I'm currently making example splits to show what a hypothetical single segment run would look like with splits. It's going well so far.

Looks like Glass Hammers will have to do. Even though they are RNG hell, their strength sort of makes up for it. Flame Hammer DX also sounds like a good deal. Might be even better if it works on bosses.

So i guess our only options are to rely on Glass and Flame DX Hammers before Neo Castle, and then get Star Hammers when we get to the castle itself after Zeekock and his shitty gyro controls.

I doubt anyone besides us will attempt single segment runs, unless something crazy like Ultibed skip is found that lowers the run time significantly, plus our optimization and item routing may decrease the times even more. Who knows.

Seriously, i fucking hate those gyro controls.
Oh

Haha, yeah. I'm sticking to segmented for a long time too honestly. Rather build up to that 10000 step mark over the course of a day than start my days with a 90-minute walk until I'm REALLY sure I know what I'm doing.

Segmented is the way to go, i think. I'm done with those example splits and i'll link them in a sec.
EDIT: here they are.... http://imgur.com/LKtJ6ac

I might be fucking insane enough to do a single segment run one day as a joke, but i'm sticking to segmented for now.
With the bonus, is the Birthday Hammer worth getting?  You can get it pretty early on.
Oh
Oh right, that. Well... probably, as long as you can convince your system it's constantly your birthday. Seems kind of cheap, though, even if it's more along the lines of lying than full-blown cheating.

In other news, the Jetboard Bash pieces are farther apart than I remembered. I'm considering passing up either that or Bomb Derby, and I'm kind of leaning towards that.
If the pieces are too far apart for us to get them in a single bound, skip jet board bash. Simple as that. Bomb Derby is too useful to be passed up in favor of that.
Oh
It's official: Trying to do a serious single-segment run is insanity.

I'm pretty sure there are 36 different possible effects that a Secret Box can produce. If that phrase or number sounds familiar, you already know what those effects are. And that means all sorts of interesting strategies (and an even heavier emphasis on hoping.)

I haven't actually verified this, and nobody else has even mentioned a possible connection as far as I know, but I've seen Secret Boxes do a lot of the exact same things that badge combos can do: the usual healing effects, dealing 100 damage to every foe, giving out random status effects, keeping the bros from fainting for a few turns, damaging everyone, the works. I've even seen reports of them stopping time or giving everybody a chance to die instantly. Badges themselves won't become redundant since the Secret Boxes spend a valuable turn in the process, but fully charged badge effects whenever you want them are, well, useful.

It's too bad, really. The game itself is hardly even luck-based- it's just that all of the most powerful things are. Glass Hammers, Risk Badges, and now Secret Boxes.
Okay, so i finally got my ass up and started a run yesterday. Please bear in mind that i am not retarded to attempt a single segment.

Well, the first segment of the run went extremely well. I saved at the first save block in the Dozing Sands dreampoint and the game clocked in at 1:59, so that's nice.
Bridge clip went unrealistically well. Like, EXTREMELY well. I got the clip in like 10-ish seconds if that. Bridge clip doesn't usually cooperate that well. (in fact, it's seemingly random nature makes me think it's actually RNG)

Dozing Sands skip took a while but thanks to the good ol' thing known as "save 'n' reset", i was able to get it consistently after a minute or so of trying. It's actually not that hard.

Also, i did a casual playthrough to re-learn the route and stuff, and Dreamy Somnom is surprisingly smaller and less annoying than i thought/remembered.
I also reccomend saving before Giant Zeekeeper just in case the gyro controls fuck you over.

New but sadly useless skip
CHOKES
I believe that one was known (maybe not posted here, as it happens with seemingly useless glitches). I remember thinking that finding a way to the left one instead would be better (though I don't remember why now, I don't remember the map layout).
The guy that made the video said it could be a theoretical way to skip Spin Jump, though that may do more harm than good.
Also, i'm planning on doing a no joke, serious motherfucking single segment attempt on the 27th. Get ready, because it's gonna take a boatload of coffee, pizza and WR hunger to keep me awake. Wish me luck, fellas.
Also, the method for clipping into Walls with the Spin Jump move may lead to some interesting tricks in Neo Bowser Castle and Somnom Woods, since those areas have holes with lava in them that are used to clip into walls (i assume). I'll keep looking later today.
Okay, so i found a "softlock" in Mushrise. Basically, if i don't enter a certain area of the map from the right side, the Toad ends up never giving me the 10th attack piece which makes me get stuck and unable to get Red Shells for the item route, which makes us unable to get any Bros Attacks later on. Just pointing that out for anyone that wants to plan runs.
I find many useless Glitches!
Hey everyone.
I started my Dream Team today and I was in my best Element.
I randomly walked around and found something that might be interesting on other places.
The clip you see in the Video is pretty much useless (I think), but maybe there is some other point where that works.
So if someone doesn't know what to do, you can search around if that might be useful somewhere else.

I find many useless Glitches!

Just showing you can get back, you're damn crazy Fretzi, a sequence break just like that? Now find more and we can get this game to XDGQ :O

Let's call this "Wrong Side of the Tracks Skip" Kappa

E: Anwonu found an easier way to do the second clip, instead of 360 just walk south a bit more and against the pillar.

Oh and yea, pls make a better video, made this in a hurry and I don't have a cap card.

So yea, we did it finally.

Shoutouts to Fretzi for showing the spin mario method to clip easily and Anwonu for telling it might work without it too.

Sadly doesn't work like Paper Mario and skip to ultibed gather afaik. Needs testing.
Will this fuck up any flags? Are you sure you can complete the game in this state?
I just found it, so I'm not sure.

This one doesn't sound like it would, but if it does, it's still useful for skipping the rock breaking part.
And getting OoB without spin is so annoying, I think it's better to get it only after you already have the Ultibed quest active anyway =p (or at least with golden pipes active)

So, PPL found about a way to make the game think you're still in a cutscene while moving around with Mario only. This means Mario will clip through a few things, like blocks (they will be hit, but you'll go through them) and NPCs.
Basically, after going to the Ultibed part area early then go back, you'll trigger the guy saying you can't pass while changing screens. This will make Mario still controllable while the guy talks. If you can move Mario to another screen, he'll be with the "cs storage" (no "official" name given yet).
Note that after his 1st textbox, there'll be a force attracting you to the cutscene area. You want to fight it. You can control after getting to the cs area, but the storage won't work, you'll just be separated from Luigi.

Unfortunately, it led to nothing very useful yet. Driftwood Shore isn't accessible, as the guys blocking it will be impassable for some reason. Also, since Luigi is left behind, any cutscene where it makes Luigi move will softlock, since he'll never get in the right position.
PPL found a cutscene where they give Luigi back, but the storage is gone.
Also, it seems that entering a battle will make you lose the storage as well.
If you change areas, you'll be able to save anywhere again. Saving doesn't fix it. (I tested on 1.0 version, if it matters.)

As for myself, I found something that might be useful. Not related to the storage, but can be if you want.
After doing the clip before Grobot, get the Ultibed part then go back, then finish the cs while Mario is to the right area. Luigi will follow Mario then the camera later. From there, jump over the plants and then go to the bed. Since after Dream's Deep you'll be taken back to the gate, I believe it won't have any problems (besides less exp at this moment).
Alternatively, you can do the storage, then go back, go through the rocks and jump over the left plants. This will avoid Grobot's battle, and Luigi will actually clip through the floor to lay on the bed =p (just the first time though, any other time he'll be stuck)
Unfortunately, it seems you'll lose storage with this.
I might upload videos to both storage and Grobot skip later, if no one else does before.

Edit: The badge guy is a big troll. Since it's a cutscene, one would expect it'd softlock with Mario only. But you can actually advance quite a bit of the conversation. Until the moment he says it's for free, it goes fine. But once Mario and Luigi jumps, it softlocks.

ok, so here is the Somnom Tracks Skip in complete.

I find many useless Glitches!
This one would need early Spin Jump and Drill to work in a run.

HOLY HOT DAMNED I LOVE YOU

Seriously though, these discoveries are amazing. THANK YOOOOOOOOUUUUUU
