I've only played the first difficulty, but I've noticed that most of the time, if I don't bother attacking them, I can pull FAR ahead and they never catch up. Is this simply not the case at all in harder difficulties?

EDIT: Okay, medium is freakin' impossible apparently. Does Snake just suck or something?
Snake sucks hard the first 2 planets. You've got to know what you're doing.

If Snake is better then Jake, I'm not sure. I've also managed to get 3:14:42 with Tarquinn, but I raced way more races then I did with Snake. (I found out at the end I saved too much money, meaning I did too much races).
I also screwed up less races with Snake, not sure. But I can't really know if only that explains the time difference. (the rest being first)
I'm actually beginning to doubt if snake is the right man, because the beginning is hard, but the moment you get the Battle Track it really doesn't matter that much anymore I think.

It's been very hard to figure out which one is better. I also have no idea how the +1 system really works and if it still has effect if you max upgraded your vehicle. So really, I'm still not sure if Snake Sanders is the better choice, but I do know he's harder to handle in the beginning atleast. Maybe should try the same strat with Jake that I used on Snake to see if there's a really big difference, but I'm going to take a small brake atm Wink Tongue

I should (try to) record the races so you could time each race seperatly, that way it would be way easier to compare.

[pre-edit] Ok I just read through the rules part (again) and noticed this:
"-Currently, the 'endpoint' for playthroughs would be considered the final race on Inferno, the sixth (and final, I think) endpoint."
I just stopped timing the moment I could buy myself out of Div A on Inferno (that's 8 races if you always finish first) and then comes the end movie + credits. But I am assuming Metal Dream did the same.
Never give up!

I've gone and re-worded it a little to point this out.

I'll also probably be one of the people that posts a time on Sunday just for the sake of making it known that I attempted to participate.  I probably won't really make it farther than some race in Chem VI, I'd think, even though I WILL attempt to at least get to the third planet.

It's not Sunday, but this is basically what this is.

2:24:57 - Breakdown - Planet 5 Division B - Tarquinn

I know I could get to that point faster, but I wasn't really strategizing at all, just racing and buying stuff.  No improvement coming though.  I'm done with this game, and saying that makes me happy.  It can go die in a fire, well at least Warrior difficulty.

EDIT:  Though I must admit, something about the 16-bit rendition of Radar Love just sounds so right.
Talk to the Hand
Random aside: Perhaps moreso than any other game, this was the one that demonstrated to me just how superior the SNES sound hardware was to the Genesis's. I'd probably laugh at how it sounds now, but I remember at the time of its release thinking "Holy crap, that almost sounds like real guitars!" as regards the SNES version.
A winner is you!
Well my 3rd and 4th run were failures...I tried to go with Snake but I like Jake better. I like how you lose less speed when you negotiate bumps and I like to be able to make sharp turns early to save some time. You don't have to go for an extra set of shocks or tires.

My 5th run is the best so far

3:07:26 - Metal Dream - All - Jake Badlands

I got fortunate with 3 lapping bonuses during the run and better placing with the mines. Like you said ZaibirQuild, you want to place them in turns or up a hill. In the SNES version, the cars would actually fly up and fall down the track if they come in a mined turn full speed. It seems it doesn't happen at all in this version or if it does, it way less than the SNES version.

In the ice levels, did you find you had to decelerate to make some of the jumps? Because I had to decelerate to make some of the jumps.

Yeah I know what jumps you mean...I just keep my nitro(s) for those parts. Use the nitro when you land on that little platform between the 2 jumps. If you don't have a nitro at those jumps, you've pretty much screwed your race, unless you have a big lead on the others  Undecided

Remember when I said I was going to put a time up on Sunday?

0:02:34 - AquaTiger - Chem VI Division B race 1 - Snake Sanders

I am DONE with this game.  I despise whatever numbskulls picked it.

Those of you looking for free points in the standings have until noon on Monday to post your times (I've actually done faster than this, but right now, I don't even care - ANY of you can go faster than what I listed).
My feelings on The Demon Rush
I have no idea how you are supposed to get through Chem VI without fluking a ton.

Also, I used to play this game a lot during my childhood and I thought it was great. THANKS A LOT GUYS FOR TAKING A GIANT CLEVELAND STEAMER ON MY CHILDHOOD.

I'm still wondering why we're not playing Biker Mice from Mars, much better game.
Jumping Turtle
Is that the third planet or something Aquatiger? I've been playing for 2.5 hours or so and I'm only like half through A division on the second planet. I had to restart a division like three times. >_<

My feelings on The Demon Rush
I now have the announcer burned into my head after playing for an hour and a half last night. It's not fun to wake up to "RIP TAKES A FIRST PLACE KNOCKOUT!"

EDIT: Played a bit of warrior. I got first in every race without trying very hard. It was kind of boring though, I guess this is one of those games I shouldn't have touched since childhood. :-/
Never give up!

Chem VI is the first planet.  I believe the order is something like Chem VI, Drakonis, Bogmire, New Mojave, NHO, then finally Inferno.
Never give up!
Okay, Week 2's game has begun, but if you still haven't submitted for Week 1's game you still have a chance.

Until I announce the first week's competition as closed, you can submit for either that game OR the week 2 game.

I'll be posting reminders of this any time the situation is applicable.

Week 1 submission is officially closed.  Results and leaderboard on page 1.

Get to work on Week 2's game Magical Pop'n, people!

Holy crap, this game is pretty cool, especially for being so unheard of. Indeed this game deserves a speedrun. Good call on this one, guys. So far I'm at level 3. My stream kind of makes it skip frames so if I take this competition more seriously I might not stream it, but even then, it's a really fun game.

My biggest gripe (though there aren't many) is that there are a bunch of upgrades to collect and sometimes it seems you can't go back for them if they're skipped. These first couple playthroughs may take days because of those. :^\

This game is awesome, it's going to be a fun week.

43:52 - Breakdown - ALL

Two deaths and a bunch of costly mistakes.  This can still come down several minutes easy.

EDIT:  Like so.

40:56 - Breakdown - ALL

One death in this one in the third to last room.  Still plenty of room for improvement.

Dude, has anyone figured out if there's a heart in the last level? I only got a max of 8. Not that it's necessary, but it may matter for 100% (all chests I imagine, I missed one in the third level that I can see in plain sight and just can't reach).

46:22 45:46 - JaggerG - ALL

No deaths I believe. O_o not much of an improvement, considering.

EDIT: see my next post on the next page.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
An awesome tourney would have been non-winners from the last tourney. Wink

I'm busy this week too (and probably in the future) but I promise to play Pop'n since it's a great game. I wanted to play last week but couldn't find the time, sorry. Sad

BTW: the mid-boss song for this game fucking rules and sidwell should remix it.
50:13 - ZaibirQuild - Stage 6, untill I met some boss that flew around and I was too stupid to figure out how to hit him.

Also discovered during that battle that select actually uses a special power xD.
I wasted atleast 10 min. in walking the wrong way and/or picking up those golden heads.
(yes that's my first time I played the game.)
Don't know if I'm going to try and improve it or not. Not that much free time left.
destroy them with lazers
53:15 - X - ALL  Not bad but it was only my first real attempt through. I'll have another go at it tonight.
      GOD DAM GRAPPLING HOOK!

Hahaha, those times only make me feel crappy at speedrunning. It took me hours to get through the first time, because I hunted for all the chests, intentionally taking the opposite direction I'm supposed to. My first real attempt still backtracked for chests. I had over an hour. That grappling hook sentiment is definitely agreed upon.

I should have had a 44 last night but I had one more hit to go on the final boss, then got a game over. It's not even that hard a boss. >_<

Also, about timing, should it be stopped at the last hit? I think you can still die from the rings of fire after the last hit, so it may not count.

EDIT: 41:32 - JaggerG - ALL

I died a couple times I think, but had a pretty good run. I also hate that timed blue-orb/moving spikes puzzle. There's a neat trick to go straight from the button to the door and I never get it on the first couple tries. >_<

EDIT EDIT: Hells yes, I finally topped Break's time!
39:48 - JaggerG - All

Um, see my next post again. >_>
Maybe I'll have some spare time tomorrow, where I can try and complete the game.

Anyone can give me some info on how to beat this stage 6 boss (is stage 6 the last stage btw?)

There are 2 round grapling points where you can swing from and you can stand on something (no idea what).
The guy has a reddish clothes IIRC and if you hit him he get's all this electricity around him. I tried hitting him with every special move I think. He only just flew away everytime I tried to hit him. Do I just need to use the normal sword and try to get in closer or something?

Thanks for the help, if anyone even knows what I'm talking about :P.
Biggest pain in the ass I found was the part where you needed to grapling hook within a certain time to reach the door before it closes(ice level).
Haters gonna hate
Just sit back a bit so he doesn't fly around and wait for him to attack, when he does hit him with the grappling hook.  It's tedious, but it's the only way to kill him to the best of my knowledge.
