Make that 'casual moderator who could verify the run'! Bravo. It's not 2:02 or something dumb like 1:59, but it sure smashes the last run. (So much for 'death abuse')
Thanks.

Here are the segment save times. I will probably add estimated seconds when I watch all videos again to write my comments. For now the length of some hunting segments is a little distorted (segment 10 was much faster than segment 09).

Thanks for the segment info.  So you went for 2 hp mat instead of going to level 16?  Very nice.

Now the questions I have to ask are:
Do you think it's possible to get sub 2 hrs.?
And when can we see an EP.1 AND 2 run Grin

... with no deaths and no leveling in 2:03.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean by "no leveling" ? Obviously you leveled-up your char. but I can't figure out what you mean by this (its gotta be really obvious..).

If I did help you - you are very welcome!
This is probably a favorite game for all of us, so we are very happy for you! And super freakin excited!!
*wonders what tricks might be done*

P.S.: Need verifiers? Or is nate and a mod. plenty?

one more thing.. Congratulations dexter on the HUGE time improvement!!  Without using the DC door trick too! And speedrunning such a NON-speedrun-friendly game, thanks for making what we want to see :]

i think 'leveling' here refers to grinding, i.e. killing more enemies than is necessary to reach the final boss.

Yes, that is what I meant. I kill only monsters when it is necessary or when it saves time.

Yes, but it might be painful without Dragon/HP (not that hunting for that would be fun).

However, I might have found a timesaver which would make a time below 2 hours relatively easy even without Dragon/HP. Considering that it would have to be done right after forest this would be a huge disappointment for me but I would submit my current run anyway (could still improve it later).

When I skimmed over some old forum posts I noticed that I wrote that I have only barta 1 against De Rol Le. This is true and I don't remember seeing barta 2 in the shop while doing cave runs (which might be why it didn't catch my attention). The question is whether it is possible to hunt for barta 2 in caves 1. Considering that the fight against De Rol Le takes more than 13 minutes this would be big time saver.

According to http://pso-world.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=2279 the answer is "maybe". It lists "barta 1-2" for caves 1 but for instance I don't remember getting anything but foie/barta/zonde 5 in ruins 1 (it lists 4-6). I might remember wrong though. I read somewhere that pinkal gets better disks so the section id might influence what you get.
EDIT: maybe the level too?

If I can get barta 2 in caves 1 with redria I can start planning for a new run before the old one is even submitted :-/

I haven't done any ep2 test runs with my FOnewearl so far so I don't know how difficult the bosses would be. I vaguely remember that Gal Gryphoon was giving me a hard time with a HUnewearl but that was a long time ago. This wouldn't be a good place to die since you would have to defeat all minibosses again. Seabed might also be difficult if you are not immune to freezing.

Anyway, I will take a short speedrunning break and enjoy Metroid Prime 3 when it comes out in europe in two weeks before I decide whether I am going to improve my ep1 run, do a ep2 run, or run something entirely different.
I have no solution, but i admire the problem.
Great news! I already feared you might give up the run. I guess BrightStar will be quite puzzled to hear that a force run was made 1 hour quicker than his, without door glitching..

And about improving the run with barta 2: There will always be time savers and improvements you didn't find in the first place. But what counts is your effort, the skill and planning you performed in a run, so in your place, i'd be happy with the 2:03 you did.

Well, force is a lot faster than hunter though, once you get around the HP issue.  Especially in Ruin, even with 5 shopping trips (vs. my 2 trips), dexter's force run takes only half the time my hunter will (at least base on current prediction).

Still, even my hucast run is predicted to be around 2:30-40...

But this raises a interesting question, how fast is the fastest, non-tas, time with door glitch?  One will need to take into account what level one needs to be for each boss, what rooms to skips, etc.  The amount of testing and planning needed will be enormous.  I doubt we will ever see this kind of run done... Sad

I didn't do any barta 2 hunting tests so far (still busy encoding and writing comments) but I have an idea for an even bigger time saver. One that promises to be more painful than Dragon/HP though.

AFAIK a blue shield and barta amplifier can be dropped as early as forest (but are very rare). Having to hunt for *two* very rare items would be hell but the level requirement for a barta merge (7) means that it could be used against De Rol Le and everything that follows for a nice 30% damage boost.
So you got your video codes (encoding, whatever its called) working correctly, thats very good news!

If I could learn how to complete SDAs technical standards I would surely have a few runs on the site (probably the case for many other people too, and another difference between SDA and YT).  But it seems so complicated that the only way I could learn is if someone was right beside me explaining everything.

Did you name your character 8 for the only reason of getting the Section ID you wanted the fastest way, or is there another (secret) reason?
1. buy a dvd recorder.
2. handle lag if necessary.
3. record.
4. send resulting files to me.

No secret reason but time counts during character creation so I didn't choose a fancy name.

So you could probably save about 1 (yeah, just one..) second if you choose "1" or "." as a name, by moving the opposite direction on the screen to get to the other side faster.  You do move up to get to "OK", but you picked "8" instead of "1", so I thought there was a reason. haha

What would you say the percentage of runs that come to SDA go to your for encoding is?
always used to say half ... it could be more or less than that, not really sure. sometime when i have free time (haha) i'll go through the news page and do a count.

There is a reason, to get redria for section ID.  Only redria give 4-slot armors at normal difficulty.
Although after checking, "." does give you redria too...
Note to self:
- get Dragon/HP
- get Barta amplifier and blue barrier
- call myself " instead of 6

I think you should keep up a bit of your honour and the one of SDA and enter your nick, dexter. The people will look at that name for almost 2 hours and think "Whoah! What a guy!". That's what most people did in their runs here, look at brightstars PSO run, i.e.
And i also think you should not work your ass off too hard to get 2 very rare items at once only to make your run a bit faster. But of course, it's still about speedrunning and i envy your motivation, so decide on your own! I'll definitely watch anything you create about PSO Wink

I don't think it is that bad. More like when runners look down in a FPS to increase the frame rate. Not pretty but faster. If I had used my nick (augmented for a redria section ID) I wouldn't have mistaken my name for my level at one point though Wink

About the new run, I haven't started yet. I am not even sure whether I really want to do that much luck manipulation. I will probably start, complete forest, and do some hunting segments now and then but don't expect anything soon.
I will need a purplenum section id to be able to get Dragon/HP, blue barrier, and barta amplifier drops in forest 1 and caves 1. Since I haven't started yet this is your chance to vote whether my name should be " or dexter (with a trailing space) Wink

Other news: After some encoding woes I have finally uploaded everything and submitted the run to mikwuyma. If everything is ok it should appear in the queue soon.

Is there hope we will see it this year (sorry, I don't know how long the process takes), Nov maybe ....Oct ?! []-[]
if i had to guess, i'd say november.
My run is now on the verification list so please contact mikwuyma if you want to verify the run.

A couple of tips if you ever try another run:

You can run past enemies and bombs by either using a command set without a targeting command (which you don't have since both your command sets have attack techs) or using the Start menu. Since you're not targeting anything, you'll run straight through bombs and can in most cases disregard them (very easy way to get through bomb corridors), and you can slip past enemies in tight spaces.

You could also use this in Mines 2 to reach an airborne Dubchic life thingy and hit it with Foie.

Pofuilly Slimes usually surface if, when they end their slide, you're right next to them but not touching the main area of slime. It's possible to have it surface after one slide consistently once you reach them.
Dexter's run has been taken off "the list of games that need verifier".  I assume this means we'll see the run within this month? Grin

I am pretty sure the first tip is almost common knowledge.  But this is the first time I heard about the tip on slimes.  I have a suspicion that's the case, but still nice to know for sure.
Too bad that tip doesn't help android, as android can OHKO a slime with fire trap.

Not common enough for me Sad
This trick could have saved quite some time but unfortunately I didn't hear about it until after the run was submitted. Would have been a good incentive to redo mines. It requires some juggling with button assignments but that shouldn't be too hard and foie can be cast quickly via the R-Y menu.

The slimes tactic is also nice. It wasn't too bad in my run but sometimes they can drive one insane.
