SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
alright, I'll start downloading it...

Another think I forgot to ask...  For the Dawn of Sorrow Speed run, it has the dual screens so that may take more time to actually edit down...

Until I can get around to work on it, I'm setting a call out to anyone who wants to help with that part, if they can...

Edit: Can someone explain the two OoT clips?  I can see how the 2nd one can be usage, but the first one seems like a fancy gimick compared to the 2nd...  That and also from what I read in the comments, there should be alot more mind blowing moments...

Edit 2: (man you never notice things until after you post...) Since the Spelunker run is over two minutes, we might need to figure out what minute to cut out...  I'm going to send a message to the runner...

Edit 3: (Just to say, I got 5 hours of rest and woke up at 7am...  Was just barely awake when I posted the following...)  Commander Keen - 0:05 - 3:25, Again, just noticed that this was three minutes...  Unless if we are doing a special case for Commander Keen and Spelunker, this also needs to be cut down a bit as well... Other possibilities could be to cut one down to the 2 min limit and the other gets to be the "Finale Clip" or if you want to really stretch it, both clips can be a two-part three minute each finale...  Just making options...

I also need some clarification for the star war shadows of the empire segment 8, there are good parts there, but again, over the time limit and and figure out what had the better part... Personally I like the ending part since of the double glitch, but I don't want to make anymore important choices than I need to...
WOW.
Ok, the intro is coming along nicely, should be done by tomorrow night.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Alright... So after a day's work, I got all the clips together... The only things I need clarification for the following games...

Shadows of the empire part 8: This is a great segment, but I can't figure out what part to use... I can see the last two minutes being used, but as I said before, I don't want to make that important choice, although if there is no answer, then I'll do it...

Zelda OoT: I see the parts to take out, but then I saw the other parts being suggested so I'm a bit torn down the middle with what to use... Therefore I'm not going to add OoT yet until we come to a conclusion...  I already downloaded the run, so once we decide on something, I can add the segment in minutes...

Outside of that, the raw time is 37 minutes, and 30 seconds (Not counting the title, transitions, ending, and the other parts that are going to get cut)... Chrno of course got the title so I'm sure that will be great once it is ready, we need to figure out how to approach the transistions (fade in and out or do the "Speed demos archive" logo still) and of course I can take care of the long scrolling credits (although if we need stuff like "background images, or videos", then we can add it...) Until then,

I need rest...

Just heads up, I got distracted today with errands, but I'm working on getting those clips now ...
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Actually don't worry about the clips... I already got what I needed from Arkham, although I don't know if we still Toe & Earl...

Quote from ZenicReverie:
Updated the list a little bit, and I've realized that the unreleased videos probably won't be a possibility this year since encoded copies would need to be sent to whoever was making the video, and those need to be made by nate. So, I'm setting those suggestions aside for now. I think we'll just include them for next year.

Unless if Zenic says otherwise, I think we will be good...
Visit my profile to see my runs!
Oh okay.  I'll put up those TJ&E clips (I can't decide between two of them, so I'll just let you decide) and maybe a quick one from TJ&E2 (ten seconds ish).  Use them if you like, or don't.  It really won't bother me.

EDIT:  Nah, nevermind.  It occurs to me that I'm trying to force a TJ&E clip into this when we really don't need (or probably want) one, haha.  Okay, skip TJ&E.

Do we have anything from any Call of Duty run?  That'd probably get attention.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
If there was anything you had in mind, suggest away...  Also don't worry about "forcing" TJ&E... Like I said before, ask Zenic and if he agrees, I have no problem quickly adding it...  As for adding any more to the list, I'll see if I can, although I'm sure there may still be room... maybe...

From Shadows of the Empire, I personally would use only either the beginning glitch or the ending glitch ... and out of those two, I think the beginning is more straightforward and more exciting, and therefore probably better for this panel video. It may not be obvious to people that the second glitch allowed the runner to skip the level boss. Though, you could probably get away with using both clips, but only if you cut out the middle portion. An hour of clips can be tiring for casual viewers, so the shorter and more succinct a clip can be, the better.

Attached are the two clips from Toejam and Earl that I think would be best for a video. I personally like the clip of Level 22 better, but I don't know what the average person would think.

As well, I attached a couple clips from the recently posted TJ&E2 run. One is of a decent funkvac use in the second segment of the segmented run, while the other is from the single segment run ranging from 13:09 - 14:06 in the video, featuring a basically perfect performance of a hyper funk zone.  Though, the hyper funk zones are basically just a couple minutes of holding down the warp button, and while I found them impressive because the runner had to come out of warp mode to hit the clocks, I don't know what the average person would think about them. I'm actually on the side of not using the hyper funk zone clip, but it's there if you would like to see it for yourself.

SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
I know that once the marathon is over, all focus is going to be on magfest... with that said though, I just wanted to check to see if there has been any progress on the introduction, decisions made about what clips that are actually going to be used, and if we should include toejam and earl or not...

Magfest is technically less than a week away and all I have done is just have the clips downloaded...  Granted if I should get each part subtitled at the start to say who's run it is with the game title, I can do that...  as for explanations, I am also waiting to see where that stands...
WOW.
The intro is coming along ok. It won't be VERY long, about 30 seconds or so I guess. I am making it a bit special though, and after an idea change after I posted here a few days ago it will be finished about tomorrow night. I have also started the ending, with scroll credits.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Alright then, just remember that all the videos aren't final (since it is one video per game I think) so once we can determine which videos to cut out, it will help cut down the time and the credits list...  Other than that, just waiting on the on subtitles and if we can include toejam and earl or not...

Enjoy Metroid and Zelda Speed runs today!

Obviously, you can worry about TJ&E last (if at all).  Just start slapping the clips together and we'll tack that on at the end, if we want it on there.  The second game is already hosted, at least, but its clips are unexceptional.  As I said before, don't feel like you have to use them.  I just put them there to save you some time, IF you did want them.

The clips from the first game are not that exceptional either; the only point to including that game is maybe to attract people who know about it.  Anyway, none of those clips above need altering, unless you want to put either A) subtitles over them or B) a 'statid' at the beginning of each.  Have you decided which of these you'll use to give each clip some context?  Personally, I imagine the video having statids at the front because subtitles are distracting.

By the way, you said you are downloading the clips.  What list of clips are you using?  Everything in the first post, or only some of those?
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Alright... With everything that has been suggested, and adding a few seconds here and there to ensure the time is seen, we are at a time of 40:42, not counting the intro and ending...

Also until otherwise is said, I decided to add three more runs on top of what was discussed: River City Ransom and both TJ&E runs...

Along side with that, I made two other small suggestions... if it should be changed, please tell me and I can revert it back to how it was...

Suggestion 1- River City Ransom- Being able to take care of the two people at one was great, but then I watched the last part and that was another 20 seconds of footage...  The idea of taking care of the last two bosses of the game under a minute... Very nicely done...

Suggestion 2- Prinny- Xarugas's sugestion for segment 8 was great considering how he is able to dodge attacks and dish 'em out, but again, I felt the clip was too short, so considering how from that part forward (including the boss fight and ending) is under two minutes, it would be nice to watch the rest of that segment...

Again, if these suggestions aren't good, then I can easily correct them...  Otherwise, once we start removing clips, I'm sure this can bring the video down to somewhere about 30-35 minutes...  We should start discussing this as soon as possible...

Also still waiting to see about both Commander Keen and Spelunker if either those clips will be cut down for time or we will have a double full length speed run feature...  Those two runs also still haven't been added yet...

One last thing, I already removed one clip already... From Shadows of the empire, the 6th segment was good, but compared to the runner's other two suggestions, this doesn't really seem to be as important or interesting...  That and also I'm still confused about what part of segment 8 to use still (beginning or end), so that still hasn't been added yet...

Once again, this probably isn't the best to discuss this because of the marathon, but I don't have anything else going for me at the moment so I would like to have this ready long before Magfest so that in case it needs to be changed, we can do it without struggling at the last minute...
Visit my profile to see my runs!
For Shadows of the Empire, I suggest either using only the first part of that segment or both the beginning and ending but with the middle cut out.  I personally prefer just the beginning.  The middle portion is too long in my opinion, so that's out, and using the ending would be cool if we didn't already have the beginning [that is to say, the beginning and ending both use the same glitch, so just showing how the glitch can be abused again might be repetitive].

By the way, looking back over this thread, I see that no one mentioned Crysis ..?  Is that right?  Isn't that the run where like 40% of it is flying?  Probably should grab a clip from that.  Should catch the audience's attention (even if those kind of glitches are often unpopular around here)

Can you give a rough estimate of how long the average clip is?  I ask that just to see how long Commander Keen / Spelunker are going to be in comparison to other clips.

EDIT:  Nevermind.  I'll just use the first post as a reference.  Anyway, I'm going to look for something from Crysis ...

Things to cut, off the top of my head (you said we should start discussing this immediately):

A) Vectorman 1's clip.  A bit long for a clip that needs an explanation.
B) One of/some of the Metroid Prime 3 clips.  One/two should be sufficient.
C) Megaman 2 - black out.  Are we doing another video about all the aspects of speedrunning, or are we just giving a preview?  I was kind of under the impression it was the latter, which is why I would take out this clip.  However, maybe the point was (or should have been) to give an overview of this year in speedrunning, with sections like "When things went wrong" and whatever like the marathon video.  If it's this, then this clip may be okay.
D) What's with the two Pikmin 2 clips in that list?

EDIT:  By the way, it'd be nice if anyone could get us the clips from Mike89's upcoming Sonic runs.  I don't have copies of those runs.

Just going to answer all of your questions in order as you post...

1) That was something that I wanted to figure out about SotE since we have four great example of the glitch...  Granted that if we only use the video from Segment 5, that takes care of that problem, but if we use Segment 6, that leaves either the beginning of Segment 6 or the end of Segment 6 (or a combination of both parts, but then that could be a bit tricky to edit together, and as you said repetitive...)  All the same though, I proposed that segment 8 be cut... It is a good part there, but really, when compared to the glitching the runner does, that segment just isn't as interesting...

2) Crysis...  Hmm... Well again, I'm not trying to talk as though I'm in charge of the whole video, but if you can find an interesting moment or two from that run, then I can see if we can add that in too... if possible...

3) From what I saw on the first post, each clip needs to be 2 minutes or less...  Granted though that it was specified that there can be just one clip that can be more than two minutes, but that clip would serve as the finale, or something of the sort...  but then you just saw that just now...

As for cutting out parts, thank you for taking the initiative...

A) I just rewatched that vectorman that was suggested and I can see why you believe this should get cut... The runner, Mike89 said, "I'm really struggling to think of anything that's particularly impressive  because it's not especially difficult nor is there an exceptional amount of strategy variety."  meaning that didn't really find that many good things about this run, granted it was still a good speed run all the same... So if we need to make room, I can see us removing Vectorman if needed to...  But hey, we still got Vectorman 2

B) From what I saw from the previous Magfest clips, each clip only had one game each... Or rather one game per clip... So of course we are going to need to figure out what TWO clips we need to cut out... from it...

C) I'll edit this in a second... need to finish watching last year's magfest...  just skipped through the majority just now actually...  its hard to say really, but I am leaning more towards hanging on to this one since this was still an impressive run by Mr. Seth Glass... and this stage being the very essence of the zipping glitch and how hard he had to work (and even took down his previous run) to get the run as perfect as possible...

D) The two Pikmin two clips suggested were,
Part 8, 44:50-46:00 (Titan Dweevil fight)
Part 8, 22:49-23:04 (Pileated Snagret fight)

So final boss or a impressive fight against the titan dweevil...  I leaning towards the latter since final boss is final boss...

I just went back to watch the magfest video from last year and saw that Donkey Kong was added to last year's video... Ergo, it maybe a bad idea to show the same clip from last year, so I went ahead and removed that too...  It is still a great glitch and all, but just to avoid repeating something that was already shown (the exact same thing, not the same game)

Any other clips that needs decisions are games that have more than one suggestions, most of those need to go...

I) Metroid prime is hard to say, so I'll let others discuss that...

II) Shadow Complex, I say the jet pack sequence since anyone who invests in the time in the game can easily do the exact same thing (get the Gold gun from the room and kill the tank in a few hits)

III) Batman Arkham Asylum: I can't decide what is better since we have one part where you see batman take out three guys with one explosive gel, or the other that you have batman jump one guy from gliding and take out the other five in a matter of seconds...  Again, we needs a vote...

IV) Prinny: This one I did... Should we have just want the runner wanted, or show the segment after the runner's suggestion... Personally I perfer the whole segment since the runner's performance continues to get better from here, including the boss fight...

V) Pikmin 2: Once again it is between Titan Dweevil or Pileated Snagret... I vote for Pileated Snagret since you have the final hardest boss, and how the runner destroys it fast...

VI) Super Ghost and Goblins: Do we add the first stage and show how the runner easily navigates through an area that is really difficult, or put in a really fast boss fight against that is less than 16 seconds?  Both clips are good, so I can't decide which is better...

VII) Shadows of the Empire: Just copy and paste what I said earlier... take your pick...

VIII)  Both Toejam and Earl games:  Considering that Muckywater has gone though all the trouble to suggest the two games, I'll leave it up to you with what to leave in and what to cut out...  Otherwise anyone can do what they want with it... and by that, I mean help me come to a decision...

IX) River City ransom: again, the runner suggested only the fight against the twins... but considering that and the final boss are under a minute, why not add the end?

So that is what I need definite answers on...
Visit my profile to see my runs!
Okay, so one clip per game.  Then a lot more need to be added to the list, as you said, such as Minish Cap or something.  I was not sure if we were going to do some clips that were mixtures of different scenes from the same game ... like, if we went with Segment 8 in Shadows of the Empire, we would just cut from the beginning of that level straight to the end seamlessly in the video and without a separate introduction or anything.  This would be good for short little tricks that would be silly to put on their own.  But anyway.

You are probably more familiar with Shadows of the Empire, so I assume your idea is the best.

By the way, I am attaching a clip from Crysis that might work.  It's one of the few flying clips that makes any sense.  It's about a minute long: first he starts flying over the landscape, then he snipes out some enemies with a rocket launcher while still flying in the air, then he lands and shoots a few more things and the clip ends.  The flying is relatively easy to follow (as far as this run goes, anyway) and it's fast-paced.

I saw the crysis clip, that was very nice...

If possible though, can you leave a few more seconds (about 5-10 seconds) at the end of that clip?  It seems that it cuts out just as the antenna gets hit without letting you savor that moment...

also just to point out, I did leave a big edit just before this one about the eleven games that need cuts...

Edit: wait, just went back to watch that part of the run... the checkpoint reached a few seconds later does freeze the game a bit...  All the same, just to extend it just a bit to reach there, a clever fade out can easily remedy the situation...
dem tokay
Minish Cap: put in the second glitching instance in the thread (the one around the 2 hour mark).  The first one has a mistake and isn't as impressive as the first one, and the fight isn't actually a boss fight, but just a quick kill of something that can take ages normally (darknut).

Darn.. o well, since I got the clips just about ready, I'll just finish it anyway...  Maybe not a MAGfest video, but perhaps just a step down...  A simple SDA 2010 Highlights Video...

Unless if anyone wants to say anything else about the clips to use or any captions, I'll proceed with posting a very raw video on this page...

Ouch.  I guess the SDA staff won't have time to show the video, or review/edit the video, or something?

Sorry you went through all that work, MAS8705, getting as much of the video done as possible up to now.  I would still like to see it, myself.  I personally think SDA should have a periodic highlight video anyway, providing a year in review on occasion.  But anyway, you deserve a lot of credit for at least attempting to give SDA a video in time for the Friday panel.  Thanks for all your hard work!
1-Up!
I'm sure we'd all still appreciate the video, but as far as logistics are concerned it's just not going to be able to happen at MAGFest.

We definitely all appreciate the work you've put in, MAS.
Sonical!
MAS8705, since this isn't in a rush anymore, I wonder if you think that my suggested clip from Sonic Advance is good enough to be included. If you do, just let me know and I will send you the encode.
