Initial Dungeon 4 stuff:

First off: My god, the lag... I didn't think the game eating inputs was that awful until I got to this dungeon. I fall into pits, fall off edges etc constantly due to eaten inputs.
The partial ice physics that is the floor in this dungeon is a nightmare.

Entrance room:
It's almost possible to run off the ledge at the top and into the trigger for the doorway at the bottom, but it seems to be just too far away Sad
The best way to deal with the rats are to send them off the edges or ignore them.
The last 2 turns of the stairwell can be skipped, just pass the wooden "square" of the 2nd last turn (continue one stair-step), then turn 180 degrees and side-step off. (Important to side-step, otherwise you'll end in the acid)

You can turn switches when your back is turned to them apparently. Was going to deal with a scorpion behind me, turned the switch instead.
Might make it easier to deal with some switches, no idea. Test it.
Might make it possible to skip the fight with the 2 pigs in Dungeon 2 to unlock the grape door.

It is often an idea to shoot empty and refill your arrows if you are close to a refill after a puzzle. (Example first banana key)

It's easy to hit the 3 targets, in the first room locked by a banana key, from the same position, just aim for the very edges (towards the walls) of the side targets when the far saw isn't blocking. If I tested correctly the close saw will not block those shots at all.

In the room with the chainsaw targets, cross the final gaps BEFORE taking the last chainsaw, get the arrow refill first as well if needed, then shoot the last saw, and deal with the rats from a safe position.

Now: Can you tell me how to solve the 3 paw-buttons in that same room? I cannot get them to activate.

I'll see if I can figure out a way to hit the loading zone of the doorway. I have a feeling you might just die even if you hit it though. For the rats, I've just been ignoring them. For that tiny little stair skip, I just run off. No need to sidestep since you can run while strafing and make your turning much sharper.

I've found that I hit switches 100% of the time by running up to them, releasing the analog stick while pressing Shield, then pressing Attack. I believe you can also turn while the switch animation is playing.

For the room with the swinging blade targets, you can actually hit them even when they're way out of the draw distance. Or you can just turn around and fire an arrow after passing them. No reason to go into aim mode. For those rat archers, I just take them out with the sword since it's faster than shooting them with arrows.

The 3 Paw buttons is not actually a puzzle. The only one you need to hit to continue is the one on the far left (if you're facing them). That opens a path at the beginning of that room, and you get plenty of time to run over there and keep going.

If you hit the loading zone before you die, you should end up with the same effect as the entrance to Dungeon 1. (rope skip)
Couldn't do that stairs skip by just running, maybe I just suck, same with the archer rats, tested your method and just died horribly every time.

For the paw buttons... is there anything else I need to hit before pressing that button (besides the 4 saw blades)? I just cannot get it to activate. If not, I probably found a new glitch that can kill a run.
animal people aaaaa
No you should just have to shoot down all the saw blades with targets on them in that room. Then you hit the switch and run all the way to the beginning of the room where a new path should be open? Do you hear the timer ticking sound after you press it?

Then I've done everything. There's no ticking sound, and the buttons only flash once, they don't stay lit, and nothing opens. I'll try to make a video of it.
I really hope this is not a common random glitch in the game. It would suck to lose runs so far into the game because of something this stupid and outside of player control.
animal people aaaaa
Definitely make a video for this, because I haven't seen this at all during my play.

I made some attempts tonight. They all died in the 2nd Dungeon though. I'll post up highlights/archives tomorrow.

I didn't discover anything new last night, besides another way to softlock the game:

I also had a complete brain fart in the double switch room and ran around in circles for a good five minutes before turning the stream off and going to bed.

I'm going to start typing up a route guide for this game soon.

Here's the glitch I mentioned in action, I have not pressed the buttons prior to the times in the clip.
I hope you won't encounter this one in Dungeon 4 during an attempt.
This is the first time I am capturing this kind of stuff, so I hope it turned out watchable.

Will start a new game so it might take some time before I can continue investigating Dungeon 4.

EDIT: Since I started over I tested some things in the early game again:

Training: Jumping into the first arrows-pickup during training prevents the game from freezing you during the text box.

Dungeon 2:
The jumping for the flame-skip is not necessary, but the time-frame to not jump is slightly tighter.
Tested to see if the timer was beatable for the grape-door guarded by the 2 pigs (before the ice physics), it's not. Sad
The 2-set buttons banana-key room: Don't worry if the timer for the first set of buttons (yellow) run out, even when chased by the pigs, I make it so that I can jump up on the pedestal as it's rising.

Oh, and if you want to credit me, please say my nick right Tongue

Oh wow. Yeah I haven't come across that yet.

I made some attempts this weekend, none of which got past Dungeon 2 lol. But I did discover some stuff.
-In the room with the Grape Door and two pigs, if you hug the left wall when you first enter that room, the pig that comes in behind you won't see you. You can then run up to the door and unlock it without much trouble from the second pig.

-The room with the Banana Key and cloud, once you're able to get the key, you can do so by just running off the ledge and onto the cloud.

(Sorry about mispronouncing your name. The combination of Warewolf and Vampire twists my tongue)

I caught the archived stream, the RNG with those tiny floating platform-paths after the piano puzzle was just evil, and there was some general bad luck/mistakes, but the first segment is starting to look pretty solid. I discarded that trick with the pigs as I only managed to almost pull it off once, and decided it was impossible (for a human) to do. Nice work finding it and making it useful Smiley

I just entered Dungeon 3 again and tested some stuff trying to get up on the platform for the exit in order to skip the entire thing. I remembered that in some games pausing and unpausing the game gives you a window where the game thinks you're on the ground and can jump again. Unfortunately, Kingsley isn't one of them Sad I did however discover that if you time it right, the animation will kinda reset, completely useless but it looked a bit funny.

So, that glitch happens every time for me, I think my disc is bad and there is some kind of read-error causing this. I have to find a new copy of the game, it might take a while.
animal people aaaaa
Oh man sorry to hear about your switch issue Sad

When you tested the pause/unpause, did you try using select as well?

Select wasn't as useful as that menu wouldn't open until after I landed from any fall/jump.
animal people aaaaa
I tried some testing with pause/unpause and select and didn't have any luck with anything either.

I found that you can go out-of-bounds in Poorluck village, but it doesn't seem like you can do anything with it. If you go too far, you fall into invisible water and get rocketed back to the mainland. I just wanted to see if I could get into the Poorluck Dark Knight fight early game why won't you let me break yooooooooooou

I did some offline practice runs this weekend and I really wish I had been recording because my splits say I got a 9:03 for dungeon 1, and I can't remember what I did so well to get that time. So I either screwed up my splits, or sub 9 minutes on dungeon 1 is possible.
Heavy Metal Powered
Sick time, I hope you manage to do it again so I can see it Tongue

For fun I hashed my Kingsley disc and compared it to Redump. My disc generates a completely different hash than what a good copy should, so mine is definitely bad. I am looking for a new one but it's not a popular game here, and I got really lucky with the one I found. I haven't seen another copy yet.
animal people aaaaa
I wasn't able to find a local copy when I got mine. I had to order it off of Amazon for about $15.00.
I'll probably do some more practice runs tonight. If I don't stream, I'll at least record them to post on Youtube later. If I can get a constant sub 9 dungeon 1, even with a bad Gallagher pattern, I'll be really happy.

Has there been any progress made?

And to answer the "question" you posted. I'm in Europe, getting an NTSC copy is not cheap nor fast if I am to get one from USA, I might have to resort to that though. I kinda want to play on an NTSC copy though since you do, and a PAL copy might behave different or have different timings.
animal people aaaaa
Been taking a short break. I tend to preform better at games I've been practicing once I've taken a break. Not sure how much streaming I'll be doing with SGDQ this weekend.

I think there are usually some speed/loading differences between NTSC and PAL versions.
animal people aaaaa
Double Post but whatever:

Did a bit of practice while watching SGDQ. Managed to shave 17 seconds off of the training section. It really shows how much the arrow section has been eating up my time. More so than the first "fight".
Heavy Metal Powered
That's some good news. Managed to incorporate the arrow-pickup trick in a run yet?
animal people aaaaa
Not yet. I don't think I've ever gotten it to work properly for me. I still get stopped by a text box when I jump into the pick up. So I'm probably doing it wrong lol

I'll try to make a video of it in action.

I can't replicate it now, must have been one of those random things, like when that door in Dungeon 1 just didn't open for you during the re-spawn sequence.
What happened when I triggered it was that I picked up the arrows, and after that could move around, with the text box active, and pressing X just closed the box, still able to move and use the arrows after.
animal people aaaaa
So chances are it's a really precise trick, or a completely random game bug lol.
That's unfortunate though.

I wonder if I should look around in training more and see if I can find a way to speed it up. I thought I might have been able to clip through a wall in the training fight (between the wall and one of the statues in the corner), but I wasn't able too :T Actually there's a lot of walls in this game that look like I should be able to clip through them but can't haha.

I decided to practice Dungeon 2 since Dungeon 2 likes to end every single run I attempt. This practice was not good at all, but there were some improvements http://www.twitch.tv/bxfenns/b/547658830
I've learned that I can just do the Dungeon 2 entrance skip when I count on 1, instead of what I was counting/timing before. Makes that first skip easier~
