My feelings on The Demon Rush
BoltR: Try reading the text when you pick up the first one Tongue

Also, almost forgot, every character in this game has a variety of special moves. Here are a couple that you usually start off with (and therefore aren't necessarily listed in the buy screen).

forward+attack - Usually a move with long reach of some sort.

down, up+attack - Every character except for Alien Green has this kind of attack, but Pink Ostrich's is really bad until she upgrades it (then it becomes really good).

hold attack, then release -  To be honest, this move isn't too useful for most characters.

qcf+attack - Actually, Captain Silver is the only charcter who starts off with this move, but I included just so you're not confused when you sometimes perform a flying attack Tongue

Like most Capcom beat 'em ups, you can hold down (maybe up too, haven't tried) while performing your combo to throw at the end. This is good for grouping, which is important in beat 'em ups.

BTW, if Barbara (the stage 3 boss) is proving to be a major hurdle for people (probably will because she's one of the toughest bosses in the game), I'll write up a little strategy guide on Wednesday or Thursday.

P.S. I know this has been mentioned 100 times by now, but I really hate the new animated smileys. I would frowny face, but that wouldn't help.

I have no solution, but i admire the problem.

Alien Green is a health-monster! and his hold-attack becomes really powerful when upgraded.
but barbara really is hard.. hit+run works best right now.

Btw, there are only 2 buttons, right?

I had full health (no extensions though) and one extra life (but no BDL icons on my current life) and Barbara still nearly put an end to the playthrough.  It's less her and more the 'random' bikers.

Tip for anyone wanting to play Alien Green: In the early stages, when you grab an enemy, repeatedly wiggle back and forth while hitting attack.  You will rack up coins quickly (while Alien Green doesn't have good buyables, working towards the healing improvement, BDLs, or the life bar extension still wouldn't be too bad of an idea).  I don't know if it's worth it in later stages, because Alien Green probably has more damaging tech than that, but it still is pretty good at keeping other enemies away (and it probably saved my ass against Barbara on that merit alone).

Grabbing in general is Alien Green's main tech - and as a side note, any character who can do proper grab moves on a vehicle bigger than they are, like Black Elephant (which I admit is probably only BARELY bigger than Alien Green), earns serious points in my book.

Decided to try another character and man did it make a difference.  I'm willing to bet Yellow Iris would be pretty kickass if I could get here to level 4 (her upgraded uppercut is really good, and the upgraded whip move rakes in the cash), but considering I couldn't get her past the Saturn encounter in 3 and I'm routinely getting to Barbara with this guy, I think I'm done with her.

Probably play some more later, I expect to crack a million soon.

624100 yellow iris stage 3 (stupid johnny i dont get him. sometimes i can beat him without losing a life, taking a few hits, other times he mops the floor with me. it must be those missed down ups. I failed at barbara here with her @ pixels)

I actually find the stage 6 boss zipang to be easier than that damn gorilla boss in stage 5, but stage 7 so far has been raping me. I am really cheap for most of the game, but a few bosses do make me change it up, however my thumb is still very sore from mashing the back and forth throw :-(.

In this run, I actually reached enough for a 2nd extend (in addition to health upgrade and the healing upgrade), however it didn't matter as those fucking ladies at the beginning of stage 7 just annihilated me.

Anyhow, I'm going to bed after playing for about 8 hours straight and having class in 6 hours.

BTW, for anyone looking for easy strategy, just wait for enemies to attack, use alien green, grab and mash back and forth. I think it gives you more points (though I really don't know for sure), and works for a surprisingly lot of enemies in the game.

Got past the stage 4 boss by the skin of my teeth, and almost got by the miniboss in 5 by the same margin, though I'm pretty sure if I get to him again I'll beat him handily.

I've never really tried to play a beat em up with skill (as my first post this week probably indicated well enough).  It took a bit, but I'm definitely starting to get the hang of this.

To all the Cyber Blue players, if you're not doing so already, abuse that upgraded uppercut, especially when you're up against one opponent or a bunch in a tight group.  It is far and away his best move, though can get you in trouble when there's a bunch of enemies spread across the screen.  For crowd control, the dashing flip kick is pretty good as is the basic throw, and his foward+A straight punch is his best money maker (weak basic enemies will usually drop silver coins).  Save the Power Up for bosses (easy S and A ranks = more points) or minibosses that give you trouble (I've been using one on B.O.B. in 4, have a hell of a time beating him deathless without it).

998,000 - AquaTiger - Stage 4 - Alien Green

I went into the Barbara fight with a full set of BDLs and having already bought the Healing Power upgrade (having collected 336 coins by the end of the second stage is a decent count, right?).  I finished the fight without dying and still having two BDLs.

So for Alien Green, Barbara isn't what I'd call a 'hard' boss.  Only a situation without a lot of grab-ables (like the stage 4 boss fight) presents problems.  I only really lost on that fight because I began it too recklessly (thinking I was able to grab him).

Quick question for Alien Green players - should I get the life meter extension after Stage 3 (when I'm certain to be able to afford it) or is there something else I should be buying?

I probably won't touch this game again until Friday for various reasons, but rest assured I'll return to it.  I actually enjoy this game (being able to throw most enemies around like rag dolls as Alien Green helps).

Probably should have bought an extend.

I don't buy anything but health upgrades, healing upgrades, and extends.
Same here, I tried using all upgrades judiciously, but I always end up spamming the back and forth throw

Edit : If you're having a hard time defeating Octopus Mark 2 (ahem, Alien Green), use your grabs. To be precise, throw these annoying R.O.B. ver3.0 at it, each hit takes half of his health bar off.

Aquatiger: Yes, you want to survive for as long as possible, because scoring is mostly based on survival (at least at our level).

1,771,500 - Breakdown - Stage 5 - Cyber Blue

This run actually featured a death against Johnny (which is rare for me at this point), and I'm very curious how far I'd have gotten without it.  I almost reset, but I'm glad I didn't.  Got favorable attack pattern on the fourth boss (was able to rip into him with the Power Up on and he didn't really do anything to stop me) and got killed by the 5th stage miniboss again after I killed him deathless on a couple of credit feeder runs easily.  Needless to say, I'm having some problems with consistency.

And for those that don't know, you can actually blow up Saturn's ship in the chase in level 3 (he'll skid off the road instead of running away).  It takes a lot of shots and you kind of have to ignore a good chunk of the coins, but it's worth a bunch of points (20 or 30k).

FYI, this works with everyone, except Captain Silver has a difficult time actually hitting the boss this way since his throw launches the enemies really high.
Yeah, I was just stating that this tactic is especially useful for Alien Green since he's nothing without his grabs, and as you know it, Octopus Mark 2 can't be grabbed

1,574,300 - Enhasa - Stage 5 - Pink Ostrich

I buy the upgraded uppercut for 100 after the first stage, then health upgrade for 400, then stick to extends for 1000. The flying throw is actually really good but I'm too cheap to bother with it. I mostly abuse the flying scratch move, it does decent damage and knocks out a bunch of coins, and Pink is invulnerable to most attacks while in the air. The upgraded uppercut is a really good complement to scratching, along with the desperation which is great. I actually need to try to be more aggressive against bosses (mainly use the desperation to counter attacks that I would normally have to wait out for scratching) to get better bonuses.

I just noticed that along with Carpet in Batrider (and Black Steel in Cameltry, although that doesn't really count), again I picked the character that plays the most differently from the rest. I realized this is true for a lot of games actually, and I'm not really sure if there's anything to this, i.e. if it says anything about me, or just about game balance.
