i was also thinking about that for a long time, and came to a decision that i will stop recording once EVERYTHING has been done in order to win, not once he says you've beaten the level because that would waste time and confuse me (because i dont know whether i should stop when it changes text at the bottom, or when he says you've conquered the realm fully OR when the Success! proceed to the next realm appears). Another reason i do that is because i also observed engima novas runs and he too, does not include "you've conquered this realm" in his runs either.

I dont get it, just stop when you go to the end level statistics screen, till then you are still playing the level ....
And that's exactly what enigma_nova did, and that's why i get confused when seeing your run. To be more explicit :
once you can press spacebar and acces to end level screen that's where the level ends, and you must record till it happens. When defeating a knight or all heroes you can immidiately press spacebar but when you kill a dungeon heart you must wait till it explode, only then you can press spacebar.

oh.. didnt know that killing a heart and killing a knight are different things. Also dont forget that fraps does not capture anything but the game itself (no field with flags, no statistics no nothing). So there are 2 short levels that must be redone (6 and 8)? No biggie.

edit: I wont reupload youtube videos either way (no point), ill just re-do them and keep them until i decide to submit the run.

Well that's not so bad since you just could start fraps before clicking the flag and stop it at ending screen, it will just record the level and you can trim the rest which is black.


btw my strategy for lvl 4 is faster then 9:00 ^^

Because yea, i do have some of the original fraps videos. By the way, couldnt they just add a penalty to my times instead of me re-doing some levels?

I'm doing some runs and try to beat your times, but i wont submit or do an official thing so i give you my strategies with pleasure Cheesy

For submitting you should rerun lvl 7, it looks too sloppy. Maybe you can add some fun or whatever to kill time. What would be GodLike is to capture a thief and make him knight  Shocked :p.
I've also beat your lvl 2 time (i did 22x sec) but i'm always 30 sec behind your lvl 3 time (stupid tunnelers^^). And i beat your lvl 9 time too but i should redo it, and i want try with a creature transfer first.
For lvl 9 it involves capturing the upper left library so you have 2 creature upgrades to make your horny lvl 5 asap. Other than that its just like your run exept for bile demons and i dont try to kill those archers.(and yes i capture the hidden lvl too)(the time is a little more then a payday, but with good strategies and no mistake and some luck it could be less Smiley )

edit2: just saw zyzzyva's edit. My strategy for level 20 is immediatly research lightning, kill tentacles, capture avatars castle (in the middle), kill heart, proceed to avatar, use increase lvl bonuses, dig to all spawn points, place boulder traps near spawn points, kill the avatar in prison with cave-in spell, and just finish the other avatar with lightning. That took me around 25 minutes (i think, or maybe 30).

Yes , competition is great, i'm aiming your times but for lvl 3 i just cant  :-[ And you are faster for rushing levels (like lvl 6 or 8)

I just put my strategy into action, I think I finished in about 30 or 40 minutes, and considering that I don't really use speedrun techniques, I think it's pretty good. It is also a bit more risky than your strategy. I immediately build the library and training room, and research with my dragons while training the bile demons. Once I have about 10 to 12 creatures, I use the increase level specials and dig north from the training room along the bridging path. I drop all my creatures into the training room and while my creatures fight the tentacles, I possessed a dragon and broke through the magic door to the right. Then I made my way to the dungeon heart. I unpossessed and built a workshop and dropped the bile demons in, then I possessed the dragon again and destroyed the heart. I placed boulders near the spawn points while killing the avatar with my dragons, and then killed the rest of the heroes.

Notes: Must obey speeds up all your creatures as though they have been slapped. Use it immediately.

I'm not sure whether or not killing the avatar with cave-in is faster or not, but I had almost no money left at the end and it sounds expensive.

Sacrifice the flies and beetles to speed up your research and manufacturing.

Using disease on the final avatar kills him much more quickly.


I hope this is a faster strategy than your current one, but I really don't know. Mine is essentially identical to yours anyway, just with more things going on at a time. Good luck.

yea, i didnt post lvls 2-5 because im lazy and because i didnt think anybody would be interested in watching enigma nova's re-runs. However your runs are worth posting so could you pls post level 2 anyway? Just curious of the exact time..

But i have a qustion, how come when i slay the 2 dwarfs and the theif (which you do @ 2:30) i have to wait a minute and a half like a moron for the other dwarfs that spawn in the castle? i tried everything... its incredibly annoying. However, you only had to wait 15 seconds for some reason  (2:30 after 2 dwarfs/thief and 2:45 new monsters spawn) Huh?

i just look total noobish with my 7:20 for lvl 4 ^^

for lvl 11 at the end you dont need to kill those witches, because the knight come anyway if the heroes creature count is less then 3 (and there are only 2 witches), and the win condition is to kill the knight only Smiley

You also can see my leet technique for optimising lair room with less money ^^,i just do 1 tile lair room not connected with another 1 tile lair, it look like a chess board. e.g. if you have money for 3 lair tiles, instead of connecting them and thus have room for only 1 creature you can do 3 separate lairs 1 tile each that can welcome 1 creatures each, thus 3 total creatures.
Same technique can be applied with other rooms to prevent appropriate creature not to come.(i believe for exemple that if there is no more room in the training room, no demonspawn will come because they need 1 training room, but i could be wrong its just my impression)

I also tried to do your lvl 8 technique but the keeper AI wont cooperate  Cry

And i just saw that lvl 17 has a timer, the boss come at 26:40  Undecided

Nice strategy for separating the lair tiles, but it won't work for the training room. As I posted before, when you have less efficient rooms, your creatures train more slowly, not helpful at all. Also, I'm fairly sure that it's the total number of tiles, not the size of one room, but I may be wrong on that. Great job on your run, I'm sure it will be very helpful for getting 11214 to beat your run by several minutes  :D.

11214, excellent job on your runs, it was great to how much the times have improved since enigma_nova couldn't get flowerhat below 12 minutes. Keep going.

Yes, the sad part is that i'm trying hard to get those times  Cry (well, maybe not 50 attempt but 7-8 to test the strategy and 4-5 to record -_-')

Well, in theory and in the manual, for attracting the creatures it is indeed the total numbers of tiles that matters. But when doing some levels (like lvl 4) i first went for a line of training room to attract demonspawns, but after the first has come i alwas got flies or beetles :/ and by separating the training room i got more demonspawns. Same for the library, if i stop at 9 tiles, after the first sorceror i often got flies or beetles.


Edit:
Maybe you are not aware of this but ctr+(1-5) saves a map location and shift+(1-5) access that location (used it for lvl4 to quickly get the 2 increase level)

lvl 9 was nicely done zoonel, gj. Unfortunately i can only play on weekends though, and heres my plan for the next weekend: re-do lvl 1 (i think i can get under 3:30), do lvl 14 and maybe 15, and then re-do lvl 9 if i have time.
p.s To be honest, levels 10-13 are boring to watch and were boring for me to run (stupid rushing with horned reaper and killing hearts), but lvls 14-20 is where the fun begins :D.

I cant wait to see lvl 14 ^^, i thought it would be a Horny rush to kill those wizards, but its a lot more complicated  :o.

I did some high levels, here are my thoughts :

lvl 14: its a hard one, 5 lvl 8 wizards is damn hard to kill. And while you try, the 2  keepers comes to annoy you. Maybe a quick bridge research may help.

lvl 15: easy one. Dig to the water and send an imp while doing the corner trick. Dig to both AI keepers, then send the reaper to finish whats left. Dont go near the castle, so you only need to kill the 2 samurais and the knight.

lvl 16: medium one. With a lvl 9 reaper just rush and kill. Whithout a transfered creature it can be done fairly quickly, you "just" have to kill both orcs with the boulder trap and then finish the enemy  with the two reapers (lvl2 if you train them).

lvl 17: easy. Do whatever you want till 26:40 (3 paydays + 100 sec), then kill the knight with boulder traps. Should'nt take more then 1 sec to kill the knight!


lvl 18: easy, whe already know the strategy to use thanks to zyzzyva  Smiley

lvl 19: easy, rush and connect the good one vs the bad one (you being the evil one  ;D).

lvl 20: the hard one :s . I'm sure a sub 20min is possible. I did one "run" in 23:30, i dont see another strategy then boulder traps for the final assault. Killing the first avatar with lightning is fast because he doesnt heal himself when not in battle.

Here is a little table of each level and the winning conditions, A+B->C mean A and B must be done to proceed to C . It also shows the lower time bound based on timers and minimum creatures requirement ; the format is GameTurns[seconds=hh:mm::ss].

just did lvl 14 sleepiburgh (or w/e) in 5:25. Not sure if my strategy was the best but the time isnt that bad :P. Will upload it tomorrow.

@zoonel: Have you tried lvl 14 yet? Anyway, Nice lvl 17 trick with the boulders. I guess i gotta re-do lvl 11 and 7 now (not sure if you're allowed to have boulders on those levels, but lightning traps would still be nice either way).
Also, very nice level 19 strategy, i wouldnt have thought of that. My plan for lvl 19 was to xfer a lvl 10 vampire and do it in about the same amount of time. I guess i dont need to pop a locate hidden world in lvl 9 anymore.

edit: Here we go.. level 14 Sleepiburg in 5:25

by the way, i have a question: Why does this guy in his video have 1 lvl 8 wizard and the rest are lvl 4?
Very odd... Cheating? If there are indeed supposed to be 4 wizards (1x lvl 8 and 3x lvl 4, instead of 5x lvl 8 ) then i can greatly reduce my time of 5:25 on that level.

A pure rush strategy might be possible, but without a segmented run i wouldnt try it ^^ I managed to kill 2 wizards, but couldnt kill the 3 remaining and when they reach 9 and 10 they are quasi-impossible to kill. And i dont think it would save a lot of time, si i think your strat is close to optimal Wink
One a side note, this is the level i hate speedrun :p.

I did lvl 20 in 21:39 and the second part of the strategy is still sloppy, i'm sure at 99% that a sub 20 min is possible.

ps: for lvl 17 i tried to roll in circle the maximum number of boulders but the heroes came before i could launch them :p

ok.. i've redone level 1 in 3:27. Just had to reupload it because its almost perfect (or perfect).


i've also redone lvl 9 (captured the locate hidden world too, just in case :P) but i wont reupload it (no point).
What time did you get on Moonbrush Wood (level 9)? Also remember that you still have to get the horned reaper to level 5 to match up with the next level, but you probably knew that.

As for Sleepiburgh (level 14) looked slightly sloppy, not that I blame you. You got an excellent time on it, but there were a few issues, such as the horned reaper being frozen. You only lost a few seconds, but you may want to redo it later.

7:53, zoonels time was good, so there wasnt much i could improve on. And of course its the same in the sense that ive done everything i did in my old run of 11:20, just faster. The fact that i have to get horny to lvl 5, etc. is common sense.
As for lvl 14, its hard to get the run of that level to look good :P. Some things can go wrong in that level, so you should be prepared to improvise. But yea, i see your point.
