Guess skipping those save points pays off. And without those small mistakes lower is possible.
I'm thinking of a way to skip that red bull and get enough soul for lv3 wind before I fight it. I noticed you had more soul then me and got the lv3 fire orb early, then I realized it's because you waited for the blue skulls to escape. I never do that unless they do it immediately.
Watching the run right now, you're issen work is pretty incredible. Quick thought: I wonder if the max amount of skulls you can get at once is 1000. I noticed the skullclouds & autoaim giving you a hard time after the first boss. All four of them gangbang on your souls, and you get 1000. Just a few minutes later, an Minatour is killed, and this time three skullclouds are killed, still yielding a whoping thousand.
Anyway, I just wonder if time can be saved by only killing three of them after the boss fight. I'll edit this post as the run progresses.
I was reading the beginning of this thread again, and I'm glad ya'll decided to SS this bitch. I'm really enjoying the run so far, a couple of lols (those damn swinging blades@35:37) but this is a very good demonstration of what is possible in this game.
@1:03 I wonder if the cool flippy move used earlier by the girl can be used to get over those scorpians instead of hacking at them. I'd be nice to have a save file before the Bee Boss, and see how fast of a time is within reason for her; I'd suggest by finding out exactly how much time takes place between her two hit windows for the wind&elect stradegy, and getting that down to a minmum. I just wanna say the stabbing strat for the dualwielding swordsman at 1:15 is pretty cool.
After all that, I'd say <1:05 is within reason, for sure. Sub-hour though sounds like it would be a stretch. I just don't see seven minutes worth of improvements, based on the path and stradegies demonstrated. Things went quickly here, and as far as I could tell, the rout is flawless and goes without a hitch. A couple of issen-accidents, 56:35-57:05 causes thirty seconds of damage to the run, but at the same time, this is what I found to be the biggest splooge here.
Regaurding what I said in the last post: at 58:15 Sammy ingests a huge 3520 souls. By this point in the game, the Oni Gauntlet has upgraded. Does the level of the gauntlet premit how many souls can be consumed at once? Here, you go from 0.75ish bars to 5.25ish using three skullcloud. Earlier, at Big O, you go from 1.25ish to 4.75ish using four. This may answer our question, but I'm still theorizing.
In short, nice run, Josh. This is all much more impressive then I could of hoped for only two weeks after the thread started.
Was bored and decided to see what the differences were between normal and easy. Aside from somewhat fewer enemies (just 1 enemy less in some areas) and I think bosses die a little bit faster not 100% sure though. Damage you receive seems about the same as normal. The run itself I sorta just meh'd my way through I got 1:06 (not really sure how. I half assed the entire time)
Joshkaz, I watched about 50 minutes of your run. So far it's looking really good, but I think the main areas that could use improvement are a lot of your bosses. Marcellus 1 in particular was a bit shaky. Also, the trap room with the +, X, and O tiles: Keep moving Samanosuke north, and Kaede should move up-right for her first tile, followed by moving north.
Your Issen is really good though. I can learn a lot from watching this video =p
Does levelling the Fire Sword really save that much time, too? What does that do exactly? I'm pretty sure you only need to collect the souls necessary to unlock doors.
There's something else I kinda-sorta thought about, but forgot somewhere in my thought process. I'll see if I remember when I finish watching it later; just picked up a 3DS today =p
The tile room is Random generated. So you can't really practice it. The Marcellus 1 fight wasnt that bad. Aside from getting hit once really nothing more I could've done besides not waste the fire magic when he was blocking. He'll always block the third hit in a combo so me whiffing one attack doesn't really change anything.
Also, leveling Enryuu to lvl 2 before Marcellus 2 makes the fight go faster.
Josh I watched your Youtube run! Very Awesome man!
I was amazed at the bee fight and Fortinbras!
I do think I have some tips that could save you some time, just let me know if you think i'm wrong.
1.On the first Marcellus fight I think that the lighting magic will be more effective than just hacking with the fire sword.
2. The X + Trap before water puzzle. I know that the room is randomly gen. but there is always a + Mark or a X Mark to the right or left of the door you as you enter the room.
I will tell you the fastest way to beat this puzzle listing my steps with the abc's
(a) First look at what the Mark is, to the left or right of the door. (meaning +mark or X-mark.)
(b) Whatever that mark is by the door that you choose, send Sam to the same mark farthest away from the door in the middle of the puzzle.
(c) Now It's Kaede's turn. You will move her to the mark to the left or the right of the door . (Both players are now on the same mark in different places of the puzzle.)
(d) Now it's Sam's turn again go to the same mark again farther up.
(e) Kaede's 2nd turn move her forward then right back on to the same spot she was just on.
(f) Repeat Kaede going back and forth while sam move's up on the puzzle.
(g) After all of this, It does not matter what the random puzzle set was, you should be able to get to the end with no trouble.
I think that every one knows this but I'll say it anyways if both players are on the same mark you will never fall in the pit.

I'm pretty sure he just blocks it even if you hit his blind spot.

If it's random, that begs another question: how many different permutations of the puzzle are there?
If you mean from when you first walk in, I don't think I've ever seen more than 2 versions, and I get the same one EVERY time. End it in 3, maybe 4 moves. I always make both stand on the same mark.
Im not sure how many different variations there are, but making them stand on the same mark works. (Jackerson told me)
Also, Marcellus 1 and 2 will block the lightning magic unless he lost his shield.
Ok. So when Marcellus 1 blocks does the lighting magic do any damage? If the answer is no, then I don't know what to think. Because when I was doing my runs I would run straight up to him and drop 2 fire magics, and then use lighting, sometimes he gave me magic back. After that I would use the magic I got, and then hit him a few times to kill him.
No need to try this though, unless your board. I will give my method another try and tell you how it goes.
So when Marcellus 1 blocks does the lighting magic do any damage?
To his shield, yes.

Did your fire magic hit his shield? or are you waiting for an opening after he whiffs an attack?
No every bit of magic hit his shield. Then when I did lightning attacks I got magic back, then I would change back to fire. It worked out real well. But like I said this weekend I will give it a try again. And then time the two, and see which is faster and let you guys know.
If this thread dies before a decent run is submitted I'm going to be so pissed. I got a copy of Super Smash Onimusha in the mail day before last, and it reminded me to check up and see what was going on here.
