oh ok. Well I wouldn't say he's cheating or anything, because he and mcr are always streaming runs and you can tell they're putting in practice... compared to a certain kid from australia who makes donkey kong country TASes and puts them up on youtube labeled as 'world records' :> (or tries to submit to SDA...) I guess I would blame the time difference being a streamed run from ustream or from wherever, probably dropping lots of frames from the stream.
I made a real-time TAS (re-records only, every room perfect) and it came out to about 1:26. When compared to that, a time like 1:32 doesn't seem that great in comparison, but with the current route I doubt we'd ever see anything under 1:30 foreverrrr. I'll make one later without any luck manipulation whatsoever, but with Audity (LTTP4HTTP on youtube) finding new tricks all the time, it would still be about 1:26 for a real-time tas I think. I might do it tomorrow and upload, so you can see lots of new strategies worth practicing :> I guess I would leave out some stuff that's just too risky in the real-time tas... for example an 'early bomb jump' at the hera tower moon pearl, you can technically plant the bomb early, and then grab it and walk up and throw it and position yourself on the ledge... but it only saves one second and it's pretty risky. I didn't do it in the multisegment run I'm recording because that segment's too frustrating with the death mountain stuff. Actually WAK your hera tower segment is really good in general :> maybe the best segment overall?
One thing I'm interested in... Is which emulator they are using when streaming. SNES9X 1.43 or 1.51/1.52. As that will make a difference in the speed.
The 1.5 versions are supposed to emulate the SNES more correctly than 1.43 is, 1.43 is generally being too fast with stuff (Or so I've heard). That could be a reason why the times are lower.
We'll see what the tests result in.
Edit: Just got to my knowledge that they weren't even using SNES9X, but another emulator which I'm unsure of which.
I'm not assuming he's cheating. But we can't compare his 1:32 to my 1:35 =|.
I subscribed to lttp4http, he's pretty impressive at finding time-savers! Probably that 1:31 would be feasible on console. Anyway, this 1:32 does not impress me in terms of game play, the run has it's dose of mistakes, plus he went for the red mail which turned me off.
I'd say part 15 is the most flawless segment from my 1:29 run.
Oh and BTW I have a new light world segmented that I recorded, and I'm 48 seconds ahead of my uploaded run on SDA. don't do anything slower
As Tompa just edited, the Japanese players don't use Snes9x. Regardless of minor differences, they are comparable enough to say that Ikaruga has the current WR (and has broken 1:33). Whether or not it's an impressive run, that fact remains.
Just nailed my first attempt at re-speedrunning the game. My rustiness gave me a very slow run with 9 death. including 5 in Ice Palace. Stupid damage boost. However, I skipped the fat fairy and finished the game with the 3rd sword and normal arrows and it was fairly easy actually.
yeah people are more afraid of level 3 sword run than they should be. Ganon may only be vulnerable during a few frames, but the spin has such a wide attack arc that it really doesn't matter
also WAK I assume you are aware of the whirlpool leading to the ice palace (after getting flippers)? It's a big time saver from the old routes.
Lots of small mistakes, but still ended up with 1:31:50, yay (and poor Gagaji had just set the WR a couple days ago).
I'm really not sure how feasible it would be to get sub-1:31... Agahnim fights were bad, but on the other hand a lot went pretty well, so I dunno. Need more practice!

Really great run, congrats. Are you planning on submitting to SDA? It would be great to see it here (obviously would have to be non emulator).

Depends, I'd like to see how the other players do with more practice. Also I've unfortunately been playing for 7 months on keyboard since I was never really super serious about this until recently, and now it's an exercise in frustration to try switching to pad...
Learning new controllers is annoying, but if you grind it out enough you'll get it. It took me several months to switch from pad to joysticks for fighting games, so don't be surprised if it doesn't come to you immediately.
Do you plan to stream your console runs if you go that route?
