I'm not sure it's even possible to do all the quests in one go without new game +.  I'm thinking of The Wimpy Thugling, Seeing Double, and probably some other ones here.  I dunno if you can fulfill all the requirements needed to trigger every quest in a single game.

I decided to do a normal playthrough using mostly your path on the Jumi arc with a new game.  I've never plowed through the game like that before, so I was actually underleveled for once.  My placement of artifacts also probably jacked up the monster levels, since I didn't pay too much attention to where I stuck stuff.  I used a 2H sword instead of a 1H sword(because I love the 2H STs).  2H is much slower so enemies have more opportunities to hit you, making fights slower and sometimes harder(Axebeaks took FOREVER), but it makes up for it with power.  And I LOVE Shish Kebob.

So I was only level 20-something by the time I got to the Bejeweled City, and the bosses there were 31.  I died once on Iron Centaur in Leires, but on the way back down I got a Braveblade, which is a 2H sword dropped by one of the monsters there.  I wasn't really speeding through, and was about 5 hours in by the time I got the Sword of Mana.  And this was starting up again after almost a year of not playing it. XD

Another thing I did different to your path was one quest, The Wisdom of Gaeus, to get the ForbiddenRing, which is otherwise unnecessary, but I use the ring to experience share with the monsters I train.  No biggie.

Yes it is.  I was able to plot out 67 quests in one run, but I wasn't able to figure in "The Wimpy Thugling" because I need the Mana Sword near the desert, need to be at Lv 40+, plus it needs to be done before Flourite, which is where I screwed up on my plotting.  Otherwise, I had them all plotted so you could do them all.  Seeing Double is simply a mana trigger by planting the Mana Tree next to Domina (there is a 2nd one at the Inn in Domina as well).

I KNEW THERE WAS AN ITEM LIKE THAT.  God I couldn't remember it offhand.  It might have come in handy for doing the dragon storyline, being I had a wimpy Rabite.

Running update: After little debate, I reran my Dragons storyline run.  I was pissed off with that recording (I recalculated it at 2:16, not 2:18 because I had included the intro in the timing) because of the screwup at Ghost of Nemesis and dying fighting Vadise/Sierra.  So I reran it.  I ended up with 2:12, but I died at Drakonis (the Crimson Dragon) and seriously whiffed 2 tech attacks, including the first tech attack of the game that I NEVER miss.  STILL not happy, I ran it AGAIN.  Yes, and I did two 2-1/2 hr speed runs in 1 day.  This last run was 2:11 (finished at Lv 21!) and no deaths.  YAY I AM HAPPY.

I should have kept the outtakes.  The funniest one was I was running the dragon quest and I need 400 Lucre to buy SteelSword.  I get to Lumina, sell off every item in my inventory (except stuff equipped).  Total Lucre?  386.  AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGH.

But I have the last two quests now successfully run.  Poor Nate is gonna wanna kill me for torturing him with two more huge recordings. ^^;;
Awesome. Cheesy Actually, just a whole ago, I found this site which has a map placement guide detailing how to get all the events.  The quests that require a certain type of Mana to trigger(Wimpy Thugling needs full Undine, Seeing Double full Shade, etc.) are covered, and it also gives enough of the right kind of Mana in the places that have demi-human pets you can recruit.

Uh, if you were already going by this walkthrough, then just ignore me. XD;
Fucking Weeaboo
I wasn't.  I've been using GameFAQ walkthroughs for figuring out triggers, but going by a completely different order to do an original route that would be fast, and seeing if I could use the same area that I have been all along.  I think I could do it, but I have to move the Jumi Storyline until later in the run, so that way I can have the Mana Tree next to the Dumi Desert, be at Lv 40, and NOT have Flourite finished.

Still plenty of work to go on that yet.

Just an update: tapes are sent off.  I expect my kick ass verifiers to praise me later.  Wink

Psychochild, when you get the videos, will you send them to me like last time?  That way I can write good notes.  I'll give you my new FTP info later.  Since I moved, I have a different IP address that I still have to figure out what it is at some point. >_>;;

While still in the testing stages, I've finally been able to setup a full game 68 quest run.  The ultimate goal is to single session it.  Yes, I am perfectly insane.  Tongue

There might be minor flucuations in it, mainly in regards to Lil Cactus, Daddy's Broom, and I might bump The Mana Orchards up earlier.  Everything I've seen so far works with the requirements (levels existing, prerequesites being done, mission killing missions are after, not before, etc).

Proposed plan, including mission order, map placement, and how mana placement will fit in with the missions here: http://www.imamyth.com/temphost/lom-fullgame.html

Time for a big bump for a big improvement.

Yes, another secret "HAHA SURPRISE" run.

After finishing up the Fairy and Dragon quests, I had this lingering feeling that Jumi could be improved.  There was just WAY too much of a time gap.

So I pulled out my notes and studied, and studied again.  And after a couple practice runs, came this that is my new joy.

Jumi's Storyline...Estimated time: 2:49:27.  Yes, you're reading that right.  TWENTY SEVEN MINUTES FASTER.  Even I didn't expect THAT much improvement.  When I drew up the original plans, I expected 17-20 minutes faster.  But those plans went sour when I found out that Reach for the Stars was required to trigger Flourite.  So after throwing that back in (and thus Enchanted Instruments 101 stayed), I figured 10 minutes.  But no, with all this, plus doing 2 quests I didn't do before (I dropped Huntin' Du'Cate and added in Faeries' Light and Niccolo's Business Unusual: Part 2), I STILL come up this far ahead.  I never could have dreamed.

Now not only can we get a better LOM run (since this is on DVD!), but we can finally get rid of Nate's accident.

I'm ecstatic.  Really...can you tell?!

Twenty seven minutes.   Shocked

Edit: I went back through the calculations and wound up with a 28 minute, 43 second improvement, give or take a couple seconds.

Where did all the improvement come from?

I dropped 10:19 by not doing Huntin' Du'Cate, 3 minutes by doing a better Lucky Clover, 8:20 by doing a better Teardrop Crystal, and 3:36 by doing a better Legend of Mana.  I lost 4 seconds on Niccolo's Biz 1, 4:35 by doing Faerie's Light, and 1:59 by doing Niccolo's Biz 2.  I'll be adding a nice comparison sheet to my site later and info on how I came up with these calculations.

Ok, this game has turned into an obsession.  Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Dragon Storyline improved to 2:02:26.  Is a LOM sub-2 hr run possible?

...it could be. >_>;;

Legend of Mana sub-2 hrs is possible.  I just did it.  WHEE!

I started my timer a few seconds late, so my time was around 1:59:00, give or take a few seconds.  I'll get a better calculation later.

Fighting with a 2-handed sword was weird, but the 17 point advantage (over my 1h SteelSword) made the difference.

Never mind.  My DVD recorder screwed everything up and the video is gone. ;_;
something or another
AHHHHHH!!!!!!!  :-/

I'm sorry, that totally sucks.  You're perfectly capable of doing it again without much trouble though, I have confidence in you.
Fucking Weeaboo
Thank you for the confidence vote.  My new DVD Recorder is working much better, so I'll be running it again later.

(It better, I paid another $50 for it.)

Well, I took some time off from StrangenessDSS kicking my ass in Star Fox 64 to go back to this.  So far my discs are ripping perfectly, which is a good sign.  Thank goodness, because I got sub-2 hrs again.  I started my timer a bit late when I was initially running it when I started disc 2, but with an approx adjustment for that, I figure I was at about 1:58:xx ( low 1:58 ).

I'll do a retime later and get to some difference calculations, much like I did for my Jumi run.

Edit: Recalculated the time at 1:57:49.

So the Panasonic is a thumbs up? No lag, no coasters, none of that?

I'll let you in on a secret. I haven't watched any of your LoM runs yet, because I was holding out on massive improvement. I figured if your avatar is such, you would go back. It is funny to go back and read a little of what you said while writing this, like "no way sub 3 hours is possible" and so forth. Also it's funny that you're doing some of what that Rat guy suggested way back when, like the two handed sword.

Bottle it up. This is more of what your runs should be like. Smiley

Well, the 2H sword was actually an ACCIDENT.  Initially when I was practicing the improvement, I went to the Orchilian, a dagger, which was a +14 (for 34 attack) but it was FAST.  But then when I got to doing my v2 run, I didn't get it.  So I quick stumbled through and found BraveBlade and quipped that (This was just before the 3rd dragon boss in The Flames).  This time around I got it much earlier, equipping it before Deathbringer during The Ghost of Nemesis.

The Jumi still wins for the best weapon so far w/ SwordOfFate, which was 40 attack (1H sword).  That thing just p0wn3d.  Though doing Rising Crush on the Mana Goddess gets a second place mention (about 3/4 bar length damage + stun).

Yeah, I do find the comment about the "can't do it sub-3 hrs" funny now.  Now only is that possible (all 3 storylines), but I've got a sub-2 hrs.  I mean, I wouldn't have thunk.  Which means one thing...

I was obviously an idiot then.  Heh heh.

After having done 4 discs of recording (and a few bad runs I picked out before finalizing them), no coasters, no lag, and good quality picture.  The only thing I miss from the Magnavox is the 2x recording (2.5 hrs).  Oh well.

Edit: Dragon run comparisons are up on my site.

I've been trying to get the new version of the Fairy Storyline run, but things haven't been going well.  Here's my guess as to why.

Full Jinn when doing "In Search of Faeries" I think is the problem, since I believe that wolf boss is a Jinn Elemental (given its lightning attack).  It kicked my ass 3 times in a row today.  But something funny happened.  I finished up through Star-Crossed Lovers and did some time comparison anyways.

Through The Infernal Doll, my time difference between the two runs for mission time?  DEAD EVEN. o_O;;  Even having lost over 9 minutes on In Search of Faeries, to have it work out that way was so hilarious.  I'll have to show off my math on that one. ^^;;

Edit: Comparison times for the present published run, and the failed run

Edit 2: While I haven't confirmed the bosses' element, I'm pretty sure he has to be.  Here's why.

1: thunder attacks, which is Jinn/Syphid type spells.
2: Full Jinn for that space.
3: When I moved over to Lake Kilma (after talking to Matilda to start the mission), it was a Jinn Day.

So Jinn Boss w/ Full Jinn on a Jinn day...yeah, bye bye run.  No wonder I got my ass handed to me.
Speed Running Joy-bringer
I watched that first speed run of this game you did and I thought that blew me away. now that's it's less than half on that one, I'm like... 0_0

I have this game now but wow, you really kick this game. Movreover, you ENJOY doing that too. I'll be watching in exitement (just gotta clear some space...)

Legend of Mana has become such an obsession.  If you thought my Jumi run was awesome, just wait until you see the remake!

And the nice thing is all of these are being done on DVD, so that means better quality, and Nate doesn't have to worry about the tape screwing up!

I'm glad you enjoyed watching it.  I love playing the game and it's always cool when somebody enjoys this game because of me.  This game is sometimes underappreciated, which is sad, because this game offers so much.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i always hate when people say there is no story in this game. I should probably slap them in the face with your jumi run
Fucking Weeaboo
Indeed.  Jumi has the best damn storyline and is IMO the best ending of the game.  Dragon was meh, and Fairy was really depressing.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
That actually kinda reminds me, back when I played the game I never even knew there was a jumi story and I always ended up beating the game with a half assed dragon story. Like I never actually finished the story but I had enough of something else to finish the game. Have you looked into doing just a flat out speed run with no story? I'm pretty sure i never actually fought any of the bosses for any of the 3 major stories seeing as how when you got to them they were all new enemies to me. Then again maybe I've just got a horribly bad memory.
Fucking Weeaboo
It's impossible to beat the game w/o doing one of the three stories.  You need 18 artifacts and have completed The Crimson Dragon, Heaven's Gate, or Teardrop Crystal for Cage of Dreams to trigger.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with a failing brain.  Tongue

Well, I tweaked a few things on my v2 strategy and finally kicked Fairy's butt.

Estimated time: 2:19:40
Improved by 12:43

Funny, that's almost identical to the improvement on the Dragon run (that was 12:13).

A few glitches early, but oh well.  I'm happy. ^^

Edit: Recalculated the time at 10 sec less than what I originally calculated.  I've done my level improvement calculations, and the biggest improvement, ignoring missions dropped was 0:56.  Everything was extremely tight the first time around...almost every mission was a 20 second improvement or less. ^^;;
