New WR as well, I'm so freakin happy. 58:01 was the final time. Surprisingly this might have been one of the worst runs I've had in quite some time. I died twice in the run, and made a lot of stupid mistakes. Anyway, sub 55 is possible, I know it
For now, I'm moving on to Act 2, I did soooo many resets for Act 1, and had to sit through that opening cutscene again and again
I backed up my save file so I could start a new game and test Act 1 routes. I know how you feel now, Hobo, Street and Jonese, sitting trough that cutscene is really really annoying.
The opening cutscene is even worse on console due to a longer opening loading screen. Speaking of loading screens, that's a good find flipsta, but since loading screens take soooo long on console, reloading there is not worth it for me at least . Loading screens for 360 usually take about 20-30 seconds. If I were to do your route, I'd probably lose time. But for PC users (aka, everyone else) this is really useful
It is probably worth it to get the disable helicopter skill for the end of Act 1 mission 9.
I waited on the roof until the helicopter appeared(which is only a couple of seconds) so I could activate it. When I jumped off the roof, there weren't a thousand police cars swarming me. It is much easier to evade the police this way. This worked for the 2 times that I tried.
You know... While playing through the game, I just realized that alongside with the game that can get a speed run, there are also the Digital Trips that could also be done too.
While I don't know if Psychedelic would be worthwhile, and I can't figure out if Madness ever ends (just realized that pun, sorry), Spider-Tank and Alone, have a beginning and an end. There is also "Conspiracy!" but I'm contemplating on if I should get the season pass or not. Think it might be worth while to plan out? Might be a nice break in between all the planning.
The only Digital Trip I've played is Alone, and honestly, I don't know about that. From what I remember, you have to clear out 19 parts of the island before it ends, and I believe every enemy is randomized, so very little playing could be put into this. Besides, I got really bored and the only reason I finished it is because I thought there would be an Achievement (which there wasn't). If anyone wants to try it, then by all means go for it.
Spider-Tank might be interesting, but I haven't played it yet, so I wouldn't know.
Also, we all knew it would come eventually. Act II time. 16 freakin missions, good lord. I'll do a test run tomorrow to see what we're dealing with. I won't be doing any routing beforehand, just play on the fly and use the Racine skip
Would have been sub 1 but I was still experimenting with stuff and messed up a few things. I tried Random_Machine's strat on mission 5 and died because I ran into some stuff, it was my first time trying that strat so whatever. I think that was the only death, though I was spotted 3 times during the last mission because of clumsiness/Aiden being an idiot. I came up with the idea of using a blackout during the escape in mission 7 about half an hour before I did my run, it seemed to work pretty nicely. Unlocking the fast travel after mission 4 and using it to get back from the graveyard seems faster to me but I haven't bothered to actually time it. I feel like there might be a faster way to unlock your cell in the last mission but I'll need to mess around with it. I think there was something else I was going to say but I can't remember...whatever it's late and I need to go to bed.
Back to my casual playthrough for a couple days then I'll get to work on Act II.
Well in my runs, pick up a sniper on my way to the graveyard to help with mission 8. Although I could also pick it up after mission 7. Fast travel is the way to go.
Jonese, my friend had that bed skip happen to him on his first play through, and I don't know how he did it. It's certainly interesting.
And god damn that sub 55 is glorious. If we can get sub 50 somehow it'll be a glorious day indeed
darkodion I use the Fast travel to get to the grave and it is most certainly quicker!
I know fast traveling to the hotel to get to the graveyard is faster, that's not what I was talking about. In my run, at the end of mission 4 after dropping the guy off, while Aiden is talking to himself and then to Jordi, I unlock the ctOS tower ~1 block southwest of the start point for mission 5. Later, after going to the graveyard, I fast travel to the point that doing that unlocks. I just went back and timed it in my run from last night and it turns out it's ~10-15 seconds slower than your route to get from the graveyard to the start of mission 7. However, in a full run it will probably be worth it since you'll likely use that fast travel point more than just that one time. For reference going to/unlocking the ctOS tower starts at 25:12 in my video from last night. Fast traveling after the graveyard starts at 42:04.

For mission 8 I use the 3 frag grenades I pick up during mission 7. After the mid-mission cutscene in mission 7 if you turn around before picking up the AK, there are 3 frag grenades and 1 electronic part sitting there. Just park your vehicle in front of Angelo's motorcade and toss some grenades. Clean up any stragglers with your weapon of choice and mission complete.
Also, for those who aren't aware, on the PC version there is a file (located in C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\My Games\Watch_Dogs\<your uplay id>\GamerProfile.xml) that allows you to change a bunch of settings, including some that aren't available in the in-game options. It's mostly graphical tweaks and key bindings but it also includes the option to turn off mouse smoothing, the option to change your FOV, and the option to turn off bits of the HUD. I'm wondering what everybody's opinions are on modifying this file. I personally think graphical tweaks, key binds, and turning off mouse smoothing should be allowed since they don't really provide any advantage, they're more just personal preferences. I'm not entirely sure about changing FOV since that might theoretically allow you to hack some things you normally couldn't. I haven't done any testing so I don't know for certain. Also not sure about turning off parts of the HUD, again haven't done any testing to see if it makes any difference. Thoughts?
It turns out that the disable helicopter strats are faster unless something else gets found. But this does not include the time needed to get the skill(which shouldn't take more than 10 seconds). I am also not sure about going to Act 2 after the mission(I think that the fastest strat is still the closest).
The modifying files thing shouldn't be allowed in the speedrun. What we've found for GTA:SA speedrunning was a way to disable sounds within the game to skip dialogue/make cutscenes shorter. But that requires the modification of some files. It isn't allowed. Also, cheats in that game can be activated through WASD(which we can fix by modifying files). The cheats can be activated accidentally, but we don't even change that.
I guess I was wrong, nice job Random Machine. Once you start the fifth mission, you have to open up your skill wheel in order to progress. You could get it there
Darkodion, I never thought of the grenades, that's awesome. I'll definitely try that out next time
Also, I think I found a few reliable strategies for certain missions in Act 2, and I'll do a "test" run later
I just finished potential routes for Act 1, mission 2,3,4 and 5. Thanks to everyone for sharing strats so I could incorporate them into the route. I tried to give credit to whoever found a particular strategy, sorry if I missed you.
Extra note: I think standing close to Nicole shortens her phone call.
Random_Machine, what programs do you use to make side by side comparisons like that?
King Flipsta, for Nicky's call in mission 2, what I do is I stand in her room when the call starts, walk towards the door (I doubt this is required) then leave the room and it always gives me the hack the phone line. I think the trigger is somewhere in her room
