Now that I have to try. That means we'll have to rearrange our upgrade path ever so slightly.
Wow! What an awesome skip. That'd shave off like 15 min off the hard run. Although I don't think that elevator route saves any time, esp if you have to zoom in like that. Might as well run the extra 10 meters and just grapnel up.

The elevator skip is super easy, just make sure the camera is pointed in the right direction and mash the grapple key. You don't even have to stop running to get it every time. I think the reason he zoomed in was to show exactly where you want to point the camera and where the actual grapple point is.
Ahh I see.

I still can't get over that bell skip. That takes away arguably the hardest part of the game to speed run in scarecrow 2, and also that crazy 12 man fight just before finding Dr Young's notes.

Hey guys I found a way to pass the sewer pump predator room without killing or alerting anybody. Do you think it saves any time? I imagine it doesnt save much on easy but not sure about hard

That definitely saves time. Beats my hard run by about 25 seconds. That's awesome. Is that as far away as you can get even with the range upgrade?
Arkham Speedrunner
I think it is because it can be tricky to get it to lock on. So it seems like it. Btw is there anywhere we can view your hard mode run? I'd love to see it Smiley
Should be on SDA soon. I can post it on youtube though in the meantime. It's funny, I just watched the end of your speed run on twitch and with all your skips you come within a minute of my record. I like your skip here too,

This might have been what RoboSparkle meant to paste.

really? I thought the hard mode WR was 2:03:xx. I came within a minute of it? Thats crazy because the run had like 6 deaths in it.

Thanks
Nah the record is 2:08:23

Oh wow so if i didnt die i might have been able to beat it. Cant wait to see your predator room strats for hard because right now i just try and adapt the easy strats and wing it

Does the upgrade pattern differ from easy mode - hard mode?
The Dork Knight himself.
The upgrade path doesn't stray too far away from Easy when playing on Hard, but with all of the tricks that you guys have recently come up with the upgrades will definitely have to be rethought. The biggest changes are normally from the Predator rooms. You *can* get the Easy strats to work but the consistency isn't there for a SS, and any tiny mistakes or randomness to the AI is almost always an instant restart/death.

Also, one of the things we found in Hard mode runs (esp now one of the upgrade points goes to remote batarangs) is that it's probably better to get combo batarangs instead of crits, since almost all takedowns are now ground pounds, and once you get the batarang power upgrade (very necessary for titans/ivy) and triple rangs you can easily chain multiple ground takedowns.

Quote from DarthKnight:
Nah the record is 2:08:23

My bad, I've been quoting your hard time record as 2:03 - I think I was thinking of your City run.  Either way, obsoleting that won't be easy as whether I was running or verifying I wouldn't plan to accept any run where the rest of the gameplay wasn't at least to the standard of your run when you can easily WR with 5-6 deaths.

Also also, you two (and anyone else interested!) needs to check out #Batman on SRL IRC because races happen from there and we'd love for you to join Smiley

Also also also, I can't remember if Scarecrow 1 has been discussed, but I have a consistent method for doing this very quickly (took me two  goes yesterday because I suck at execution but I have got this 3 times on the trot before) http://www.twitch./robo_sparkle/c/3266381

Final Edit (please someone else post something!)  I've just realised I still had Darthknight's submission run on my laptop.  He exits the main hall in the mansion at 47:14 and cuts the bell at 59:17.  So the skip saves 12:03 minus however long it takes to grapnel up to the vent and batarang the rope (i.e. about 11:30 saving if you get it first time).  It will save marginally less on easy because of the couple of fights that happen in the meantime.

Speaking of predator rooms, i found a strat for the second predator room in the gardens, maybe a littler faster then the current easy mode one, i dunno.

Hello all, first time posting on the SDA forums, known about the website for years but never adventured this far in.

I have to say that I am a little surprised that no one found a way to cut the bell early before now, all I did was test the cracks in the wood for a gap and even then did not know if the rope would have the hit box loaded.

If the cogs had hit boxes it would be twice as bad as it is now, thankfully you can fly through them without a problem.

I spent a few hours going around from the first titan battle up to croc trying things out with the remote batarang, you can hit harley quinn in her boss fight with some amazing flying but she does nothing, same with her gas room puzzle there is nothing on her saying a batarang will hurt her in any way. Her hair is still springy though and the batarang can get caught in her skirt thumbsup

I know what you mean about the early bell but that's the beauty of speedrunning is there is always new stuff to be found.  I never find any proper glitches or tricks (unless you count the Bat-flap), mainly because I'm so bad at it but also because I would have tried the bell skip and come to the conclusion that you can't get a batarang through there - if you miss but the batarang goes a little bit through the gap then it looks EXACTLY like when a Batarang goes out of range in City and I would have reached the conclusion that there's a trigger there.

Massive props for the discovery, Diablo, and glad you're still checking. (although I'm starting to wonder if I should be concerned about WHAT you're checking with Harley...) Wink
Arkham speed runner.
There are some gaps where the developers put an OOB barrier up so you lose control of the batarang which is a shame, I also tried to get into the bat cave early but no matter how many rocks you crawl along, OOB barriers everywhere.

I was hoping with harley that a batarang would hit her and count as a defeat in her boss brawl, you can throw the remote straight at the start, bowl through the thugs coming at you and past them all the way to harley, but no go.

But if you can bowl through the thugs, maybe it's useful in combat?  Not with the first wave because you can gel those, but the second wave possibly?

I tried an early Bat-Cave myself, but the problem isn't that you can't glide there, the problem is that it's by cut-scene trigger only.  If you go to the same spot later in the game then the same cut-scene plays and you go in through the first entrance to the Bat-Cave
Arkham speed runner.
I find the remote too slow to use in combat, I tried it where possible from the first titan onwards and found no real use in combat situations.

The only other skips I can think would work are destroying breakable walls early to get to trigger points in zones before you should be able too, the only real way of knowing would be to mod the pc version so you can move batman past a wall then play like normal, if that works it's a case of figuring out how to do it normally, but it's a long shot.
The Dork Knight himself.
The only problem I can see with that is even if you can skip certain areas by clipping through doors or blowing up walls early is if you skip up an upgrade that you get via the story (batclaw, line launcher, etc) then you're stuck without that upgrade permanently. The game doesn't give it to you even if you save/reload and the story continues. Found that out when I managed to get out of the twin titan room without the launcher, got stuck with no way out of the botanical gardens.
Magical. Flying. Bathtub
Really? I did not know that.  Shame really considering that in Arkham City if you skip the Line Launcher then the game gives it to you in the next area anyway!
The Dork Knight himself.
Well I'm not going to 100% guarantee it, but when I tried skipping the line launcher the game flat out refused to give it to me even when I got back out to the electrified water. Maybe if the core story was updated the weapon would be given (i.e. when your main objective is changed) but the small area has no real loading zones, and a save/quit/reload didn't even give me the launcher.
trepidation
That bell skip is fantastic. Those are the types of breaks that keep me constantly checking up on SDA.
Magical. Flying. Bathtub
It's the new area transfer that gives it to you in City.  The only cutscene trigger in asylum would be Ivy, so if you can get over that ravine w/o Line Launcher that's a possibility (and if you can do that do you need to even fight the titans?)
the bell skip is fantastic.  skipping bruce boy is huge.

i'm also kinda surprised no one knew about the predator skip in the sewer pump, i'd actually known about it for a while and thought it odd players did the predator room on runs i saw on srl.  guess i should have said something.
