My cart just cam in the mail, came with a file that has over 27 hours on it. I dont think I am gunna delete it, just because it shows dedication.
Well I am gunna start some real game time now. I will start a serious thread once I feel I am making some very nice progress. Till then, I will be posting here
Alright. Updated the table with TGS's time and a new 100% of my own. Would've been lower, but I was on autopilot and went halfway to plasma along the any% route before realizing I was going the wrong way. >_>
Gotta get a lot better before the marathon. And maybe look up a 100% route that isn't from 2001...
Alright I'm doing a very casual and I mean very casual 100% run with tons of saves and I'm currently subbing Red Scarlet's time by 2 minutes at the Pre-Botwoon save point with Hotarubi's route. After this I plan on buying a capture card and destroying the record. My goal will be 47-46 minutes segmented but, I also plan on doing a Single Segment with the target time of 48. BTW I also I play on the wii now thanks to the Classic Controller Pro. Here is a link to my You-Tube Page for some tips and tricks to help you guys out. I have a video and explanation on how to Super Short Charge to help you guys. You can also find my video and explanation on metroid2002's main page as well. Also if you guys have and questions on how to get better you can PM me I'll gladly try to help you out.
VorpalEdge I watched you on Mike's ustream. Honestly you could shave seconds if you just plat grab. The amount of seconds you can save just off plat grabbing alone could turn in to 3 or 4 minutes honestly. Also you should check out my You-Tube Page and watch my Terminator - Waver Room Strategy and my After Wave Beam Jump Up videos. These will really help you out. Especially the first one I mentioned because like me you don't have Angle Down due to your button settings. Just so you know when you Angle Down on your D-Pad during a door transition it will not stop your momentum.
Here are my button settings for those who maybe curious.
L - Angle Up R - Run Y - Shoot B- Jump X - Item Switch A - Item Cancel
Yeah, I did. Messages you send don't save in the outbox by default; there's an option you have to click for that. I didn't reply to your pm because I haven't had a chance to test it out yet and I didn't want to say anything else before I did, in case I had further questions or whatnot. Thanks for the reply though, I appreciate it.
And, if we're going to be talking about it here anyways, I might as well post the content so everyone else can have a look at it.

Yea Plat Grabbing also known as landing earlier. By getting out of Samus' flip animation you can land earlier by using the Angle Up or Angle Down button or you can use the D-Pad even shooting will grab platforms earlier. Its something that seems so minor that can save little bits of time throughout the run.
I am new here but I've been speed running this game for about 4-5 months now (playing it since 94 though). My best single segment 100% time is 1:10. I've recently changed my route but now I need to learn all new strats. I really want to get sub 1:00, any help would be appreciated. I hope this thread is still being watched and updated.

Yep, I'm still around. Your time's in. The best 100% time currently is posted at hotarubi's youtube account; it's 0:50. There's also a collection of improved strategies for some rooms floating around on m2k2. Good luck.
I just played it again tonight using my normal route using all of the stuff I've learnt here and at m2k2, SS 100% 1:07, I spent ages trying to get the gauntlet wrap around to work but to no avail, so I just gave up and did it normally. I think that if I can better do the faster route (I follow Behemoth87's route, the spring ball entry with ice beam slows me down heaps) I could get sub 1hr. back to the grindstone.
As the founder of the Gauntlet Wrap Around let me give you some tips.
First off you must make sure your beam is fully charged. When you jump make sure you a little high and hold Angle Down as your about to land release your beam. Remember you can only do it with the Plasma/Wave or Plasma/Wave/Ice. Also make sure you scroll back to the door as well otherwise your beam won't hit.
Also VorpalEdge can you remove my name from the list? Only because this game is not casual to me anymore. I meant to ask that like 5-6 months ago, but I forgot.
Cheers for the info, I practiced what you had shown on the video for ages and now I get it about 70 - 80% of the time. It is one of my favorite tricks.
All I gotta do now is get the pre draygon shinespark! I've done it once but it only went half way across the room.
I'm getting heaps faster but i keep doing stupid shit and resetting. But I think my goal of under 100% sub 1:00 is so close.
I rarely miss the Pre-Draygon Shine Spark. Here is some tips to help you get it every time.
First develop a start, down and jump timing to get a good jump. You want to jump on Samus' first step. Next after you get a nice jump up you want to do one Wall Jump shoot the door and grab the plat with a Corner Hug. One Wall Jump + a Corner Hug is much faster then 2 Wall Jumps and a normal Plat Grab. You should be able to make it every single time provided you got a good Gravity Jump up.
If you don't know what a Corner Hug is let me explain.
Corner Hug - When against a wall you can grab the plat faster by hitting down on the D-Pad to lower Samus' hit box. Then when you get just enough height to clear the platform push forward to increase Samus' hit box. Thus grabbing the Platform earlier.
With a lot of missed speed tricks and all boss fights bad except for Ridley. I had Phantoon right where I wanted him for the wave sheild...... then forgot to hold down fire when I unpaused. doh!
Hi, I'm also new here, but I wanted to add my time to the list if that's cool. I got a 0:41 on any% single segment. I've recorded the run and you can watch on my ustream page: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/12744387. I managed to get another 0:41 later that night, I'm gonna keep attempting to see if I can get sub-0:40, then I'm gonna try for 100% runs.
BTW check out the highlight in the video, somehow after completely missing Phantoon with the PB-wave combo on the first cycle, I managed to hit him with all four particles on the second cycle, something I've never seen done before.. definitely dumb luck
Exactly when do you need to do to wave beam PB combo? In the videos, I see Vorpal doing it after a couple charged shots, but that could be conditional.
I can't speedrun this game for anything, but I did manage to do all the skips and early stuff that is in the speedrun. Got the early super missiles and skipped the grapple beam, finished the game. No time worth posting since every trick was new to me. I still don't know how to diagonal shinespark. Anyway, fun game.
To do a diagonal shinespark, just hold R or L before activating (or whatever button you have mapped to tilt your gun up).
Also my best 100% SS time is 1:10 with a silly route that involves grabbing a ton of E-tanks before Phantoon and i lost at least 1 minute in Tourian, so I know I can do at least a 1:09.
I fucking did it at long last. Even with an embarassing Phantoon 4 rounder, and a very dodgy Torizo. But I'm very happy with this. Maybe I'll go sub 1hr sooner than I thought.
Best console in-game times are :59 Any% (I wanna say 30-something... it was based on a TAS demo route that was more superplay than speedrun) and 2:13 100%, both segmented. I had a 1:12 no-slowdown 100% with save-room-save-states, because reloading on a console sucks and I'm spoiled... I only saved in save rooms, but I didn't know whether it counts or not.
