My feelings on The Demon Rush
Schedule is final at this point. There will be minor changes at most.

Current schedule: http://speeddemosarchive.com/marathon/schedule/

Latest Changes:

Quote:
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time has been cut from the schedule, because there's no way you can reliably single-segment it unless if you want to cut out pretty much every shortcut. Occasionally even if you go the normal way the game glitches out on you. Sad And yes, I know I would have to practice it a lot if you saw my stream, but that's less of an issue than the freezing and glitchiness.

Other changes:

-Tigger77 said he's probably not going to be ready for the alttp race, so I dropped him from it. Sad However, he is still going to try as hard as possible to practice the game in case if he gets up to shape.
-Because what I said above, Tigger77 is now going to do a full run of Link's Awakening again. Cheesy
-Cave Story now moved to Monday so all of the N64 stuff doesn't start at 2 am.

Oh yeah, if you want to propose changes to the schedule, you have to keep these things in mind.

-Andrewg says he can only guarantee playing the first two days.
-Kareshi is only in from 10 am Friday (7th) to 9 PM saturday (8th).
-Aleckermit, PEACHES_, Cosmo, and neskamikaze all leave on Sunday.
-Emptyeye and Mickey Mage can't open because they won't be coming until late day 1.
-Breakdown can only guarantee staying on the weekend.
-Nothing Sunday morning or afternoon for Essentia and Denton.

Final Fantasy X: I used to think having this game was a great idea, but looking at how full our schedule is now, I'm not so sure. Also, Essentis has had a lot of attempts killed by bad luck. Are you okay if this game is cut Essentia?

Please cut FFX.  It will take a lot of stress off me, especially since I'm running Chrono Trigger, and free up a bunch of time as well.  And, as anyone who saw the end of my SS attempt last month can tell you, I tend to go crazy at about the 10-hour mark. Wink

(By the way, luck isn't really a problem in a SS run of FFX, especially if I save periodically.  I've minimized randomness as much as possible in my route.  My attempt that failed 6 hours in was due to a really stupid mistake on my part.)

I don't have a definite time estimate for Lego Star Wars II, but I'm guessing it'll be 1-2 hours (hoping closer to 1).  Denton and I will get working on this and get a better time for you.

Thanks Essentia, and I'll be sure to spell your name right next time. Wink
Talk to the Hand
For the Beat-em-Up section, here's what you do:
1. Find the games in the list that have MIKE HAGGAR in them.
2. Cut everything else.

Boom, instant hours of time saved.

Wink

More seriously:
I personally thought Super Punch-Out was pretty popular myself, at least in its day.

Descent can probably go. I remember the advertisement basically touting it as a Doom killer (Descent: Not equal to Doom. Greater than.), but I doubt many other people do, and well...there weren't a whole lot of "Descent clones" in the day, if you get my drift.

ALSO: Crazy Essentia would be neat to see for those of us who missed it. Cheesy (As I mentioned in the FFX topic, the so-called "Essentia Rage" when she died to Kimahri was barely a gaming-level tantrum, let alone actual rage. Maybe she's just too sweet and nice to do any actual raging. ;))

if moooh isn't planning on doing bk then it might need to be cut even though it's a classic. i've never actually run it before so it just depends on whether or not i'll have time to practice -- i'll let you know.

definitely want to do uncharted 2 still which will become my main priority after i'm finished my wl5 runs (almost there). i know it's long (probably around 3 hours) but it's very popular and would be a fun one to watch.

i've decided not to race wario land 5 mostly because i won't have time to learn the levels -- you have to collect coins in any% which drastically changes the routes. i'd do some ils in one of the bonus/side streams though if people want.

i think re4 and 5 should be split from the others since they're so different but also to give people a break from so much resident evil some people who want to watch them all might not be able to in one sitting.

finally it looks like both any% and 100% kirby and the amazing mirror are planned. is the 100% really necessary?
Fucking Weeaboo
I gave options for either, but really only wanted 100% if we had 4 people involved.  Since it's just gonna be rom and myself, I think any% would be more reasonable.

As for Rondo/Dracula X Chronicles, having them both is kinda redundant.  I'd rather have a race with Satoryu on DXC and not worry about Rondo, since a majority of the game is the same, plus the timing nuances between them would drive me nuts.
Obscure games ftw

3D Platformers

Banjo-Kazooie
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!

These are all highly-rated, popular platformers. Well, Spyro less so than the others, but I'm not 100% sure lag.com is even going to run the game.

Honestly, the only one of those I've played is Spyro. Tongue
Looks like a pretty good lineup though.
Visually Appealing
I still prefer the Old vs New idea for Rondo/DXC.

I understand the concern about X6. And SSing it could be very problematic. Perhaps it is best that's cut. But I think X4 should definitely stay. And if we're cutting one of my games, I want to do something else in its place. I could try to do X4 with the character you don't use.

Bloodlines should stay too if only cause it's the only Retrovania with a spear dude.

I'm in the same boat as you, I would be needing lots of practice to bring it up to todays standard and I'm not sure I'm going to have the time for that.
We should not cut it yet though, there might be other people who would be able to step up and take it, once they know that the game might be needing a runner.

Battletoads in Battemanics: Honestly, I have a really hard time justifying this game. I doubt a lot of people even know there was a sequel to the original Battletoads (and I'm sure even less know there's a Genesis and Gameboy version).

It's a tough call, honestly.  Obviously, I'd love to run the game, since it is pretty entertaining and short (~22 minutes for a bad run).  On the other hand, it is definitely the least popular of the Btoads games.  It just seems strange to only have one game from this series, considering how popular it has become.  If it has to be cut, it has to be cut, though.

Quote from mikwuyma:
Actraiser: Professional mode race, which will be fun to watch. Still, it is over half an hour and not the most well-known game.

If I play on that mode for more than 29 minutes, I game over.  ^_^

Considering two of my three games are likely going to be cut, and the third game is a four-man race, I might have to reconsider attendance.  Especially since upwards of 90% of my Btoads runs end in a game crash, it may not be worth it.  I'll think it over.  Maybe I could pick up some other games.

You got a deletion wish?
Thexder Neo is not obscure IMO, especially if you are familiar with the original (which is also playable).  I am trying to re-familiarize myself with Cool Spot but Thexder Neo would be my choice.  I need to start stopwatch-timing myself cause 10 mins. only seems right if the boss behaves himself.
If I promise a 10 dollar donation, will you reconsider a full run of Snake Rattle 'n Roll ? Smiley It will also give extra motivation for the runner (Feasel ?) to go after the bounty for that game.

Also, I can't see a mention of the difficulty. Just my personal opinion as a potential viewer, but I hope no one will be running on easy at least.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Emptyeye: Honestly, I always hear people mention Punch-Out, but not Super Punch-Out. Also, I'm not sure DK28 can even come to the marathon. I'm also likely to kick Descent, I just need to talk to Lag.com about it. Cutting all of the non-Mike Haggar games is an easy way to cut time. Wink

Banjo-Kazooie: Moooh, if not your or Arkarian, then who? I don't mind keeping BK in the list for now, but if no one offers to run it, then I'm going to cut the game from the schedule. Maybe an any% would be a better choice?

Arkarian: Fair enough, I'd like to get a time estimate for Uncharted 2 soon so I know what I have to work with. And yeah, splitting up RE4 and 5 is probably a good idea. If nothing else, Carcinogen will need a break.

Kirby: Out of all of the Kirby games, Amazing Mirror and Epic Yarn are most likely to be cut. Amazing Mirror has a bunch of setup time involved, AFAIK, and we won't know how long Epic Yarn is until Novemberish, and that's assuming no speed tricks are found in between the game's release date and the marathon.

Satoryu: Yeah the old vs new idea might work.  I've been hearing a couple of requests for X4 to stay, so I guess it will stay. It sounds like you don't sound so hot on X6, should I just cut it from the schedule? Bloodlines staying just because it has spear dude isn't enough to convince me, sorry.

PJ: Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is on the fence, but Actraiser is likely to remain because it's a race.

MatrixTN: Sorry, but Thexder Neo is obscure. I don't think anyone on the forums heard of the game until you mentioned it. I would prefer it if you tried to run Cool Spot. Are there any other games you could run?

ktwo: I don't see why not, as long as if it's a warps run. It's not a long game anyway.

bk 100% is not much different from any% which is why no one really bothers with any% runs (i believe you need 94 of 100 jiggies and 820/900 notes to beat the game). if i were to run it though i'd get the bare minimum which would cut at least a few minutes.
By "full run", I meant a no-warp run... If you think it's too long, don't do it, but that's what my 10 dollars were about. Take it or leave it...
My feelings on The Demon Rush
How long is a no warp run?
Now a hit show on the CW
Will be very sad to see FFX go, but if nothing else, that frees up a lot of time which means hopefully more games can be run overall.

I can definitely understand reluctance to include Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, as they're both rather similar and long. I'm fine running either (or both) of them, so let's just decide which one will be more entertaining/popular.

As soon as I finish recording my FF13 run, I'm going to be focusing on practice for the games I'm signed up for. Katamari and Mario Galaxy are relatively easy to do full game runs on, but Mega Man 9 will require a lot of practice. I'm relatively confident I can perform a clean, deathless run, just don't expect crazy corner zips or MD9-level precision.
I guess a SRnR warp run would be 10 min and a full run 20-25. But I'm sure the runner is in a better position to give for an estimate.

Mike: That's fine. I will point out, that Super Punch-Out did see a re-release at some point during the SNES's lifespan (I can't find any definitive info on whether this was a part of the Million Seller Player's Choice line, though). That tells me it was at least somewhat popular.

Of course, if we have no one to run it, that's a more pressing issue.

On cutting games: Screw it, this is now the MIKE HAGGAR-a-thon! 100 hours of the various Final Fight/Slam Masters games. It'll raise MILLIONS! Cheesy

Hi! I'm andrewg!
For the Mario series, should I be doing any full completions/100% runs? Also, I could probably run sm64 (with 16 stars I'm a bit rusty)...might be able to do it, no guarantee. Mario Galaxy I would be willing to do, but my attempt would look like a joke. I definitely don't have enough experience to run it. I don't own it, but I could MAYBE borrow it from someone.

I'm not sure on all the runners that are attending, but I'm decent at quite a few popular NES titles if needed. I would need some practice once again though.

I could run all the games I ran last MAGfest as well, though some didn't go well (I think mainly due to my sickness)... but idk what you guys are looking for this year. It looks like you're trying to fit in the majority of popular runs. I could definitely do Marble Madness again (considering it's only 3 minutes long). Yo! Noid I would run, but I have no idea if there's any interest (probably not). I could maybe do parts of Punch-Out! I'm willing to do all of it if Sinister1 doesn't show.

Here's what I did (and can still do this upcoming MAGfest)
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Super Mario Bros. 2J (AKA: The Lost Levels - either version)
- Super Mario World
- Rush 'n Attack (I'm really not as bad as I was at MAGfest!)
- F-Zero (SNES) (same as above)
- Castlevania 1
- Mega Man 1
- Punch-Out! (NES)
- Marble Madness

My girlfriend could maybe do these (or I could if she doesn't feel like it/can't come):
- Lion King (SNES)
- Mario paint (SNES) - flyswatter game

Some more I could probably manage:
- Donkey Kong (NES)
- Rad Racer
- Yo! Noid
- Werewolf (NES)
- Excitebike (5-6 tracks worth)
- Super Mario 64
- Pro Wrestling (NES)
- Mega Man 2

I could probably run ALL of these if you guys wanted. I don't know which ones you guys want in the marathon and which you don't. I do think that the number of games I run will definitely show in my performance though. I don't want to kill myself, so I probably shouldn't run 30 games at MAGfest.

Is there some way I could run all my games at around the same time or is that going to be difficult to manage. Last MAGfest, I felt like it was just a huge pain because I ended up running games every 4 hours at some points.

Oh, I'm perfectly cool with it. I would LOVE to run it, in fact. But if you don't think it's the best choice, I'd understand.
sinister1
so pro u don't even know
@mike: I am definitely coming to run MTPO. I would say go ahead and cut Super Punch-Out!! since DK28 is not coming. I thought I would run this but if we need to cut stuff then this is a good candidate.

@andrewg: you can guest star if you like and take a fight or two. You cannot have Super Machoman though, his ass belongs to me.
Can't we just ship packattack here to run Banjo Kazooie?

Anyway, I am going to have to leave early (need to be home on the 9th) but I am definitely ready for my three games as wondering if you could schedule them for before that time so that I can do them, preferably before the 9th at all because I don't know when exactly my flight will be.
