Reverse Death Valley Bomb
Quote from Edenal:
Maybe I should elaborate on our thought process.
We all agree that long RPGs have great potential, especially Final Fantasy titles being well known. Though we don't want to copy the *GDQ concept straight off. And our primary goal for ESA is not getting large amounts of donations, or necessarily only play the most popular games, it's to be an event where there european speedrunning community can come together and grow. Hence we've been hesitant to let very long games onto the schedule, to make room fore more games and more runners.

Having an RPG like Final Fantasy on the schedule isn't particularly about getting donations or viewers, it's about inviting an alternative audience to create a more diverse viewer/participant base. One member of that audience is me and I had hoped to be able to come to ESA to represent European RPG speedrunning, which I don't think disqualifies it from "being a part of an event where the european speedrunning community can come together and grow", nor do I think including this game is copying the 'GDQ concept because of this. This part irks me in particular but I do understand that if 7 hour FFXIII, one of my favorite games to speedrun, is replaced by 14x30 minute slots of other people's favorite games.
Make it so.
Quote from ThaRixer:
I'm confused about Octodad as well. But other than that, the decision were chosen pretty well. I also think that we should maybe have only 1 Pokémon game (2 With Pokémon Snap), both Sapphire and Leaf Green were suggested. But thats my opinion.

Quote from RedArremer:
I agree with ThaRixer, I think one (main) Pokemon game should suffice.

I (as the pokemon runner) actually completely and entirely agree with this. One is enough so maybe it could be a bidding war between them?

This is the plan.
I'd like to cut Metroid II: Return of Samus, Mega Man X2 & X3 from my run list because I won't have enough time and motivation to practice those games for the marathon.

Since Tiberius (amongs other) pointed out that 2 Pokémon games are too much. We're going ahead and posting simlar games which fall under the same category.

Bidding war:
Quote:
Pokémon Sapphire vs. Pokémon Leaf Green
- Like Tiberius said.

Battle Kid 1 vs. Battle Kid 2
-If Nils gets him cart and is up for it when the time comes. Otherwise we go with only Battle Kid 1)

Resonance of Fate vs. Tales of Xillia vs. Tales of Xillia 2 vs. (Possibly IdolMaster)
- We are still discussing this. But one of the games will make the schedule.

That's ok. Was looking forward to Metroid 2 though Smiley

As long as Mega Man 1 is still in, I'm happy Smiley

I sort of figured that most people would find Metroid 2 to be a boring and repetitive run in B&W. I could definitely get in shape and crank out a good live run if there's an interest for the game (seeing as it hasn't been done in a marathon yet afaik)

Perhaps it's not the most actionpacked game. But it's the great build-up for Super Metroid! Smiley
I'd LOVE to see Metroid 2! It's one of those Metroid games I never see played, although unlike those other ones, Metroid 2 doesn't really deserve it. :[

Looking pretty good! (my one mandatory nitpick is that Wery & me Wild Guns is a co-op run, not a race)

Is now the time for posting a few small things about what I think for the remaining cuts and such, or should I take that to IRC instead?

Also we are totally going to have the best Batman block.

We are not interested in any thoughts about cuts and adjustments which are not concering your own games in this thread.
Please refer to sending me a PM or contact me on Skype (fredrik.lidholt).
I'll redirect the message to the other organizers.

Alright, I wasn't going to say anything at all right now anyway. Might relay a few ideas later, once I have more of them. All in all I am really liking this selection of games and agree with the majority of the cuts. I'm definitely very happy about Pokémon Snap still being in!

What's the reasoning behind cutting Majora's Mask? I know it's long but ennopp and goronguy are both popular streamers and Majora's Mask hasn't been in many Marathons.

Speedrunner
Huh? Majoras Mask is not cut?

It lies under Races.
Precursor
I see where the confusion lies. The two hour Majora's Mask race is not cut, it's under Races. The six hour Majora's Mask 100% run is cut, and that's in the list of cuts.

We also have Zelda II in both 1P runs, races and cut games. This spreadsheet is not a paragon of making sense, but that has to do with how things were listed in it from the beginning with different suggested categories for the same game getting separate entries.
Speedrunner
That is true Kennyman. We had several categories to choose from. So many good suggestion, I need to say that. So the cuts have been hard to make.
WOW.
You're ok to cut An American Tail: Feivel Goes West if you want, I don't think I'll get around to owning a SNES yet, yet alone running this game.

The equipment wont be a problem. As long as you have the game and can practice it, or on emulator. It wont be a problem.

But PM Edenal just in case.

Edit: And by equipment i mean the console. The game itself you need to own.
Dark Souls all bosses vs any% is still a bit of a question mark. Like said, a lot of the runners are Finnish/Swedish and it's still unclear who's coming. Personally I think the coolest thing would be to get a big any% race showcasing various routes but I realize that's likely to be a nightmare in terms of fitting everything on screen.

Shame for Guardian of Light. Oh well, maybe someone who runs it still signs up and we can do it in bonus stream.

A small technical heads up. To limit setup issues we've decided to not have any races with more than 2 participants.
Having a race at 360/Ps3 is no problem at all. Racing high-end games on PC is another matter since we've not figured out the PC situation. (If the runners would provide thier own laptop/deskptop it's all good though)

It might be tough but if possible I could bring my desktop computer if needed for anything. It's got an i7 and gtx680 but is a bit weak on the RAM side of things but it runs most high-end games well.
I'd need to look up how to actually get it there but if needed it could potentially be fixed.

Sign me out for the GTAVC race. I refuse to race that game and I don't want to spoil the fun for Adam and Oasiz.

Edit: Also I found out I derped and messed up the Half-Life 2 estimate. It's 2:45:00 , not 2:00:00. You can punish me if you want.

Edit2: Ok, It wasn't me who derped, I did say it's a 2:50:00. HL2 is falsely listed in the document then.
Just thinking about it. You might want to change my Meat Boy time to 30mins rather than 25.

If everything goes wrong and including set up. 25 would be pushing it. 30mins would be more than enough time.
