I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
No, I am not Smokey.  Grin

At the time that I completed my :36 ss, Smokey dominated with a :36 segmented, and a :38 ss.  I was hoping to get a run posted on sda, but unbeknownst to me, hotarubi's :32 ss was already in the queue.  I had actually been trying to get a :35 segmented, but after getting frustrated I began doing single-segment runs.  Believe it or not, single-segment runs can be far less stressful than segmented runs, at least for me.  I was tired of pressing record, stopping after every mistake (in the quest for perfect segments), debating whether segments were good enough to keep, etc.  The ss runs were really just for fun, but then I got a :37, and it didn't take much more work to reach :36.  I still enjoy watching the occasional run, but I don't have the time or energy to devote to speedrunning anymore.

Silver Hawk!
Technically, you can't do a normal run without taking damage.  Both Super Metroid and Mother Brain are scripted to damage you.  The Metroid might be able to be outrun, but unless you go glitch-heavy I don't think you can do anything about Mother Brain.

I was taking that into account, and I am classifying them as interactive cut-scenes. Much like how HighSpeedHalo.com views boss battles in pacifist runs.
Shaved off a minute, 0:48 with 30% now  Grin
Got a waaaays to go!
welcome to the machine
Updated!  gogo jake

Oh I should probably post my best time for comparison.

100% NTSC: 2:55.
welcome to the machine
Updated with JaggerG's 100% time (how did I miss it last time this topic was active?) and my new any% time.
we have lift off

and my new any% time.

Didn't you do it in 0:42? You got 30$ as it was 3 minutes under 0:45 right? How pedantic am I  Sad

I guess that was a practise run, nevermind...
I want off the ride....
I'm going to take up Vorpal on his 30 minute Mock ball guarantee next time SDA meets; or is he willing to try this through a stream?

0:36 - groobo - 25% (ss)

Done on an emulator, but still.
Hail Discordia!
That was a pleasant surprise from you, groobo. Smiley

I'm just getting started :P. Although a few days ago I still despised this game, now that I actually played and tried speedrunning it - it's super fun and far more complex than I thought.
welcome to the machine
Are you saying you got 0:36 with just a few days' work? >_>
boss
I guess. I'm basically following hotarubi's route (doing everything significantly slower than him, though). Most of the strats are easier than they seem to be, with a few exceptions.
Hail Discordia!
In that case I suggest using this test run as your reference — its route and trick use is up-to-date, and everything shown is realistically doable. It was made by m2k2 forum member Reeve using savestates and no slowdown to prove that 0:28:xx was theoretically possible to achieve in realtime play (this run clocks in at 0:28:30).
Jumping Turtle
Sounds like maybe hotarubi can put together a :30 after all then, huh? :^P

I've done 100% single-segment in 1:47 (Edit: That's NTSC). I love this game. I don't think I'd ever take the time to do a serious speedrun of it, though.
boss
Dunno if segmented runs count, but I did one in 0:34 (6 segments), again with 25%.
My name is 4N6/Forensics.
My best 100% run was 1:12. I went Hotarubi's route. This is my 7th time going through the entire game. I love this game so much because of speeddemos and its because of the current record holders that I bought a Super Nintendo just to play this game. My goal right now is 1:10 but, I think with a few more months of practice I could get 1:05.

1 month necro here...
0:48 for 34% for NTSCJ

Using my own route... should probably investigate other routes as I think this one is pretty much at its limit until I start practising boss killing (particularly for phantoon and draygon, for whom I can probably shave 4 and 2 minutes off respectively).

Hey guys.  This is my first post at SDA, and I wanted to make it worthwhile!

[tt]Single Segment NTSC :41 27%[/tt]

I'd like to publicly thank VorpalEdge for lots of help on another forum, and mention that this was done on a console, with all practice also done on console.  I'm going to keep playing this, because I know that I can beat this time.
Willing to teach you the impossible
First, congrats on your time. That game is not an easy one.

Second, welcome to SDA.

Third, I will be running this game myself soon as well. Keep pushing it. The more you practice/play through, you will naturally get faster.
Thanks for the encouragement Heidman!  I've been lurking here for a long, long time, and have loved this site, and the endless entertainment that it provides, for years.  It's nice to finally have a small reason to join the community, and do more to absorb the delicious information that is spread all over the forums and videos.

I hope you do start running Super Metroid!  I began speedrunning with A Link to the Past, essentially because I wanted to record a single segment no death clear, which evolved over time into speedruns.  My Super Metroid obsession began when my brother accomplished a sub hour clear, he is VERY good a video games, and we have always had a friendly competitions on games that we both enjoy; I knew that that Super Metroid had to be one of them.

A little more on topic - I watched my run again (to show off to a friend) and noticed that I actually finished with a 27%, and I have edited my initial post to reflect this.  It really should have 26% but I made a mistake in lower Norfair which necessitated an extra power bomb pickup (the one right before Ridley).  Thank god that that pickup was there, and I remembered about its existence.
Willing to teach you the impossible
Off topic: I found this sight through You tube a LONG time ago (I think back in 2002-03). I was really into Morrowind, and found some fun vids. Then I saw the vid that beat it in like 13 min i think it was. My jaw hit the floor. So I started to poke around. I first started to watch all the games I know really well. I would always be downloading them and be like, "Im sure I can do it faster that what ever this is gunna be." Yes I am still a bit egotistical. But I am much more humble now. Any-who, I watched most of them and I was speechless, and ashamed of myself. I finally came across a vid I saw and while watching it, I was a bit angered... Throughout the hole vid, I was saying to myself, "I can do better than this..." And so I went about learning the processes here. Got all the equipment needed (system, carts, capture cards, ext). then joined the forum. Spent over 4 months or practice and work to finish a < 15 minute game. I actually could not believe that speed running too so much work... But I really do enjoy it. Btw, I can still watch MMX2 and be amazed.

On topic: Would you mind sending me your run? I am a sponge for new stuff. I like to watch other ppl because every one plays differently, and there might be something in there that could help me out, never know.

Also, I really need to get the names of the areas right, I still go by color.  Undecided
It's only on a videocasseste, and I don't have the ability to capture at this point.  If you want I can record you a run and send it to you, but I do want to make some improvements first.
