda... feedback?  I am also going to practice ninja gaiden 1 since its here at sinister's house so I'd be up for a 3 man race of it.
It's time for some HEErooooOOOOHi cs!
Hmm, I like UA's idea, ninja themed block would be neat considering there was a beat em up/brawler block last year. In which case, I'd be okay learning PS2 Shinobi instead of Sonic Adventure.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
I'm down with NG3. It's not as well-liked as the first two, but it's known for being very hard, and it's not as maligned as X3.
Haters gonna hate
Quote from jprophet22:

I've always been anti-Up+A, so my preference is definitely without.
I could probably practice MGS3. I dunno what kind of an estimate I can give. As per usual, I can do MGS1.

I've dabbled around a little bit with Doom, but I'm not fantastic at it. I'd sooner expect Lag, ShadowWraith, or other PC speedrunners to do it, but I'll happily practice that one too. I'd try to shoot for under 40 minutes or so.

My usual roster is up though. Dunno if I wanna do Code Veronica this year or not (I've only finished the game like 3 times), but REmake is on the table.

If Ekudeht decides he wants to show up this year, I'd like to race him in RE1 any% with Jill.

You know my roster, and I'd rather ask what you want me to do this year.
TIOLET!
Mike, I'm perfectly fine going with Serious Sam instead of D3 and Q4. If for nothing else Serious Sam just makes a better single segment game with solid tricks and predictable AI, the same can't be said about Doom 3. I also think most viewers would complain about Doom 3 being dark or something Roll Eyes

Well Carc since you're lazy, if I miss a game then that's your fault, not mine. Tongue Out of what you can run, I'd like MGS3, MGS1 (ps version), REmake, Code Veronica (if you're up to it), I'd like to see Doom, but I think it needs to be on one of the higher difficulties for it to be worth it (not easy or the next one up).

Kibbo: That's cool. Is it worth doing both First and Second encounter though? I might be pressed for time and I don't know if I can fit both in.

I just realized that Touhou was asked for some last year (and Kain was named Reimu :-/), and I actually thought of two Touhou games that can be speedrun (well one's a spinoff):

MegaMari and Shoot the Bullet - Not super essential or anything, just an idea I had.

Vorpaledge, maybe Shoot the Bullet can be your new game to learn.

Only problem I have with Oracle of Ages is the stupid required mini-games. >< That and Dad and I haven't been able to find the Ages cart.

So, the only one I can guarantee practice on at the moment is Seasons.

Anyone have an extra GB Player disc? XD  Never mind, I just bought one.
Goatragon!
One more game I'd like to throw out that I might be able to run is Alien Soldier.  I don't know if this a good suggestion, but I wanted to put it out there to get thoughts on it.  It's definitely a nice fast-paced and exciting game and I'd be willing to see if I can get into running shape for it if no one else is interested in running it.  Although if I run it I would be most likely running it on Supereasy...
TIOLET!
It's hard to choose with Serious Sam as both of the games are good. Limited to one I'd pick The Second Encounter as it offers more variety for the viewers.
I'm just trying to impress you.
I skimmed the thread but I am interested in coming, here's my potential contributions:

Blast Corps - I know I've already done any and 100% and I'm really happy to have gotten both in previous marathons. So I understand if this would get cut. But I could practice a 1hand only any% and make it very presentable (nobody on SRL has beat my 1hand any% record yet Smiley )
System Shock 2 - I have this pretty well routed out but haven't actually run it yet. My route was heavily segmented as is required to FRAPS it, but I could pound out a great looking single segment route if it could get in the marathon.
Armored Core - Just picked this up earlier this week and it's surprisingly easy to run any%. I'm already under 50 minutes consistently. Definitely a cult classic game.
Quest 64 - My 3-hour offering to poverty gaming graveyard block. It's very infamous as a bad game and I'm guessing a lot of people would find catharsis in watching it get totally busted apart without saving. Plus KirkQ and I could race it :V
Kid Chameleon - I would be honored to race Withhelde.

Thinker & Dreamer
ξ・∀・) Well, since you bought up Touhou and I've played quite a many of its games back in the day, I can probably do Super Marisa World (another well know dojin game), or possibly repractice the main games and do one of them (like 9.5 - Shoot the Bullet, though the early Windows games (6/7/8) are more known).

As for other games, I feel sad that all the games I know are too niche according to Mike ( ´Д`)

Also, it's gonna be on, Peachy~

Oracle of Ages is the only Zelda game I've ever beaten. >_> I'd be willing to learn that or BK for a race against the Trek monster or Pepsiman for bad games block since its not that long (though the only interesting parts are the cutscenes so feel free to make fun of me for suggesting). I could probably learn SotC if no one else wants to. Maybe even Alex Kidd in Miracle World although nobody likes the Master System except Breakdown.

I'm coming no matter what> Even in the short period of time I was at the last one, I had a blast so nothing will hold me back esp. since I've been saving for it all year Wink
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Peaches:  I can give you System Shock 2 and Kid Chameleon in that list. I know Armored Core has a fairly dedicated cult following, but it wasn't exactly high in demand during the last agdq either. Quest 64 is pretty legendary as a bad game, but it's also quite the beast clocking in at 3 hours, and I'm not sure if those 3 hours will be too exciting.

If you stick around for bonus stream I can give you Blast-Corps 1-handed. Speaking of that, I need to figure out how to do the bonus stream this year.

Withhelde: Shoot the Bullet and MegaMari are the only Touhou games I'd consider, that's why I listed them.

dballin: As long as you wear the Frezy shirt, you're good. I'd suggest you just focus on one game if you're going to run something. Pepsiman is pretty funny, but I don't know if it's really worth doing. I can say that Alex Kidd in Miracle World is a definite no though.
