I'm able to tie your TAS of this stage with my strat, and getting caught on the stairs...meaning if a perfect stair jump is executed, it's beatable.

Nice, I get the idea on the underground section as it doesn't require a backtrack to get the mushroom.
Too bad I can't do the first segment again, too many consistency issues such as:

* Score
* Number of lives
* Objects positions on the world map (Red ? Box and Hammer Bros)
* Number of coins
* Current form (Small, Super, Fire, Shell or Mini).

Does SDA care about score/lives/coins?  Is it really unfeasible to redo that one?  I can see the point on the red box though.
DS Dictator
It's only a second or more difference if your 1-1 strat beats mine and I rather prefer to have my runs with no inconsistencies.

Another thing to remember is the delay of the objects moving after completing a level, that alone can save a bit more time than a run with 0.5-> 1 second of mistakes with longer delays from the objects.

I've just completed Segment 33 and I lost around 2 -> 3 seconds on each level but both of them are very hard to speed run & I've also managed to do the insane wall jump trick on 6-2 (on the 2nd attempt though Sad but when I get the star, the water will be lowered sooner so I'll basically catch up).

6-Tower 1 has some damage invulnerablity abuse in some areas and messing it up means I would have to wait til the spike pillars will go away. It did at one point (causing the 2 seconds lost) but I caught up with some risky tricks like a quick 2nd star coin and 2 wall jumps to the Pipe for coin 3.

So overall the segment can be improved but it's very tough to achieve, I don't have the patience to do it again, it took me nearly an hour of attmepts to clear 6-2 with a fast time.

Lastly if Segment 34 doesn't end with an object on 6-5 (the water course), I can get a shell from 6-B (the ice level) via roulette block.
Back in the game!
Does that mean that you just don't care about any time savings I can find, or just want the focus on the later levels?

just don't care about any time savings I can find,

I've been playing this game for 3 years and I've been noting down lots of speed tricks such as using a ground pound to land on a higher platform (that you can go through) and quicker way to turn around.

There were some slow downs on both levels for safety reasons (getting hit and re-collecting a power up does cost time) and taking damage were more effective at certain spots.

If the this run gets published it would be cool to see the 2nd published run to have even more discoveries (like how Twilight Princess was 5h 30m way down to under 4 hours).

The later levels will be tough (World 6 and 7 do contain some very tough 'speed running' levels) but World 8 will seem to be easy thanks to the linear level design.

Yes, they do. Redoing early segments is permitted only if there's no break so to a person who knows the game perfectly it'll still look like one continuous session (albeit there are saves in a segmented run of course). Exceptions are done only under few circumstances (e.g. in a Diablo 2 run where the runner noticed at the end that he had loaded the wrong savegame in the middle of the run and thus had to redo a few segments to make the figures either match or even gain better figures so it doesn't look like that (unintended) break could be beneficial).

Oh.  I figured it just applied to things that actually mattered, like limited ammo or whatever.

Why someone would want to steal videos is beyond me, well they all got a 1 star from me anyways.

I'm glad that I didn't erased by copied file (that is the segment which contains 6-2 and 6-Tower1).
I've found a reliable method of sucessfully performing the tough trick on 6-2 now Cheesy and a faster, more reliable strat on 6-Tower1.

Segment 34 won't be too hard and Segment 35 will either have an hammer bro on either 6-5 (water level) or 6-B (ice level) to obatin the shell to speed up 6-5.

Segment 36 will have a tough time saver on 6-6 and a tough strat on 6-Castle. It will be the first time I'll use a Giant Shroom because without it it's actually not possible to defeat it in 1 cycle Sad (yeah hitting it with Fireballs will interupt and go inside his tank in a rampage).

The fastest 'unofficial' time with Cannon warps, single segment is done by chronorox in 23:55.
I'm currently producing the 100% segmented run and I'm roughly 8-9 segments away from completion I was predicting a sub 2h 15m run but it might end up longer than I've predicted and it might finish around sub 2h 45 minutes!! (Segment 37 has a auto scroller & World 8 is linear and pretty long too).

I haven't posted Final copies of my speed run yet. However if you go to my Youtube Channel
www.youtube.com/greenalink you'll be able to find 2 segments that are 'obsoleted' (my final/publish run is faster than the videos posted on my Youtube channel so far).

Just done the ridiculous segment 37. It has some mistakes like getting hit but not getting hit is near impossible on this Segment alone.
It's also over 10 minutes long this segment (nearly as long as Super Mario World 11 exit run :o).

This is level 7-6 (an absolute ass, especially it comes in the late part of the segment making optimisation harder as I only got 1 Save point in world 7 to save up for Completing 7-Castle with that damn 3rd coin).

My performance was like this:
7-5, Very good attempt took damage nearby the first twin missile tower so that it's easier for me to go pass the Bullet Bill so that I can jump on it for my first star coin

7-A After the Megashroom in 7-5, I became Super Mario again by default. There is one part I waited for safety reasons because taking damage means I can't do a good time saver on this level after the 2nd star coin, otherwise a very good attempt.

7-4 (Alt exit) A very good attempt.

7-5 (Main exit and the 2nd star coin) was a bit cautious as I was Mini Luigi (1 hit = death). There's a mini pipe that only mini plumbers can enter. Another Megashroom inside so I became Super Luigi when I exit the secret room. I did the cautious speed strat and unfortunately got hit by the Massive Banzai bill.
Not bad attempt up to 4 ingame seconds can be saved.

7-6 So as Normal Luigi, I had to pick up a Mushroom to break a certain block for one of the star coins and and did not took damage at all. There was a small error when hitting the vine block but overall up to 2 ingame seconds can be saved.

7-7 An Auto scrolling level.... no mistakes at all (no duh a good stage to fully power up for the tougher 7-6 attempt)

7-6. After doing 7-7 I felt a bit nervous since I was used to the strat that involves getting the first power up. But since I'm fully prepared (Fire Luigi with Fire Flower on reserve), I had to perform the alt strat. Unfortunately I took 2 hits before the check point and so I had to use my reserve. Luckily it landed right next to me when I was getting the 2nd star coin. Then everything went well until after passing the 3rd star coin and the koopas. I took another hit but to be honest there was a unreliable strat that involvse panning the camera so it wasn't too bad.

Overall: it wasn't the perfect run but I dare you to play all of these level on the DSi stuck onto a table and that turns the difficulty up to 11! It's good and I hope the viewers will understand how difficult this level is.

An perfect optimised run would be around 10 seconds faster but that's not going to happen with the complex time savers in the early stages followed by insane amount of Koopas in 7 f&&&ing 6.

Edit:

I might re do this again, only this time I'll:

Use the Bob-omb for the first star coin on 7-5 and try and do 7-6 twice in a row.

Edit 2:

Just done segment 37 again and it's a whopping 10 seconds faster overall yay :D.
Thanks to better gameplay performance (more tricks, only got hit twice and finished with Fire Luigi with Fire Flower in reserve) and better luck (I think it was only 1 '4 second' delay from the hammer bro). I feel much happier now with this segment as I'm fully equipped in segment 38.

I'll post the old version onto Youtube soon.

One question... have any of you gamers managed to Kill Lakithunder in 1 cycle without a Megashroom?
I know you are, but what am I?
I haven't, but I'll try.

UPDATE:
Actually, it turns out that I have, but with the moonjump code (and fire flower)
END OF UPDATE

Also, sorry to be a bother, but I don't like swearing. I'll put up with it though. Grin

I've seen the videos on youtube now, and it turns out you're better than me! Shocked(that wasn't an update)

I think segment 45 will DEFINATLY be the easiest.

Why did I say that?

I've seen the video already a long time ago before you made your account.
It's not going to be really useful for an 100% strat as it requires a detour in the Thwomp room (not the giant one, the one that has the very precise jumps to speed through.).

Good news:
* I know a reliable way to get the 3rd coin now on 7-Castle (the near suicide jump)
* It's possible to kill Lakithunder during his first dive without needing a Mega Shroom.
* This boss always dive in first so he doesn't require any luck unlike the 3rd boss.

I just need to practise and get it to work all of the time.
Then I'll be in World 8 and it's pretty straight forward from there.
I know you are, but what am I?

Yeah, he ignored the star coins but at least it has a strat for Bowser+Bowser Jr. right?
Or maybe you already knew that method?
