General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
I was looking through the forum and didn't see any specific DD2 topics.  Just DD1 and 3.  Anybody interested in a run of DD2: The Revenge?  I love this game and still play it regularly.
Thread title:
I was also thinking about running this game, but then I found out about the knee kick trick (or w/e you wanna call it) and my interest dropped a bit.
But I'm stubborn so I tried some more and looked at how some things could be done the fastest (isn't that hard to figure out in this game :D).
Main key is to master the knee trick (pressing a+b when standing up).
But I'm trying to run Kirby's Adventure now and also got other games in queue so I'm not touching this game for a while I think :).

In short: I would find it interesting.

And as you already might know you have to play it at the hardest difficulty because that's the only way you'll get the complete game.

If you're lookin for ideas on how to do this game really fast check that out, really good tricks and strats.

Obviously 2 players can be faster so long as your partner can coordinate with you well (or if you want to be really badass an play 2 players by yourself heh).

The only real lvl trick that I know of is in lvl 6. At the end you have to jump on a bunch of disappearing platforms to get to the exit door. Well since I always played it with my brothers, we never knew that the screen would scroll farther to the left, so once that 3rd platform would disappear, we just thought we had to jump from there to the door. We figured out that if you time it just right, you can do a spinning cyclone at the right height and land right on the platform for the exit door. It's hard to describe, but to know you've gotten the right height, you'll see your lower foot (the one not extended for the cyclone) will be spinning above the door platform. If I can I'll try to recreate it an post a vid.

I think the verifiers for this game have some pretty high standards.  The runner would probably have to get sub-14:00 to come close to an SDA-worthy run.
Yes, a worthless avatar riding my posts.
I'm very familiar with the game but not good enough to run it. I believe a run was submitted but the verifiers rejected it, said it was too sloppy. If you're going to do one, make sure you get really lucky or really consistent with the Falcon Knee.

Would you need sub 14:00 for 1 player runs? I do not think this would be possible as the only 1 player TAS I have seen is 11:21 and is not even done on supreme master (no level 9, easier enemies, etc.)
The run that was rejected used most of the strats from the TAS I believe but the runner was just a bad player.  He would miss jumps and get his ass kicked by the AI.

The only level I see as a bit of a problem to run would be lvl 4 once you go underground. The spiked ceiling makes fighting the big guys really hard since you can't just go punch for punch with em, and to do any of the special moves you need to smack your head on the ceiling.

Btw, what's SDA's stance on playing older games on the Wii's Virtual Console? I know they've accepted Rondo of Blood so far along with Mega Man 9, but what about games that were actually released in the US? Do you need to use the actual NES or can the VC be substituted?

Not at all.  It's actually easier to kill guys quickly in this level b/c you can do a super punch or flying knee (most powerful moves in the game) from the crouch position.  Because the ceiling is so low allowing the player to do these moves at a much quicker rate.  So you can actually achieve quicker kills than would normally be the case

Virtual Console is allowed.  Any form of OFFICIAL emulation (which is what VC, PS1 games downloaded from the Playstation store to the PSP, Xbox Originals on the 360, etc.) is allowed.

I have a reasonably efficient strat for stage 4 but it is visually unappealing. It is certainly a pain in the @$$ level once you go underground.

They should have high standards, it's a beefy game.  Tongue  I can confirm sub 14:00 is possible.

Yes, my true identity is the third Lee brother.  But Triple Dragon doesn't sound as good, so I got cut for being the youngest.    Tongue

You know, you were right about the whole sub 14:00, and tbh I am starting to think sub 13:00 is possible.

Possibly, a lot of luck is in whether or not the AI ducks.  I feel I created an optimal route in enemy killing, but I had several runs restart due to enemies that would literally duck 3-4 knees in a row going back and forth and I would just reset.

Right now level 4 is giving me the most trouble, and those crafty Level 8 ninjas...I just need more practice though, my strats are great, execution is meh.

I forgot to mention, congrats on your run being approved Smiley
General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
Thank you very much.  This was the toughest run for me yet.  I've been working this one since I got X-men approved, so that's pretty much 2 and 1/2 months of play to get an acceptable run in.  I'm really proud of it.  I can't wait for it to be posted for all to enjoy.  Grin

And about level four, underground, right?  That was actually the one area that never gave me a problem.  I've had that part down forever, it's button mashing until you get to the opening and good timing.  My friend and I always had good a time here.  I've been thinking about a 2 player run.  When he and I play, it's like the same person is playing both characters.  I'm just superior on the knee attack.

A 2 player run would certainly be awesome. Friendly fire or no when you play 2 player?
General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
Definitely not.  When we tag in, we cover each other, it actually looks pretty cool.  I'll jump in for the knee while he does a cross up a split second later.  If the enemy ducks my knee, he'll throw the uppercut.  Or we'll time a double hurricane kick, with one starting just after the other so it lingers beyond the enemy duck time.  The hard part is deaths.  We just always seem to have a death or two before the last boss (which is really the only acceptable place for a death in this game).  If we really went for it, we could probably do it.

Can we get a ruling?  Would 2 player be a seperate category for this particular game?

Two player is always a separate category if it makes things faster.

Is Carmen going to be the second player?! =DDDD

Wait, my sister is named Carmen...I'm not sure how I feel about this...I wish I had someone named Carmen to team up with :<
