lol, you don't understand stanski, do you? He hates everything and would be saying the same thing for every week no matter what game it is, even if I pick DDP (which I won't). That's a personality thing, same with sidwell.
PS - stanski hates everyone too.
If you'd picked Giga Wing I wouldn't be complaining.
Mike, you missed the part where we decided on IRC to change to Special Course instead (which I should have picked in the first place, I underestimated SDA heh) but neglected to say in this thread. I think there's no big scoring exploit in Special Course, but I don't want to switch and then you prove me wrong (that would be lulz), so try it out. Maur thinks this one huge room with a bunch of bumpers might be a problem, but I disagree. You need bumper + confined space.
So for anyone reading, we will probably end up using Special Course instead, but it's not official for now. Don't feel bad, you have 6 more days, and Expert is good practice.
If I only I didn't suck so bad at the end of stage 5. . .
The "windmill" thing? I've gotten the best results by picking up enough speed to pass through the red field on the top (has arrows on it?) and immediately rotating the goal into the ball. If anybody's got a good way to deal with the windmill after getting stuck in it, I'd like to know too.

That is a big change you should put in bold, like I did right now. And yeah, that sounds like a good idea, because getting good results in expert stage 6 is incredibly frustrating.
I'll try out the big room with bumpers (wherever it is), but I think you're right. That scoring exploit only works so well because it's two bumpers in such a confined space, which lets you get a x5 multiplier very quickly.

If you're going the long way, just rotate the other direction so you slow down and stop before it loops around. There's even a little peg there that will catch you before you loop.
Ok, I'm editing the week 1 post, but we're playing Special Course now. Also, specify which character you are using, like:
9,999 - Radix - Stage 5 - Mist Bay (which is the default blue ball)
Hoho free Expert Course table! BTW if you want to submit Expert Course scores still (or even Training or Beginner), you can do that, just specify. I will assume Special if you don't say anything.
Would like to edit to make people know how to select the secret characters. Just hold start (1) when you select the course.
I got this while looking up what the names for Training and Beginner were, heh.
238,900 - Enhasa - Stage 10 - Mist Bay
First try, I was pretty pleased. Stage 10 is a beating though. I had a ton of time going in and got stuck. I have a strategy for the very end though, I need to try it more.
This stage is mean. It's not expert stage 3's tunnel though, so hey.

I'll have to remember that next time I play the expert course. ..assuming I play the expert course again.
Black Steel takes some getting used to but it is SO worth it. Also, Mike is shooting for 400k, FYI, so he can beat the shmups.com best scores which were around 395k he says.
BTW, does anyone have a strategy for that sawtooth part on stage 6? I always feel like I'm going so slow in that section.
226,890 - Cromarty - Stage 9 - Black Steel 250,660 - Cromarty - Stage 10 - Mist Bay 250,710 - Cromarty - Stage 10 - Mist Bay
The stage 9->10 combo is too much for me. Bring a ton of time into stage 9 only to lose it and not even make it to the end in 10 because of the arrows.. argh.
This mode is much more fun, but the randomness of the question mark boxes is still frustrating (getting a couple of time stops early on just makes your score rape). Also, using the tilt selectively can be a big help in getting the fastest times. btw for anyone wondering, i just went for pure speed and for time boxes (almost every one, at least the ones that are easy to get for sure), and didn't go for bumpers or 1,000 boxes at all. I'm not exactly sure what my limit is, but i didn't spend all that much time to get this score.
504,380 - stanski - ALL - Black Steel
edit: fucking shit, I want sub 6!
edit 2: 509,700 - stanski - ALL - Black Steel
I might be able to push this further time wise (in fact, I know its possible with some lucky breaks that I didn't get here), but I think this is the best score I'm going to be able to put up. Good luck to everyone else!
edit 3: just wanted to mention that these 2 runs were consecutive efforts as well. I was restarting before if i didn't get a time stop in stage 1 or if i fucked up majorly some place else, but i just kept going this run even with a major fuck up in stage 6.
edit 4 before i forget, there is 1 key to scoring in this game: just get to stage 9 with a lot of time and rape it. Practice stage 9 and 10 over and over again until you have a great route, as this is where 60% of my points come from.
