(not expecting people to know whether they can or can't, but I figure getting started early as I can gives me more time to iron out more problems, and maybe get cheaper rates.)

Hidden Notes:

This marathon will not be specifically themed, but future side-marathons might be (Co-op Games Done Quick was an example talked about in chat).

May want to see about getting individual mics for people, so various inputs during games could be included in the final encode.

Cooking food saves money, and if I can make this more affordable for people...

Holy crap!

Is this your own thing, or is it an attempt to approach what Mike was possibly planning (a mini-marathon to shift the annual SDA marathon timeframe)?

EDIT: Btw, I'm very interested in attending. [Also, I'm not a tech person]

Honestly, I'm not sure. If it's a mini-marathon for those who can't normally attend the Winter Marathon for whatever reason (wrong coast, school/work schedule, etc.), then so be it. If Mike wants to make it THE marathon, I'm totally down for helping and being a part of it in whatever way I can.

Mike, at the moment, is swamped, so he can't put his mind toward this at all. I wanna see what I can get done, who can come, and see if I can make it happen.

If I'm "the local", then at least I don't have to pay travel fees!

If I can make it during that time, I'm slightly technical. I prefer not to be the only one though. Denver is still an 17 hour drive, so I'd probably not be able to make it. Taking the time off to make that kind of drive probably isn't probable. Getting the money for a flight would be the only problem for me.

Well, if you're in the US, try looking to see if Southwest Airlines flies out of your city. Using them to get to Denver would be cheaper then other airlines.

Don't know what I can do about a summer marathon, since I'm already taking time off for a few anime cons, including one in Denver already.

I know though the idea of having an online one (where we'd just kick around between people's streams) was kicked around a bit too. Just another option to look at (but not as fun, I'm sure).

27 Hour drive (3 day drive just to be safe, ~$350 in gas for both ways) or a round trip plane ride at ~$510... I can make it. Given I get the time off work that is.

Edit: Found a better plane price at ~$300. I am SO Going

Another option would be to drive, and pick some people up to carpool... depends on how many people are on the way.

Yeah, I asked Heidman about it in PM... it'd hurt him to need to take that much time off, he thinks, but he's willing if it helps enough and he's able.

Essentially, it comes down to what happens closer to the due date. That, and how many people are actually coming (your profile says LA, and I believe we have 3-4 people from TX as well, which could all be on the way, relatively.) I believe he lives in Georgia or some such.

Well Denver is certainly closer to me here in Southern Cali so I'd love to go, however getting the time off work during the middle of summer will be difficult considering I work at an amusement park.

I'm thinking this will be a four-day thing, 50 hour marathon + two days, one for setup and one for tear-down, probably on top of a weekend if schedules work the way I'm hoping.

Live-updates are awesome.

And yeah, the idea is that this one is all about making the marathon, and the SDA get-togethers, available to more people. Shorter marathon, on a weekend (probably a check-in-on-Thursday, leave late sunday/early monday ordeal), for the half of the country that isn't on the east coast.

I want to make this experience available to everyone, even if it's not as grand as the Mikefest/MAGfest, that doesn't mean it won't be awesome!

I'm really glad you're doing this, Aitamen. It's at least an extra opportunity for many of us, if nothing else. And personally, this will be far more feasible than ones around winter or in D.C. Still can't say for absolute certain yet, but there's a far higher chance I can attend than with the last couple marathons right from the start.

Google maps might be really useful here: I think Essentia is in ... Utah? She might want to be there.

Yeah, there's a cluster in Utah, iirc, who'd probably be able to drive over/carpool, if they have an interest. I know DarkwingDuck said he wanted to attend a marathon, and if this one's closer, hey~

Aitamen, I hope you know what you're getting yourself into here. Not trying to discourage you, but the setting up process for one of these things is A LOT of work. If the last two are any indication, though, so totally worth it.

As long as I'm posting, my showing for this is a decided unlikelihood. Best chance for me would be if it fell over Labor Day weekend (which is probably less than ideal for the school aged among us, and I think that's the majority), but even then it'd be far from a guarantee. AGDQ was iffy for me this year financially as is, and that was just a 4 hour drive. Add to that the fact I have a vacation planned this summer that'll probably wipe out my available vacation time and my attendance seems all the more unlikely. I'd definitely like to go, and once a date's set I'll seriously look into it, but I'm not really holding my breath on being able to make it happen. Definitely willing to help out before and during any way I can though.
