Whaddup, guys. So I seriously started to miss speedrunning, and in order to stick to the woman of my dreams (mind you, I'm a sick killer in my dreams -_-), I picked this game to give it a second playthrough, gather all the upgrades blah blah blah...long story short, I'm halfway through my second playthrough, but once I'm done with that, I'll be all fine n' ready to have the real fun with it. I'm not gonna ask you if you are interested in seeing it or not - last time I asked people told me they'll be glad with any addition to the SDA collection. SOOOOO, the only question I got is - Do you think it would be more suitable for this game to create a timetable with all individual levels instead of the usual one-link download? Because, you know, I'm planning on running it with massively upgraded Lara (which is like the only worthy way), and in order to do that I'll have to actully replay all the levels one by one, so there won't be any continuation among them in the run.

...

Thoughts? Thanks.

0_o    ........................................................... go ahead what? I'm running the game for sure (as a matter of fact I've already completed every single challenge on every single level, got all the weapons, relics, artifacts, just all the stuff, so I'm already practicing and exploring and shit), the question was about something else. Tongue But I guess it doesn't matter anyway, I'll just run the game and once it's done, the higher power will decide as for how will it be uploaded. ^_^

The second level of the game can be completed in under 90 seconds but only on Co-op by putting one player by the Spider Tomb entrance and the other player going as far away as possible (top left of the map), the camera forces the other player to try and keep both of the players in the same screen. Doing so forces the player through solid walls that's not even possible to do on solo.

Example done on both Forgotten Gate and Stronghold Passage

Oh by the way I got the game on the Xbox 360 currently at first (or probably 2nd or 3rd as I haven't checked the leaderboard times recently) on All-Clear times with over 33 minutes

LLCooldave told me that his All-Clear run on the PC is sub-30.

The PC version has the advantage to aim spears much more easily by using the mouse pointer. The console version has an exploit that enables to 'rapid fire' any weapon easily (including Grenade Launchers, Spears, Shotguns and Rocket Launchers).
Interesting read, Greenalink. Sadly I'm kinda not capadle of doing a co-op run, because Steam hates me and just doesn't let me get along n' stuff...also I don't really have a second player, so...>_<
Im still working on getting all Items. I am very interested in doing a speedrun of this game. So once I get more familiar with the game and study it some I would love to join for a co-op. Also Steam release a patch that fixes the co-op.
Just for completeness sake, here are my current times:

Temple of Light: 3:27.828 (1) (Not very optimized)
Temple Grounds 2:54.154 (1) (Still missing the huge clipping glitch that noone I know has figured out in single player yet)
Spiders Tomb: 1:59.754 (3) (This one is still missing a shortcut I know of)
The Summoning 0:08.471 (2) Not sure if a 7.xxx is possible on PC
Forgotten Gate  1:17.??? (?) So fast it was deleted from the leaderboards
Toxic Swamp 4:28.501 (1) Not sure what this one already used and what is still missing. I THINK this still hasn't used the bridge skip
Flooded Passage 2:23.369 (1) No time went into optimizing this, there's probably more mine boost skips you can do in this one.
The Jaws of Death 1:23.894 (6) Not sure how this can be done faster still
Twisting Bridge 1:19.070 (1) Just a proof of concept run
Fiery Depths 3:00.340 (3) This one is still very terrible
Belly of the Beast 0:18.073 (1) 17.xxx will happen for the IL tables, that's about it. Don't think lower is possible without the fastshooting glitch on PC
Stronghold Fortress 1:07.??? (?) And another one that was dropped from the leaderboards
Mirror's Wake 49.977 (1) Could be more polished, maybe 46.xxx for IL tables
Xolotl's Stronghold 4:45.602 (3) Hate this level. Guess we need to find a skip on this to make it bearable.

Total: 29.23.789 (1) First on PC by a LONG shot.

Brackets show the current place among legit times I have on PC.

Xbox 360 leaderboard times:

Most of the best runs were done by Khaled 13, this runner is legit and his times will be marked with *
Text in red are likely to be non-legit

Temple of Light *2:51* or  1:59
Temple Grounds *2:38* or 1:07/1:24
Spider's Tomb *1:33*
The Summoning 6.661 seconds
Forgotten Gate 1:27 (by me)  1:16 note that the 1:16 time was published since October 2010
Toxic Swamp *3:31* or 1:37/1:38
Flooded Passage *2:02*
Jaws of Death *1:20:560*
Twisting Bridge *1:11:689*
Firey Depths *2:00:667* or 44 seconds or even 1:29:545
Belly of the Beast 15:875 (the only sub 16 second run), I'm 2nd on this one.
Stronghold Passage *1:07:965*
The Mirror's Wake *44 Seconds*
Xolotl's Stronghold  4:29:391

Fastest time total: *26 minutes, 48 seconds.*

Khaled 13 hasn't produce a run that uses the fastest sequence break method on Forgotten Gate otherwise, his time total would be just over 25 minutes!!
Greenalink: Was that singleplayer or co-op? Some of the times sound impossible to my knowledge of the game. 0_o
DS Dictator
They are all single player times.

Remember the ones in red are not 100% confirmed since the runners who have those kinds of time only appear in like 1 of the 14 levels. The ones in white are legit and good targets to aim for.

Ok a mini bump because I've been playing a little bit of this again.

I've found a way to skip Xolotl's Fire Trap on the first level by a new method, without even triggering the cutscene.
It's pretty quick and saves roughly 20-30 seconds.

Edit: Seems like skipping the battle doesn't set a loading point until you actually destroy the Fire trap.
Hey guys, I just got this game and been having some fun with it.  Haven't beaten it yet, but I started doing some speed runs of the first few levels.

Greenalink - What is your strat on the Forgotten Gate?  I cant seem to find a clip to use in single player.  Also, do you see a possible way to get that 1:16 time that PhantomRedRaven has?

Hopefully once I beat the game and get better (just got it yesterday) I'll get some better times.
DS Dictator
Ah, the Forgotten gate skip is actually pretty difficult to do.

I may have a video on my dvd recording harddrive so I'll have a look. I promise that none of my times are hacked ;).
The 1:16 time may be beatable, but it had that time since October 2010 when I managed to discover a skip in December 2010.
ah, if you've got a video of that, that would be great, or even a text description of it.  Also, the first level.  I've seen some people bomb the top gear and ride the back dragon head (or whatever it is) and throw a spear at the back column and jump to and from that with a damage boost.  Wouldn't it be quicker to boost up to the gate from the front dragon head and roll over? at least that is more consistent for me.

It's hard to explain in text but when you are going to try it out, expect some BS deaths  along the way. Far distance aiming is pretty awkward.
Wow no kidding on the BS deaths.  I dont know how you found that though! I'm getting pretty good at the top spear placement, but the bottom one is so glitchy. I'm wondering if there is some kind of auto aim (though not really, if that makes sense) that screws with me there.  but I finally got it and screwed up the final run and died once, but I currently have a time of 1:50 and I'm pretty happy with that for now. currently ranked 3rd on that level.
DS Dictator
I was inspired by LLCooldave's Stronghold Passage run, I took not on how the skip works and see if there was any gaps in the level to go Out of Bounds. Luckily there is a way but it is much harder to do than Stronghold Passage's gate skip.

So I finally finished the game and got everything so I'm on to running levels more.  I'm going to start writing out strats for levels.  At least I'm hoping I can be successful in it.  I'm fairly certain that what I write will NOT be optimal, but I figured that's where someone can alter it to be more optimal.  I currently do not have a DVR or other capturing device other then a hand held camera, so that's why I'm sticking with text.  For now, I'll write out easy/short levels.

The Summoning - Have Spear of Light ready, Roll forward to the cut scene, skip it, rapid fire up-left off screen for a quick kill (maybe walk in that direction to shave a few tenths of a second). My time with this strat - 7.981 (19)

Jaws of Death - Have a rapid fire weapon that can be fired from the air ready, roll up-right staying as straight as possible. for the first large gap, jump and fire at the target and begin rolling again.  Second large gap, Bomb boost over. roll to the finish, and jump just as the door opens to go through it before it is done opening. My time with this strat - 1:28.848 (131) (I really have no idea how to improve this time)

Twisting Bridge - Have regular Spear ready, jump onto the TNT barrel and throw a spear down and a little left.  it should land on the wall running perpendicular to the mountainside. jump on the spear and bomb boost on top of the entrance area (tends to be a difficult jump for me). Jump onto the mountain and run up-left and bomb boost over the gap to the left mountain side.  Roll along up here until you get to the second tunnel exit, and drop down.  run over to where switch for the gate is. DO NOT STEP ON IT.  Throw a spear at the silver wall up and a little right. bomb boost from the bridge to the mountain side where you threw the spear. Throw another spear at the wall and jump to it, and then other spear you threw. now jump left to the stone part that is sticking out. From here jump up to the main path and roll to the finish.  my time with this strat (with mistakes) 1:39.076 (4)

Belly of the Beast - Have Light Spear ready, roll to the top corner of the area to trigger the "Beast" and then rapid fire at him. My time with this strat (I cant get a fast rapid throw) 19.954 (58)

Xolotl's Stronghold - Grenade the spiders, Light Spear Xolotl, repeat. Bomb the Spike log like at the end of Spider Tomb and run under.  Fight 2, use the Light Spear on Xolotl and bomb/Grenade enemies to either get them out of your way or to get ammo.  Fight 3, Light Spear Xolotl (again) and use the golden Shotgun on the big enemies (dont know their names) for a One hit kills, then Light Spear Xolotl for the final time.  I haven't completed a run with this strat yet, but I believe its right.

If someone could explain the rapid fire tech that would be great (seeing as I cant do it really fast).  Also, feel free to add in your own strats for those levels as well as others.  You are welcome to use and/or alter my strats.  I'll try to have the first 2 or three levels typed out this weekend.

Forgotten Gate - (Based on Greenalink's strat) Have Spear Ready, Roll forward and then go to the right, avoid touching the pressure holes for the balls and run up the stairs and around the corner. Stand just to the left of the light on the stairs and be right against the railing (Lara should be positioned under the center of the doorway). Aim a spear to the left and throw it so it just barely goes behind the left pillar on the left side of the screen.  This is cause it to land in the upper left part of the stone part of the wall (or maybe a little further left, which is fine).  Next go back down to the stairs that is next to the wall where you threw the first spear and stand in the middle of the stair way in the middle shadow and throw a spear to the left so that it lands just to the right of the stone part of the wall (this may vary depending on the placement of the first spear).  Now jump up to the top spear.  (here is where I differ from Greenalink) Now jump to the left and a little bit forward.  You may need to bomb boost here but it isn't necessary.  You should land in the wall above the gate. Now just roll forward into the loading zone. For the rest just roll to the finish. The second set of crushers goes back one on the 8th crusher, and goes back 2 on the second to last crusher.  I dont know how to explain where to go in this last run.  My time with this strat. - 1:23.634 (2)

EDIT: Just rewatched Greenalink's video and I did not realize he did what I did but when I started doing it, I did something different which cause a BUNCH of deaths and resets.  but to make it easier for people, make sure you go more left then forward so you end up on top of the gate. So full credit to this strat goes to Greenalink

What's the secret on this one, is there any skips to perform or just pure optimisation?
Edit history:
brassmaster: 2011-03-21 09:19:35 pm
The skips I do is the door at the beginning, the room with the healing aura and 2 balls with a switch each (know the room?), and the fire trap was done optimally (bombing it to the second switch).  Also, the game has an auto save, which you can quit and restart from the last autosave, allowing for easier optimal runs.  Unfortunately, not all autosaves are useful, like the one after collecting the lower sun thing (I forgot what they are called, but there are 3 you need to collect) on the Temple grounds (level 2), which warps you to the right platform, and you need to go left.  Other then that I have no other skips.  Plus, I believe the timer may be glitchy.  Hard to explain at the moment, but I am running tests.

But I am working on a Text Speed Walkthrough for the level, which I'll have up soon.
Another time improvement.  I beat PhantomRedRaven's time on Forgotten Gate and now have the lead with a time of 1:15.059 (1:14.xxx is possible).  To improve my time from before (1:23), I only threw 2 spears at the beginning, and found the right path to roll at the end so I didnt need to jump all that often.  I think it was only twice.

Anybody got a strat for The Mirror's Wake?  I'm at 1 minute even with a fully optimized run using my route (going to the upper left corner and bomb boost twice to trigger the ending sequence).  44 seconds is possible, but I dont see how.
Stronghold passage - roll forward, throw light spear at the guy who appears (not necessary, but it does make the level a pain and does not take up as much time killing him then not), then roll up the first flight of stairs and start on the second. stand right after the 2nd silver square thing on the side of the staircase, and throw a spear up and right (if lara auto aims to the pot, you are close to the right spot).  Roll back to the first staircase and throw a spear a little over half way to the gate while standing at the top of the stairs.  Now jump to the spear you just threw (you shouldn't be able to see the first spear you threw ever since it's under a platform). and now jump into the wall.  You should land on a portion on the wall that you can walk on.  If the first spear was thrown correctly, you should be able to jump straight up to it, otherwise throw a spear into the wall from where you are (literally straight in), and jump to that, which should allow you to jump to the first spear you threw.  Now jump immediately to the right and a hair forward.  You should land in the wall, but on top of the gate.  roll to the back of the gate, and you should then be able to roll to the end like you normally would.  My time with this strat - 1:12.385 (2)
