I actually got my first sub hour 100% yesterday:

This came out to a 0:58, which given how many large mistakes were made, I'd say 0:56 should be within easy reach, possibly even 0:55 if I skill up a bit.

I've posted this on M2K2 a while ago. So some of you may have seen this already but, since not everybody goes there I figured I'd post it here.

This is a new 2 Round on Phantoon I developed. Hes very easy to manipulate this way so all the Power Wave Particles hit. Afterwords you hit him with one Charged Spazer/Wave + 3 Missiles and 1 Super Missile. For the last Missile to Super Missile you must walk forward and shoot the Missile then immediately shoot the Super Missile so he doesn't disappear. Its much easier and its actually faster then the normal way. It can be done much faster then whats shown, but this is just a demonstration video. Also you can visit my You-Tube Channel for other helpful videos. Hope you guys enjoy!!!

Yeah, these strats are pretty cool and the wave combo is indeed a bit easier to time. For me, the real reason I'm sticking with the old way is because of that last missile/super combo. For whatever reason, I can't seem to get to my supers quick enough due to having my item select on my X button. I guess I could swap it back to select, but I really don't like the idea of fighting all the muscle memory and I'm not entirely sure it's worth it in the end.

I have my switch as X. You could just change your hand position. Also don't hold run when you do it.
Not holding the run button?!? Preposterous!

...I definitely need to try this method out, because I really need to get my Phantoon more consistent.

LOL. Its so you don't run into him. Also walking forward on him forces the Doppler Effect so he doesn't disappear after the last Missile. If you hold run while pushing forward you have to stutter step perfectly.

That's why I developed this method. Not only does this help Behemoth, my brother and myself but, also the casual Speed Runners. Give it a try and please tell me your results after.

Also here is the Fastest Kraid Quick Kill. I also find it much easier to do as well. I explain it in the video description. Here is a tip though where you stand is key. Use my video for reference on where to stand, but people have different TV's and such so the visual may change. You guys will have to experiment for yourselves to find the correct spot. Also another tip if you think your standing in the correct spot have multiple visuals for it such as crouching and morphing in the spot your standing.

Just so you know if your playing on PAL the spot is slightly different then NTSC. Instead of standing so her body is directly in the middle you want to have her back foot in the middle instead.

Here's an .smv of it. Also this was done on the Snes9x 1.43 v17.
Since I've been lazy, I haven't bothered to learn those new kills, however, I did get my time down to a 0:57!

This is a much more consistent route, since I only really do 100% runs in races anymore. I've had the idea to swap when I get grapple and ice in the back of my mind for a while now, but I never had the courage to try it until a few days ago. I did, and I got a new PB (albeit, still a :58!) Then a couple more runs with it, and I break into :57!

Now, I wouldn't submit to SDA using this route, but it's much more consistent for racing, you don't have to deal with the springball glitch getting in your face and ruining your run. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good racing/casual route.
I didn't want to double post, but I hit an important milestone on Christmas morning (much earlier than I expected after the :57...) I hit :55!

Surely those who've appreciated Super Metroid speedrunning since 2004 will appreciate the importance of this milestone. Of course, there exists a SS :50 out there, so that's my next target. However, I've always thought that a :52 would make for a submittable SDA run, I suppose it would mostly depend on how I feel about the run, personally. Yes, I know there are people who can do better than :50 SS, but I've yet to see a console run that actually does it, and I feel like 100% SS is a hole that needs to be filled on the SDA page.
Make it so.

Great job Dessyreqt! This is an incredible watch, keep up the amazing work!
Question, when youre doin a short charge how do you get a good stutter step? I got a few on the gaunlet entrance thing, but now I cant get em.
I don't stutter step my short charges because there really only one place that requires a stutter, and that's if you're trying to get the Maridia mainstreet missile by charging from the bottom. I just do a four tap. This is a question that seems to come up a lot, but there is a wiki project planned which should have all of this information soon!
Yeah I guess I just needed a little more practice. Im getting them a little more consistent, but still far from perfect.
Times are still being added to the list for this, right...?

Anyway, got some times to contribute. This week is the first time I've ever really tried speed running this game. Seeing hint videos here and there as well as speed run races on youtube added some inspiration.

Any% SS: 0:58 (37%)
100% SS: 1:19

Also I found another way to Super Short Charge. It might be easier for some people. I found it really interesting honestly.

Explanation: Hold run and Tap forward let go of run and let go of forward a couple frames after. Then hold forward and each time Samus pulls her arm back tap run up to three times.

Also this was done on the Snes9xv1.53.

Got my time down from 1:12 to 1:06 today in a 100% SS run. First time running it in the past week. Still working on that sub 1:00 though.
Any% SS: 0:54

I doubt I'll ever get really good at this game, but its fun to run it anyways.
I wasn't sure if anyone here would be interested, but we're planning on having a Super Metroid racing event on SpeedRunsLive this weekend and I thought I would extend the invitation here as well. We're going to be having two any% races at 11pm EST on both Friday and Saturday of this week. I'm sure a lot of people around here are familiar with SpeedRunsLive and how it works, but just in-case: http://speedrunslive.com/faq/. I've invited some of the Japanese runners to play as well and I'd like to get a lot of different skill levels racing with us. For now, since I've invited the Japanese runners, I wanted to go with something simple, so I went with any%. Feel free to join us!
Hey guys, just got my NTSC copy of super metroid today, and i've been thinking about casually speed running super metroid, i'm just wondering though, having never played the game before, what control scheme i should use to finish it the first time and the practise speed running if i want to be able to execute all the fastest tricks and maybe one day set a record?

I personally use the default controls, with X to shoot. Then again, I play the game on the Wii virtual console with a Gamecube controller, so the control scheme may be different from yours.
The two most popular control schemes seem to either be default controls, or Mega Man X style controls (y shoot, b jump, a run, x item select, select item cancel.) Personally, I use the latter, but both are completely viable.
Ok, I think I'll go for the Mega Man Style, i've been playing a lot of that so it'll probably be easier for me haha.

Here are my button settings. I find it simplifies then game a bit because this is a game where you have to hold run a lot.

L - Angle Up
R - Run
Y - Shoot
B - Jump
X - Item Switch
A - Item Cancel
