It's not as simple as that, not having to do Nightmare and Hell can change how Normal is played substantially.

For comparison purposes, I watched 9 minutes of your previous any% run.

I don't know much about Diablo II, so I can't offer much advice, but I hope you pull this off, as you're an amazing gamer, and I thoroughly enjoyed your 100% run. Glad to hear that your run is underway, and I hope this goes well!
Wow 9 minutes is nice. Why? Because that's almost 1 Youtube video. *g*

My bad, thanks for pointing that out.
I used to be athiest until I realized I was God.
Well, I'm thinking of redoing the past couple segments.

Basically, I violated my own planning, and wanted to do a segment from Stony Field lvl 6 to Black Marsh WP. I also needed about 4k gold for the frost nova staff.

What I did was I started the next segment at Stony, got a Skill shrine, and was killing on the way to BM. I got some good $ drops, and was able to get the 4k gold. The segment was about 3.5 minutes.

Looking back, this was pretty stupid - I should be exploiting the 'good chest' for cash drops, and running Underground with an EXP shrine (the staff = a skill shrine). Also I'd like more money, because my current segment starts with 140 gold, no mana potions, and no stamina potions.

So, that still lets me keep all the great poison shrine leveling, but I'm kicked back a little bit past the Money segments and Frost Nova staff manipulation. Oh well.
well with 140 gold and no mana potions the next segment would be far too slow anyway. 1 minute and then... out of mana
I used to be athiest until I realized I was God.
I've recorded the first of three 'money' segments which are pretty mind-numbing. I didn't plan on keeping one, but it's an 8 second segment that gets me 2 chipped gems - bringing my total up to 3. Two from andariel, and one more along the way, and that's two staffmod rolls to get a +2 FB socketed staff for Leaf.

I have to admit, I feel weird pumping all this time into gear for an any% run, but the time doesn't really add up that much. Figure 45 seconds per countess run, 2 runs, two 15 second town segments, two more 10 second cash segments, and we're just over 2 minutes. The gear I get out of those two minutes give me FRW, FCR, +4-5 fireball, +2 frost nova, and 6 points in Warmth. It all seems like a good deal.

Anywho, the segments look something like this:

1) run to Stony (~1.1 minutes)
2-6) poison shrine to level 6 (~30 seconds each)
7) spend skils/stat points + create hotkeys, id + equip FCR ring (6 seconds?)
8) go to CP, get 2 chipped gems (8 seconds)
===
the rest are theoretical
9) go to CP, get 2k worth of gold (10 seconds)
10) go to CP, get 2k worth of gold (10 seconds)
11) sell stuff, buy frost nova staff (20 seconds)
12) run to Black Marsh while leveling (90 seconds)
13) run to Outer Cloister while leveling (40 seconds)
14) run to Jail1 while leveling (60 seconds)
15) run to IC while leveling (?? seconds, haven't seen that map)
16) kill Bone Ash for FRW boots (15 seconds)
17) run to cata 2 while leveling (?? seconds)
18) run to cata4, kill andy (?? seconds)

That should put act 1 down in... I dunno, 15 minutes? My previous 9-minute claim was including all the loading screens and stuff, so it's kinda hard to judge.

Whatever, it's coming along. 18 segments for Act 1, jeez - my previous any% was like 2.

That just means you're doing the segmenting correctly, right?  If you're gonna segment, do as many as you need for maximum speed overall.

I've been keeping tabs, so it's great to see some of the early hard work is finished.

I don't envy you for the Bone Ash segment, though...  that looks to be a real pain in the ass.  Good luck finding those boots!
Joke of all trades
this run is gonna be like the diablo 1 run, a million minute segments, please make sure this is appended to one file otherwise it would get ridiculous to watch, like you did with your 100%
This run would be best all in one video, but I actually wish the 100% run had been split into multiple videos, to make it easier to navigate. Like 1 video per difficulty or per act or something. For me anyway, it was hard to search through 4 hours of video for 1 specific part.

No progress since my Power Supply exploded, here's hoping it didn't take out the motherboard.

I do plan on putting it all to one video definetly.
aaa!

This is exactly why i am against "so close to perfect" runs. i would rather see some 1:40 run, then 1:20, then 1:10...

anything could happen. from burning hardware to runner's tireness. (not the case here, but still)

i sincerely hope it's only PowerSuply and everything else is good condition.

You could also die from being too stupid.

Two completely unrelated things have nothing to do with each other by definition. I could start a speedrun and get hit by a bus the next day. How does that have anything to do with how much effort I was going to put into my speedrun?

Disregarding force majeure I have all the confidence in Siyko, and his hardware.

I rarely post here so I'll include this as well: Thank you, Siyko for endless hours of high quality entertainment, your 100% run is simply beyond reproach. I wish all the luck on your new run. I'm sure it will be at least as glorious as your 100% run is.

I believe that is called Murphy's law. Also, what exactly does "force majeure" mean Undecided
A higher force (no idea how this is named correctly in english).
I think his point is that close to perfect runs take more time and effort. I'm sure one could pop out two or three lower quality runs in the time it takes to make a "close to perfect" run. Therefore he's more likely to be hit by a bus without submitting a single complete run if he spends a lot more time on it.

Honestly I think runs should be the best they can be right up until the point that the runner will never complete it, never being the key word. I'm happy to patiently await the masterpiece rather than get a few runs that could be better.

Siyko got hit by a bus? Sad

Thanks!
i have difficulties translating thoughts into words Sad
(glad that someone is able to translate words into same thoughts in their minds)

i wrote "i am against...", "i would like" -- it's only my personal preferences. i am not pushing anyone. i'm sharing my thoughts and trying to explain why i think that way. There is no need to be rude if You don't agree.
i like frequent small improvements (small steps).

But now, most important thing here is that Siyko's hardware problem would appear to be a small one, and he could have returned to running.
Ah my goodness.. how good is it to be alive to see a masterpiece =)

Let's see, yes all good opinions..

You're itching for a another good competition... But there arent many competitors that would be that dedicated to play it.

Super Metroid had many active competitions and players and records was shattered left n sideways in their prime online for a while like Quake but inferior.

The Moral of the story is

Diablo isnt Super Metroid Smiley

Cause it isn't RPG and u oughta kick back..
I used to be athiest until I realized I was God.
new PSU is in, PC is working fine, and everyone is happy. I'm $90 poorer and 250 watts richer, whatever that equals out to
Hopefully that equals out to somewhere close to 1 hour of recording time

...but maybe I'm not thinking outside the box enough

When I saw that second experience shrine, my jaw dropped.

And just finished the whole thing, pretty awesome. Can't wait for the rest of the run.
