Thanks for your effort on the translation, Lutepin. I've started using it while playing and it's been working well.

Very nice looking app, Wodanaz!

Is it possible to resize the wsplit window?  I downloaded the version posted at speedrunslive.com; and as you can see in the attachment, the window is too small to display my full segment names.

Attachment:
There's no resize right now, but I can look into adding it in the future.  It might be a little while since I'm in the midst of some larger changes and I don't get to work on it often (also, some extra trickery is needed to add proper resize control to a borderless window), so I apologize for the inconvenience.  I'll try to have it in the next update assuming no unforeseen snag, and I'll post here when that's done.

Lutepin, the latest version you posted fixed the problems I was having.

Wodanaz, Wsplit seemed cool to use, but I couldn't get it to run at all. Perhaps the later version you have fixed that. Where is the latest version?  I am currently out of town on my mobile, but when I get back in I'll explore the latest version some more

Edit: since you are working on an update to post here, I will wait for that

wsplit requires having .NET framework installed (probably 4.0, see link below). If you're on XP, you'll also want Calibri and Segoe UI fonts installed or it'll look bad (I'll hopefully get around to fallback font settings at some point). If installing .NET framework fixes it for you and you need a hand with the fonts send me a PM.

That was the first problem I had, but the latest framework (or anything above 4.0) would not install because I needed this and that, which I installed, but framework still did not install with no reason. It may be that the PC is old, and I use a Mac now primarily. so I may need to stick with the LapTool unless you have another idea.
I just compiled (and have attached to this post) a version targeting .NET framework 3.5. Please let me know if this works for you (hopefully you are able to install .NET framework 3.5).

I had the same problem with my Windows 2000 machine (.net won't install), so I wrote my own timer/split program.  I should upload it.
Sounds awesome. I'd like to check it out, dunnius. Timers for all!
yeah man, i wouldnt mind checking it out as well.

Here is my program.  Let me know if there should be any interface or naming changes.  Those are my weak points, so any suggestions are welcome.
Hey, Time Split Tracker is pretty nice. I like the multiple comparison ability, ease of use, and tiny file size. After trying it for a little, I have two things to say: 1) it would be great if it didn't need to be the active window. For consoles or other computers, it works fine as-is, but if somebody's timing a computer game or other software on the same machine, it's tough to click out of their program to TST and then press a key to make a split, etc.  2) bug: pressing backspace with an empty grid made constant error windows spam my desktop. That's all I can think of right now. Good work though, I wish I could whip up my own program like this.thumbsup

Wodanaz: unfortunately it still is not installing... thanks for the help though, I appreciate it!

Dunnius: your program is cool enough to run on my Mac!  I haven't toyed with it much, but seems pretty cool!  If you update it at any point, I'll be interested in it.

Here is a new version. (outdated; see later post)  I fixed the undo bug; nice catch Lutepin.  I also added 2 features.  I made the background color change to red when the timer is running so you can easily tell that it is running.  I also added difference numbers in the 'Current' column which show how much of an improvement (or loss) that split had.

I am not sure how to make the program receive keystrokes when inactive.  If someone knows how to do that in c++, that would be great.
@Wodanaz: Any way to resize wsplit would be greatly apreciated. You already said that its not easy because it is a borderless window, but perhaps if you had a dialog box in the options menu where you could just set the width/height in pixels would be awesome.
Waiting hurts my soul...

Never done it myself, but I'd say try a tutorial on keyloggers.

I've got it done for the next version, but it might be a while before it's ready since I'm working on some other stuff as well.

There's a Win32 API for global hotkeys that you can use (google RegisterHotKey). It gobbles up the keystroke though. Otherwise you'd probably need to use a low level keyboard hook instead.

I've released a new version of wsplit, significant changes/additions:

- horizontal resizing works* now
- new feature to protect against double-tapping the split key
- fallback timing method available in case the standard method is inaccurate on your system
- if you don't have Vista/7 fonts installed, 2k/XP fonts are used instead
- replaced the old basic "detailed view" window with something nicer (well, I think it is)

* the horizontal resizer doesn't work when hovering directly over certain display elements (most apparent in compact/wide modes, hardly noticeable in detailed)

download link: WSplit 1.2 (new version available, this version is no longer available)

As always, please contact me about any bugs or suggestions.

Looks awesome - can't wait to take it for a spin!

wsplit update:

- added: ability to adjust the number of segments shown in detailed mode by clicking the grey separator between the list and the clock and dragging up/down
- added by request: option to pad the segment list in detailed mode with blank space if your run has fewer segments than the configured number of segments to show
- fixed: the timer window would get stuck in resize mode if the window was placed on a screen left of the primary display in a multi-monitor setup
- fixed: horizontal resizing did not work when hovering over certain display elements (as noted previously)
- fixed: when changing comparison modes at the end of a run, the delta times were not being updated and the displayed finish time on the clock would be updated to the live timer

download link: WSplit 1.2.1 (new version available, this version is now available in the "Old" folder)

since the (now fixed) multi-monitor bug is the only problem that's been reported to me since uploading 1.2, I'm assuming everything else is smooth sailing and am no longer including 1.1.3.1 in the release package.
Nice. This is exactly what I wanted ^_^

Here is an update for Time Split Tracker (edit: outdated, see later post).  I decided to follow WSplit in making the double-tap time configurable.  Also, the leading zeros are a nuisance, so they are now trimmed like WSplit.
I added a new feature, notes for each split.  This is useful for figuring out why a time difference occurred.
Does anyone else that uses WSplit have a problem with the timer running slightly fast?  I started the timer at the same time as a regular stopwatch, and after about 10 minutes it's a clear second faster than the stopwatch.  After 11 hours or so it's a full minute faster.  I tried the fallback timing method, but that makes it run slower than the stopwatch.  It could just be my computer, but I'm not sure.  Any ideas on what may be causing this?

I'm interested in resolving this for you (if possible) but additional testing is probably necessary to figure out what's wrong. What kind of system is this running on? And can you elaborate on how much slower the fallback timer is running than your stopwatch? If your system has a very poor clock, the only way to achieve a good level of accuracy may be to use the fallback timer in conjunction with frequently resynchronizing the system clock with an official time source (Windows can do this but the synchronization frequency has to be changed manually, the default is only once a week).
