But when you use the soul absorber it gives you a ton.

So my logic is.... If you spam all of your magic you could just get it all back quickly.

That could actually work if you get enough magic to fire them all again. Fortinbras can consume too much time sometimes.

Just got 1:09. I have a photo but no idea how to put it up here. I'll do so when someone shows me how.

What did you use to take the photo?
Also, attacking fotinbras' head once with enryuu then using fire or lightning magic seems/might do more damage then just doing magic.
Also, Doing Square, Square, Forward+ Square might do as much as Squarex3 and seems to be faster.

That's with a lv2 enryuu right? I'm sure lv3 only takes 1 hit to knock him back.

Have you confirmed if forward is more damaging? It does look faster and recovers faster too. Have to be careful with the distance though.

Actually you dont. If you do Square Square Forward square he'll always do The fast stab not the slow one. No matter the distance even when hugging him.

If the pic is on the computer use imageshack or photobucket.

Just did Square, Square, Forward+ Square for knocking Fortinbras down for two battles and I got 1:10 both while 1:11 for doing Square, Square, Square.
Also, was your strategies? for the 1:09 run?

Looking back, this time could be slightly improved. I got hit a few times and when I issened some black armor zombies I missed, and they also just stood around instead of attacking quickly. Just small things like this, maybe if I saved less. One part that annoys me is after the insect boss I go back to save and restock my magic for Marcellus so I have to backtrack to the keep entrance. And when you enter that stupid Dark Realm guy appears and talks a bit. Not sure if he counts as a cut-scene though. If so no problem.

Josh, my final save before Fortinbras is 1:04.

I used my first method of just enryuu on the tail and magic on his head. Luckily he dropped a few blue souls so I got in 4 fire magics before needed to switch. Then I just kept switching between enryuu for tail and lightning magic for his head. I finished him with wind.

I'll give your method a try too.

Hey I'm going to play oni 2 tonight for some fun.
tomorrow is my day off though and I will get serious again on this run, and I will try and think of new ideas.

I have a idea to getting a ps2 emulator on my computer. They won't work unless you have the game, but in this case we do.
So that could be a useful tool with saves stating and other things like reading frame rates.

Let me know what you guy's think.

Sorry about the quality. That's about the best my phone can do, but at least the time is visible.

I just tried your method Joshkaz. I still get 1:09, but that's probably due to his attacks. I noticed I can get in 3 hits quicker and I saw this after he tried to claw strike, I side-stepped, ran in and got in 3 hits before he could throw the wind. Usually this isn't possible without forward stab.

I also used your enryuu slash before using magic. It surely does more damage, but I guess his random attack pattern negated any time I could get. Or maybe 1:09 is the limit of what we can get. My time could be close to 1:10 but the game doesn't show us the seconds, so I probably saved those in this case.

At the end of the fight I used wind on his head, then another on his body and he fell almost instantly. I guess he was at the end of his HP.

Noticed you killed 17 more enemies and got 7220 more souls.

I can't remember the exact soul counts, but I remember generally what I did.

4 zombies at start. Critical hits and grabbed soul.
Osrik soul. During the fight he dropped some blue so I got in some extra magic attacks.
After Osrik with skull clouds, got about 5 bars and upgraded to lv2 fire and lightning. Saved.
Bull and skull clouds above rope ladder.

Ran to second floor keep and entered lv2 fire door to get the crest early.
Then to puzzle lv2 fire door. Saved here. Did the puzzles quickly.

Marcellus fight went perfectly. Did fire magic when he was open and absorbed souls and got some blue. Then dodge and hit him with fire sword when he's open. Got soul.

Upgraded to lv2 wind and did not save here like I usually do. Did the part with the bell and that without a problem, except just before the bell a reynaldo got me with its underground tentacle, slowed me down for a sec.

Did Kaede part without a problem. Saved before the gold and silver plate door.

As Samonosuke, saved before the clone. Clone fight went really well. Got in the free lightning at the start while he's standing there. Really sped up the fight. He then launched fireballs like 3 times and ate fire magic each time. Got soul.

In the next area I'm a little hazy. I know I had enough for lv3 fire, then saved before the red bull. I used the strategy of lining them up and hitting all of them with fire magic twice, killing the yellows, then used the rest on the red. Upgraded wind to lv3.

Issen on 2 black zombies outside. They waited around doing nothing and I missed a deflect, blocked a little too late. I almost reset then but decided to keep the red bull save file in case my overall time sucked.

When I ran back to the keep entrance to use the decorated sword, I know I stopped to fight yellow bulls and skulls. Issened the bulls and the skull clouds to as they tried to escape. Made a huge amount here.

I issened a black zombie by the waterfall bridge. And the 2 outside the tower. Inside issened the black by the lv3 wind door.
Inside I upgraded to lv3 thunder and got about 10 fire arrows. Saved here.

Kaede part went perfectly.

Insect boss went very well. Lv3 wind to drop her then lightning. Did this a few times and got some blue. Then soul absorber and fire arrows. It didn't take many, less than the amount I upgraded.

After cut-scene ran back to savepoint at keep entrance and saved. Had to listen to the DR guy. Not happy about that and the backtracking.
Refilled magic.

For Marcellus I used fire when he was open and he loses his shield in two shots. Then I cornered him with enryuu stabs until he broke out, then lightning magic. Got souls.

At final savepoint I upgraded enryuu to lv2 and saved. I've already posted about Fortinbras.

I just remembered some other things. In the keep at the start just before the stairs by the bow room, I used fire magic on the zombies in the tight hallway because they totally block the way. Also before the red bulls I cut the rope on the cart and killed 4 I think, or is it 3 plus the guy on the side?. You can run down at the same time and actually arrive at almost the same time. Issened the zombie that was on the side and grabbed all the souls. Coming back I remember slashing the archer in the way. There was the bugs in the boss fight too.

Just trying to remember every little thing I killed.

Joshkaz, the forward stab is definitely faster, and when you hold down forward and attack you can rapid fire it way faster then regular slashing. You've come up with a really excellent technique here.

Thanks to this I think I've come up with a new strategy. I'll need to test it a bit more.

I found that I wasn't needing to change to wind magic, but that's more because he dropped blue soul enough that I didn't have to. Then I got another idea.

Use wind magic to knock him down instead of enryuu stabs when you can. Since we still only have enough magic for 2 shots with each sword you need to absorb those blue souls.

So from the start, use wind. It won't knock him down but like 2 more hits from enryuu will so switch it quickly.
Stab his head then use fire magic.
You'll still have another wind ready to go, but he should also drop blue soul.
Use wind and fire method again.

Now you should still have enough to do this a third time, and usually he drops a large and small blue at the same time, though can be difficult to absorb if he's attacking but do it.

It seems that he (and other enemies in the game) will drop souls depending on your situation. He drops yellow if your low on HP and blue for magic, but I can't say for certain if he will always do this. I just noticed he dropped many yellow after I got hit by his attacks to save time.

Still can't get lower than 1:09 even with this faster method so I guess I'm only saving seconds.

Nice. I want to start a new game and fix any little mistakes so I'll watch out for this when I do. But I feel I need to give it a rest and I might have a look at Oni 2 for a change.

Yea, because of the third soul skull I can probably get wind to lvl 2 and fire to lvl 3 right after marcellus 1.
