Thanks for all that information, Zenic.  I'll let you all know what I find out.  As for when this will happen, I'm not quite sure.  I know we've got some family reunions going on this summer, so I need to find out when those are.  Anyway, I'll post more tomorrow about logistics and stuff - right now I've got a headache and need to go lie down. Looked at utah houses with 5+ bedrooms and 3+ bathrooms. First result in Utah is $49,000.

Oh, our house cost a lot more than that. Wink  If you're wondering how we were able to afford it, it was due to full-ride scholarships, a great job right out of college, extremely cheap rent in exchange for managing a four-plex of apartments, and a stock account that Denton's dad set up for him when he was little.

All that I got was a cow on my grandpa's farm named after me, although its sale partially financed my college expenses.

Now that the marathon is being planned in Utah, I am definitely interested.  I could even use part of my trip visiting with my family.  I would be happy sleeping in a tent.  I am not sure what games I would play yet, but I have a NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube that I could bring, and I can bring games if needed.
I have one question.  I have a Pomeranian (small dog) that can't be away from me (massive separation anxiety)  Is it okay if I bring him?  So many places don't allow dogs that it makes it difficult for me, and so I had been indecisive.

This sounds pretty awesome actually. I haven't uploaded and videos yet, and I am a new member, but I am certainly interested in attending the event.
Utah eh?

That reminds me of a story. When I was younger I worked from home and these Mormons would come to my apartment complex during the day and try to convert people with all that Jeebus talk. I was usually the only person home, and/or nice enough to actually let them in for a while. One day I asked them if they would like to play some N64, and one of them said "we are not really supposed to be playing video games," but the other one (he was kinda the leader of the two) was like "okay, I will try it." So I pop in Mortal Kombat 4 and completely demoralize the guy, fatility and all. But it is too late, he is hooked. This was like crack cocaine for this kid who had obviously never even seen a video game in his life. We played for a while until the other guy nagged him enough and they left. After that day, they would return randomly ONLY to play N64 and not a word of Jeebus was ever spoken again.

I might have to come to this Utah marathon just so I can corrupt more Mormons Tongue
Fucking Weeaboo
Um, you do realize that your host IS Morman, right?
Everybody's favorite monster
I dont think he does.

@Scorpion
Utah isn't the only place to find Mormons. There's a Church of JC of LDS down the street from where I grew up (Los Angeles). I always wondered why we'd go to the church 15 minutes away when there was one that took less than 5 minutes to walk to. We'd get a lot people going around the area many times a day.

Oh, and you misspelled Jesus.
Fucking Weeaboo
I think the misspelling was intentional, since they are an ignorant fool, after all.

Anyway ...

I'm really surprised how much the location change has renewed interest for many.  Really.  But, the more the merrier after all.  Though, we desperately need to start hashing out a schedule, because there seems to be quite an abundance of runs offered.  I was practicing running an Xbox360 game that is not currently on the site (not one that will excite that many people, but at least there's a bounty on it) on top of Toejam and Earl.  I also want to start practicing for maybe Jurassic Park w/Raptor and Marble Madness down the line, so I'm looking for systems ...

BUT, I should probably wait and see how much time I should expect to have during the marathon.  We're talking 48 hours.  That is going to end well, WELL before you expect, and with so many people talking about 5-6 decently long games, we're either going to have to trim or expand the marathon (but given that we are intruding into someone's actual home, I'm thinking that trimming might be the better option).  Plus, Essentia ballparked a capacity to house (I think) 30 people, so we may need to do a sign-up sheet.

Perhaps that won't be necessary, but in the event that 50-100 people would like to appear, we may want to narrow down who will actually be playing a game and who will be staying long enough that another space to sleep should be allotted.  If any of this goes down eventually, I would hope that the people who are traditionally unable to attend the winter marathons get preference, but I also don't want to start excluding people left and right and defeat the purpose of the marathon.

Ideas?
Bwahahaha... there WILL be domination!
As the marathon grows, I'm sure it's likely to wind up being the best runners, or something...  There's no way we could have everyone who wants to go to a marathon actually show up: we'd run out of space in a hurry... or run out of time in a year >_>

Also, there were a handful of "if (person) is coming, then I'm not", and I have no idea a fair way to sort that out (the two cases I did decide on, it was that the offender in question might/would probably disrupt the marathon, but the others weren't as clear cut.  Not naming names, but it's a consideration of the group.

@Uyama (or anyone at the main marathons), was there any of this handled at the big marathon?  If so, how did you guys do it?
Waiting hurts my soul...
I would say limit people to 1 game, or less than 2 hours. That gives a minimum of 24 - 25 people the opportunity to run a game. Deciding who's going to run what if we have too many people offering will need to be discussed. I suggest a new thread, one that would also discuss the schedule.

As for sorting out sleeping arrangements, Essentia decides because it's her house, but it sounds like there should be room enough for the runners at least.

Planning for the future as more people want to attend... these marathons may actually turn more into a convention style gathering I imagine.

@Aitamen: "if (person) is coming, then I'm not" - That surprises me, but I guess it's to be expected once enough people are in one space.
Sonical!

I think that the best solution would be to ignore people who put such conditions. They will eventually realize that not attending a marathon because another person is going is immature and stupid.
I want off the ride....
honestly in all fairness... the person who is going to run/host/etc the marathon probably has first pick on all deciding factors of games. if they dont want it toughy... it would just make matters easier.

I was looking at dates, and it looks like the weekend that Aitamen was planning (July 28th-31) will work just fine.  If we're only doing 48 hours, I'd prefer to start the marathon on Thursday the 28th and end on Saturday so that we could avoid doing this on Sunday (mainly because of religious beliefs, yes).  We could use most of Thursday to get set up and start the marathon that evening, and then use Sunday as a day to get everyone home before the work week starts on Monday.  However, I don't know if that will be enough time to set up, and if most people are arriving on Thursday it could get a little crazy.  I'd like to hear what others think.

We definitely need to figure out how many people are planning to come.  I think 30 is probably the max number of people we can house here, so if there are more than that, we'll have to work something out.  I know a lot of people posted in this thread, but since the location has changed, I'm going to make a new official sign-up thread.

If there was any of this then I didn't hear about it.  Basically if someone is petty enough to seriously give you an ultimatum, then they don't deserve to be dealt with.  Either they'll decide to man up and come anyway and be mature, or else they'll stay home.

My feelings on The Demon Rush
Aitamen: There was no, "If so so and so comes, I'm not coming business", and I agree with what Flip says.

Zenic: No, just no. What if one of the games someone wants to run is 10 minutes? Then they can't play another game? I'm with Rane on this one. I can help schedule once the game list is finalized, if Essentia wants me to.

Essentia: Sounds like good dates to me. You're the boss.
Everything's better with Magitek
That would be great if you could help with the schedule, Mike.  I'll also probably need some help choosing which games should be on the list, because there are a lot of games I don't know or haven't played.

That's why I said game limit or time limit. I understand some games are very short, and sitting down to run a game for 5 minutes may not be enough pay off for someone that can run 10 5 minute games to come to the marathon.

My god... you just solved my "can't record runs cause I don't have $ for a DVD recorder" dilemma.
