here is an alternative ending to fiery depths to avoid those awful platforms. i'll definitely be using this for now on. as far as i know there is no documentation of this or even if its been discovered before

is it possible someone could do some testing to see if its much faster?



this is a very rough version, i had just discovered it after an 8 hour stream

Been testing this for the past 30 min or so and my results were pretty much the exact same time for the tile cycle I get 90% of the time (where you have to wait for a good 2-3 sec for the tiles to turn before you can start) and this strat with no setup full yolo. Granted I did climb up at a different spot which might be a bit slower, but made getting up a lot easier for me. It's a cool strat, but for the hassle and risk (if you die it's back to before the tiles again) I'd say it's not worth it. At best you might save a second or so, but any setup easily wastes that time.

As always I might be missing something and I encourage people to try for themselves.

spears have weight apparently. in temple of light you can open the first spear door by landing 2 spears on the button (by standing on the plant pot in the far right corner).

also mines can stop levers from retracting into the wall and stop the bridge from retracting at the end of spider tomb

Really neat strat but there is no way will be worth it unless you wanna show off. You shouldn't ever really slow down in this section (at most 2-3 seconds if rng flames are especially bad) so any setup puts you at best even with the normal method. Considering the added risk I'd say not worth it at least for single segment.

i also found that you can get rocketed high into the air by Xolotl on the second phase of Xolotl's Stronghold. twice as high as the cliff and you can survive the fall but im too tired at the minute to document it. also im not sure if anyone knew this but you can get underneath the second phase area however i couldnt find anything useful.

its all in my last twitch broadcast. getting underneath starts at 03:46:46 and an example of the rocketed boost is at 04:12:00. i dont exactly have a solid way of doing it yet, just discovered it a few hours ago. lemme know if either are known already

so i was able to get over the start area (using the grapple ring momentum) to the first gate in toxic swamp without touching pop-ups. its a challenge though and i need to work it out

i think seren was asking for an alternate mirror's wake skip that avoids the pillar. well here are two variations.

The first half of the Mirror's Wake strat is pretty solid. I haven't been able to get the spear right yet, but after timing that part from your pb (which was really good) against the fastest regular way (the double bomb boost with ball) you can save 3-4 seconds doing things your way. Avoiding the pillar jump however is about 5 seconds slower, so I'd suggest sticking with the pillar.

heres a little something on a new trick (called ghostride) to ride a big guy off a cliff down below (fiery depths) to avoid fall damage. unfortunately a huge floor stops you from going down further. to ghostride simply throw a spear onto an enemy (if it hits right you can jump onto it), climb off half way then jump and it should push the monster backwards. the initial jump onto the spear pushes as well.

you can also throw spears through objects to land on enemies without damaging them. you can use those spear totem poles on spider tomb, pots, corners and even other enemies if theyre in a group/line. its a bit finnicky though due to auto target
