Level 8 and 9 are killing me, choking the life out of me, stress on the choke part.

Was 35.9 seconds ahead of 34:50 pace after level 6.  Completely choked away level 9.

I'm close.  I think I'm going to do a bit of practice on level 9, since it's the dungeon I play the least in runs.  Won't be able to practice the Patra skip properly, but I'll be able to work on the wizrobe rooms, make sure I'm reading their patterns correctly.

Played fairly well tonight.  Got a run of 34:55 and deaths at Gannon at 34:44 and 35:00.  Hopefully it doesn't take much longer.

Oh, and this is a must view if you didn't see it earlier.

Don't feel bad, I did 1,000 attempts for just 1 fight of 14 in my MTPO IL table and I still did not get the time I wanted. Sometimes it is just not meant to be and I was okay with settling. It could have taken another 100 attempts, or another 1,000 attempts to get the time I wanted. I get the feeling you are kind of in the same boat, so here are some options:

1) Taking a break can be very helpful.
2) Pick a number of attempts at which you are going to stop so you don't feel like it might never end.
3) Never surrender! Keep grinding attempts until you get the time you want, just beware ZSRP when you end up getting a faster time!

Good luck, whatever you end up doing.

I agree sinister. Also my Bionic commando run take me hundreds attempts and couple months to beat. This still could be a lot better than i did.  IIRC Heidrage spend so long working on his Super-C run longer than any other runners ever.

I´ll wish luck your run. You will make it but its can take a lot time.

Got a bit of my confidence back.

Unfortunately, fate likes to play cruel tricks on people, got a time of...34:50.

Technically, it's about six tenths of a second slower.  It looks better, however.  One thing goes differently in level 9, and it's 34:45.  I'll likely save it and try on another DVD.
Keep it up Darkwing!  I've been following this topic closely and am super stoked to see you pull off an amazing time!

35:01 tonight.  Was off my amazing first 34:50 level 8 and 9 times by about 4 seconds, so all I need to do is have one complete run.  Had the final attempt of the night be -12.4 going into level 9, but both lack of good luck and bad luck on the first forced patra ended the run.

Need to stay consistent on the middle levels and I think this run will be accomplished soon.

34:53 tonight.

My five best times are: 34:50, 34:50, 34:53, 34:55, and 35:01.  A game that has a lot based on luck shouldn't have such clustered times at the top.

One run of 34:57, but that's not the reason.

Death at Gannon at 34:28.  -24 or so seconds after level 8.  Should have been it.  Patra before Gannon gave me issue, unfortunately.  Gannon wasn't terrible cooperative either.

Well, changed the thread title.

Reason for this is I was playing around testing a marathon route for the second quest.  While I did die on Gannon, my time would have been 44:34 or so, which happens to be nine seconds faster than the current run on site (second quest, no Up+A).  I used some safe strategies and tested some strategies, like getting the HC in the desert that doesn't seem necessary, and getting the HC after the Gleeok in level 7.  Add in the fact that I didn't feel like I played well, and this "safer" route might not lose much, if any, time to the current route.  The one thing I did get in this test run was Uyama (DAMN YOU!!!) bomb luck.  I didn't have to do any manipulating of bomb drops.

So maybe I use this route for an SDA run.  I'll post the routes.

Current run on site (mirrors the TAS that was done at the time, and still now, I believe; I'll have to check):

Level 1
Money Making game left of start, candle from shop near start
Level 2
100 secret
HC north of level 6
Ladder in level 6
Arrow
Power Bracelet
Level 8
White Sword
Level 4
Flute warp to level 3
Level 5
Flute warp to old level 7
Level 6
Warp stairs from right of 6 to north of 3
Level 3
HC west of magical sword
Magical Sword
Level 7
Flute warp to 6
Level 9

Now the route I played today:

Level 2
Level 1
(HC in desert)
30 secret northeast of level 3
Level 3
Flute warp to old level 3
Candle in old level 3 shop
100 secret south of fairy fountain (only second quest 100 secret)
HC north of level 6
Ladder
Arrow
Power Bracelet
Level 8
White Sword
Level 4
Flute warp to 3
Level 5
(Flute warp to level 1)
(Magical Sword)
Flute warp to old level 7
Level 6
Flute warp to old level 2
Level 7
Stair warp from two screens east of start to one screen east of old level 6
Level 9

The parentheses is the route if I get the HC in the desert.  If not, I get the magical sword after 6.
I had come up with a similar route when you were doing your 1st quest runs. Mine is a little different, and a bit harder in the beginning. It goes like this:

Level 2
HC north of 6
Ladder
Power Bracelet
Level 1
30 secret NE of level 3 (you may need both NE of 3)
Level 3
White Sword
Level 4
Level 8
Flute Warp to old 3
Candle
100 Secret
Arrow
Level 5
Flute warp to old 7? (not sure about how long it would take to just walk)
Level 6
Flute Warp to 1
Magic Sword
Flute warp to old 2
Level 7
Flute warp to level 1 (or use the stair warp if it really is faster)
Level 9

I just did a play through with this route and it does work. I forgot a key and it ended in 9, but that was my fault. Another thing to think about would be putting levels 4 and 8 before 1 and 3. But I don't want to think about the difficulty spike there.

In regards to getting the magic sword after 5. I think there is only one fight in level 6 that would require using the sword, so I don't think it's worth getting it before that.

I've contemplated starting at 2 and going to 6.  I dismissed it because you would be bypassing the 100 secret and thus not getting the arrow on the walk to 8.  Getting the 100 secret afterward never came to mind. I hadn't contemplated going to 1 after 6.  Going to 8 after 6 while starting at 2 brings rupee luck into play.  I would spend most of 2 bombing to keep my supply of bombs up and killing enemies faster, so few rupees there.  No kills other than a couple of wizrobes in 6.  No rupee chances in 8 unless I use bombs that I need to conserve.  I'd have to get 30 secret in old 6 which is dangerous coming back out of there.  Repeated attempts show that I have to reload the screen below the old 6 twice to safely walk down the stairs if I don't have the beam sword.  It adds a good chunk of time.  284 would require walking to 1 after 4, as well.  I think it's too much walking, among other things.

2-Ladder/PB-1-3 is interesting, though.  The arrow is 5 screens of extra walking (I count the three bush screen as a half screen twice) in that route, so not a huge loss.  Or, if you want to count the extra screens to get back on the direct route, it's 5 screens as well.

I'm assuming if you walk across the desert to get from 1 to 3 that it's still faster to kill the Dodongos in 3 than getting the HC in the desert.  The dodongo battle is, of course, more varied in time than getting the desert HC.
I wasn't truly serious about doing 4 and 8 right after the ladder, but it was something I had contemplated. It might be faster if you do 7 right after 3. However, that means you're using the white sword for 7. I didn't think you'd go for that, and it's probably slower anyway with all the fighting in 7.

Let's think about the HC in the desert. It would take an extra screen transition to go there ~1 sec, whistle blowing ~2.5 sec, time taken for stairs to appear ~2 sec (no travel since you're waiting for the stairs), text ~2-3 sec, grabbing and leaving cave ~2 sec, back on track ~1 sec. That comes to around 11-12 sec. Could be a little shorter or longer. The dodongos are also a good place to restock on bombs if you're low, so you'll want to consider that.

There's a Gohma in 7.  Can't do 7 before 5.
THIS RUN CONTAINS SECRET WORLDS
On top of that, you need the recorder (which is in Lv. 5) before you can even enter Lv. 7.

We're talking about the 2nd quest, not the first. You only need the candle to enter 7.

Since we discussed it a little in Feasel's channel, I got the impression you might willing to do 7 with the white sword. I haven't tested this route, but it should work.

Level 2
(HC North of 6)
Ladder
30 secret in old 6
PB
Level 8
White Sword
Level 4 (note, you'll be paying a HC here just to get through)
Flute warp to old 3
Candle
100 secret
Arrow
Level 5
Level 1
Level 3
Level 7
Flute warp to old 7
Level 6
Level 9 (yes, just walk there)

The HC north of 6 isn't needed, but I left it there because of the difficulty of the route.

As an alternative to getting the 30 rupees in old 6, you could try your hand at Money Making Game. There's a spot just south of 6 right when you come out of the Lost Woods. Just play a tune and watch it appear. There is also one on the way to 8. The screen just left of the stairs leading to the magic sword has a bomb-able wall.

I don't know how keys will hold up though. That's my biggest concern about the route, aside from difficulty and the time it would take to kill things in 7. I'm also not convinced it's the absolute best way to do it, but I don't see any other way right now.

Also, in regards to my other route and your original thoughts, I noticed it would be quicker to walk from 6 to 9 than it would be to take the stair warp near 7 and then go to 9 by more than a couple screens. It might actually be faster to get the magic sword after 5, do 7, go to 6, and finally 9. Not sure on the best way to get from 7 to 6 though. Taking the stair warp and flute warping to old 7 seems to be the same. So, I guess I take back my statement about it not being worth it.
