Just squeaked in a little trial run up to finishing the potions class, all I have time for right now in between studying. Was mainly just to get used to the TimeSplit software, but I think I did okay.
Got pretty unlucky in the level up before the bank rat, had a bunch of single monster fights so it took more than it should have. Also took some wrong turns in the dungeon before the sorting ceremony.

If you want to compare a bit, Im entering the castle in 21:05 on my pb. Dont have a split for the end of potions class honestly.
I'll take a minute slower than that on my first attempt haha. Not that there is too much to optimize before getting to Hogwarts.
I'm just using a toooon of checkpoints until I get the route down better. I did everything I did today on sheer muscle
memory from more than a decade ago and it helped to have a detailed checklist of things to do.

Next step is to plot out the most efficient route to get the ingredients :| been a while.

Excuse my gross enthusiasm, I'm just greatly enjoying the return to my childhood in the midst of studying for some hellish finals.
The fact is that I'm kinda slow on the lake, because I'm doing enough fights to up really quickly later. I'm staying on the lake until my number of Verdimillious uno used is something like 44/46. I think psirockin is not doing this, and I don't know if it's better.
Well, for the ingredients, I needed 3 runs to remember well ._.
Keep this enthusiasm and motivation, don't apologize for this Wink
Good job so far Santeego. I think my potions split (when Snape says "Class dismissed") is around 30-31 mins (I missed it in my pb). And no Cactus I don't stay on the lake that long. I considered running into the wall to reset the screen and get more fights on the lake but I just assume that the fights at the castle will be the same speed and that the snake fang will be hard to get (thus giving me more fights). I've never actually timed it though.

Btw I haven't done a run in awhile but I might tomorrow. After your stream I had like 10 attempts fail before getting to the school so I was just really annoyed and didn't feel like playing again.
Usually, I have snake fangs on 2-3 snake fights in the Snape's room. Or this is not a good beginning.
Well, won't do a run for a while I think. My run is what I wanted to do atm. I will go for sub 1h52 attempts later.

Alright, I need some advice. I'm at the rat you have to kill to get Circe, but I'm just getting wiped out repeatedly and losing time. It seems that I could beat it but it's luck based and relies on the large rat hitting missing me a couple of times. I don't know if I missed some grinding somewhere and I'm just underleveled or what but this is crazy :|

Edit: I just checked back a couple of pages and saw the glitch that y'all found. Going to have to practice with that to figure out the exact timing... when I did fast runs as a kid I used hundreds of potions and the poison to just tank out the boss fights..this seems much more efficient.
Well, you should start to use the psirockin strat for the glitch, I think it's easier.
Also, for the Circe Rat, I think you need to have a 0 hit in the 5 first hits if you are not doing the glitch. I'm doing the glitch if I don't have a 0 hit on the first 3 hits, because the glitch is working on the giant rat, so you can lose a turn to regen.
Yeah I think I've got the timing down for about 8/10 attempts. Did something and erased my splits up to that part of the game on accident..not used to this software yet. Oh well, wasn't going too great anyways...was very very very unlucky on the snakes.

I'll give it another ago tomorrow after a final and finishing a project. Night and thanks for the advice/encouragement both of you.
I am such an idiot, was just back home visiting my parents for a week and totally forgot to look for the game. I feel like a massive idiot, won't have it for a good 2 months or so now T.T

Alright I just finished my first complete runthrough

Had some serious issues, had to kill rats outside of gringotts during DATDA to get the second verdimillious level, had some very unfortunate deaths, had what I believe was a glitch in the library where I wasn't finding locomotor mortis and ended uo being caught by the librarian and coming back and it was fixed, and had serious trouble getting the glitch to work with Quirrel...though I beat Voldemort first try.

That's unfortunate Bobius :/

Edit: I just noticed that my ingame time is greater than my recorded time...the only time I paused was to grab some water...does the ingame time increase on the ingame pause screen? That would explain that.
I'm not sure what affects the in-game timer but I know that usually my runs are about 6 mins longer in real time. I would have to say it definitely times in the pause menu then but if you have to reload the save then it throws off the time. Also good run. There are many places in the run where it can die basically because of bad rng so it takes awhile to learn how to manage it.
I agree with what psirockin posted. RTA = like 6 mins longer usually. And, as he said, you will improve your time soon. You have to take the habbit of the route, of how do you avoid  the deathes, etc.
Not a bad beginning Wink
Hey. Sorry its been so long. I've just been playing other games. Anyway I did a run last week and it went really bad. I had one good split that put me ahead (I didn't get any encounters on the Restricted Section part and saved 50 seconds) and then the run died to a game freeze.

Anyway since this was the last chicken I needed to fight I'm wondering if we even need to go for Incendio Duo. I would have got it late in this run (meaning an extra fight) and I'm not sure how much time it saves. I know the big devils snare can be glitched the same way as the other final bosses so it would just be a matter of freezing him and taking out the other two. This would require a few more pepper-up potions but I usually have a few extra. Anyway just a thought and I do intend to play this game more but I just haven't felt like it lately so maybe next week.
That is very unfortunate :/

It would be a huge time saver if only five chicken fights were necessary. I can't test it for a while myself, here at the end of the semester I have way to much to do right now trying to study and find a job. Hopefully soon.
Yeah. It still was a bad run but it could have been a pb. Anyway only 5 chicken fights right now is impossible I think. I was saying just focus on 80 MP and once you get there leave whether you have incendio or not. I would have been able to finish this run if I hadn't done this last fight so this could have saved my run.  Not sure if its faster or not though. Also I would love to find a way to skip the chickens but without a glitch to affect stats or spells I don't think it will be possible from a fresh file. In new game+ (if someone wants to run it) you would only need 5 chickens.

Also I understand about the real life stuff. I'm looking for a new job too right now.
Well this update has been needed for some time. After losing some runs badly about a month ago I didn't really want to play this game but now that has changed. I did a run yesterday and one today. Yesterday's failed because the troll caused me to use too many potions but today's was very successful. After a really bad start I came back and beat my time by 4:16 so this is now the best time out there. Here are the splits. And Cactus I forgot we agreed on splitting after the cutscene so this is off by 50 seconds (I split at Voldemort running away). The new time is 1:51.50. Since my beginning was still so bad Im not satisfied with this and I still have gone through and optimized the route. I'm sure there are better ways to do things. Even with this route though I think sub 1:50 is possible you would just have to get lucky. I plan to optimize the route before I do more attempts. Hope ya'll are still interested and I should upload the run to youtube tonight since I wasn't streaming at the time.

Awesome man! So close to the sub-1:50. I haven't been playing it at all, unfortunately, but instead focusing on other games. I'll check the run later once you upload it.
Yeah thanks Pip. I just got the run uploaded. I understand playing other games. Thats what I did for a month and then this run came out of nowhere. Anyway it is 1:45:52 game time (not sure if we still need to use this) which compared to Cactus's run (1:48:15 game time) is quite an improvement. If Cactus split where I did his time would have been 1:53:32 so a 2.5 minute improvement. I started making save states today to work on the route so that should bring down the time more. Anyway here's the run

Ok so I found a few things. Only one of them saves time but they're all pretty interesting. Here they are.

There's a word for that
Hi I'm finally posting here. A few comments (apologies for memory fuzz/if I'm covering old territory):
-General movement (walking, menuing, minigames) could be a little better/more decisively, although it looks like some of that might be input difficulties
-I noticed a couple of times crossing the river that combat could be done more efficiently, such as removing weaker enemies first (12:30 in) or being more efficient with MP (16:30; unless Vermillious doesn't work on the worms you could have used it twice rather than using that Pepper Up right before levelling)
-...I never did figure out what skips the purple rabbit fight Sad
-Obviously every potion you don't make or replace with a quick pickup has risk/reward potential, especially later on if you can get a Grand Wiggenweld or two
-It's hard to tell if you're doing this from the video, but I remember being able to catch the next lot of chickens immediately most of the time by mashing A after the fight ends
-Am I remembering correctly that you can't deathwarp out of the Forbidden Forest?
-IIRC the chess pieces drop some very nice gear that could maybe help you take an extra hit; I also remember the bats in the astronomy tower dropping a half-decent robe

I like what you've done overall though Cheesy There's nothing obvious I can see to cut down in the way of grinding, any less and you won't have the MP for Mucus Ad Nauseum or Verdimillious Duo for the troll.
Hey. Thanks for posting. I'll just answer what I can.

My walking can definitely improve. It is a little hard to control, especially around turns (staircases, avoiding encounters) so ill work on the path soon.

I think what you're talking about on the river was just an input mistake. This was the first run so I wasn't menuing that well. And I use the pepper up potion so I can use verdimillious for the level up (I'm not sure that this is worth the time and potion loss)

I acually never knew you were supposed to fight the rabbit. I always just walk up to him and press a. I even tried to get into a fight with him and I can't so idk.

And definitely making less potions is faster I just know that there is a lot of time to save without risking the run to less potions. (For reference I make 20 wiggenwalds and depending on the drops I make 5 or 6 pepper up potions)

And yes my chickens were awful in this run I normally can get them in position after 1 or 2 chickens and keep them there the whole time. As you can see from the splits I lost some time here when I normally gain time.

I really wish you could deathwarp out of the forbidden forest but you just go back to the unicorn.

And about the item drops I always go for a hardened boots drop from the rat in gringotts but I'm reluctant to reset later in the voldemort get a crit.

Anyway thanks for watching and i definitely will be doing more attempts and routing soon so ill post it here.
Ok. Another update. I got another pb. This time its 1:49:43 real time (1:44:09 game time). This was pretty good but I still lost 2 minutes on one split. This uses a new skip from a video I posted earlier and I used cactuspiquat's method of the poison glitch at the end. I almost lost it to Voldemort but this is pretty successful considering this is the first time I used this method. I'll still try to improve this since I still do not have a deathless run. It seems to be impossible for me. Also an interesting note i actually won the house cup in this run. I've never seen this in a run because I skip all of the things that give you points besides following the story. I'll have to check this out later to see why I won. Anyway here are the splits and I'll probably upload the run tomorrow. There's still a couple of minutes to save here.

I would really like to have some more people running this game. If you haven't played it and are interested let me know. Pip and Cactus I hope yall can do some runs soon and I think we should try to do a race or something. Maybe no reset runs. I think it would be fun to have a little competition. Really all of the time difference is easy to make up because my last 2 completed runs were 4 min and 2 min improvements so once you get the route its easy. Anyway I'll have the run up tomorrow.

Also I just realized that I finally got sub 1:45 game time which was one of my initial goals so that's great. Based on how it is now I think this route could go 1:42-1:41 game time or so, so I guess thats my new goal. Along with getting a deathless run.
