Waiting hurts my soul...
SDA has hosted a panel at Magfest for the past few years, and during that panel has showcased a video of runs available on the site. The video is usually in the 30 minute range. Short clips from games are used, ranging from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Last year I believe it was decided we should start selecting games from the past year. I've included an alphabetized list of runs posted in the past year. Take a look and make suggestions for what should go into this year's video. Things to keep in mind when selecting a clip:
- Include a time range for the clip, and give a short explanation on why it should be included (see the video below on how this will be used with the clip)
- We want to show a range of genres and games as an example of diversity in content.
- Clips should be impressive on their own without much context. Select either an easily understood feat or a well known title.
- There's usually a finale video that will show a complete run, less than 5 minutes for the entire video would be best. (past selections are SMB in 5:00 and Diablo in 3:12)
Here's last year's video as an example: http://www.archive.org/details/MAGFest-SDA_Speed_Run_Showcase_2010
There's not much time, so please make suggestions soon. Mike, nate, Breakdown, Flip, feel free to take over this thread/post, as I'm not sure how up-to-date I'll be able to keep it in the coming week (I'll do my best), and I'm not going to be making the final decision on these, so eventually one of you should step in to start cutting the list.

Suggested Game | Time Range mm:ss - mm:ss | Reason to Include | Explanation of Clip |
Metroid Prime 3 | Segment 10 2:17-2:37 | Quick Boss Kill (Korakk) | This is one of the first bosses in the game where the weakness is used to full efficiency. (Revise) |
Metroid Prime 3 | Segment 15 4:10-4:45 | Quick Boss Kill (Ghor) | Another boss in the game where the weakness is used to full efficiency. (Revise) |
Metroid Prime 3 | Segment 32 5:59-7:45 | Quick Boss Kill (Final Boss) | Can't even tell it's Wiimote controlled. (Revise) |
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia | (Segment 28) 0:25 - 0:52 | Death Fight made easy | Include because Death is beaten in FIVE HITS WITHOUT TAKING DAMAGE. Normally Death is That One Boss in a lot of the Castlevania games. |
Doc Louis's Punch-Out!! | 1:25 - 2:20 (1:33 - 2:27 original suggestion) | Sparring Match | Doesn't need much explanation |
Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (SS Leon) | 0:20:49 - 0:22:04 | Joachim fight | Normally a difficult fight beaten in 2 rounds (it's very tough to do it in 2 rounds) |
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! | Segment 4 (maybe cut it down a little if necessary) | TKO Mike Tyson Round 1 | Speedrunning isn't all about glitches. |
Tetris Attack | 3:15 - 3:40 | Apparently it's now a tradition, which means someone needs to improve it next year. | Big combos aren't always best because it delays the dumping of the garbage blocks. |
Shadow Complex | 11:57 - 13:29 | Getting Jet Pack
Shadow Complex | 3:43 - 5:40 | Golden Shotgun and Spider Boss
New Super Mario Bros. Wii | Segment 4 0:19 - 1:21 | World 5-4 | Forgoes the normal transport |
Vectorman 2 | 10:01 - 10:25 | Large skip going over the area. | Avoiding going into the level by staying on top of it. |
Vectorman | 2:03 - 3:20 | Stage 3 is cool | Something about up-right shooting. |
Donkey Kong 64 | 13:17 - 14:13 | Glitching through things | needs some explanation about flying and triggering doorways |
Rocket Knight Adventures | 23:37 - 24:05 | Axle first phase | tricking out the AI |
Dragon Warrior III | Segment 10 12:22-13:55 | Baramos fight | Selecting parry, canceling, and then selecting a new command keeps the action and the effects of parry. Baramos has a hidden regeneration, which recovers 90-109 HP after every turn. |
Mega Man Powered Up | 27:36 - 29:31 | Water level | close fight and level |
Half-Minute Hero: Hero 3 | Full run (58 seconds) | Short and quick PSP game
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap | 88:33 - 89:08 | New Glitching | needs explanation of the glitch |
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap | 119:45 - 120:20 | New Glitching | needs explanation of the glitch |
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap | 53:02 - 53:14 | Fast Boss fight
Aladdin (Genesis) | 16:40 - 17:00 | Jafar can be very difficult
Star Fox 64 | 10:05 - 10:34 | Star Wolf down | Kills all four bosses quickly |
Super Mario Bros. 2J (Lost Levels) | 5:00 - 5:26 | warp glitch fun | explanation of the glitch |
Donkey Kong | 0:12 - 0:28 | ladder glitch
Bubble Bobble | 16:02 - 16:32 | 2-player game
Mega Man 2 (27:49) | 7:55 - 8:38 | Woodman stage zipping
Mega Man 2 (27:49) | 12:15 - 13:21 | Quickman stage blacked out | explain how sometimes glitches make the game harder. |
Castlevania | 2:37 - 3:11 | Stage 2
Mega Man X3 | 33:45 - 34:16 | Doppler Elevator Skip
Donkey Kong Country (0:23) | 14:00 - 14:48 | Minecart Madness lacking minecart
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (2:32) | 2:10 - 2:50 | skip to the end | explain that a glitch was used to access a teleporter to skip the majority of the game. |
Spelunky | full run | freeware
YHTBTR | full run | freeware
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time | 9:17 - 9:26 | super slide | explain how it works? |
Batman Arkham Asylum | 47:20 - 48:05 | More Fighting
Batman Arkham Asylum | 62:30 - 63:00 | Fighting + Gliding
Shadows of the Empire | Segment 8 - 1:36 - 4:21 | Out-of-bounds glitchiness + skipping | Might need to be shorter? |
Shadows of the Empire | Segment 5 - 6:56 - 7:08 | Out-of-bounds glitchiness + skipping | would need to explain skipping the boss? |
Shadows of the Empire | Segment 6 - 0:49 - 1:27 | Could always use more racing | not much explanation |
