SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Of course Zeupar... As of right now (and as long as it is in the 2010 of course) you can send what you want me to add and I'll do it...  As for clips I mentioned, this is the last call...

Please tell me which clips you would like to see, otherwise I'll make the decisions myself, and chances are I may make a wrong choice, so please tell me...  And for any explanations for any parts of the game, I could also use any explanations still if possible...
Visit my profile to see my runs!
Did you get the Crysis clip you needed or did you need me to extract a clip again?  (I can do this, but not until later tonight)
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
I got the Crysis clip don't worry...

Just reorganizing the video now, cutting out clips, and planning on what else I need for the video before publishing it...
Just waiting for Zeupar to send the clip before I finish...

D) The two Pikmin two clips suggested were,
Part 8, 44:50-46:00 (Titan Dweevil fight)
Part 8, 22:49-23:04 (Pileated Snagret fight)

So final boss or a impressive fight against the titan dweevil...  I leaning towards the latter since final boss is final boss...

[...]

V) Pikmin 2: Once again it is between Titan Dweevil or Pileated Snagret... I vote for Pileated Snagret since you have the final hardest boss, and how the runner destroys it fast...

I may be late on this, but Titan Dweevil is the final boss, not Pileated Snagret... so if you wanted an impressive final boss fight you should definitely go with the Dweevil fight.

Actually I'm still sorting through the videos still, and waiting on the intro still, so there is plenty of time to suggest parts and runs (also need to figure out how to get that clip form castlevania ds...)  Right now I'm going off of what the runner wants to have or going off of what the people of SDA want to see...  So that being said, if the titan Dweevil is more impressive, then that will be the clip that will be used...

Also want to mention that I didn't pay attention to the order of the clips I posted...  I guess that's what you get when you post without pay attention...

Did you get anything for Dragon Age?  It does not look like anyone recommended any clips, but the final time for that run must mean there are crazy sex glitches all over the run.  I wish I knew the game better.

I don't have Dragon Age added yet, but if there are any parts that would be worth while, I'll be happy to add it in as well...

On an unrelated note (in case I didn't say this earlier) I did make a decision on which clip to use on Shadow Complex...  The first clip of the first part of the game was impressive, but considering how the golden shotgun of the future has been known to take down the spider tank easy, I don't feel that it is actually a good clip to use, whereas the clip with the jet pack seems to feel more like a speed run with its jumps and how it was even able to bypass a scene and actually initiate another scene from behind...

Still need to make a decision on Metroid Prime 3, Batman: AA, prinny, river city ransom, Star wards Shadows of the empire, Super Ghost and goblins, and both toejam and earl games... Not to mention if we should still keep vectorman 1 or not...

For Batman, as much as I really like both clips, I would say to go with the clip I suggested from the library, because it shows some cool strategies. The only real problem with this clip is that it is in detective mode, which could be slightly annoying for some people.  The other clip is really just about a perfectly fought fight, but there are actually many of these in the run.  Still, it's flashy.

As for TJ&E, I can't decide for you. My personal favorite is the clip from level 22, but who knows what the average person would think.  Someone with fresh eyes (might be you in this case, MAS) needs to pick.

I really recommend ditching Vectorman 1 unless mike suggests another clip.

Alright then Muckywater, after thinking about it for a good minute, I think you do have some very good points...

1) Considering that both batman clips are really impressive in their own means, I'll leave both on...  I'll just need to probably do a quick fade into the next clip probably, but it would still be under two minutes anyway...

2) I never really played TJ&E and I can't really say which is my favorite so I'll go ahead and leave that up for grabs for a bit longer... I'll still review it anyway to see what I like more...

3) Since no one has anything to say for the first vectorman, it will be removed for now unless if someone can explain why it is good or suggests a better clip... But there is always Vectorman 2...

Thanks.  And those seem like good decisions, since I'm sure it would be nice for you to feel closer to the final product.

Btw, speaking of mike89, I made a post in the S3 & K thread to see if he can post a clip from whatever runs he has in the queue.  This video will be a bajillion times better with a nice Sonic clip or two in it.  Smiley

Also, I'm going to watch Dragon Age this weekend and find some stuff for ya.

My S3K runs are on my external hard drive and I don't have access to that for the next two days, so I hope you're not in a rush to get this done.

Vectorman 1 is perfectly OK to cut, V2 has the cool trick anyway. Smiley

IMW, do you mind if I just send you the whole run rather than chunks? I'm not particularly good at the video editing aspect of this...
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
To be honest Mike, take your time...  Whether you want to send the whole run or the chunks that you think were the best from your S3K run, either way works...  Just be sure that when you send it, just specifiy what you want to have featured: the Time Frame (please keep under 2 minutes if possible) and why you think that was your highlight... I know you already knew that, but never hurts to repeat it...  I probably won't post the first draft of the video until probably sometime at the end of the month maybe (mid-Feb?  Not like I got a time frame set on me, but I would still like to get impressions on the video all the same...)

Since I'm typing this, might as well add a quick update too...

Unless if anyone opposes the idea of extending the Prinny clip to the end of its stage, that is my  decision since Xarguas's performance continues to be awesome even after his suggested time frame...

The same can also be said of river city ransom... The suggester suggested the clip of the 2v1 part (which is 20 seconds) whereas the part I saw was incredible was this part along side with the final boss which makes the clip 48 seconds...  So again, unless if anyone has an opposition to this suggestion, that will be the clip I will add...

I also added Commander Keen and Spelunky in its entirety (so that somewhat breaks tradition of previous videos) and besides the five games that still need a decision (Metroid Prime 3, Star wards Shadows of the empire, Super Ghost and goblins, and both toejam and earl games), and not taking in account of Dragon Age (not being added on yet) and Castlevania portrait of ruin once I can get the screen properly, the total time is 45 Minutes 29 seconds...  The length itself isn't too bad considering the first magfest video was also about 45 minutes and the 2nd was 33 minutes, so I don't know if you are going to mind the time or not...

Mike89:  Thanks for posting.  You can just send me the whole thing if you would like.  I've already trimmed out a few clips for other runs, so as long as you give me some suggestions for where to look, either MAS or I will be able to take care of the editing.
Visit my profile to see my runs!
For Dragon Age, the possible clips I found were:

A) 6:00 - 6:45  (Glitches through door, fighting)
B) 10:20-12:30 (Experience glitch)
C) 20:10 - 20:40 (swarm, then wiping out an entire bar in a couple seconds)
D) 21:35 - 21:50 (Swarm, then glitching through a door, biggest time saver of the run, game thinks you have done everything up to this point)
E) 22:45 - 23:15 (Out of bounds, then swarm, then glitches through building, then very brief fight)
F) 24:30 - 25:00 (Setting tons of people in a room on fire, boss fight)
G) 32:30 - 33:!5 (swarm majorly out of bounds)
H) 35:20 - 35:50 - 36:20 (swarm through black out of bounds area, then final boss killed in like twenty seconds)

I wrote many of those off the top of my head, not knowing what was going on or what kinds of clips were yet to come.  So, out of these, I think the best are E, F, and H.  If I only had to pick one, I'd probably pick E because it's an obvious and eye-catching glitch.  F isn't really all that exceptional, but who doesn't like a fight unfolding inside a fiery tornado?  And H is cool just to see a big dragon get killed almost immediately (if you used this clip, you probably wouldn't need the out of bounds stuff ... in this clip, it's not much to look at).

However, if you wanted to include one or both of the others (possibly with a fade out ala Arkham Asylum), that'd be cool too.  Anyway, I attached those three clips to this post so you could have a chance to look at them yourself.

SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Alright then Mucky Water, I'll watch the clips and see what we have here...  I'll post an Edit post later on tonight, if not tomorrow...
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Once again, I find myself stumped as to what to use since each of the three clips suggested are good and unique in their own way...  I wish though that there were more people who had an interest in the highlight reel...  I'm sure I would have finished a long time ago if I knew what clips to use...  But hey, at least it is getting worked on and will hopefully be finished very soon...

Again, Just need to make deciding choices on Metroid Prime 3, Star wars Shadows of the empire, Super Ghost and goblins, both toejam and earl games and the three Dragon age clips suggested...
Visit my profile to see my runs!
Here's my suggestion for Dragon Age: use the glitch clip then fade-out/fade-in to the clip where the dragon is killed (and only the part where the dragon is on screen, skip the glitch part of that clip).

Because you are clearly kind of attached to both ends of the Star Wars clip, let's do our third fade-out/fade-in for that too.  Actually, that clip might look better if you just make a hard cut to the second glitch instead of a fade so it'd look more like a glitch montage.  Anyway, with these super hard cases, don't feel compelled to narrow it down to one.  There's really no actual reason we need to shorten the video (if people want to show it at an event/convention later, they can cut it as they please because 99% of the work will be done by that point) or hasten its production, so don't feel stressed about it.

EDIT: Also, just use Level 22 for Toejam and Earl.  I'm making an executive decision on this one so we don't need to fish around for other opinions. lol
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
I know it isn't going to be used for anything special, but I still want to make sure that if there needs to be revisions, that they will be small changes and nothing to significant...  Outside of that though Mucky Water, I really do appriciate all your help in this...  You will receive an "honorable" mention once the final product (first draft) is ready...

Also thanks for mentioning for the first Toejam and Earl, now we need a decision on the 2nd TJ&E, along side with SG&G and Metroid Prime 3... >_<

No problem.  I've always said that SDA should do videos highlighting some of the best moments of the year.  I'm just glad you stepped up to the plate to glue these all together.

What might help for gathering more interest would be changing the name of this thread/taking possession of the first post.  I'll ask one of the moderators if you can have control of it.  That way, we can at least change the title to maybe something like "SDA 2010 Highlight Reel" or something so people know that this is still relevant.  I'm not sure if we want to keep this in the marathon forum or not ... because we could still use it at the summer marathon or something.  But, generally, this does not have to be here.

As for the second TJ&E, I think I might rewatch the 100% run sometime this weekend and find better clips for that.  I did not watch the 100% run before making my suggestions, and that run is in general more impressive.  We'll see if I can find something.

EDIT:  Thanks for ZenicReverie for changing the title of the thread!

S3K Knuckles run is uploaded here.

Quote from mike89:
Oh and if we can use clips from runs in the queue, my S3K Knuckles run has a couple of neat moments:
Hydrocity 2 (4:39 - 5:36) - Precise superglide on top of the wall to activate level skip, followed by perfect boss kill
Launch Base 2 (17:42 - 18:35) - Series of really precise ramp jumps (the one at 17:53 is a highlight!) culminating in first boss kill
Flying Battery 2 (27:16 - 28:21) - Starts at entering the laser boss, skips the laser boss (this will need explanation, thankfully there is plenty of dead time immediately afterward), finishes with super smooth boss kill

You probably only need one - let me know if you go with Flying Battery 2 and I'll whip up an explanation real quick.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
@Mike89: Once again I am at a loss of words from this excellent speed run of yours...  All three parts you suggested were great and I find myself in an awkward position trying to figure out which one of the three to use...  Granted that I could do another "Two clips in two minutes" but even so I feel that it wouldn't be doing the run justice...  If anything, I would probably say to leave the explanation for now and I'll see if I can add it later on...

Speaking of which, I have decided that I may hold off all other explanations needed until the 2nd draft of this video...  Reasons why is simple enough to figure out, but I think that I'll first post the first draft and then when I make revisions, the explanations can be added at that time if anyone needs to figure out what happened...  I'm currently in class right now, but as soon as I get out in a few hours, I'll go ahead and make the revision changes, and I'll post the revised time...
Visit my profile to see my runs!
I wonder how many of these videos will need explanations.  I think most of the stuff I've recommended is fine without recommendations, but I'm sure there are many from Zenic's list that might.  We need to have a decent balance, if we provide any explanations.  If we only have two or three out of like 40 clips, that might look weird.

Thanks to mike89 for his run!!!  God, that run kicks so much ass.

As for the clips, actually my favorite two are the first and the third.  While the third clip will make viewers wonder how you were able to skip the boss, I don't personally think an explanation is necessary (that doesn't mean we shouldn't provide one, but I think it's obvious what's going on ... what I was afraid of before watching it was that he'd run right past the boss or something and we would never see it, which would make guessing that anything was skipped a lot harder: ala the old Knuckles run).

Anyway, I'm actually going to go through the whole run and see what others options there are (not that you want an even harder choice or anything MAS, haha), because I know there are at least a couple things Mike didn't mention such as 7:25-8:25.

More from the Knuckles run: 1) About 6:30, warps from top of the level to bottom; 2) 24:25, another wall mounting glitch; and 3) 25:30-26:05, holy crap, I don't even know how to describe this, but it sure looks cool as hell.  Out of these extras, only Clip #3 and the one I mentioned at the end of the last post are really contenders, but what contenders they are!

Also, as part of my desire to leave no stone unturned, I checked out the verifier comments for Baten Kaitos and found a couple clips we could maybe use for that game.  As long as this run was, there weren't a lot of level-specific comments to choose from, so I would hope the runner would read this thread at some point and suggest clips if the ones I found are not the greatest.  Anyway, the first clip from the 73rd segment shows the ending to a fight that went quicker than it ever did before for the runner, and it shows off a move that was used heavily throughout the later part of this run, so it's a good representation.  The second clip is from the 72nd segment (I think this one is more climactic, so it should be second in order) and shows Apotheosis, which is probably the main character's most powerful move.  The moves in this game, by the way, are achieved through quickly selecting attacks based on the cards available in your deck, in ascending order.  Even though it's an RPG, the two clips together are only about a minute long (I tried to keep them as short as possible).

By the way, I still plan to go through TJ&E2 100% this weekend in order to either confirm the clips we already have or find better ones.

SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
One thing I would like to mention really fast before providing the daily status update...  When I was in my video editing class today, I told my teacher about what I was doing for the video and he was nice enough to give me a few pointers...  The main thing that I learned is that when you are editing videos, if you do not have any perimeters set, do what you want/can for now and then display what you have done as a first draft, which by that time, they will be set... In other words, since no one seems to be saying what should or shouldn't be done (besides Mucky) I'm going to do the video in the way I see fit for now and then after it is done, I would like to receive feedback to make sure that the video gets produced correctly...  That said, time for the daily update...

Alright then, came up with a few more decisions...

1) For super Ghost and goblins, both suggestions will be added since one is excellent platforming and the other is a boss fight that is done fast and all under 1:10
2) Metroid Prime 3, Considering that all three clips put together come up to 2:47 I will leave the choice of one of two ideas...  Either we leave in the first two suggestions together that is about a minute long or we only use the final boss fight alone...  Two bosses or Two final bosses?  Your pick people, if not I'm going to just leave in the final fight...
3) Shadows of the empire will just have the one stage in the sewers and will show the three times the runner glitched... need to make sure it is under two minutes, but that will probably work...
4) once again, going to leave commander Keen and Spelunker will be left on in there entirely making this the first highlight video to have 3 runs shown from start to finish (besides hero 3)
5) following mucky's suggestion, the both out of bound clips will be added for now to fade in and out for both for dragon age...
6) I still can't come to a final decision on Mike's knuckles run, so i'm going to rewatch the run and all the parts suggested again so that that can help with a decision...  So many good parts, I feel that a rewatch is in order for me too...
7) As for Baten Kaitos, I'm still reviewing the parts...  I think however, this might be the last game I let in because after I add the rest of the stuff I still need to add, that will make the video over 50 minutes and that is already going too far already...  There were alot of great moments in 2010, but we have to start drawing a line or we aren't going to get anywhere...

Still need to add Portrait of ruin, star wars, and remove one TJ&E2 and metroid prime 3, outside of that, we should be getting close to a first draft getting released...

Also I do have one other game in mind that I like to see added...  I have already sent a message to that individual and I'm crossing my fingers that he agrees...  If he does, I believe this will make the video even better, since sorting the videos will be much easier with it (Featuring videos of speed runs that are "coming soon?"  Genius...)

I like your game plan a lot.

As for Baten Kaitos, yeah, those clips were probably a bit of a stretch.  I'm kind of throwing everything at the wall at this point just to see what sticks.  Because I'm not burdened with organizing this thing, I tend to want the video as long and as stuffed with clips as possible.  But, even I admit that that video would be far less entertaining than one which was more selective and succinct.

What did you mean by decision #5? EDIT:  Nevermind

As for TJ&E2, I'm still of the opinion that choosing either of the things I suggested would be a mistake.  If you can wait, give me until the end of the weekend to go through the 100% run.  The hyper funk zone is not representative of the game, and it barely qualifies as platforming.  I still think it's impressive, but something from the main game would be better.  As for the funkvac, while it's cool and could be left in if I find a better supporting clip, it would be silly as hell to leave that on its own.

I'm intrigued by your last paragraph.  I can't think of something off the top of my head in the queue that is more exciting that Mike's runs, but I'll wait and see.

EDIT: Speaking of Mike, I think we have a gloriously difficult decision to make here.  I personally don't care if we use four clips from his run, but I guess I've already established my leniency there.  Out of the four I said I like, if I HAD to drop two, it would be the first one Mike suggested and the first one I suggested (that is, the one that was not Clip 3 in my list)

EDIT2: One thing I keep forgetting to do is keep my suggestions balanced.  A lot of suggestions are examples of cool glitches.  However, I don't want EVERYTHING the viewer sees to be a glitch, you know?  That gives the wrong impression.  So maybe I should not have overlooked the second clip Mike suggested so quickly.  For something like Dragon Age, we have the clip where he kills the dragon quickly.  That kind of thing helps.  We don't have to have examples of both glitches and non-glitches for everything of course (Shadows of the Empire, being a good example), but I don't want this to become "SDA Glitches 2010" either.
