I started playing the game again, just to see the secret spells like juggernaut and the secret boss lapis.
Using cheats and knowing all routes, I made it 14:23:52.
I don't even know it it's possible to make it sub 30, because:
-too much conversation -need some time to level up
Thats all.
Ye of little faith. This will be difficult, but it is possible. If we can work on a RPG 4 discs long, I think we'll be able to manage a RPG 1 disc long.
Dragondarch, Wheels: Someone could give it a try, but it's really not possible, unless you find new routes, to skip something. If someone decide to run it, I can help.
I spent some time trying to get the secret spells, made some mistakes. But as I said, I was on cheats. Maybe I could make it 10 hour, since I was not really speed running it.
Statistics of my game:
No. of battles: 390 No. of scapes: 0
Maximum hit: Vahn: 23 Noa: 18 Gala: 15
Maximum damage: Vahn: 30301 Noa: 22219 Gala: 22152
Gorash: "There exists one guide at GFaqs that recommends lv30-35 at the final boss, as opposed to lv45 (recommended by all other guides, and what was about the level I had there)."
As you can see, it's quite an easy battle at levels 40, 39 and 40 for Vahn, Noa and Gala.
So lvl 35 would be possible, lvl 30 would be very difficult, not to say impossible, because of doomsday.
The only way you can manage beating cort at lvl 35 or lower is: -having the best equipment -having a lot of phoenix, because you are possibly dying after each atack -spiriting before final crisis and doomsday -your pointcard must be +10k, since his hp is 60k, it would help a lot
Besides that, this battle would take some time, maybe levelling up is faster than trying to beat him at low levels.
It's been a long time since I've seen this. I don't remember just how many sidequests there were. I don't own the game, so I can't run this. Maybe sub 7 is impossible, but I'm confident there's a shot it can be obtained in under 15.
Ok, maybe I was wrong when I said that it's impossible to make it sub 20, but someone has to find some new tricks that are not on the faqs, to avoid dialogues and so on.
But I can't say what's the real average time for a fair speed run, without cheats.
wow...2006 was the last update on this XD, Honestly though I'm half considering trying a run on this. I'll start checking out any info that I can because I do think sub 10 is possible *After watching that FFX run I know it's going to take a TON of planning and xx amount of segments for luck and other things, but it's entirely possible :9
I would love to see a speed run of this game. Like FFX, it has lots of unskippable, lengthy scenes and an emphasis on levels...but I think if someone could pull FFX off, why not Legend of Legaia? I think if you play your equipment and skills right, it's possible to run. Honestly, I think the most difficult part would be learning how to deal with short low-level combo gauges...Noa ftw?
whomever can beat this within SDA standards deserves a freaking medal. I remember this game taking hundreds of hours fishing for that one thing. i dont remember what it was anymore but all i remember was i did lots and lots of fishing. i also remember when i bought this game. the dude thought it was 2 discs and gave me both copies of the game! it was fun times for me and my cousin

HA! Awesome!!
It's been about 7 years since I last played the original Legaia, but I can remember it being really long of an RPG. Good Luck getting it under 10 hours, you'll need it!

Noa ftw indeed :), of course I'm tinkering with the best spirit/max dmg combos that I can find. That's proving to be the WORST part thus far DX. And yes the dialogue is TERRIBLY SLOW DX. It drives me nuts tbh. There is one spell that I have to FORSURE pick up as quickly as I can. it was that damned dog *name escapes me* that shot out that spike from it's mouth. Yeah it cost a TON to cast *I think like...48 or 96 a shot* but when you're dealing over 2k of dmg a hit around lvl I think it was...15 or 16. it adds up Plus lvling it up adds more dmg I believe *could be wrong it's been a while like I said XD*
@MetaSigma: How about doing a quick test run? That way we have an idea of an upper time limit other than long. Obviously it won't be optimized, so don't worry about that too much. It's a good way of getting to know some of the tricks and strategies though.
Sounds good, there's going to be a problem of course, I have nothing that's going to allow me to transfer the data from my TV to my laptop *No capturing software or anything* So I'd have to long type EVERYTHING that I do, but what I'll do then is I'll just go through a section and write the key points down and then make the segment *that I've done typed longhand XD* Test runs on the first segment *From the opening to where you can leave Elm Rim* was at best 13 mins, now a LOT of that is speaking and bad movement. I'm still testing to see how many of the things you can skip to get the Juggernaut to attack right away. *Thus far that's the first of a few segments I've run, atm I've been away on business thus the long delay XD*
Glad to see someone pay homage to one of the greatest PSX RPG's out there! I'd be happy to help with advice and route planning whenever needed.
And just some quick advice right off the bat, if you can try to snag a PSX emulator (ePSXe) and run it off of your computer and capture it from there to upload. If you need some decent free capturing software try CamStudio, it's what I just grabbed a few days ago and while its not perfect by a long shot its great for just some trial footage to be looked at and analyzed.
I got the emulator so that is a go for sure, right now the biggest thing is just setting aside enough time to practice a segment and make it atleast DECENT :x. The capturing software I'll take a look into here in the next day or so and hopefully have a few segments up within a couple weeks *This is going to be a long project for me since the warmer weather has made work run longer and then after work I run my business XD so less time on the game* but I'll work on a few segments and it'll trickle out after that slowly but surely :9, but yeah any advice you have I'll gladly take and whatnot ^^
Alright well I'm starting up a trial run just to go through and map out an estimated plan of attack to use either later or for someone else who wants it.
As of now I just beat Caruban, immediately saved on Mt. Rikuroa and am at 1hr 6min with Vahn at 5 and Noa at 6. Seeing as how I'm already at an hour and havent even made it to Biron yet I'm going to assume that this run will be in the 10+ hour range, three more than the soft limit for runs on this site.
However I can see cutting down about ten or so minutes from this time by cracking down on random encounters and doing the intro a little faster. Nevertheless we are looking at about 45-50 minutes to finish the first 5% of the game.
I'm definitely going to keep going to see just how long this run will take but assuming no huge game breaking ideas come out this will be an unaccepted game.
I don't know if any of the higher ups out there know of this game and could throw out a guideline time for this game, I mean I know the 7 hour time is there but if this game gets an extension for the limit I might try an actual run of the game. But as of now I am 99% positive that sub-7 is impossible for this game.
I'd love to hear an actual time for a test run, as many people have (probably rightly) only said that it's too long without anyone actually checking how long it would take.
