Just a tip: This site doesn't accept .wmv encoded videos. Check the Tech Support subforum for the 'Anri-chan' threads, they'll help with encoding in .avi and .mp4.
I don't plan to make this 'official' until I've completed the damn game. x] Encoding these in .avi bumps their size up 4fold, at least, and that'd take a while to upload anywhere. I might as well burn 'em to DVD and FedEx them to you.
Those level runs look good. Nice SDA touch in the first level I would prefer no WMV though but it's not really of ultimate importance right now.
Great to see the game again, reminds me of the exploration\researching part in this game that I always liked a lot. I always liked that more than the actual fighting
Get 10 creatures, and dig into the hero fort from the south. A save was used in case the tunneler attacked me instead of digging the walls.
0:36: An initial set of rooms to get portal attraction flowing. A bit slow in getting the treasure room up, could probably save some time there. Also, my Hatchery was too small, but my lair wasn't. I should've made the lair the middle room. 2:00: It'd be faster to possess an imp and clear these paths, but I can't be everywhere at once. I have the imps dig out paths to the enemy's HQ 2:19: That's how fast a possessed imp can clear. I get the 2 skeletons to contribute to the 10 creature count. 3:40: Game saving takes a second, in case I screw the next part up. 3:50: digging there when you have 10 or more creatures triggers the heros to attack. Some of them will see you. If the tunnelers do, they'll attack, instead of digging out the area, preventing you from quickly finishing the level. The tunnelers don't notice, though, and I proceed as usual. 4:48: Well, no shit. 5:18: D'oh! I pick up chickens to drop on (and heal) my injured warriors, and I accidentally possess one. The hatchery runs out eventually. Note to self: Make bigger hatcheries in future. 7:27: Thoroughly raping the enemy heroes, good game.
Or use subtitles. A file with the same name as the movie file (but different extension of course) in the same folder will be recognized automatically by some players.
E.g. VLC media player accepts .srt files which can be made with any text editor, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SubRip for a description of the file format.
Heh, since you started working on this game, I got intrigued playing the game myself again. I've checked and attempted the first level a little bit just for fun and so far my best time for level 1 (According to the time displayed on the stats screen at the end of the level) is 2:58. It can still be done a bit faster.
Do I really need to tell you not to trust the in-game timer? I'll do eversmile again (probably slower) and see what the end-game timer says.
End-game timer says "217", probably meaning 3:37, in the game's timing system. Are you reading "258" as 2 mins 58, instead of 258 seconds = 4:18? I don't see how you can shave 42 seconds off my time. I get the first creature (a fly) in a 0:38 when I build the treasure room, and from there it's just a waiting game. You'd have to claim the portal, dig the gold, and build the rooms all instantly, in addition to shaving 4 seconds off the tunneler and knight kills.
Re: Subtitles No, the subtitles will scroll off the screen too fast for you to read them come level 9, and are annoying (to some). Speedrunning is about the game, not about the player. Audio commentary? Interleaving it will be annoying. Adding a recording of myself separate from the dungeon (just play both) would work, but you have the text.

Yeah, it showed 258 instead of 2:58, I was actualy surprised myself of a 42 second improvement Please carry on.
You should try downloading the direct 3d patch, makes the game look 10x better.
Also, just thinking about it, do you plan to use the computer assistant for any of the levels? Could make it quicker if you make the imps, he lays out a plan and you posses an imp while he does it and start digging.
Hmm, after watching your Run for the 3rd Level a second times, I asked myself why you'd never used the acceleration Spell you researched. I mean, come on, you had more than 20k gold, and it highly increases the training monsters and digging an claiming Imps. You should consider this in further improvements.
God damn it, I can't get Flowerhat sub 12 mins. Here's the plan: Tag left, tag right, summon imps, slap Tag left gold block, pick up fortifyers, tell them to claim/dig Tag rooms, tag up-left gold block to give imps something to do. summon/claim, build treasure room, spam imps. Build dungeon, drop Dspawn in training, Warlocks/Beetles in library (slap on library drop).
Tag more gold, dig north, dig south (to gems), build treasury near gems, spam imps. Build bridge as soon as it's researched, drop Dspawn to take care of archers. Drop everyone in Training once Speed monster is researched.
Spam imps, slap/speed trainers, break down door, get increase level special (and use it once the heroes are summoned). Speed/slap imps claiming tiles, drop monsters to clear rooms. Bridge across the water pond, speed/slap imps to claim 1 path to the dungeon heart. Drop imps. when the imps clear to combat, drop all your forces, possess an imp, clear to spiders, drop spiders. Pop 2nd increase level now.
Kill heart, transfer l8 spider, game.
Problem is, I can't get this under 12 minutes for some reason. Any further suggestions on how to speed this up? I think my time sink is, once the dspawns drop the archers, and I drop imp claimers, the door takes a while to go down, and then the imps take a while claiming to the monster doors.
don't forget there is another increase level to the right of the first area you bridge across if you go far enough, just drop dspawn to reveal more area then bridge further.
This could help save time, especially having lvl 3 imps (speed)
Have you ever thought about the time compression? (you have to press ctrl and scrull up or something...I don't know if its in the manual, I found out by accident one day) It fastenes time 2x -8x iirc, I don't know if it is legal here, and the time will propably be counted normally. Just a suggestion...
btw, would be nice if you could record the "debirefing statistics" after every mission, would help and such.
Fraps doesn't record it. For now, I'm thinking about how I can get monsters faster, possibly with luck manipulation to get a Warlock and Demon spawn through the portal (which seems to be flooded with beetles). I'm also considering triggering all the enemy monsters early, then selling the bridge to split them up.
i would love to see a run on DK though, i love the humor of this game.
Yeah, the black humor is fantastic, one of the things why I think its the best strategic game of that decade.
btw, has anyone played DK2? Just asking, cause I thought about playing DK1 again, but I completed it several times, and I thought of something new...with a real 3D engine. DK1 doesnt look SO bad, I mean you wouldn't get eye-cancer from it, but I saw a friend play DK2 one time and it looked...I don't know, kinda stupid (I mean, good graphics, but stupid gameplay). I didn't gave the game a second chance that, maybe it's time to do it now.
You need luck if you're going to get DK2 to cooperate (and not to crash after a few minutes).
I had the idea of playing DK2 again, too. But I couldn't get it working on 2 computers, both running Windows XP, one being rather new and one being rather old. Decreasing sound quality helped a bit but sooner or later it still crashed. But I remember that when I first played it it ran stable - maybe due to having Windows 98 back then.
If you can easily get it give it a try. IMHO it's not bad but no way as good (and dark and evil) as DK1.
Keep in mind the layout of your lair/hatchery/training is the trick to get what you want.
Demon spawns are attracted to bigger training rooms 4x4, Bile Demons are attracted to bigger lairs 6x6 and bigger hatcheries and spiders seems to be attracted to small libraries.
That is an easy way of manipulating what you will get. I havent seen your level 3, but in the prior videos, you make some strange layouts. Also having square or rectangular rooms (perfect like 4x6, 6x6, 6,8 and so on) makes the bigger creatures become attracted to your Dungeon.
I can't remember where I have this information from as it has been at least 7 years since i played the game the last time, but perhaps you should try it out
Also, Demon Spawns turn into dragons at level 11 (you can only train to level 10, they need to fight their way to level 11) as far as I remember.
