He does a LOT of pretty wild tricks.  I checked them out in original Duke3D (DOS, v1.5), which I have installed here, and they check out.

For example, E1M4, he jumps and ducks and does something and ends up crawling through an impossible space!  Normally you'd have to be hit by a shrinker to get in there, but nope: it's in the main game mechanics, so he's abusing a normal bug Cheesy

And E1M2, he hits a switch to make the building blow up by ducking and "opening" a wall.  Normally you'd have to get the blue key to lower this plate in front of the buttons.  This also happens in the original.

And another one I was worried about was in E3, he'd kill a lizardman instantly with a shotgun blast in the face and kick.  I thought this was wrong, as normally a lizardman takes 2 shotguns to kill.  But no, if he takes the full power of the shotgun plus an up-close kick, then he will die in one shot.

See, in Duke3D it is extremely easy to edit how fast you move, how much ammo you have, how much damage something does, how much health an enemy has and so on by editting one of the .CON files.  Of course, nobody would notice if he increased the damage of the RPG from 20 to 21, even though to him it might help out a lot, killing that one extra enemy in the splash damage radius instead of leaving it on the brink of life.

Plus, you have to note that the port he uses was made by the guy who made the BUILD engine.

I though he recorded it with JFDuke? And that port is from Jonathon Fowler.
The original Build Engine was made by Ken Silverman.
Oh yeah you're right, sorry.  I thought Ken did the port.  I think I saw him in the forums for JonoF's port though

Without a doubt my favorite part of the three runs.

yeah, I think he contributed the Polymost renderer to JFDuke.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
You could say that jfduke is the "official" and approved-by-ken port.
And as far as I know jfduke doesn't use CON files, it only needs the GRP file to play,
so the data in the cons must be built in the executable.

I don't see why they wouldn't, since it is impossible to play it on XP otherwise...

The original runs for me in XP, and otherwise it would probably run in DOSbox, so no, using the port is not the only way to play DN3D in XP...
It uses cons, you specify when running the game duke3d.exe /xconfile.con

But yeah, there are con files inside the .GRP so when you just do duke3d.exe it uses the con files inside the .GRP... and it's quite easy to change the .GRP file, provided you have the proper program!

Hey, just to give this topic a kick in the ass, I found an interesting improvement in "Abyss" that saves close to around 2-3 seconds when I watched the EP1 run.

It's hard to explain where in Duke Nukem lingo after not playing the game for years, so I'll just try and describe the general area. After Duke says, "holy shit" then does the big drop down to the water (very cool by the way), then runs all the way up those next few areas, then you come to that little area where you jump then duck through that little space, then you press the bloody hand and look out the window is where my little trick is.

I had thought it was possible to jump and squeeze through that window, but I'm not sure. I do however know that if you fall off that area and duck, you can get right back through that little space instead of falling on the ground, then jumping and ducking.

Just throwing my little two cents in Smiley
I have begun compiling a list of known Duke Nukem 3D glitches. If any one wishes to participate in the glitch hunt, they are more then welcome to it. My work thus far can be seen at http://red-stars.net/content/Duke_Nukem_3D_Glitches

Please note that the page is immature at the moment, and does feature a lot of spelling errors.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

It's good to see a 3 week job wasn't worthless.
I think we've all been looking for a good Duke3D speedrun for a looooong time.

I don't know about you guys, but Duke3D is my favourite shooter.  More than Doom, Quake, System Shock, Blood and so on.

Duke Nukem 3D speedrunner
Hi everyone.

I and JLennox have been working hard on Duke Nukem speedruns for a lot of time, and we are about to be done Smiley

Perhaps you've seen some of our runs on youtube or 3D Realms forums, but this time is different. We worked our ass off on it and improved the runs to their almost optimal time, using every trick and glitch we found.

The run isn't single segment, since the game stops recording when you end a level. Every level was played from scratch on original DOS version 1.5

As I said before, the AVIs are about to go out. Meanwhile you can watch this trailer JLennox just made Smiley

http://www.red-stars.net/games/duke3d/donequicker_trailer.avi

Also, if you prefer, here are the original DMOs and the times for each level:

http://www.red-stars.net/content/Duke_Nukem_3D/Speedruns

I've got to mention that we got inspired on Pushpabon, Poda and LLCoolDave's runs.

Enjoy, and be looking forward for it Wink
Awesome. I'd love to see it once you're done. Will you be submitting it to the SDA? Since you used the original Dos exe, there should be no problem in getting it accepted, and this game certainly deserves to be incorporated in the archives.

Yeah, we are planning to Wink The AVIs will be done in hopefully 1-2 weeks. After that, they must be approved and then, voila! Smiley
