My feelings on The Demon Rush

Okay I have lot to answer because I haven't posted in this topic for a while.

AndrewG: Where were you in the planning topic? :-/

Anyway, I know I answered most of this in IRC, but I'll post it here so everyone knows.

What you did: Everything but Rush 'n Attack and F-Zero looks good to me

Your Girlfriend: Sorry, I can't allow those. Maybe she could do the flyswatter game if we need a game while another is being set up.

Manage: Maybe Donkey Kong and Excitebike because they're so short. Super Mario 64 and Mega Man 2 would be great. lol at even suggesting Yo Noid! Roll Eyes

Arrow: I'd say go with Mario Galaxy 2, because it's newer.

Satoryu: I'm honestly on the verge of cutting X6 simply because the schedule is tight enough as is.

ktwo: hmmm, you might have to up your donation a bit depending on the length, maybe 15 or 20 dollars. I'll have to check with feasel to see how long a warpless run would be.

sinister1: I figured you were going to run MTPO, since you did submit a run for SDA. Also, andrewg's ass belong's to Super Macho Man, didn't you see the marathon video? Tongue

Also belongs to Super Nacho Man, but that's a different story. Cheesy

neskamikaze: That's fine. Arranging your games shouldn't be difficult because most of them are short anyway.

The list of games I'm going to cut

If I don't hear any good reasons not to cut these games by Wednesday, I'm going to cut them.

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs - Sorry PJ, but I can't see this game making the cut.
Castlevania: Bloodlines - I love this game, but it's just not popular enough. :-/
Cool Spot or Thexder Neo - They're both short, but I can't allow both. Pick one MatrixTN. Also, do you have a video of Thexder Neo speedrun play?
Descent - Honestly this game has mostly been forgotten, and I haven't heard anything about it since lag.com offered to play it for the marathon.
Kirby's Epic Yarn - It's not even out yet, and we have enough new games already.
Mega Man X6 - I have a hard time justifying this game, especially since Satoryu has never run it single-segment.
Metal Storm - It's short and a great game, but the two people interested in the game will already be at the marathon (me and carc)
Metroid Zero Mission - Kind of controversial, but we did this last year, it's not the most popular Metroid, and Biospark already has Fusion.
Spyro 2 - I don't even know how long this will be, and again, I haven't heard lag.com say anything since he offered to play it.
Streets of Rage - Jab Jab, wait a bit for 30 minutes.
Super Mario Galaxy 1 - If we have 2, this game is redundant, and long, really long.
Super Punch-Out - Not as popular as the first game, and more importantly, we don't have anyone running it if DK28 doesn't come.
Super Star Wars - I need to knock out time and Lego Star Wars would be a better Star Wars game for the marathon, especially since Lego Star Wars has co-op.

Limbo

Banjo-Kazooie - This game needs a runner.
Prince of Persia - Honestly, I have a really hard time seeing this in the marathon. It's incredibly unforgiving and I'm not sure how many people know this game, considering the Ubisoft games are so much more popular.
Snake Rattle 'n' Roll - Might still be in the marathon if ktwo donates for it. Cheesy

Not thinking about cutting ME2 or Fable 2 yet because I have to see if the runners can come to the marathon in the first place.

i vote keep prince of persia, it's a bone-cold classic and i think most people who have gamed in any depth have at least tried a version. a good live run would be very impressive. plus that movie came out recently, heightened awareness for the series and by extension the original game, etc.

cool spot seems like a pretty boring game for a speedrun but i guess that'll be up to matrix

I think you're pushing your luck a little bit here. Wink

For all I know, I might not even be there to watch the stream... If you really don't want the SRnR no-warp more than that, then so be it.

My run choice is Thexder Neo, has been since day one. I have a practice run on Easy. I also had it posted on page 10 of the Planning thread. The actual run will be on Normal. I will try to get a Normal recording done at some point.

Differences between Easy/Normal
Easy is a bit more forgiving. Enemies are weaker and you're also permitted to continue if you die (start level over). On Normal, you only have one life: die = game over, better luck next time.

Repeat: my run vote is Thexder Neo, UP YOURS Cool Spot! (anybody else hate the Make 7 UP Yours commercials?)

The whole jabbing abuse easily reduced by setting it onto Easy, killing the common foes by using a knife (1-2 hit KOs), throwing scumbags into pits and an co-op attack*.

But I do agree that SOR1 moveset is very basic compared to SOR2.

Unfortunately I'm having a tough time deciding to go to the marathon for personal reasons so it's best to say that I'll pass :(.

Do whatever you want with Shadow Complex (cut it, replace someone else, etc).

I guess you cut Limbo because is it too linear, boring and slow paced (and an overpriced game at 1200 MSP)??

Also I think Limbo is very entertaining to watch and worth the price imo. Wink

I'll probably download Limbo if the price was 800 or less but not 1200. Most of my friends on XBL downloaded the full version which is huge since not many of my friends on XBL download the same games I got.

Since I don't have the full version yet, I wasn't sure if Limbo is entertaining or not (it's not as 'speedy' like the Mario and Sonic games). It has a good reason to be on the list because it is obviously the most popular game during The Summer of Arcade 2010.

I could take my time on him and kill him without dying I think. The main issue with this is that it's a 50-minute long game that nobody has ever heard of before.

I don't know about never head of before. I think anyone that knows and likes the first will know about the second for the disappointment it was. For some reason I was thinking it was more like 35 minutes. Just trying to give you some options to put forth. I know 7th Saga wouldn't cut it. Wink

Hahaha, good point. It is pretty well known for not living up to expectations. But yea, I suggested it in the very beginning when I first volunteered to run games, but Mike said it was too obscure and lengthy to justify. That is just too factual to try to argue. Haha.

Thats part of it but I dont think that should change the decision.
