As it isn't allowed to press left+right/up+down, then going to Zelda won't take too long, that will be the fastest. The other glitch run uses the same glitch but just makes the game longer by defeating the bosses and grabbing the pendants/crystals. I really don't see much reasons to have such run.
A "fastest to kill Ganon" would probably be a better category if so. As most of the dungeons, except the bosses basically, will be skipped.
Here is a run showed what that would look I, made by Flagitious. He's using left+right+up to go through the stairs, but the same glitch can be replicated by saving after a ledge so the idea is still the same.
It's a BIG HEAD!
I know the idea behind this, but why is it not allowed to use up+down/left+right? It's faster if done through the door on the other side of the room, but it's more unstable.

That's probably the most discussed glitch on SDA, but heh.

It's not allowed because on a normal controller, it's unnatural to be able to press two opposite directions at once. Usually, the controller must be opened or things like that for the trick to work.

Some users came here saying it was natural and easy to be able to do press two opposite directions with a snes controller, but they probably come from a different tangeant dimention where up is also down, left is also right and logic leads to a blackhole.

Btw, that 12 mins run leading to a ganon beatdown blew my mind.
It's a BIG HEAD!
BTW, on a normal, official SNES controller, it is doable without opening the controller, it just requires pushing both up an' down hard, and doing that for few mins to get it done, your fingers will be bloody in a while Tongue To do this on the run, it requires luck to get it done immediately when you try, and then so that the route I take won't crash.
You basically need to press as hard that you, more or less, break the controller to be able to press up+down at the same time. Which would be the same thing as modifying it. So it isn't allowed anyway.

Wak: There are some route changes that are going to be made as well as better optimising, obviously. I'm not sure if he's ever going to finish the run though.

Bleh, that's boring. Oh well, back to get my phase 1 game to the end, then I can finally start to play without insane amount of glitches. Tongue

That is the most ridiculous ruling I have ever heard
I'd like to submit a time:

SNES Single Segment - 1:48:07

I'm not exactly sure how this game should be timed, so I'll just let you guys know how I did it.  I used the stopwatch on my laptop, starting it when Link's feet hit the floor, and ending it when I walked through the door that opens after defeating Gannon.  I think I recall reading that this was correct at some point, but let me know if it's not.

While I'm here, can anyone give me some tips for bombing over to the moon pearl?  I can't do it constantly at all, so I just skipped even trying in this run.

Pretty good time!

To bomb over to the moon pearl, I personally watch link's right ear. It should be about 4 pixels over the edge when you get bombed. It is necessary to press as least as possible on the controller's pad to not fall. When you feel like you're at 3 pixels, knowing you won't make it, don't try to press for the missing pixel: get back and try again.
Hi I'm Kryssstal
Here are a bunch of times you probably haven't seen before: http://forum.solidstatesquad.com/index.php?showtopic=7089

All times are from Japanese players except for Jadin, WAK, and I. The Nico runs on my list have already been converted to SDA/English timing.

Also hi WAK. Our ragtag team of misfits has been busy learning as much about ALttP as possible. Maybe practicing some of the new tricks will inspire you to improve your record? More friendly competition is always fun considering we only have a few people interested in this game...

But yeah, we're working on a wiki consisting of optimal strats for every room (hooray for OCD) and then hopefully Professor Tompa will grade them and see if he notices any flaws. Then the grind for sub-1:32 begins!

Omg wth. Were was I when my record was beaten????
Hi I'm Kryssstal
Dunno but you should learn the Ganon fight with Tempered Sword only and try to beat Ikaruga's time. :>

He got the WR in like April for a while, then I randomly beat him at the end of May, and now he claimed it again. He still uses Golden Sword/Silver Arrows too...

You can follow Japanese progress on here (add 32 seconds to get SDA time): http://www40.atwiki.jp/niconamarta/pages/36.html
I survived MIKE-Fest 1
Wow I didn't know there was so mutch activity for this game I will playing this on Mikefest 2 so I'm in for a little challenge  8)
Lol Marlie, professor Tompa :P.

I must say that I'm still very scepical to the amount of seconds it differs between the Japanese version and the American version. I'm going to go through all text again with both version to see.

But yeah, I should get back to TASing this game soon to test out some different strategies (For real time runs as well as for the TAS) to see if I can find anything faster. I'm not sure that I can find any more major time savers as the bomb boost in Ice Palace. But I have ideas actually :).

Anyone there's up to lend me his japanese cartridge...? I'D be up for the challenge.

EDIT: screw that. I worked to have the english version, just for your eyes to see, I'll stick with that.

Secondo, I am currently working on something else, so, ALTTP will wait =|.

Uncle speech (English) alone is radically different between emulator versions. I consistently observe 221 frames in 1.43 (your TAS is 221 and your "ALttPTEXT" file has 222 listed) and 246 in 1.52.

Meanwhile, Jadin gets through the text about .2 seconds faster than 1.52 on console... So which version do you think is accurate enough? Maybe VC with a turbo controller to more easily play both versions?
hello guys you're all my heroes!! here's random thoughts

I play on VC because I think it'll be accepted by SDA that way and I don't have snes. working on MS run then SS then SS100% later. hera tower sucks. :<

The only things I notice sometimes is that the VC version has random lag in certain spots, especially when dashing through the castle courtyard on the way to hera tower, and also 2 screens later when dashing along the diagonal slope at the lake. I haven't played on an snes in a long time so I don't know how it compares.

Also I was thinking today that an emulated run would be about 5-6 seconds faster than a console run due to running at 60 fps instead of 59.94?

I did the first time comparison with emulators by pressing A every 3-4 frames during text displays and found a difference of 31 seconds. But I also rounded up stuff to the nearest 10th frame so it was just a ballpark figure. Then Marlie did the TAS comparison (turbo buttons) and found a 32 second difference overall, so I trusted it better than mine.

Remember that the Japanese time attacks rules are a little different. They start the timer as soon as the first room appears, which adds around 30 seconds to their timer. They also add another couple seconds or so to the end because they don't stop the timer until the triforce appears. There's really about an extra minute of text overall in the US version, they just handicap themselves with that long intro.

sorry if you guys knew that stuff already and I'm just rambling!!

anyway I used to stream at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/apparently-games but I haven't been lately due to playing other games and recording instead of streaming. I'll probably stream SS runs for practice after finishing MS run :>

I don't know about the lake, but the castle courtyard dash does have major slowdown on a console SNES.

This sounds amazing!  How is progress going on this project, and is there any way I can contribute?
Actually I noticed while watching either an Ikaruga or WAK run that they actually walked diagonally up toward the gap at the moon pearl, while charging the sword downward, so that they don't go up too fast and fall into the pitttt. Should be safer that way
Where can I watch a run by this Ikaruga (sounds appealing since I played so much of his namesake game in college)?

Is there any vid of that 1:32:59????

Bug me on AIM if you'd like to help. It's going better than expected, since it has inspired a friend of mine to find small things that can even help out Tompa's new TAS.

Also, Ikaruga never bothered to upload a video of his current record, it was only streamed I assume. But if you have a Nico account you can watch his previous record which is only 21 seconds slower. Links are on here.

I've actually been practicing ALttP for several hours a day again, so I hope to get a decent run soon which could be used as a learning tool for people who have never seen all the new tricks.

Tompa is supposed to show me a file of every new time savers.. so that I can take part of the competition again =).

Meh. I did a side-by-side comparison between his 1:32:48 and my 1:35:45. I started them at the exact same moment when they appear outside of link's house. He saves up between a quarter and half a second over the path from link's house to the secret passage, with absolutely no difference in terms of game play.

In hyrule castle, he's catching up on me, and I mean at the places I don't do ANY mistake, and he uses the same strategy as me.. At the sanctuary, he's ahead on me by a fair distance already. This is bad.
