I have 2 easy caps, and could bring a mini itx core2 duo rig with ~700GB of external hdd space. I also know how to stream/capture various games with Flash Media Live Encoder/SCFH DSF/VirtualDub. However, I just realized that I am currently without a car, and while I plan to have one by the time Summer rolls around, I may need to carpool with one of the other Utah people. I've also been considering getting one of those Black Magic Intensity Pro cards, but am unsure as of yet whether I will get one of those or not.
Bwahahaha... there WILL be domination!
So that takes care of the main computers for recording and streaming, I think.  I'll need to know what games/events are being run (like, do we need more than 2 capture devices?  Are we running races?  how many people?

All this is stuff We'll figure out eventually, but it's good to know the basics are covered.

I agree the software that comes with is trash. I use VDoub for recording myself. And yes, I had a fun time getting the proper drivers as well. After all that fun time, I made the thread for it in the tec board to help others out. Good once you get the right stuff for it. And you are also right about the site, they offer NO support at all.

Glad things are coming together quickly. As for races... I have no idea. Best thing I can think of is have a main stream Co host the others and divide the broadcast stream that way. I dont know how quality would be, but from my co hosting experience, should be great. But that would only cover the stream portion, not the recording...

Well I myself won't be running any races, but if anyone intends to, it'll be more hardware.  That in itself isn't a bad thing, as long as said hardware is available.  (Additional hardware won't be required for off-site runners, I'd assume, so I'm not concerned with that.)

Also, though I haven't finalized a place yet, I have found a couple places where we could do it (meets criteria and isn't painfully expensive).  I'm certainly going to keep scouting around to see if I can find a place for cheaper, though.  This was the second thing I was most worried about (the first was hardware), so it looks like this is really happening!

Black Magic Intensity Pro card

great card unless you want to do 480p (which it doesn't support at all - doh). only other drag is you can't capture ps3 over hdmi unless you buy an hdcp stripper because sony is a cock. capture using the attached codec in vdub and you shouldn't have disk write bandwidth problems even at 720p.

Yeah, I heard about the issues with 480p, and apparently they actually decided to implement 480p with their USB3 Intensity Shuttle, but that one opens its own can of worms trying to get a full bandwidth USB3 port Cheesy

Thanks for the codec though. I'm sure that i will use it if I ever decide to drop the cash and buy one.
that Metroidvania guy
I'm in Los Angeles, but unfortunately the cost of going to D.C. for the last marathon leaves me in a position where I can't attend additional marathons this year unless it's in the L.A. metropolitan area (or basically anywhere from San Diego to Fresno). So sorry, but it looks like I'm a no go on this. :p It looks like you'll be getting a lot of people to go to Colorado, though. I'm sure it'll be fine as long as you keep in contact with people who have already set this stuff up and take their advice.
Waiting hurts my soul...
Is there anyone that could make the trip to Denver, but couldn't make it out to Los Angeles? So far it seems that the better place to have it would be LA based on the feedback thus far, but I'd like to know if anyone would be left out if we changed the location.

I couldn't attend LA.

That said, I certainly wouldn't feel hurt.  The decision to host it here was that I could do such a thing, and my thought was any marathon > no marathon.  If someone wants to put on an LA/SoCal marathon, you have my full support and effort.
Hmm.. I may see if I can make it to this one. Grin

Here's a list of games I can run:

Call of Duty
Call of Duty 2
Left 4 Dead 2 (This is a big maybe. If I did this one, I'd have to do lots of prepping.)
IWBTG (Glitched run. Yes, I am insane.)
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland
Kirby's Epic Yarn (Still a WIP. Should have a decent route by marathon.)

Sorry if this seems a bit premature, but there you go. Of course, I don't want to run all of these games, just the ones with the most interest. Tongue
LA meas no go for me, Denver's pushing it.
Willing to teach you the impossible
For me, I think I will do runs by request. Things I could run would be Contra, Super C, Double Dragon, 1080 Snowboarding, Mega Man X2. I am working on other games as well, so that list could go up by marathon time. We shall see. I don't have to run any game at all for me to go, it was just too fun just being there. All runs from me will be by request.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
I'll take this time to say that I do have interest in joining in a Summer session marathon, although I can't make a full guaranteeing right now if I can actually make it or not...  If so, I can make the can perform the following speed runs...

Crackdown 1-2
Prototype
MM: Powered Up
Basara Heroes

There is also DW games, but I don't know if anyone wants to see hack n slash games, although it would be unique...

After all, Fist of the north star and Gundam are two to consider, but as for any SW or DW, I need to get a PS2 to start working on those again...
Let the music play!
As someone who speedruns DW games, I'd like to see Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games get the marathon treatment - DW3 especially with the cheesy voice acting (which people can donate for to see those cutscenes).
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Hmm...  I wonder if people would actually go for it...  Hell if we could figure out how to do it, count me in...  Whether if it would be separate from this marathon planning or something on its own (Like thespeedgamers) then would jump on the bandwagon...

Either way, something to suggest as an idea for now...
Bwahahaha... there WILL be domination!
MAS8705: Well I have no personal objection to it, but it'd probably be an early-morning time-slot.  I'm also a DW3 runner, and I've been training for 2P with SJ at some later date, maybe, so I'm certainly biased towards it.

Heidman:  You haven't run 1080 at a marathon, so I think that wouldn't be a bad idea, just for something new, and because I've seen you turn out quality play on everything else, so I have no doubts of your ability.  Aside from that, I may ask more as we get closer to the deadline.

a time slot is a time slot... Seeing how Sotn, oot, Super mario 64, kingdom hearts and much more were don't in an early morning time slot, I have no problem if I would be scheduled for that time...

Just need to see how things are going to play out this semester and upcoming summer...

As for "Co-op" runs... might I suggest something that no one has probably thought of...  After all, it would be interesting to see if it is a possible to have full screen co-ops (the set up like the races, but each screen has someone's full screen...) A simple thought...
Fucking Weeaboo
The thing about multi-screen co-op is that there's a lot fewer games that do it then split-screen or one-screen co-op.  The idea of co-op games done quick is interesting, but at the same time could be sloppy even if both players know the game, because playing with a 2nd person can change the experience greatly.  Still would be fun though.
I'm really feeling the idea of a Kirby's Epic Yarn 2v2 race if we can get the people to go that can do it.
Willing to teach you the impossible
As for 1080, I have been working on an IL table, so I have the practice in already. I can produce a solid full run by then for sure. As we get closer, I will also offer more games I have been playing as of late.
Not a walrus
I would not be able to make it to an LA marathon for what it's worth. Also I feel like we might want to avoid too much game crossover with the recent Marathon except for something you would consider a staple (I'd say Contra or Super Metroid would fall into this category, for example).
Looking forward to watching this.. thumbsup

Gonna go ahead and request that a Castlevania SotN Richter speedrun be attempted Kiss
