RingRush's memory is correct regarding the method to skip Bottles' House. What he forgot to mention is that this REQUIRES the White Jinjo in the cave near Jiggywiggy's temple, because you won't have the necessary 1 Jiggy to open Mumbo's Mountain.

Of course, that's assuming my own crappy memory is accurate.

EDIT: Forgot you were talking about 100% Ignore what I said.

Okay, as I said I don’t know any% routes, and the fact that this is a SS run makes it different as well. That being said, I do have some things to say about what you have so far.

As mentioned, It is faster to NOT go through Bottles’ house. Run to the white Jinjo house, jump on the doorway, Talon Trot, jump, flutter, then Beak Bust to make it to the ledge - go in second entrance to Wooden Hollow. This skips a cutscene that you can’t skip if you go through Bottles’ house. This trick can be a little tricky to pull off, but considering that it’s at the beginning of the run it wouldn’t matter too much if you had to restart if you missed it. If you’re curious, this trick seems to save 10-11 seconds when I do it.

I want to mention this even if you already know - holding down the B button while flying will let you Beak Bomb forever (unless you hit something or run out of feathers). The run currently on SDA didn’t use this, and lost some good time because of it. You should be able to Beak Bomb from the top of the temple all the way to the Treasure Chamber without stopping.

Unless you need the extra Jiggy for opening levels later, saving the Swamp Jiggy until your second visit to the Prison Compound will save time. The reason for this is because you’ll only have to climb the prison once if you wait. The backflips needed to get on top are pretty slow; doing it twice is a waste, IMO. You can jump down near the top of the prison after getting the other Jiggy with a CWK Egg. I don’t think climbing it twice will waste too much time, but if you don’t need the Swamp Jiggy before you come back, skip it.

You plan to race Canary Mary, but you don’t plan to use the first race as a warp to the Train Station Warp Pad? Running the very slow Mumbo all the way to the Train Station feels like a waste. Think about changing the route up a bit, you could free Canary Mary as the Detonator, then go back in the Wigwam.

Glitter Gulch Mine 1:

-Grab shoes, get Glowbo, get Notes and Jinjo on the way to Cavern Jiggy, get Flooded Caves Jiggy - deathwarp
-Grab shoes, learn Bill Drill, get the rest of the Notes by the cabin (if needed, I don’t know the whole route), run to Mumbo’s Skull
-Collect Note on the bottom right platform, warp to entrance (activates pad)
-Grab shoes, run to Toxic Cave for Jinjo, Notes on hill, activate warp, go in shed and hit switch - deathwarp
-Grab shoes, run to the Wigwam and transform - warp to Mumbo’s
-Left for Notes, explode to break boulder - go in
-Open jail cell, continue to boulder and explode - deathwarp on TNT enemy
-Open room with Canary Mary, free her (explode on her cage) - Go back in the Wigwam and change back - warp to entrance
-Grab shoes, run to Fuel Depot for Notes, back out
-Break boulder, learn move, do Ordinance Storage (I have a faster route, but it requires Grenade Eggs for a deathwarp, so your way is fine)
-Get Jiggy, go race Canary Mary
-Beat her, grab Jiggy, get Jinjo under boulder, activate warp pad - race her again
-Skip Cheato Page, run to entrance and grab shoes - warp to Mumbo’s (don’t cancel the shoes)
-Left, grab the Glowbo, go to jail cells, grab jail Jinjo (can be tricky with the shoes, but it’s faster if done right)
-Run through tunnel, break boulder, get Generator Jiggy with trick you mentioned, go back to the Power Hut
-Get Power Hut Jiggy (turn brightness up on your TV if needed) - deathwarp
-Warp to Mumbo’s, get Notes on upper right platform - change to mumbo
-Warp to Crushing Shed, use the pad and collect the Jiggy shards for a Jiggy
-Warp to Train Station and use Mumbo pad - deathwarp
-Change back to Banjo and Kazooie, warp to entrance and exit GGM

**You can do the Power Hut Jiggy before the Generator Jiggy, it just might be hard to make it back without falling to your death.

You plan to get the Water Storage Jinjo with a CWK Egg, but you don’t plan to get the Treble Clef? The Treble Clef is in the water VERY close to that Jinjo. Maybe consider getting it, if needed. Just as a reminder, coming into GGM through MT means that, if you die, you’ll start in Bill’s cabin. A deathwarp on your second visit may or may not save time. The cabin is pretty close to the entrance, so it shouldn’t really be a problem.

Anyway, not knowing all of your Note and Jiggy pickups, I can’t really say what you can and can’t skip. So the route I gave you for GGM contained all of the pickups you had planned to get. That’s all I have to say for now.
- Never tried the Bottles' House skip, I guess I'll work on that. I remember it being impossible to do from when I played this game religiously as a kid, so that's why. An another subject, I also suck at getting on top of the Red Jinjo House without Grip Grab. I did manage to get up there once, and then couldn't in the next 20 or so attempts, and I have no idea what I did wrong. So unless there's some foolproof method of doing those just-barely-possible Beak Buster tricks, the bulk of them probably aren't worth it.

- Yep, know about the Beak Bomb trick. When I ran MT the other day, I actually managed to bomb straight into the Jinjo, and then straight into (and past) the Jiggy - consecutively, and on my first try. I then proceeded to slam into the side of the treasure chamber and had to bumble back to the flight pad and try again, where I once again failed, and managed to waste time picking up the cheato page as well. Just takes practice I guess.

- Swamp Jiggy is skippable, yes. I should still be leaving MT with 8 Jiggies if I don't get it, and that's enough to open Witchyworld. And then Canary Mary's makes up for it in GGM, since I originally wasn't getting that one on the first trip. Not sure how many you actually need to open TDL, so I'm just sort of hoping it will work out. That's why I'm getting as many Jiggies as I can early on if they don't seem like they could be gotten faster later on.

- I did plan on using the Canary Mary race to reach the train station originally, but since you can do that clockwork trick, I decided against it. I suppose it doesn't save very much time though, so that's fine. My routes basically consist of drawing paths over the level maps and trying to make them look as short as possible - no actual timing is involved.

- I'm skipping the Treble Clef in the second GGM run because at that point, I already have Shack Pack and Glide, and I'm not getting Sack Pack. There's no need for notes after that point of the game. If it turns out that my note totals aren't high enough by the time I'm going to HFP, then I can go out of the way to grab it, but then that would require two separate trips to the Water Storage room.
The fastest method of getting the Treble Clef on the red Jinjo house is simply to use a CWK Egg. I suppose there could be a reason to get it earlier, though.

I’ve recorded myself skipping Bottles’ house, if you’re interested.

Beginning to think I'm not cut out for speedruns. List of reasons why:

- I can't get everything done with the golden goliath in time. Apparently I need to be 3 seconds faster, and I don't see how. It's not like I'm dawdling or taking zigzagging routes everywhere, so I guess it just really is a matter of following an exact route and kicking things from as far away as possible. I reset the game and tried again, and then missed the fly pad boulder, which of course wastes even more time, so I just said "screw it" and didn't bother activating the warp in JSG.
- The Canary Mary race is going to be the death of me. In my playthrough last week, I was able to beat the race for the Cheato page in CCL on my first try, and didn't even get tired doing so. But that's because you can try to match her speed. Here when you have to go all-out, I get tired in like 15 seconds and can barely win. I'll have to practice my arm-vibrating skills or find another method that works. I tried rubbing a pen over the button and Banjo pretty much came to a screeching halt.
- Ordnance Storage was "meh". Kept missing the dynamite bundles when I went to attack them, and I took the wrong door once or twice.
- Power Hut Basement was terrible. Took me four tries to actually get through, and when I finally did, it was only because I was going slow as hell. I didn't want to use Fire Eggs to light the way because I have to get used to doing it in the dark, but what the crap. I had the tv brightness turned up to 100 (it's usually on 40, there's a massive difference) and I still couldn't make out any of the platforms.

For those last two bits I suppose it's just a matter of memorization, but sloppiness in some other areas (like my total inability to avoid health drops when I'm trying to deathwarp - I picked up a total of four just trying to get out of the really sacred chamber) are a bit discouraging. If I could play this with a keyboard then maybe it would be better, because I fail pretty badly with analog sticks.

I'll keep working on it anyway, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed.

Hey so I got an RTA time of 4:12 in this game the other day doing any % which is definitely improvable...but good.

Jish, the power hut is really easy with Kazooie solo you just kind of flap through and there are split up pads right there (unless you want to do it on your first visit where you don't know split up yet).  Also Canary Mary is pretty easy with a big pen, you just have to practice it.

Also I was wondering if anyone could tell me about this Banjo clip into Hailfire Peaks that Jish mentioned in an earlier post?  I feel like that could be game breaking, maybe skip a trip to Hailfire Peaks.

Again I stream this game once in awhile on www.twitch.tv/sirenabeacher
If done correctly...

If I'm thinking correctly, you can stand on the lanterns while they're off, so you should be able to jump from lantern to lantern to get the jiggy without having to change the brightness settings at all.

Also, I really want to know more about Banjo's clip as well; the trick might be able to change the routes considerably!

Here's the Banjo clip thing. It's not in English, so I don't totally understand it, but the video at least shows how to do it.
The glitch starts at about 2:50. Apparently showing the game boot up and getting all the way there was of vital importance.

The Goliath part is very strict, it seems. I just tried it and made it on the very last second. Literally, as I grabbed the Jiggy the timer ended.

Question - if you’re doing an any% run, why were you racing Canary Mary for the Cheato Page on CCL? You only have to race her once on CCL for the Jiggy. The pen method didn’t work for me at first either. I’ve learned that some pens work better than others. What you want is a pen that has a smooth base and is rounded on the bottom; it also helps if the pen has a little flex to it. Rest the controller on your leg, and your pen arm on your body. Keep your index finger pressed down on the tip of the pen, over the A button. Press down, but only so much that you actually press the button. Press too hard and your arm will get tired. Rub it right and left over the button. It doesn’t have to be as fast as you can go, try to keep a nice pace that doesn’t tire you out. Also, don’t bother looking at the TV while racing her, concentrate on the A button. That’s how I do it. I don’t get tired and I can beat her 100% of the time. Not saying it’ll work for everyone, but trying it can’t hurt.

Ordnance Storage can be a pain. I just practiced it over and over until I was happy with my performance. There’s no real secret to it.

If the Power Hut Jiggy is too hard for you, consider going to WitchyWorld before you go to Glitter Gulch Mine. That’s how I do it in my 100% run. It allows me to use a faster route in Ordnance Storage, and use Split Up for the Power Hut Jiggy. Click the attachment to see how I get the Power Hut Jiggy.

Right now, I can't find anything interesting with this trick, but I have gotten Kazooie to a spot where Banjo tells her not to leave him alone; I've also gotten both of them on that spot, and Humba Wumba tells you that you can't enter another world with the magic abilities you have or something...?
I may play with it some more later, but I doubt that much can happen with this trick, sadly. Sad
I only did the 4th Mary race to see how hard it would be. It wasn't for a speedrun or anything, it was just playing through and skipping Jiggies that seemed like they would take a long time. And also skipping all Jinjos until halfway through the run and then going back and getting them all. My time for beating the game was about 6 hours, which I consider pretty good considering I had absolutely no route, got a lot of slow Jiggies, and died/screwed up very often.

Problem with doing Witchyworld before GGM is that you wouldn't have Bill Drill for the Cactus of Strength, which is a pretty fast and easy Jiggy that I'd hate to skip. And my route doesn't revisit WW at all.

Glad to know the goliath route is difficult though, because that means I'm not the only one. I'll practice it a bit and if it seems really hard to pull off, I'll just skip the Jinjo. My route has you deathwarping in Targitzan's Temple, which places you at the entrance, so you still have to run to the level exit afterwards, and when I did it today in a practice run, I just jumped straight into the pond where the Jinjo is. Would only take a couple seconds to get it that way.
For the Goliath route I assume you are grabbing two jinjos, opening two doors, touching the warp pad and getting the jiggy.

Honestly though skipping the warp pad in Jade Snake Grove is not that big of a deal because we need Grip Grab anyway.  Just warp to the world entry/exit to get into Jade Snake Grove and you can grab the move on the way to Slumber or whatever you need in Jade Snake Grove depending on your route.

Your idea of grabbing the underwater jinjo later is acceptable too, it just depends on preference I guess.
Quote from sirenabeacher:

Nope - he’s opening the Prison Compound, getting the water Jinjo, breaking the boulder on the flight pad, activating the warp pad in Jade Snake Grove, and getting the Goliath Jiggy.

Ah, you have to visit WW more than once in a 100% run, so saving the cactus for later is no problem for me.

Just throwing this out there, you can get the Jinjo behind the Grip Grab silo by kicking it with the Goliath. If you do skip the water Jinjo you’ll need something to kill the timer so that you’re not standing around after getting the Jiggy.
I don't know if this trick could help out with any routes, but I'll show it here anyways:

A few hours on emulator with speed up and a few cheats for convenience, and I think I have found all possible jinjo patterns in this game. At least, I found 32 of them and couldn't find any more, so I hope that is all of them. For each pattern I only noted down the first five jinjos I encountered while testing...help flushing out the full 45 locations would be appreciated!

Locations: (1) Jade Snake Grove, (2) Pool of water in MT, (3) On top of kickball stadium, (4) On bridge behind temple, (5) In tunnel by Jiggywiggy's Temple

If anyone encounters a pattern that isn't on this list, please post here. Hopefully this jinjo randomness can be finally solved, so we can decide the optimal jinjo manipulation for any%. Furthermore, for any% SS runs, this will let people figure out which pattern they have (and thus which jinjos to not even bother getting) based on the first few jinjos they see.

Edit: Free to edit, but I have original backed up in case people mess with it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhS5G4xJpozUdGJvaHU2MmxsWEZoY0dsSW93TkUtNVE#gid=0

I've been doing runs of this game and i wrote down 7 patterns based off skipping the jinjo that requires the big T-Rex.  I figured that out of all the colors to skip, whatever is behind that gate would be the optimal one to skip.

There was one pattern where a white jinjo is in the water at the beginning of MT and it ends up with a pink behind the gate which i feel is the best pattern i've seen (you get an early jiggy and you skip 8 jinjos!).  By your pattern it is the one that is brown white green pink red that i am talking about.  (Also I thought these jinjos were purple not pink...)

I can help update your doc if you want but I only have the ones i mentioned written down.  I have most of the runs recorded so i can always look back if you want more jinjo colors...

Nice job though Ringrush, i really wasn't about to find all 32 or however many you found!
Hey guys, I have a bit of an update for you.

I've finished the 100% segmented run that I started back in November/December, but I'm not going to submit it. Pretty early into the run I decided to make it more of a practice run. I had a few reasons for doing this, mostly because I found some improvements that I overlooked. I'm actually happy about this because I'll be able to produce an even faster run in the future. I know of at least a full minute of improvements, not counting the time I can make up from the later segments of the run, which were ran rather casually.

The final time after defeating Hag 1 was 4:16:34. For the upcoming run my goal time will be between a high 4:14:00 and mid 4:15:00.

Note: in order to see my final totals I had to select the file and pause the game; this adds two seconds to the timer. Final time is 4:16:34.

So, yeah, a run is on the way. It's just going to take some more time.
<(^_^)>
nice! looking forward to the improvement Smiley
SEGA Junkie
Oh, awesome! I had no idea this was even being worked on still. Great news!

I definitely look forward to seeing the end result of this Cheesy
I'll try to keep you updated with my progress, just so you know I'm not dead. I like to finish the things I start, so I'm definitely not going to drop the run. I haven't started yet, I'm making sure to check everything before I start this time. I've pretty much got it all planned out, right down to the very last egg pickup. Just putting the final touches on it before I get back into it.
Is PJ
Oh man.  I am SO excited for this, you have no idea.  Any chance of uploading your segmented run for us to watch while we wait for your improvement?  ^_^

Good luck on the improvement!  I'm really glad to see this game getting the attention it deserves.
I've decided against uploading my current run, sorry. I'd prefer to spend my time working on the improvement. Speaking of which, I'm probably going to start it in a day or two. I've ran through the whole game a few times and everything looks good to me.

Something I want to ask, are console resets allowed? The game auto-saves so I abuse resets in order to skip some cutscenes. This is a segmented run so I assumed it wouldn't be a problem. I just need to know if this is against the rules.
<(^_^)>
i wouldn't know, but I'm guessing you can probably just segment it at those resets
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
That sounds fine.
SEGA Junkie
Yeah, the game auto-saves so that's a legit segment break.
