Btw, user-installation success rate is 50% so far.  From a sample size of 2 customers, so it's statistically meaningless (offered to repair it myself and never heard back, so I dunno what happened).  Not trying to scare people off from doing it themselves, since that's more work for me and I want to know how it goes for others.  Just wanted to be upfront about it, full disclosure and all that.  Thieves Like Us wrote up his experience in this thread a while back.

It looks like Loopy is back.
And Greenalink, congrats on having the first officially published, direct-feed Speedrun.

The PoR one isn't his.  The Chinatown Wars one, is.  It's just in needs verification right now.
that Metroidvania guy
Definitely PMing. Thanks for doing this!

and as I stated before, I've got a few ds systems which I would rate as "nice" (there may be a few scratches on the shells, but the displays and touch screens are like new.

I also have 2 systems which have been re-cased with the HK replacement shells. I'm not too fond of their quality but the shells look better than the battered and beaten systems that were broken which I have repaired.

if anyone wants a capture device from loopy but doesn't already own a "phat" ds system, I can provide both the system and installation for a total cost of 140usd plus shipping (the price includes the cost of the capture board from loopy as long as he has units to supply me with)
for an additional $10, I can supply you with an extra rear lower shell that has not been modified so that that you have the option of removing the modified lower shell and capture board and returning the system back one without the modification.

Yep.
I'm thinking about sending in an old DS "Phat" to loopy for this, but this thread's long and there's more than one where this sort of this is discussed, so it's hard to understand everything,
If this capture device mod is setup, do I still need computer equipment to record? I need to figure that sort of thing out first. How built in is everything? I'll try to learn about the project more.

I had a speedrun I started last year but never finished because it was too frustrating to setup the cameras and keeping my DS from moving and such every time.

You plug it into an empty USB slot on your computer. No extra equipment.

Actually, you put it into your PC, but needs to have at least Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 8.
I used to run Windows XP for this device, but it ran on 20 FPS, and the sound was unclear.
Now I run Windows 8, and it runs and records perfectly, except for the fact I liked the black borders in the old software, which worked exclusively on Windows XP.

Keep in mind the device YamiHoshi.nl is speaking of here is his "YH-NITRO-CAPTURE" device, which is not the same thing and runs different software.

Only video is output from USB, audio is still recorded from the headphone jack. I guess you could call an audio cable "extra equipment" if you'd like.

Ehm, "...her "YH-NITRO-CAPTURE" device...".
But I understand the confusion, as it's another person that contacts you through email, although he works for me too.

But the fun thing is, as long as the Line-In cable is in the DS's headphone jack, it still records sound without extra Apps.
yamihoshi.nl:
but isn't "your" capture device really loopy's?

it's kind of sad that you've taken what is his, slapped a new name on it and claimed it as your own hardware. simply tossing someone else's work into a box doesn't dictate that you own the intellectual rights. without loopy, you wouldn't own anything. please stop insinuating that what you own is of your design and give credit where credit is due.

Wait what?!
I didn't claim any rights on it.
I don't know how you deal in wherever you live, but in Europe, everything you bought, is yours.
Like in, Loopy made it, so it's his, and as soon as he sells it to you, it's yours, etc.
no, the point that I was making that you've gone so far as to create a website promoting something as your own
http://www.yhnitro.net/?page=index
this infers that you've created something that adds value to loopy's work (when all you did was toss everything into a box)

my intent wasn't to derail this thread, howver you've made far too many statements which have come off as "a matter of fact", when the truth of the matter
is that you really don't appear to have a grasp of the technical aspects of this project (let alone something as simple as the difference
between composite and component inputs) and when corrected by members of this forum, you simply shrug off their corrections as opinions.

I'm sorry that I brought it up at all, but now that I've said my peace, I'll shut up about the matter.

It looks like you didn't even click the "Original Maker" button.
What happens if you do that?
It wasn't made to transform the rights of the product, it was made to simply with the hope I wouldn't see YouTube comments like "herp derp, is dis an emulator" any more.

Alright, so I'm having an issue with my board (BTW talk about awesome, I buy it yesterday and it's already in my mailbox today? Amazing~)

I believe it's the USB cable and not the board itself, since the video on my DS is perfectly fine, but my video is glitching up.. my little brother will play games and it won't be funky, and then I put in a game and it screws up :I dunno what's going on there. I might get a sample later

Edit:

Bump and edit: Ok it turns out it was the USB thing. I hadn't used the adhesive to keep it stabilized in the DS. after much hard work and dedication (on top of me thinking I fucked my DS up cause the cable now has kinks in it and the top screen wasn't working for a while, simply due to me not having the connector in all the way...) I have fixed it, and this device is 100% top tier.
a few other things to make sure that you don't accidentally launch the capture software more than once (it doesn't have a check to prevent from running more than one instance) and that you're not running something with is processor intensive while running the capture software.

Ah, yep. that's my problem, high CPU usage... Xsplit.
Which is a shame cause now I can't really find a way to stream it without it having huge hiccups like that :c

Edit: I figured out how to stream it with any (major) hiccups :3
I just went to task manager and gave the DS capture highest priority, seems to work like a charm

I just got everything installed fine, though I tried to do the USB power mod, but couldn't get my soldering to work, so I decided to quit while I was still ahead.

if you've not soldered before, I would suggest looking up some tutorials and practicing on a piece of broken or otherwise old equipment that you don't potentially ruining.

the key to remember is that you need to heat up the contact and component that you are attempting to solder and add the solder to that bridge. heating up the solder (other than to tin the tip of your soldering iron) will just produce either a cold ball of solder that doesn't stick to anything or a cold solder joint. excessive and prolonged heating is just if not worse, because chances are that you will cause the copper pads on the motherboard to lift, ruining the area that you're attempting to solder.

there are plenty of great tutorials on youtube to see what and how to do it, however it's practice, practice, practice that will allow you to achieve your desired results. Smiley

The device worked really well for AGDQ2012.  Thanks for having it done in time for the marathon!

I'm fairly proficient at soldering, but in this case, I was just too impatient to spend the time soldering to the incredibly small micro usb connector (I was actually going to tap a via like I had done with an xbox360 controller I had modded previously). Now that I have everything put together and working in order, I just cant be bothered to open the DS back up.
