Good stuff. I'll try to plan all my expenses for SGDQ and hopefully have some to donate to C4L during your run.
Fucking Weeaboo
You'll want to donate before, so you can influence storyline, character choice and name and such. There's a few ideas for incentives I have for in-game stuff, but most are route specific so I'm not sure how they'll work. But the others are going to happen.
Ate the extra spicy banana
Ah alright. Might want to have a bid war for route and cut it 24 hours before the run and switch to route specific bids.

Only route I know well is the Dragon route, due to unfortunately having a disk that gets stuck loading into Lucemia and Bejeweled City. Still learning the other two routes via emulator and ISO though.

One incentive I think you could add is blindfolded Du'Inke fight. It's the most predictable fight in the game and should be able to be pulled off quite easily, asuming Elazul doesn't troll-bash.

It just occurred to me; Does the PS2's fast-disk make a noticeable difference in the gameload speed? My PS2's disk-drive has been fried for ages so I can't test this. On a similar note, if it does, is that a legitimate increase in speed for SDA's records for this game?
All the things
The JP notes say that fast disc speed saves approximately 5 minutes over the course of the game, but it also screws up some things like the opening FMV. I believe it also makes it more susceptible to softlocks.
Fucking Weeaboo
When I was doing timing comparisons on my PS2 slim, each loading screen was about 1 second shorter when I was using FDS.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Do you happen to know the timing differences between Disc and PSN version as well?
Fucking Weeaboo
I haven't done any comparisons between PS1 and PSN versions at this point.
Ate the extra spicy banana
Are the runs your doing for SDA utilizing the PS2's Fastdisk SirVG? Cuz ~1 second per loadscreen is a good amount of time saved :3
Fucking Weeaboo
I haven't yet because I only recently did my testing.

Ah ok. If its acceptable to use then it might be possible to get a 1:45 or less on dragon route :3

Hey, it's TeganGibby. I recently started running LoM (you may have seen me on Reddit) and I was curious if we could get a leaderboard going. I threw one together, but it is currently missing times, so I need submissions. I'd really like to get an idea of where I stand as far as times go.

Anyways, you can see the leaderboard here.

Just post the stuff that would go in those boxes and I shall add it to the leaderboard.
Fucking Weeaboo
To TeganGibby: Welcome to SDA. Glad to see you make the jump from Reddit. Smiley

As for the Jumi time, the IGT is 2:48:xx for my best run, though it's easily improvable...I just haven't done it yet. I don't know why I don't have a vid up on my YouTube channel though. I do have one for 100% from like 8 years ago with crappy old strats, clocking in at I think 9:59:10 (I timed it years ago but I think I used the same principle for timing). That one I DO have videos up on my YouTube channel. Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA58307F549E12AF8

------

I was linked to a completed TAS of the Dragon storyline (Japanese version) that utterly destroys the game. The strategy is quite unusual.

First off, Video Links:
Part 1: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm22817534
Part 2: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm22820595
Part 3: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm22831626

I documented in a giant pastebin here: http://pastebin.com/57YunBjw

TL;DR version:
The strategy would be great for a Japanese run (though it depends on a lower% drop then the US version), but it's completely worthless for a US run, due to weapon nerfing. Also, emulator speeds up load times.

I've got a Japanese PS2 coming (no more 5.5 minute boot times to get the game going on my US PS2!) later this month/early next month so hopefully will get some attempts in with these strats.

Nice! I need to get myself a Japanese copy and a capture card... (EDIT: Just ordered a Japanese copy...it will be here this week)

I updated the document; assuming you have the world record in every category for now at least due to lack of other entries. I had a set of rules that would be used for these leaderboards but I haven't posted them yet.

If 2bitmarksman is correct about pSX 1.13 and a physical disc having the same load times as running it on a console, I wouldn't have a problem including those runs on this leaderboard. I would want to confirm that first, but I have a 2-page rules document drafted.

Mainly, I want to keep these leaderboards better updated than SDA's page (which hasn't been updated in years).
Fucking Weeaboo
Well, I haven't submitted anything in years, either. And all of the new LoM runners are coming out of the woodwork recently. Not sure what started it though.
Legend of Mana
Weird. I had always wanted to run LoM but had never actually done any sort of speedrunning until recently, so I guess it was just chance that I decided to run it when I did. Definitely happy with it though.

Any idea if there is any chance of a glitch being discovered that is beneficial to runs? Wrong warp-style kind of thing, forcing the game to load the Tree of Mana level instead of Home or something? Not sure how the game handles memory/loading, so no idea if it is even a possibility. Maybe I could do some memory disassembling and figure out where the data is stored and what modifies it; see if I can break it first via Cheat Engine and then via game mechanics.
Fucking Weeaboo
The only glitch I've found is completely useless - the Heaven's Gate Glitch, as I dub it. There's one spot in Lucemia that there's two battle zones that slightly overlap. If you trigger a 2nd battle when the first is still going on, the game softlocks. If you do it with only rewards on screen, you can escape at least, however the path ahead at that spot is impassable. While in theory it could help skip a fight, this is the only spot I've found to trigger it and it's of no use.

Non-Softlock version:
Softlock Version:
Legend of Mana
Ah, that stinks. Any idea who has 2nd, 3rd, etc. place in the leaderboards? Also, thoughts on including pSX 1.13 with physical disc runs in the leaderboard? Do you think it should be allowed, based on 2bitmarksman's timing tests?
Fucking Weeaboo
I haven't ever kept track of who else plays.

As for pSX 1.13, I'm leery until I can test load timings myself. This is mostly because I don't know what the TAS of the Japanese version used and the load times were CLEARLY way too fast.
Legend of Mana
The TAS almost certainly used an ISO rather than a disc, and probably used ePSXe.
Ate the extra spicy banana
For an unofficial leaderboard, it might be fine, but I only tested it the loadtimes in 1 area (going from home to the world map and back), so it's possible it could possibly be faster/slower in random areas. Though, I haven't noticed any difference really when doing full runs of it with the physical disc on pSX vs console.

Either way, got my capture card setup finally, so I can actually attempt proper runs, though the audio still doesn't want to sync correctly on my video recordings :|
Legend of Mana
Getting my capture card and a Japanese copy of LoM this week, but I don't have my PS2 or my US copy of LoM here, so pSX 1.13 it is. Also, I was hoping we could have a semi-official leaderboard since SDA is never updated, which is why I was curious.

Also, 2bitmarksman, mind posting your best times (with VOD/Youtube links if possible)? I'd like to have more people than just Sir VG on the board.
Ate the extra spicy banana
Sure. Another note about pSX 1.13 and why it should at the very least have it's own category is that when I use it during the end credits, it skips exactly 4 minutes of those credits (I timed it with a stopwatch). Always happens, at least for me, whether it's ISO or using the physical disk (This was the primary reason I even tried using the disc with the emulator vs the ISO. The load time testing was just an after-thought).

Once I figure out how to get my audio to stay synced, I'll do some recordings. At current my PB for Dragon route is 1:51, usually getting 1:52's if the big 3 RNG events during the run go right or at least acceptably. Only played Faerie route once and haven't even done Jumi route. And if I do do those, I can only do them on an emulator unfortunately. For whatever reason my game disc refuses to load Lucemia or the Bejeweled city when I try to enter them, which make's me a sad panda.

If you have a Play N Trade near you, they will fix that disc for $5. Hopefully that would make it work.

Is PS2 allowed for running LoM? By SDA rules it seems so, but are we going by SDA rules (no one submits runs anymore)? If not, I have to buy myself a new PS1.

EDIT: Also, added you to the leaderboard.

PS2 is fine just don't use fast disc speed since iirc it is like several minutes faster and messes with the game
